All but Allomancer Jak. <mumbles incoherently> Dang RPGs!
-
First forum in which I've ever been a member...!
Shardlet replied to zeehno's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Now that you got into the pool, might as well dive in completely and pick up every Sanderson book you can lay your hot little hands on . I very much doubt you'll be disappointed. -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

Sir Mix-a-lot 'aint got a lick on you, Chouta and Mad. Upvotes for the both of you. -
Oh, Kurk is intimately familiar with any existing WoB on time bubbles. In fact, I would go so far to say that Kurk would be the resident guru on everything known (in the community) about time bubbles, Cosmere FTL, and Feruchemical gold. Oh yeah, he has a special relationship with Platonic forms as well. p.s. Even though I have never interacted you previously (though I have read many of your posts and a couple of your blog entries), glad to have you back with us Zas.

Oh bless you Weiry! A lovely perusable useful form of the list!

Ugh! Please don't refer me to the Ultimate List of Questions . That is a bloated 81 page thread that seriously needs an enema. If I am not very much mistaken, Vin sees the same inquisitor (Kar? It's been a while) quite some time after he heals and she still identifies the presence of scars. Clearly though, it is indeed possible that the inquisitor used only sufficient Feruchemical gold to preserve function. I doubt the inquisitors go much in for personal beauty . @Kurk - I like the suggestion about the general forum questions, but I'm not sure what would be suitable. Does anyone have any suggestions for questions that could be asked in the general Q&A without being spoiler or perhaps even leaving the heads of the uninitiated unexploded?
-
Great suggestions so far. Any other takers?
-
Thanks for the tips Kurk. Incorporated your suggestions and made some further amendments of my own.

Forgive the double post please. Kurk posted while I was typing. I think both those are ambiguous to the question. I am familiar with both. Certainly lerasium stacking is possible since you could rerwrite your sDNA or perhaps simply portions thereof to gain additional abilities (given the proper intent of course). Neither quote really clearly fully addresses the default setting of lerasium (i.e., makes a mistborn). I designed those questions to clear the water left muddy by these WoBs.

Brass by definition is an alloy of copper and zinc. Likewise, bronze is by definition an alloy of copper and tin. So I think it is very safe to say 'yes' to these questions. My suspicion for bendalloy is that it is precisely what bendalloy is IRL (i.e., 50 wt% bismuth, 26.7 wt% lead, 13.3 wt% tin, and 10 wt% cadmium) same with nicrosil (84.1 wt% Ni, 14.4 wt% Cr, 1.4 wt%, and 0.1 wt% Mg). Duralumin and electrum are different because they are families of alloys or rather describe alloys having a range of compositions

Ok. I recall there being some disagreement back in the day about Lerasium and its default effect. So to clear that up some, I have devised the following line of questioning (please inform me, Moogle, Weiry, or Kurk if this has already been cleared up): If Vin and pre-lerasium Elend hypothetically each ingested and blindly burned equivalently sized beads of Lerasium, would Vin be a stronger mistborn than Elend or would they be equal? If a non-allomantically gifted person consumed and blindly burned a bead of lerasium half the size of the bead Elend burned half of a bead of Lerasium (the same size as the one Elend burned), would they be as strong a mistborn as Elend was? If a non-allomancer simultaneously consumed and blindly burned two beads a bead of Lerasium twice the size of the bead that that were the same size as the bead Elend burned, would they be a stronger mistborn than Elend? Has this been resolved? Input on phrasing?

Haha. That's funny, I hadn't even read your questions when I wrote my response. "Post-WoR" was a happy coincidence. For my part, I was referencing the beginning of my relative absence from the forums. I do have a soft spot for metals questions. And I have a couple of ideas on what would be the answer to a couple of your questions. I thought we had a pretty solid answer on why there are sometimes scars and sometimes not.
-
Oh Kurk, have I not asked enough time bubble questions on your behalf . Therein lies the rub, I don't have many post-WOR areas of speculation. Thanks Twenty, don't worry, you'd have a hard time spoiling things for me. I'm fully up to date on all readily available readings and reading materials.

I think (not theorizing or speculating, actually answering) the difference between life on Scadrial and life on Roshar is that all the lifeforms on Scadrial were created by Ruin and Preservation whereas life on Roshar (including the listeners) existed before the arrival of the Shards (i.e., created by Adonalsium itself).

I'll see you there Wetlander.

So, I will be attending the signing in Seattle this Tues. night. However, I have been out of the loop long enough that I do not have much in the way of personal questions that I would like to ask Brandon. Thus, I entreat all of you to offer suggestions. I will not be doing many questions since I am bringing my 10 year-old with me this time. So, when I make my selections, please do not be offended if I do not use your question. I likely will be selecting questions that align with my interests (helpful to older sharders, less helpful to y'all who joined during my drought) and I think the answers may be interesting or valuable. I generally try to avoid obvious RAFO-bait. So, bring me your queries!

It was my understanding that although "The Almighty" is typically applied to Honor/Tanavast, that aspects of Cultivation and perhaps even Odium are ascribed under the same moniker. It is also my understanding that the term is principally rooted in Vorinism and that non-Vorin peoples and religions do not embrace this term.

The idea of the line being on the ceiling is in order to prevent the chalklings from eating away at the chalk line. Of course, that would only work if the chalklings did not have sufficient access to the ceiling. It does not appear that chalklings can scale a LoF like they could a normal wall since they had many opportunities to do so. As to the line breaking through the ceiling given sufficient line thickness, it is unclear what would happen since we have been given no info on this from Brandon or the text. I wouldn't be surprised to get much more info on LoFs in the Aztlanian (I hope). The fishing line ides is very interesting. I have postulated that the LoF barrier has sloped sides that meet at a vertex. If that is correct, then such a vertex would be expected to be very sharp. I would expect that this would result in the line being cut. But, that is only if my theory is correct. I'm not sure about what you mean about the walls. But, it seems that without sufficient motivation to move the tripwire, they would simply go under, over, or around it without moving it.

Sounds fairly reliable to me.

If I recall, Khriss had notably lighter skin than Baon. So, I'm not sure that Makabaki is necessarily an accurate description of her skin color.

I agree with Curiosity. I think Syl is reliable on this one. I definitely think spren are splinters, but not all splinters are necessarily spren (even on Roshar). Also, as a note, the Ado-spren WoB was from the Seattle signing in Sept. of 2013.

Yeah, tournament rules would be different than actual rithmatic rules. LoF (lines of forbiddance) are the only lines that would restrict movent in 3D. so you could step out of the circle (not in tournament) with no effect other than leaving yourself unprotected. As to your first question, I'm not sure I quite follow you. LoF require no other lines or glyphs to function. The rithmatist need only draw a straight line with the intent to draw a LoF (intent matters). No age or additional knowledge or skill is required.

Nobody has ever tried to recruit me to a guild. Maybe the whole double-eye thing creeps them out and they keep away. So join me and we double-eye...wait! I didn't just almost start my own guild, did I?

Welcome, Witty. That begs a question, with such a user name, does one shorten it by referencing only the adjective or only the noun?

Straight through? In English (assuming fluent English speaking)? In all seriousness though, I checked Dangerous Women out from the library to read Shadows since I wasn't really interested in purchasing the anthology. I have Sixth on my Kindle.
