That's fine. The problem some of us had was that the original article didn't flag speculations as such and presented them as confirmed facts instead; a problem only magnified by the fact that a Tor article probably gets a ton more views than any single thread or article on this website, which - in my own opinion, at least - means it needs to pass all sorts of rigorous fact-checking before it gets published. But I approach much of Brandon's writing like an academic would approach a science journal, so maybe my opinion is not entirely valid in this...

Hey there, Chris (I assume). The one problem with tackling a topic like this is there is a lot we don't know about much of what you are trying to cover. So a lot of your write-up might end up either going away, or requiring a "We don't know if this is actually true" preface. Either way, my thoughts on your proposed changes: We don't know if Odium went to Threnody at all. He did go after Ambition, but couldn't find it; we don't know whether this happened before or after Ambition was in the Threnodite system. We do know he went to Sel after this failure, and then back to the Threnodite system - but Ambition's mortal wounding and its ultimate Splintering don't have to have happened on the planet Threnody specifically. No Vax. We don't know anything about Vax - including whether it is even a place. If you want to. I think it's more accurate to talk about the movement of the Shards, not their Vessels, as it is possible that (for example) Ruin changed owners (Vessels) a couple of times on its way to Scadrial. What is more important to you - Ati's journey, or Ruin's? There is no physical location for Silverlight. It, like the Ire's fortress, resides entirely in the Cognitive Realm somewhere. I confess to not having the rest of your article, so I can't comment on it, but I hope this at least is useful to you.

My comment was not addressed to you specifically, though the OP could be seen in such light. I mean, you are creating a thread about how wrong that article is. I don't say this to be bashful, just... playing Devil's advocate, I suppose. Either way, my words of caution come from a long time of monitoring this community and how it sometimes feels about other communities. The recent #FAQFriday / #CosmereQueries... outrage... about already-answered questions winning the polls is another (recent) example of this. Anyway, I didn't want to derail the thread (and a discussion along the lines we are having is definitely that). If you feel this is something that needs further addressing, I'll be happy to take it to PMs or a different thread, depending on whether you feel said addressing needs to be private or public.

Yolish. On topic, however, I wish to say only a little. It's easy for us, in this forum (and, recently, the Discords) to grow... arrogant in our knowledge, and I am more guilty of this than most, so I wanted to just urge everyone to keep in mind that most of Brandon's fans are nowhere near as diehard as we are, and we should avoid steering discourse towards "look at how wrong they are." Don't get me wrong, I am disappointed by how... incorrect... this article is, and how much visibility it will get, it being on Tor and all. I just don't want us to talk about it (much).

Unmaking the Canon - a resource for theorists
Argent replied to Extesian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Fortunately, Discord has an excellent mobile app Unfortunately, there are now two Discord servers full of theorists (the Shard's own, and the slightly older Cosmere Chat one), so keeping track of discussions can be a little annoying. Fortunately again, most of what we are doing in both of those is just spinning wheels. Not much new comes from our discussions, but they are sometimes good for digging obscure WoBs (or, alternatively, failing to find them). What's important here is that we don't know whether Hoid is a Feruchemist, and we don't know whether he used the lerasium bead to turn himself into an Allomancer; in fact, we don't know whether he is an Allomancer either, he could be using tech. Everything beyond that is headcanon, and I caution against it. -
It's generally better to ask your questions here first. If you go straight to us, you'll just drowned by all the questions some of the more vocal community members have been stockpiling for ages.

[OB] Clue to Odium's Imprisonment? (Spoilers)
Argent replied to Obnoxiousspren's topic in Stormlight Archive
But that's not what OP is saying, silly jofwu -
Probably a collection. The connection between most of the books are going to be fairly minimal, so I don't think the vast majority of the novels will qualify to be a single series. Raymond Feist's Riftwar Saga is kind of the other way this could've been done - it's about 30 books long, and each series that comprises it takes place in a different time period, with some recurring characters, but at the end even the last few books depend on and reference the first few.

Blightsong, chapter name analyzer. Has anyone reread the Taker of Secrets chapter recently? Is there anything else in it that could match the title?
-
True, true. But we are still lacking the full power of the pun.
-
We really need sentient alligators in the Cosmere, so we can make investigator puns more effectively...

I find it funny that I suggested... not the same, but a similar thing about 3 years ago, but since both of you are so new and wet behind the ears, you probably haven't even seen it. This fandom is going to be a really fun place a couple of decades from now...

Voting is as simple as waiting for Adam to share a link to the current poll on any one of Brandon's social media accounts (I know he posts on Facebook and Twitter, and it looks like he is starting to create blogs for them as well), and then visiting said link. As to submitting questions, I don't think there is an official way - my impression is that Adam just monitors what people are talking / asking about, and picks a few questions that either show up a lot, or sound interesting to him. But that last part is pure speculation on my end.

Arrival // The First Sanderson-esque Film?
Argent replied to hi.im.caleb's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Eeeh, you could see it that way. The climax of the movie has a feel you could describe as similar to how Brandon tends to write climaxes - a wrap-up that not only explains much of the mystery presented throughout the novel, but one that also shines a new light on some of the past events. In that sense I think the two are similar. I am not sure if I am ready to follow you on your other points, the evidence there feels much more situational and inconclusive (or maybe just not obvious enough) to me. But it's a fine movie, there's no doubt about that. -
Keep in mind that the Blightwind is not necessarily an Aimian thing - it's just a possible connection.

Which doesn't tell us much anyway, does it? The death rattles, caused by Moelach, definitely seem like a recent thing, but the Thrill - caused by Nergaoul - certainly can't be. Even with all the stigma surrounding discussing the Thrill with others, if it had been a recent thing I feel like a lot more characters would've remarked on it instead of simply accepting it as something that is. Plus, even if these two were recent, it doesn't necessarily mean that all of the Unmade became active all at the same time - it's even possible that some were never imprisoned (if the speculation that Gavilar's black sphere holds one is correct) or never went dormant, and have been out and about since Aharietiam.
-
That's a good catch, I think. My headcanon, developed just now, is that the scouring of Aimia was accomplished, or at least involved, some kind of a blight. Also if note is that It's interesting to consider that maybe an Unmade was involved in the scouring. Searching through the books, the Ishikk interlude has him say that "Vun Makak has blighted me right good today", which (judging from the context) seems to be a part of a kind of traditional exchange between Purelakers where they tell each other how they have suffered today. Finally, Words of Radiance features only a single mention of the word "blight", and it's in the Listener Song of Listing: I don't think this particular instance is of relevance, however.

Hmm, I didn't think anyone else knew about that particular ploy of mine...

This is actually a good opportunity to take a look at old sources and links (at least) and make sure they still work. I wouldn't mind if an effort was organized to (slowly) go over this old content and make sure nothing is missing from things like interview transcripts and Reddit threads.
-
But will it have a release trailer?
-
It's an idea that pops up every now and then - creating a SanderCon, similar to how Robert Jordan now has JordanCon. Brandon has even commented on the idea, and while I don't remember his exact words (nor can I find them easily), he is of the opinion that he'd rather not. An entire con about him strikes him as... I don't know how he would describe it, but I know he would prefer if he shared the con with other authors, and if it was made with greater focus on writing in general. This being said, currently he is more than happy just being a guest or a speaker to other cons. Guy's as humble as they get.

Right, but it's not speech they hear. It's screams.

Good god, Kenton looks like such a spoiled brat there.
