    Investiture on the surface of the planet is what @Bugsy6912 said. I assume this is a case of, for example, manifesting a physical object out of Investiture - an atium nugget, or a Shardblade. The thing is, I agree with pretty much everything in this analysis, but not necessarily because of the analysis itself. We have seen multiple WoBs throughout the years that essentially say that while in our universe matter and energy can be converted between each other, in the Cosmere this conversion goes threeway - matter, energy, and investiture. Here's (an excerpt of) one such WoB, for example: Source So a lot of the stuff in the write-up is trivially true to me. Another example you could've used is the once-infamous-but-now-mostly-forgotten Terris Wheel: (here's another version of it) So yeah, a lot of what looks to us like physics-breaking infinite energy situations work just fine in the Cosmere because you have this massive reserve of often freely usable energy in the form of Spiritual investiture.

    *sigh* Is this a useful and meaningful reply to this conversation? You can probably find a counterexample to anything I say, but does that contribute? My experience tells me that the vast majority of people on Earth do not discriminate based on hair color, beyond the occasional ginger or blonde joke, and those are rarely serious. Which would've made comparison from earlier at least understandable to most people here, which in turn would make your pedantic reply... unnecessary. Do I need to try to choose a better example - perhaps Hitchhiker's thumb? Earlobe connectedness? Or will you shoot these down for the sole purpose of proving how wrong I am?

    I think we can settle on the Alethi noticing skin color (because it's kind of, you know, obvious), but not thinking much of. Similarly to how we don't usually treat people differently based on their hair color.

    Here's another idea - the man could be Melishi, the Bondsmith who turned the Voidbringers into parshmen. Running with that idea, the woman could be the spren Gavilar mentions in the prologue, the one responsible for the Listeners' transformations (she is vibrant, and the masks could point to that). A bit far-fetched for my normal liking, but I like it thematically.

    I am relatively confident about Ishar because of the Bondsmith symbol. The lady though... not a fan of Vivenna, unless her role in the series is much bigger than I thought. Both her dress and her mask(s) make it seem like she is not in the Physical Realm, maybe a spren of some sort, maybe even the Nightwatcher. Who knows, it's too good to think!

    There are massive Era 1 spoilers in Secret History. Almost none for Era 2, but the ending of The Bands of Mourning ties nicely into something from Secret History, so it's a little better if you read them in this order.

    I would not be surprised. Listening to recordings of past signings, I know at least a couple of people have brought sticks, though I don't remember if Brandon has signed any of them.

    I would, however, definitely not read it until you've read at least the first Mistborn trilogy. My recommendation would be to go at it after you've read The Bands of Mourning, book 7, and to not even look at it until then.

    It is not too much, no, but he may not recall the symbol you ask him for easily. Especially since it is Isaac Steward, his art director, who designs these things.
