  1. I seem to recall Brandon saying that Hoid's AoL cameo is simply a cameo and that he is not doing anything there but visiting his friends at their wedding. Suggests to me that the adventurer at the pits has anything to do with Hoid. I think he (the adventurer) will have more to do with discovering the reemergence of Atium.
  2. That is an interesting thought, but we still have the curiosity of 2D entities interacting directly with 3D space. Don't forget that chalklings are used to wind the springs for the springrails. Thus, it does not seem unreasonable to me that a force that operates in 3D could effect them directly. On top of which, it is clear that chalklings cannot go through walls, so why could they pass through a LoF field without first damaging the field by damaging the LoF?
  3. Awesome work, Quitecontrary. But, you have me in located in the Spokane, WA area. I am on the other side of the state on Camano Island (north of Seattle).
  4. You know, I appreciate the props, snote and shawn, but I looked at the epigraph again and it says, "Three of sixteen ruled, but now the Broken One reigns." This use of sixteen resonates strongly with Shards. It seems a stretch for spren. If spren, who were the 16? Why did only three of them rule? Were/are the spren led by 16 different spren with three who ruled over all together? Maybe. But, it seems more likely to me to refer to Honor, Cultivation, and Odium.
  5. Hah, my speculation was right on the money on both counts. Nice! There's my warm fuzzies for the day.
  6. In view of WoR, an alternate understanding is that this rattle could refer to the bonding spren for the Bondsmiths. Could it be that there were once three or more of this type of spren? The Stormfather is clearly in some reigning rule over at least a significant group of spren. He also is clearly broken. It seems quite possible to me that this rattle refers to the Stormfather rather than Odium as we had previously assumed.
  7. I am pretty sure that the molten metalmind would retain the charge in the same way a molten hemallurgic spike retains some charge. . As to the mixing molten metalminds, I'm less sure that this would be effective. Since specific traits are stored rather than generic power, I suspect that the formed metalmind would not function since it is neither tin nor copper anymore (since traits stored in copper could not be stored in bronze, etc.).
  8. I noticed (as a couple of others have) that the Bondsmith spren in the epigraph was referred to in the singular rather than the plural. Also, the potentially variable number of Bondsmiths, though commonly 3, seems to indicated that the Stormfather/Nightwatcher/Cusicesh theory has some substantial holes in it. For those of you who have set forth that the unmade may be potential Bondsmith spren, I can't see how that would work. The KR were the opposition to Odium's forces. Why would Odium'd unmade bond to to make a KR Bondsmith? And, why would the KR trust anyone bonded to an unmade? I am currently in the apparently very small 'the Stormfather is the only Bondsmith spren and can bond multiple KR' camp.

  10. I know I am late to the party, but i haven't come out to play in quite a while. When I read the Epigraph to ch. 18 (the second time through), my mind also immediately jumped to Venli. Throughout all of Eshonai's interludes (when Venli was present) she exhibited the traits described in the epigraph. It would also help to explain why she and her fellow scholar's were so seemingly unchanged (personality-wise as observed by Eshonai in I-13) by Stormform. Both forms share ambition and would likely be short on compassion. I fully endorse Venli having been in Scholarform and that at least some of her fellow scholars had tried out Stormform. Although now that I write it, I recall the Stormfather's words to Eshonai when she went to change form. That suggests to me that Eshonai was in fact the first to change to Stormform. Nevertheless, i am firmly in the Venli was in Scholarform boat and I hereby espouse this theory.
  11. Hmm. If the flames are a representation of consciousnesses or minds, then they would be cognitive aspects, would they not? A spiritual aspect would be representative of the soul rather than the mind. @skaa: It is nice to know my absence was noticed. I've been fairly busy so I haven't invested much time since WOR. Now I have a daunting backlog of material to read through.
  12. What I wonder is why if the flames are the cognitive representations of a consciousness, then why/how did Jasnah eject Shallan from Shadesmar by pushing her into one of the flames.
  13. I think it was at Seattle last September when someone posited that a particular person shown at the Palanaeum was Paliah. Brandon seemed to indicate, if I recall, that that person was not her but went on to indicate that each of the Heralds was either shown or mentioned in WoK (feel free to check the text of the Q&A for a clearer picture on what Brandon said). Since she was never mentioned, Paliah must have appeared on screen at some point in WoK. But I don't know who. There is a thread a while back that tried to identify appearances of Heralds in WoK.
  14. My money is on Hoid if for no other reason than he is likely older than Vasher.
  15. I don't know. I get the association. But, it seems to me that the human shape he gave it was for the purpose of it looking like a person to fool the voidbringers. All it did (according to the excerpt) was float on the water. There does not seem to be any kind of extraordinary occurrence. It would be one thing if there was a similar story in Warbreaker. But, I think you might be reading a bit too much into it.
  16. I think it is more likely a soulcast display for a valuable beastie. Kind of like animals like crabs and such being mounted in a block of plastic which has been poured in around the item to be displayed. This way it can be readily viewed and handled without significant risk.
  17. You're right. I was mistakenly drawing a line from each of the apexes to the midpoint of their associated opposite side rather than to their altitude point (making a right angle with their opposite side). As far as points combining go, I suppose you could say that it is still a nine point circle with a right triangle, but it seems more proper to describe it as a five point circle. Especially so in terms of rithmatics. Else, five and eight point circles would be viable lines of warding since they are the effective depiction of nine-point circles for right and isosceles triangles respectively. That would also suggest that four and six-point circles are actually nine-point circles for right-icosceles and equilateral triangles respectively. A two-point circle would then be the effective depiction of a nine-point circle for a triangle having an apex of zero degrees. Again however, if everything was really just nine-point circles in (many in disguise), then a five-point and 8-point circle should be rithmatically viable.
  18. Welcome, Exthalion. I agree that Taravangian is incorrectly interpreting his boon v. curse. I am not sure if it is simply his compassion that is the answer since when he is uber-compassionate he is also not effective at much of anything. But I definitely think that the diagram is not the proper course against Odium and is likely strongly influenced by Odium.
  19. Hi Tracey. Welcome to 17S. I look forward to hearing your ideas.
  20. Yeah, I think she was pre-Recreance in that her previously bonded surgebinder died. It seems unlikely that the entire body of KR that ever existed was alive at the time of the Recreance. I would also imagine that not every KR who fought in the desolations survived. Beyond that, I would think that some (perhaps many) aged and died. Some aged KR, perhaps seeing the need, may have released the bond so that their spren could bond to someone younger and more able in order to make a new KR. I imagine that such occurrences would not result in the death of the bonded spren.
  21. Do we have a report on the questions he answered from this event?
  22. The impression I got from hearing the exchange between Brandon and Hoser was that He could've survived, but he wouldn't have lasted long.
  23. In WoR we see Eshonai's mother suffering from something Alzheimer's-like. To me, this argues against listeners being functionally immortal.
  24. Well, since KR bondspren are from Honor, Cultivation, and a variety of mixtures of Honor and Cultivation, surgebinding will be from Cultivation as well as Honor.
  25. Welcome, Rin. It is a travesty that no one has welcomed you until now. Although, since you have 68 posts to your name presently, I suppose you haven't forsaken us for our neglect. I'm going through and getting caught up on threads I've missed and I have now come across yours. I have about thirty pages of threads to go through before I get there. In any case, Welcome to 17S.
