  1. Conference thoughts so far: Loving all these based talks. They sang the best arrangement of the best Easter anthem! I expected this, but I am thrilled nonetheless. Even the most chaotic, hectic, exhausting shift in the Conference Center is a better work environment than anywhere else. My feet hurt but that was the most fun I’d had all week. (The British guy telling me I was doing a “crackin’ good job” was icing on the cake.)
  2. You can take your fancy State Capitols and Salt Palaces--the Conference Center is the most impressive building in the city, if not the whole state.
  3. Cookie popups on websites are annoying, but the "Sign in with Google" popup inspires within me the fury of a thousand suns.

  4. Nothing, really. They were fine. I had a couple really good inks, one that feathered way too much, and one that went bad in the bottle. There wasn't any big scandal as far as I'm aware, I had just lost enthusiasm. Will do! Apparently. Though one of the guys isn't there normally, so idk if anything'll come of it.
  5. Last week at church, during a small meal after the meeting: one of the leaders was walking around, looking for people to foist leftovers onto, when he stopped and proclaimed me a man of culture and refined taste--he'd seen the pen in my pocket. (A 3776, and yes, those were his exact words.) He then pulled out his, a Kilk. We were about to get into it, but then the guy sitting next to me reached into his pocket and pulled out a TWSBI! We proceeded to nerd out together for the next half hour. I think I'm in the right place, y'all. This is my first ink of theirs I've tried since their soft relaunch a few years back. I think they've won back a customer. I managed to get some Troublemaker samples after wanting to try them for a while. I've only tried Petrichor so far, but it's just as lovely as I'd imagined! Gives me high hopes for the rest, especially Milky Ocean.
  6. We had ward conference recently, and our stake presidency was in attendance. Our stake president is Polynesian, and opened his talk with "Aloha!" Of course, we all said it back. Then he said "Let's try that again. He is risen!" and again, we said it back. I just thought that was really nice.
  7. “You’re sacrificing true value on an altar of pseudo-productivity.”

One of my favorite CGP Grey quotes.

  8. Thanks! It's been pretty nice so far. I hope you enjoy your trip!
  9. Ain't no way it's already been a year and a half. Welcome back!
  10. I think I'm getting a little better at tweaking the photo to better reflect how the ink appears in person.

Said ink this time is Kyo-no-oto Ruriiro, and the pen is a TWSBI Eco, broad nib. Link to the song.

      Aren't they? :D

My best budget recommendation would be a Platinum Preppy or Prefounte. If you don't mind spending a little more, the Pilot Metropolitan is a great choice. (There are also plenty of decent and cheap pens on Amazon, though their wholesale and unapologetic "borrowing" of other companies' designs puts me off.)

Thank you! It’s always so hard to get into new hobbies and things when you don’t have people who already know all the things.

You're welcome! I'll also add that both Platinum and Pilot each use their own proprietary cartridges, so you won't be able to just drop in any old ink without a using a converter. (The Pilot should come with one, the Platinums don't, so here's a link.)

  11. I had previously read the first two volumes of Wotakoi (and loved them), but now I've got time to myself and the box set, so here we go.
  12. My sister and I attended the Utah Symphony tonight! Antonín Dvořák retains his seat as my favorite composer.

More specifically, fantasizing about writing a completely separate project then the one I'm currently on, lol.

  14. Love this arrangement of one my favorite Restoration hymns.

  15. I think I have just had my first "Somebody used up all the hot water" experience. I'm not thrilled.

  16. A new favorite ink, Birmingham Basil Pesto, and an old favorite song.

The pen is a Platinum 3776 Laurel Green with a medium nib.

Thank you! It's very calming color, isn't it?

It's a rabbit hole, for sure, and it can be an expensive one. But it doesn't have to be!

  17. Got a bottle of Birmingham Basil Pesto off someone at the local pen group. I struggle with green inks, so it's nice to find one I resonated with so strongly. (The other two I have and love are Kyo-no-oto Moegiiro and Bungubox Dandyism.)
  18. Leuchtturm is my go-to for notebooks. There are better papers such as Tomoe River, but they tend to be even pricier. Stay away from Moleskine.
  19. @Use the Falchion Thanks for the summary! I'll give it another try.
  20. @Use the Falchion Is Witch Watch any good? I started it a while back but got the feeling it was going to be pure hijinks with no real development. I'd love to be wrong. Also, Sweetness & Lightning is absolutely adorable and I'm still pissed that Crunchyroll dropped it. The concept of licencing is one of humanity's great follies.
  21. No prob. I always feel like I'm bumbling every time I try to offer my thoughts in this thread, so I'm glad I was able to be of some service.
