  1. Welcome, Drosis. Glad to have you with us. You are right, there is a lot of info that we work from that is direct from Brandon (WoB; Word of Brandon). The best sources to find this information is by combing through the signing reports in the Events, Signings, and Stalking forum as well as the interview database here and here (note: these databases are not complete so do not rely on them exclusively). There is also periodic tidbits which come through Reddit (Brandon's handle is 'mistborn' there) and Twitter (@BrandSanderson).
  2. I'm in the same boat. Not shipped yet, but ETA 3/4 by 8.
  3. These are good points and I did consider whether or not the same sun rises and sets on all of Shadesmar. Unfortunately, we have not much in the way of info on the 'geography' of Shadesmar (particularly inter-regional 'geography'). I personally am dubious as to whether it is actually a sun per se. While it must necessarily provide some illumination, I doubt it provides much more than our moon. Shallan describes the sky as black and I suspect that much of the local light is provided by the 'flames' (if you even need a proper light-source in a cognitively-based location). For my part, I am inclined to believe it's exclusive to Roshar-Shadesmar. There is the niggling detail though where Shallan also describes the sun as 'too far' or 'too distant'.
  4. I share my sympathy by an upvote.
  5. Actually I ordered it well over a month ago.
  6. Oh Baby!! Working the system. Turns out Prime memberships can legitimately be shared among family members. I happen to have a mother-in-law with a Prime account and she graciously allowed me to share her membership. I changed my order's shipping speed with about an hour to spare. We're back in business for Mar. 4!!!
  7. I am a cheap loser and did not pitch for 2-day shipping. Jokes on me!
  8. I have one last theory before WoR is released. So we all know that there is a fancy pants weird sun in the sky in Shadesmar. What is the purpose of this sun in Shadesmar? Is it there just to give light? Or is there a higher function? Well, I finished up my pre-WoR WoK reread today (not that is really matters since Amazon is the Devil) and I came across this tidbit spoken by Honor in Ch. 75, "In the Top Room": So, obviously there is the mundane figurative imagery of the sun setting on a time of relative peace. But, perhaps there is more to this. Perhaps the sun in Shadesmar rises after a desolation and begins to set as a desolation begins to approach. The setting of the sun signalling the start of the desolation. As some evidence of this, I note that in Ch. 45 "Shadesmar", Shallan notes that the small white sun in Shadesmar "hung on the horizon". So the perhaps figurative sun spoken of by Honor is in a similar position to the Shadesmar sun seen by Shallan. Obviously not conclusive by any margin. But, an interesting thought nonetheless. What say ye?
  9. I have decided now that I hate amazon pre-order! See attachment below. the release is Tues. and I may very well have to wait until up to a week later before it arrives. I remember back in the day they shipped pre-ordered books out such that they arrived on or just after the release date. Apparently those days are gone! RAGE!!!!!!
  10. Welcome, Silver. Glad to have you with us. As to English being your second language, you seem to have an excellent grasp of the grammar and If you had not said anything about it, I would have assumed English was your native tongue.
  11. We're pleased to count you among us, Kikuo. Welcome. We also are quivering with anticipation for Tues.
  12. Let me extend a rather delayed welcome to you. Excellent background on your name. And I agree that Theron is a cool name. In any case, glad to have you with us.
  13. A big part of why he holds to the codes so firmly is prevent himself from lapsing into the man he was at the time of Gavilar's death. So, exclusive of how broad his dealings are, he will likely hold fairly firmly to the codes. The dueling aspect of the codes is different. That part seems clearly intended to prevent silly duels and arguments from removing officers from combat ability. The duels that Dalinar has Adolin engaging in are intended to strengthen the Alethi overall.
  14. I have often wondered at how Kelsier arrived at the ~300 years time-frame for this. How would he have known? Then one must factor in that Sazed's ascension kind of changed the game. Now that Sazed embodies both Ruin and Preservation, it is his decision on how and when to release atium into the world again.
  15. We can only assume this if we likewise assume that Surgebinding can be used to produce heat, directly inflict pain (rather than simply causing pain by injury), and dull pain (other than healing).
  16. Aww, Kadrok. You're so diligent. We really do need to discuss giving you a raise . As to the OP, I would be surprised if Hoid hasn't been to Roshar a number of times. We know he was around at the time of the Shattering of Adonalsium. So, he has been around for a long time. I wouldn't be surprised if he had met Taln more than once before. Also, we have two organizations with somewhat similar goals with similar names: the Worldbringer on Scadrial (Mistborn) and the Worldsingers on Roshar. Hoid is significantly involved in at least one of these organizations. I personally think that he is the originator (or one of) of these groups. Further, Roshar has been a pretty significant cosmere battleground for many thousands of years since we have Shard on Shard conflict. He goes where important stuff is happening. So, it is not hard to imagine that has has popped up on Roshar before. Sigzil could be simply a Worldsinger apprentice to Hoid or he could be a more involved apprentice to Hoid's larger goals. This would mean that Hoid met him on a previous trip to Roshar and taken him with him on his "travels". However, I haven't heard Sigzil reference anything that seems to not jive with Roshar. So not much to suggest (yet) that Sigzil is a Rosharan worldhopper.
  17. I really don't think that the whole Geranid quantum spren effect would work that way. It is not enough to declare something or even to write it down. It only worked with an actual measurement.
  18. I don't recall any mention of Odium being imprisoned in any way. Can you track down that quote?
  19. I think you have a mistake here. A 9-point circle is produced using an inscribed circle within a right triangle so long as the triangle is not isosceles.
  20. Yes, that is true, but Dalinar's Khokh and Linil are styled as a crown and a tower respectively. Elhokar's are styled differently.
  21. I basically just listened and if someone started asking a question, I turned on the recorder. I never hid it from anyone or tried to be surreptitious about it, but I never expressly told anyone other than Brandon and the guy running the signing that I was recording.
  22. Spend a bit of money and make a t-shirt promoting 17S (make an inkjet printable iron-on or something). I bet it would help a lot.
  23. If you can help it, you may wish to learn from my example and just ask Brandon if you can leave the recorder at the table. I admit it felt a bit weird standing there (although it was kind of cool to be able to refresh Brandon's memory a couple of times). Chief advantage of doing it the way I did: Less sifting through fan gushing, picture requests, and general conversation on the recording. Chief advantage of leaving the recorder on the table: freedom to move about and talk to people and less awkwardness (though a nice t-shirt that says "ask me about 17thshard.com" my clear that up nicely. I just looked like some weirdo groupie.).
  24. Cognitive and spiritual. Mental and cognitive are essentially the same thing for our purpose here. The physical, cognitive, and spiritual realms are the basis for the term realmatics (realm-atics) and realmatic theory. I found the term to be confusing when I got started.
  25. Here is a pertinent WoB for the topic: Source So, some portion of the Oathpact is still in force.
