I would've preferred if the whole life-saving thing was a little more pronounced, something more interesting.

It is generally accepted that this refers to Kaladin standing against Moash during the most recent assassination attempt. I personally am not quite happy with how Moash fits "the one who saved my life" but the rest works nicely.

One last time before I continue Arcanum Unbound
Argent replied to Knghtstlker's question in Cosmere Q&A
I disagree with "definitely", but Secret History does feel better with The Bands of Mourning under your belt. -
Heeey, gon! Give us some fanart, don't be like that, we need this stuff more than a Horneater needs shells!

I've seen him walk and ride. Oh, and drive a carriage.

We have a Yahoo Answers entry on this, I feel like things don't get any more canon unless they come from an apostle.
-
Probably not, though I think it's a matter of just a few years (physiologically speaking).

I can respect that. It's hard to get more uncool than shorts, socks, and sandals.

Age is just a number, mom, don't let it show!

Chapter 19: The Subtle Art of Diplomacy Ah, yes. Nice to get a chapter in which young Dalinar acts with subtlety and delicacy. I am sure he'll behave. A normal human reaction the author draws our attention to, only to divert it later? Suspicious. I'm onto you, Dalinar's sweat! We were debating whether Kholinar had walls recently. Sure does. I wonder what the closest Earth analog would be. Busy guy. I've been assuming this is one of the infamous Stormstriders. The original draft of this chapter had just as little detail, I had hoped that Brandon would expand just a little bit... Classic. Ah, so that's why the trirach was accusing Dalinar of theft. "You insultin' mah biceps, bro? That it, bro? Well, check your eyes, bro, 'cause these babies lift 95s every day!" Chapter 20: Cords to Bind Hey, look who is being protecting and leading! Wait, didn't Syl refer to the spren as "him"? Ah, so they can now hear the Rhythms, but probably couldn't before. You know, when they were broken. That's a rough position to be in, Kaladin... I wonder how people from our own history dealt with the same problem - becoming too aware that the enemy is just like you. Chapter 21: Set Up to Fall Ah, yes, we are back to Shallan's descent into bad decisions. Alcoholism looks like the chef's special tonight. I am really enjoying how much Palona is mothering Shallan. Light knows, she needs it... YESSS! The meme, it only grows more powerful! Feed it, feed it more! Hah! Oh, that's a good point. Obviously. Is it Urithiru? Is it just the altitude? Is it the fact that Urithiru was built "in the place nearest to Honor" and so, for some reason, Stormlight depletes slower here? What? This is interesting. So much of Urithiru runs on Stormlight, I have to wonder - how did they fuel it, even back pre-Recreance? It seems like an awful lot of work to move large quantities of gems around. I feel like there might be a more efficient way to power up and recharge the entire city during a highstorm. Uhhh. Glad you are learning to live with this, Shallan... Real glad. It's good that this relationship is not as one-sided as it could've been. With so many Radiants around, it's easy to see Adolin as less capable, but he does bring a lot to the table. Oh, this is going to get messy...

I believe that is actually by design. I feel like we've seen Brandon comment how asking Isaac to try something exactly like when designing the script. If you don't mind a bit of advice from weary 27 years old man, never apologize for your enthusiasm, it's one of the purest emotions I can think of. But especially in this fandom, we all gush. All the time. A lot of us probably need to see a doctor about it.

Here's a relevant but not very informative WoB on the topic: http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=1151#65

He said that the pronunciation was not that important because the Alethi don't read glyphs, they memorize them.

Both are hard, though Isaac didn't have that information (or didn't get it from me).

Why did Hoid Seem Surprised when he first met Shallan
Argent replied to JayDeusMortis's question in Cosmere Q&A
It's a question I've been curious to find the answer to for a long time. Something must allow him to detect magic far more precisely than a Seeker - which we know is possible, most magic systems have some detection mechanism. Plus, he also seems to be aware of how far Kaladin has progressed in his Radiance - the first time he meets Kaladin, it is soon after Kaladin has learned how to reliably Invest, and Hoid jokes about keeping his Stormlight safe; the second time is after Kaladin has learned how to "fly", and Hoid once again jokes about Kaladin flying off on him.- 9 replies

I got to choose everything - from the version of the name(s) (I could've gone with Eugene, or Argent, had I so chosen; I could've even done something like Kirilovolirik, which hurts my brain to even look at) to the shape(s) I wanted them in. I came up with the book pretty much instantly (for obvious reasons), which is why you see the first iteration of the glyphs forming just a single image. A somewhat recent conversation with @Zmann966 supplied me the flame (for illumination and passion, I guess), and Isaac was kind of enough to do another design, this time with one name per image. Until then I had been struggling to find a good enough fit (I play paladins in many games, so I had been tinkering with some of the traditional paladin imagery, but nothing felt right).

I don't know of how much value this would be, but Isaac designed some glyphs for me. I wouldn't take them for 100% canon, as it looks like they not only have vowels, but are also a lot more phonetic than what we are used to. But (to me) they are also unquestionably cool, so I'll share them here.

As anyone who is anyone knows, I am more than a tiny bit obsessed with The Stormlight Archive. Everything and anything Brandon writes has a place in my heart, but Stormlight is especially dear to me. And while I will forever maintain that the series is revolutionizing the genre, I adore the small things, the in-world artifacts that add just a little bit of extra uniqueness. Shallan's drawings. The maps. The women's script. The Vorin glyphs. Especially the last. Something about the Vorin glyphs, the Alethi highprices' glyphpairs, captivated me the moment I laid my eyes on them, which is why I've been a huge fan of @Harakeke's translation guide. Skipping over all of the details, and 100% of the context, Isaac Stewart, Brandon's art director and creator of many of the wonderful artistic things I so enjoy in these books, designed some glyphs for me, to spell out my name. Now, I've looked at them, and I don't think they quite follow the conventions established in the books (because my names are not symmetrical, and I didn't want to try to adjust them to something unrecognizable just so that my glyphpair can feel closer to canon), but they are not entirely made up either. At his request, don't go swarming his inbox with requests - in doing these for me, he found out that he doesn't have as much time as he thought he does. To quote his email: "I can't take requests like that anymore. (I realized after making this one that I just have too much on my plate for projects outside of work.)." So, I am a little sorry about this, but also a little smug But allow me to present these glyphs to you (After another paragraph) If you want to appreciate the glyphs for their artistic value alone, you can do that, but if you are interested in cracking the code behind Isaac's brilliance, you'll need the spelling of my names (as the glyphs are design to reflect them). It's a little weird (not uncomfortable, just weird) to share this after so many of you have known me as Argent (which, if we are being honest, I kind of prefer...), but my name - and what Isaac used here - is Evgeni Kirilov. Whew, that was weird. Let's get to the glyphs now! The book spells "Evgeni", the flame spells "Kirilov". One image per glyph/name. And here are the two, separately: In addition to these, Isaac also created something more resembling a glyphpair for me: where the left glyph stands for "Evgeni", and the right - for "Kirilov. Stylized, these look like this: So there you have them. You should expect to see a lot of my online presence to shift towards using these, as I am OH SO HYPED YOU CANNOT BELIEVE!

Maybe we could negotiate a treaty with @The Queen Mother for an exchange students kind of program, except it's exchange children. @Kobold King gets stuck with some random uncool mom for 6 months, and a lucky child goes to have the time of its life.
