  1. Welcome to 17S, mostlyjoe. Glad to have you here with us. I do have a question though. If you are mostlyjoe, could it be that you are partlypete?
  2. Okay, that is challenging to work through. The Ars Arcanum spans multiple worlds. In which world? Does that mean that the writer has appeared on screen in all the series which have portions of the Ars Arcanum attached to them? My guess, since Nazh has been ruled out as per Asha'Man's post, is that it is Khriss (i.e., the most cosmere knowledgable person as per Brandon). Question is, who is she? My guess is Iyatil (the masked woman) in WoR. It is also my guess that Mraize's collection actually belongs to Iyatil. Especially since she is his "Babsk". I also think that she is the "woman" Nazh is writing to on the Shattered Plains map (as well as all other notations from Nazh).
  3. Here is something interesting on the two page B&W map from WoK. You'll notice that at approximately 0, 23, 35, 47, and 68 degrees latitude that there is a double mark at the sides of the map. If you put lines at these marks you see that these lines appear to approximate the equator, the tropics, and the arctic and antarctic circles here on Earth. Yet, we know that the numerical degrees listed certainly imply that most of continental Roshar is in the southern hemisphere. As further evidence of this, we see that the Reashi see and isles (as shown in the Rysn interlude) are substantially tropical while the Frostlands are...well, called the Frostlands. So...what could these particular lines of latitude represent?
  4. I agree that she is likely alive. Though, to be honest I wish she was dead. Don't get me wrong. I like Eshonai (pre-stormform at least). But, Kaladin's arm came back, Syl came back, Jasnah came back, and Szeth came back. That is a lot of coming back from the dead. This book finished without much n the way of actual cost. The only person of particular note that actually dies and apparently stays dead is Sadeas (which was good, Sadeas was played out in my mind). Other than him, it was a lot of characters which could barely be described as side characters at best.
  5. Still sounds to me like they called themselves "Releasers". And I think that they should get to choose what the name of their order is.
  6. That same symbol is on at least almost all of the maps in WoK and WoR (probably not on Nazh's Shattered Plains map). It is the focus for all of the lay lines in the southern Frostplanes map which shows Shallan's landfall location.
  7. Yup, and a lot of people in Mistborn used the term "Thug". Your response does not address the epigraph, though.
  8. If I am not very much mistaken, the epigraph for chapter 36 indicates that "Dustbringers" was a slang or pejorative term for the "Releasers". I think this should be changed on the chart.
  9. Welcome, Voscaia. I'm jealous about your travels. I have not been able to stray very far yet. Glad to have you with us here on 17S.
  10. Shadesmar is a term that is local to Roshar. The map that we see at the end of WoK correlates only to Roshar. The expanses in the corners (there are four even though only three are titled) represent other portions of the cognitive realm which correspond to other places in the cosmere.
  11. Almost certainly. Otherwise Szeth is toast.
  12. Hi Worldsinger. Glad to have you with us and actively participating in the discussions. Hope to hear your ideas soon. Welcome to 17S.
  13. There are two types of Aimians as Argent mentioned- Siah and Dysian. Both are rare since the scouring of Aimia but the Dysian Amians are rarer. Axies is a Siah Aimian. Also, Argent, get strung up upside down for even just an hour and tell me it's not torture. If you get hung that way for too long it will kill you most unpleasantly. Now, insofar as you mean they are not trying to get something from him like information, I agree. Seems like it is just a punishment.
  14. Glad to have you with us, Coboney. Welcome to 17S.
  15. See post #6. I would be surprised if his own personally acquired data would be sufficient to make such large scale projections involving topics which virtually all information regarding said topics is obscured or lost. Again, see post #6. I don't think this would constitute twisting words. The curse is hers to choose. That is what Baxil and his colleague wee discussing. The curse not the boon. The Nightwatcher may have provided Taravangian exactly what he asked for and he may simply be failing to recognize what that was because he assumes his curse is actually his boon.
  16. The information that formed the basis for the diagram had to come from somewhere other than Taravangian. A high IQ does not grant information. Merely the processing capability. So, to some extent, the diagram is of "alien" origin. I still say that the theme of the books so far being essentially the first ideal is fairly strong evidence that Taravangian is playing for the wrong team. Wittingly or not. I wonder how Taravangian expects this to play out htough. Karbranth is small enough and its problems small enough in scale that it would likely be no big deal for the king to take the "day off" or hold off on important decisions. But how is that supposed to work during a desolation when decisions need to be made immediately? "Sorry, the king of the world is broken today. Please call again tomorrow." Edit: as to the Nightwatcher not granting what Taravangian asked for, the Stormfather is likely somewhat analogous to the Nightwatcher and he doesn't seem to be particularly interested in helping Humanity make it. Why should we expect that the Nightwatcher has humanity's best interests at heart?
  17. I had sent an email asking for White Sand but never heard back on it. Are y'all not sending it out anymore?
  18. I got shardblades being splinters of Honor and Cultivation right (though my idea of this was more vague in that it did not directly involve spren as being the splinter). I also had Danlan pegged as a spy. I figured the Stormfather to be some greater vestige of Honor (greater than a typical spren, I mean). Edit: Ooh! I also called shardspears.
  19. Well, Khriss is likely the woman that Wit referred to as being close to his own age. I also think it is likely that she is the one being fed info by Nazh. Not that Nazh refers to a woman as making the request in the Shattered Plains map. This is not the first we have heard of Nazh. He provided the map of Elendel with the notations that we saw in AoL and a variety of materials in WoR. We even likely see him on screen in WoR posing as an ardent trying to takes notes and sketches of Bridge 4.
  20. 3. Szeth is probably about as mentally broken as anyone we've met on Roshar so far. I fully expect Taravangian to die at Szeth's hand. I actually expected him to go after Taravangian rather than his last attempt to get Dalinar. Taravangian knew that Szeth was right and that he wasn't truthless, yet he commanded Szeth to sow chaos accross all of Roshar. That's a lot of blood and death that Szeth could lay at Taravangian's door. 4. The Everstorm is. And after it makes its first lap around Roshar, there will be a spanking lot of voidbringer Parshendi (hundreds of thousands by Dalinar's reckoning of the number of Parshmen). Seems pretty likely that this is the beginning of the desolation. 6. Seven armies fought over Vedenar. There would have been massive casualties. I wouldn't be surprised if it approached 50%. How many armies could survive 50% casualties without having drastically reduced fighting capability? I wonder about what Taravangian asked for? The boon he reported asking was general. It didn't say that he asked that he personally be given the capability. I wonder if the fluctuating intelligence was the curse and the boon was the return of bonding spren to establish new KR or something like that. Humanity was given the capability not Taravangian specifically. His curse left him cracked open to influence by Odium and was then given the info dump to sow chaos and debilitate Roshar's ability to fight. Pure logic cannot be used to accurately predict human behavior. Certainly not the behavior of an individual. Humans act according to passions like fear, love, and hate. Different people will commonly react vastly different to identical stimuli. I think Taravngian is being led down the garden path.
  21. Hi, Radiant. Welcome to the promised land. Here you can find fullfilment for all your cosmeric quandaries. Even more so for perplexing problems which are limited to a single series. I hope this site exceeds your present expectations and I look forward to hearing from you.
  22. I have to agree with Seloun here, Moogle. If Helaran was a KR with a live radiantblade, then the blade at least would have been glowing if not the armor as well. (The armor presumably could have been regular plate rather than active radiant plate).
  23. Hi, Aengus! Welcome to 17S. Hope you enjoyed WoR as much as I did. I will be trying to catch up on my lost sleep over the next several days. Glad to have you with us.
  24. You are right. I had the ardent mixed up with the person with whom he was having that conversation you cited. Don't recall his name off hand.
  25. Didn't Taravangian indicate that he and the ardent had grown up together? If so, then the ardent could not be a Herald. Taravangian would have noticed that the ardent did not age substantially over a period of 50 years or so.
