Penultimate(?) Release Chapters - 33
FollowYourMuse replied to BinarySecond's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This is the scary part, Insane does not mean not intelligent or able to function, especially since he has the ability to control the world around him. I am afraid that we are going to be flipping POV's back and forth with the Day at a time structure. Reading them chapter by chapter is difficult enough, but I am hoping that this has been a get everyone where we need them and the chapters get more focused on specific POV's or POV groups for a while, and then back to the last day sanderlanche format. -
Penultimate(?) Release Chapters - 33
FollowYourMuse replied to BinarySecond's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think he is delusional and he may have convinced himself this is what he is doing, but more likely if he he is siphoning off anything it is their memories or their identity. Nale not feeling anything, good or bad, is very Odium like. -
A rash of Rotspren A quarry of Stonespren A constellation of Starspren

With this last few chapters and Hoid's infodumps, on how "peeking" into SR works. I think the light Dalinar saw was a form of perpendicularity, and the connection he made to Nohadon was normal Bondsmith (pre-bondsmith) stuff, He was already in a vision and connected to the SR by the StormFather, because of his constant thoughts on the book, he unknowingly connected himself to Nohodon in the SR.

Shallan as a spy.... Still feels contrived
FollowYourMuse replied to KaladinWorldsinger's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I like this idea. We can see spy like behavior early on in Shallan's flashbacks, how often she listen in on her father, or others, and "keeps and eye" on what her brothers are up too. In her passing of notes to arrange meetings. Her art also makes her good at observation. -
Interesting Hesina Comment noticed from Chapt 2
FollowYourMuse replied to FollowYourMuse's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I had not thought that on Roshar that Cosmere was a term in common use, but yes looks like I was mistaken. -
While re-reading this comment from Hesina stood out to me When did Hesina become cosmere aware to use it in everyday language like this?

I am not ignorant, and old enough to have been reading books and aware of different gender identities a lot longer than 50 years which is only 1974. Just because TV media avoided mention, does not mean that it did not exist, or that people were not aware. Even beyond any personal knowledge or culture, you can not read The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde (1890 ), Orlando by Virginia Woolf (1928), Nightwood by Djuna Barnes (1936) or Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula Le Guin (1969) and not understand concepts of nonconforming gender or gender fluidity. ( There are many more too,sci fi has had many books that explored gender ) Though the term non-binary was first used in the 40's, and became accepted language in the last decade, but that does not mean other words or terms and the knowledge did not exist. I was not stating that anyone reading it would have known the newer accepted use term and understanding of "non-binary". But the text in question in regards to Rushu does not mention non-binary, common use terms and public acceptance may have changed but understanding what is being referred to in context has not changed. 50 years from now we may have changed the words we use again, and it would still be clear from the Series context that Rushu is not perceived by Navani's to fit her idea of gender norms. I hadn't until you mentioned it but it makes sense. I have always thought that Geranid would become a Dustbringer.

I can not guess about 50 years from now, but can say that 50 years ago this would have the same signaling as it does today. In fact we were accustomed to more subtlety and context, so this is would have as obvious back then as it is today.

Wind and Truth Chapters 21 and 22 now available!
FollowYourMuse replied to BinarySecond's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I am more inclined to think that Cultivation's plans would be for her to pick up the other Shards, not give up hers, but only if She could pick up both. -
My thought was that this is referring to the flashback scene where he found a rock in the ground, and the actions his family took.

I agree, while Colot could be a GB or other secret or plant, this could just have been to show not everyone who tries is becoming a radiant, and to give Adolin a chance to show Edge Dancer traits. Which we see with him and Shallan, With Colot, with Prime Yanagawn in the Lift, and then again Listening to him and Fen on his Dad, even when he did not agree or thought they would/should say something different.
-
This bothered me, yes Kaladin might be a good choice, but the fact that he is stuck on an inherited position is wrong, The logical choice would be Navani as another Bondsmith, so some random Stoneward just because they reached the fourth Ideal is just ridiculous.
-
I think because of Gavilar's misconceptions and knowledge that there might be more visions of the Heralds and oathpact origins. Plus more visions of the original desolations, and battles. I think the Dalanar saw more of the fake desolation, but never who the enemy was? Gavilar knew Parshendi were voidbringers, and that they had "gods" that he mistook maybe the Fused for? So he had to have seen more of that than Dalanar was shown.

I agree, though because this is so obvious, I start to wonder how Sanderson will flip it to be unexpected, - because it's Sanderson! My guess is it is a trap, and GB will force Shallan to do something for them, or try to break/bribe her with her past.
-
Agree, I think we will get small backfill updates, like we did in released chapters for characters like Shob, Gaz, Red, and Kaladin's father Lirin. I expect bigger changes for Szeth, and maybe Adolin from what we have gotten in the chapters so far. But I agree the timeline is not good for much growth, unless there is a lot more book after the champion battle.
-
I am just glad we are getting more of Shallan's squires, and their progress!
-
This is so a trap for Shallan set up by the Ghostbloods, They already outmaneuvered her in Lasting Integrity, and they just so happen to have a "rookie" that Wit was able to notice, and that led them all the way to Narak?
-
I need to go back and read some of her POV, but started wondering if the Author is Venli, the only thing that makes me think not is she is not a philosopher, but was a scientist. She is a major character, could be around later and would not have been aware of Szeth and Kaladins mission, and the "knowing the wind" as a child fits.
-
Hoping with the hints on their arc from the book blurb that we finally learn more and see some character growth for RLain and Renarin.
-
This is a good point, if it is a Fused that TOdium sends as champion then by the terms they would need to shut down the Sibling, Dalinar will not hurt the Sibling/Navani. It would also expose the Tower to attack.

This made me think of the Rhythms. specifically from Coopermind: Rhythm of Odium – violent, chaotic rhythm that becomes more logical over time ~ Rhythm of War chapter 76
-
I agree, and I fear that the opposite is true, it is tied too closely to the entire Cosmere story, and Sanderson's plans most likely for Mistborn Era 3

While they eat stolen food, they can make fun of clothing together.
