    hey

Apparently Argent just died. Convenient that the forums provide us with a precise time of death because of the new death rattle posts.
  2. Hi, Helena. My wife suggested Mistborn to me because of my metallurgy background. Kind of similar draw. Welcome to 17S.

    hey

Glad to have you with us, Moelach. Welcome to 17S. But now that you're here, if someone dies in the forums, are they going to spout off some cryptic utterance?
  4. The self-proclaimed Thrill-Meister approves of your questions, gpmushu. He RAFO'd me last year on the darkeyes question, so much thanks. I agree with paperclip that these things have been around longer. Taravangian indicated that if Moelach moves than the rattles move with him. I think much the same is the case for the Thrill. I think however, that the unmade associated with the Thriill has been in Alethkar for a long time and Moelach only moved to the East about 7 years previously.
  5. But Rysn fell into the Reshi sea, not a pool.
  6. Hi, Charlie. Welcome to 17S.
  7. It is not unheard of for parents to be completely unaware that their child is being abused. Especially when said parents have strong compelling interests outside of the home. Even without that, it is not uncommon for abuse to occur without the parents' knowledge or even as a result of some form of neglect. Edit: ninja'd by Aminar. Guess I should refresh before starting a post.
  8. Sja-anat should be added as a contender. Spoken of in chapter 4 (the Purelake vision), a likely unmade who can corrupt spren and the result being the seed of Thunderclasts and perhaps other beastly horrors.
  9. I got the impression that Jasnah believes in the Almighty, but doesn't believe that the Almighty was God (i.e., the Almighty as taught by Vorinism). She believes that morality does not need to be sourced from God. Due to her studies and her interactions with Ivory and other spren she may even be aware of the personage s of Honor, Cultivation, and Odium and be aware of Honor's death. Her knowledge of these people and Vorinism's lack of discussion of these beings of power would certainly lead her to retain her skepticism of the Almighty as God (especially as taught by Vorinism) in spite of the coming of surgebinders, voidbringers, and the Everstorm. Dalinar shares that he now believes something similar. He accepts that the Almighty existed and is now dead but does not believe that the Almighty was God. In contrast though, he still believes in God and absolute right and wrong. He believes that the Almighty (as taught by Vorinism) never was God and that God is greater than anything he knows specifically about.
  10. Hey, Feesh! Welcome back. I think things have been fairly quiet on the realmatics front. Obviously, there is a some new info on the cognitive realm. But, I haven't seen much come across that is major realmatics discussion.
  11. Hi, colorseer. Welcome to 17S. Looking forward to hearing your ideas.
  12. Very nice, Maresia!
  13. But, it also cannot be since we know that the southern continent peoples of Scadrial use the metallic arts as well. Just in a different manner than the northern continent peoples. And surgebinding is definitely not an aspect of the metallic arts.
  14. Hoid is who I thought of when I read that part in the book. The quote from Brandon seems to pretty clearly indicate that it was indeed Hoid.
  15. Nope. We have already been told that Roshar has a single continent. Brandon left it open though that there may be some smaller islands and such out there. But, the landmass on the maps is most of the landmass on Roshar.
  16. And you get a fancy-pants Szeth cut-out.
  17. Yeah, the top numbers start going off at 15-21 and none of the bottom numbers are in the right place. The heavy gray lines are latitude and longitude. The two zeros should be connected by the right-vertical grey line, tens by the center grey line, and 20s by the left grey line. The red lines are lines between roses. Edit: .|| = 20; .| = 10; and . = 0
  18. I fully agree with Blackwood. I brought this same thing up in a topic I posted later than this. Szeth was bonded to the blade in such a manner that he could summon and dismiss it. Personally, I think there was a communication breakdown between Brandon and the person who asked. But, I want to know more about this.
  19. Wow! That sucks beyond belief!
  20. True that each rose is not connected to each of the other roses, but there are enough lines that are center to center between two roses that I am confident that each of the lines is center to center connecting roses. It is simply explained in that this is obviously only a portion of a full map and that the lines which extend off the map connect to other known points which would be marked by a rose if the map were large enough to include them.
  21. We have seen Shallan previously drawing a scene which she did not apparently personally witness. In WoK in Karbranth when she was sketching while letting her mind wander she drew a picture of a man lying (facedown?) in a pool of blood. We had previously believed that it was a picture of her father's death but we know now that that was not the case since she strangled and poisoned her father (i.e., no blood).
  22. Urithuru has 10 oathgates each of which likely connecting to the ancient capital cities of each of the silver kingdoms. The 'compass roses' on the frostlands map are oriented such that the laylines are connect each of the roses to the others. They are also not properly compass roses since they do not have a uniform orientation. They do not correspond to the cardinal directions or subdirections. Edit: Each of the Oathgates connect to the other oathgates as well. Note that there are ten positions. Shallan indicates orientation of the gate to the Urithuru position if I recall.
  23. Welcome home MrFloobie. You are among friends.
  24. I think the 16 rays simply correspond to the basic sixteen compass directions (i.e. N, NNE, NE, ENE, E, ESE, SE, SSE, S, SSW, SW, WSW, W, WNW, NW, and NNW). It is more curious to me that they are not equi-angular.
  25. Yeah. I would expect that it is a response to the letter from Hoid that we saw in the WoK epigraphs (which letter was confirmed to be from Hoid to a dragon). This would mean that the letter is most likely from the dragon to Hoid.
