  1. I am now in possession of a Costco-sized tub of Andes mints. :sylheart:

  2. Finally got around to watching Dandadan (having read some of it before when it was web-only), and I'm happy to say it's as good as I remember--better, even. Its cracked, absurdist sense of humor is exactly up my alley, and it balances it with the dramatic elements quite nicely. Maybe I'll have to pick the manga back up. Also, Spy x Family S3 is so far, so good.
  3. After the (deserved, if unfortunate) utter implosion of NaNoWriMo as an organization, I find myself still wanting to participate in some kind of 30-day writing challenge this November. The question now, I suppose, is whether to sign up for NovNov or just go it alone--after all, the only real "requirement" is to write 1,667 words a day, something for which no app or service is required.

  4. Obsessed with this lately

  5. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and desperation this time compelled me to wander about in the rain in a big black garbage bag with a hole poked through it so I could see.

If you find a hill and cover the garbage bag in soap, you can slide down the hill. It’s very fun.

      That sounds horrifically dangerous.

      I love it.

  6. The Second Story is swiftly becoming my favorite writing channel.

      woah

      that was really cool

      i might agree with you

  7. I expect they’ll ordain the new president & apostle as soon as they decide, and we’ll hold the solemn assembly to sustain them in April. That’s how it went with Pres. Nelson and Elder Kearon, anyways.
  8. First: That's beautiful. Well done. Second: Reminds me of Ether 12:27 and D&C 18:15-16, though I don't know if they're quotable in this context.
  9. PSA: If your response to somebody begins with or contains any variation of "So you're saying..." or "Why don't you just...", I will assume you're either acting in bad faith or have soup for brains and immediately and completely disregard anything you have to say.

Admittedly, tone is hard to read over text, but it's usually pretty clear in context when the above are used in a condescending manner.

Why don’t you just be more patient?

      Spoiler

this is a joke I swear 😭 you’re right tone is hard

Interestingly, at the same moment I read your reply and instantly recognized it as satire, I felt the same spark of annoyance that I would have if it were real.

I felt it as I was writing it…

like i was going to try to justify them, but I genuinely can’t think of any situation where it wouldn’t be wrong.

  10. RIP President Russell M. Nelson. It was clearly evident to me that he was a prophet and servant of God, and that he was prepared to lead when he did. I'll miss him dearly, but look forward to the work continuing until "the great Jehovah shall say the work is done." https://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders/2025/09/28/president-russell-m-nelson-dies-101/
  11. Well, trying is the important thing, isn't it? You'll get there.
  12. In light of Elder Rasband's invitation to give the Lord equal time, I've come up with the following as a simple first step: I work full-time, but it's not so much one 8-hour shift as it is two 4-hour shifts squished together. So, I'll listen to whatever podcasts/YouTube videos I want one shift, and then Conference/scriptures/LDS YouTube for the entirety of the other. Really there couldn't be a more perfect arrangement if my tism'd, routine-requiring rear end tried.
  13. On one hand, I was staying up doing something productive (practicing piano)...

On the other, it's now 4:38 AM.

Responsible choices were made by all involved

I went to a college party last night and then slept through my am classes :D

  14. It seems I Should Not have eaten an entire pack of sour candy. It was tasty, but I also feel like I'm d y i n g

  15. One of my favorite producers and singers performing a song I adore, yet never in a million years would have expected? Yes, please.
  16. I’ve finally turned my attention to  learning something other than a hymn on the piano! (I used to know half of a couple songs before, but I’ve basically entirely forgotten them at this point so it doesn’t count.) Anyways, the song I’m learning is The Loxian Gate by Enya, one of my most favorite songs of all time.

Maybe I’ll upload a recording once I’ve got it down, though in all likelihood that may be a full decade from now.

  17. Pardon the lower quality image; the camera I'm using now is a little less versatile. Pardon the janky handwriting on the left; I'm still early in the notebook and so had to work around the significant hump on the right side.

In any case, Now's the Time has proved increasingly prophetic, and the following track, Over Me, has always been topical. There are many more songs by Collective Soul I could mention at this time--one of the many reasons they're my favorite--but I thought these two summed up my thoughts well enough.

I'll issue a brief language warning at the very end of Now's the Time, after the bridge (not written here).

  18. Happy birthday!

  19. I watched The War of the Rohirrim the other day, and while it was engaging enough, I couldn't shake the feeling the whole time that I was just watching a worse version of The Two Towers and Brave. 5, maybe 6/10.

The thing I liked most: Hera. I mean, come on.

The thing I disliked the most: Pro tip, if you need a narrator to drop in every half hour and explain the plot, then your plot sucks. Or you suck at writing. Or both.

  20. I was browsing the meters index at the back of the hymnbook and it turns out you can put the words of O My Father to the tune of Lord, Dismiss Us with Thy Blessing and it fits perfectly, both in meter and also tonally. (It would be prudent to play it more softly, of course.) We did that once in seminary, switching up the tunes. We sang The Spirit of God to the melody of Now Let Us Rejoice; another perfect match. I wish we'd do that more often--I like how it can reframe the words and make me think about them more, or differently. Kind of like how I've heard people say they like it when the sacrament prayer has to be repeated.
