  1. I feel like the bigger problem is that Taretribution would be in charge of accepting oaths. So in theory yes, they could swear oaths, but in practice Taretribution can just say “These Words are not accepted.” Unless he can’t because of Spiritual Mumbo Jumbo/Honor telling him he has to accept legitimate oaths.
  2. Yeah, I don’t get why people are so uptight about the ad hominem issue. Yes, ad hominem attacks are a fallacy and don’t prove anything about anything. But they work. That’s a real world problem that people have, is that often times the better argument/person actually loses because of character attacks.
  3. Yeah I feel like too often people just say “Jasnah is really smart, she shouldn’t do this.” But I think it was good to show that 1. She is fallible, she isn’t perfect in the argumentative sense even though some people think she is 2. Some of her philosophies are at best morally grey and 3. A Shard of Adonalsium with the expanded mind of a god is a scary thing in more than one way.
  4. All of this is my opinion; Good (or well done, I should say) -Kaladin’s ending. While I think him becoming a Herald was a tad bit rushed, I like the way Brandon went about it. He made it work in a way that fit with Kaladin’s improvement and change. -Tanavast POV. Seeing the struggle between Tanavast trying to do what he thinks is right vs Honor resisting was I think the best way to do “Honor was kind of bad.” It still made the Almighty that we see in the previous books legitimately the good guy, while also adding nuance. -Death Rattles being resolved. I liked how all of the chapter titles at the end tied all the way back to that. -Szeth flashbacks -General vibe at the end. Everything sucks, we have no clue what happened, the world is ending around us, and all we can do is wait. Bad -Screentime on hyped-up characters. El had like 3 chapters that we saw him in. Ba-Ado-Mishram, other than just sitting in the background watching, didn’t really do much. -Gavinor. Ugh. He couldn’t just do child champion (which could have gone well), he then had to make him angry YA Gavinor. Surely Odium wasn’t planning on Ghostbloods shoving Gav into the SR from the beginning, right? -Moash. He keeps coming back in a new way and that just seems really clunky. So now he has Hemalurgy, but with weird crystals? Ok, sure. Interesting -Nightblood can grant surges now. -Time dilation during the time jump to the back half -What’s going on with the fourth moon? Why is this such a big secret, and why is it special? Does it imply that a fourth shard is in the system? -Is Canticle just Braize 2.0?
  5. I think you can trade them at the Silverlight Mercantile in the exhibit hall. I also saw people trading in Komashi.
  6. It is with great regret that I must leave this group, as I have turned 18 as of this week. Goodbye, comrades!
  7. I think he’s taking about Vin giving up the power at the end of WoA. It was the “wrong choice” that freed Ruin, but it was selfless because she did it instead of saving Elend.
  8. Because some of the metals, like pewter, can give heavy metal poisoning, which I think is why the question came up in the first place. It’s also possible that Hoid just isn’t affected by it, though since he’s special.
  9. What’s funny to me is that right now Honor’s champion winning is losing the poll. It’s times like this where I think it’s unfortunate that we already know that there will be another series of Stormlight and that the only ostensibly guaranteed good ending is after book 10.
  10. The only thought that came to my minds when Kaladin mentioned that he and Adolin are brothers now was the Death Rattle about standing over the body of a brother and weeping. “Is it his blood or mine? What have we done?” And that scares the living crap out of me.
  11. Dude that’s actually hilarious! Does this mean that Shallan will be more stable now that she doesn’t have any free electrons… I mean free spren bonds?
  12. The copy of TWoK he’s holding I think was meant to be an Easter egg for the real-world leatherbound. I don’t know how I didn’t notice the giant bolts of red lightning before, but it’s definitely the Everstorm. I definitely agree that it doesn’t seem like Urithiru. If it was it would have to be a balcony of some sort because of the top of the tower is that small, then we’re due for an either very interesting or very disappointing battle of champions. Regarding the polestones, I don’t necessarily know if there’s a significance to which polestones are missing. People keep saying there’s nine, but I don’t think it’s a bad assumption at all to say that there would be another stone either behind the rocks in the front left corner or outside of the cover on the right side. And the American covers of the Stormlight Archive are absolutely incredible. Definitely the best Brandon covers, the Mistborn ones are either not very artistic or too cartoony IMHO. They are a huge part of the books for me and even if they aren’t canonical, they definitely provide at least a small bit of information that I use to visualize the characters, scenes and background.
  13. According to Brandon’s website, it’s actually the Way of Kings. It’s supposed to look like the real-world WoK leatherbound as a sort of easter egg.
  14. Nothing wrong with a bye. Means you’re better at showing up. I do LD.
  15. Bro same. I’m just glad I can read SA 5 before I go! I have to wait until the end of December.
  16. I have officially arrived. May our bows always be the perfect tightness and our endpins ever sharp (unless you have one of those rubber tip things).
  17. How’d the tourney go? What’s your event? (Also I’m a 7 year cellist so I can be here)
  18. I’m just joining but same. Dragonsteel Minicon will be my birthday present. I’m kind of sad I didn’t find this forum until today.
  19. For similar reasons I think this might involve The Grand Apparatus. Maybe one of the Dragon Palaces is some weird mechanical/clockwork building and that’s it?
  20. You’re so dumb you walked from Urithiru to Abamabar You’re so ugly you give people on Ashyn powers Youre so stupid you use Bestowers lenses to give people IQ points
  21. Very cool, very fancy 8/10
  22. It was Mark Zuckerberg. Cosmere in real life confirmed.
  23. I disagree with this for a couple of reasons. 1. Hoid says in Tress that he was involved in a plot to kill God (Adonalsium). Yes, being the victim could count as involved, but the way he phrases it doesn’t sound like that to me. 2. Brandon has been asked before if Hoid was Adonalsium. I will admit, I cannot find the WoB in question, but I am absolutely sure that it exists. Hoid is not Adonalsium. 3. Dragonsteel takes place before the Shattering. That’s Hoid’s origin story. It wouldn’t make sense to be before the Shattering if Hoid didn’t exist until Adonalsium shattered.
  24. Dude the same thing happened to me, my preorder came a few days early. Currently I’m exhausted, trying to get through school, but it’s was totally worth staying up until midnight to read this. And as a Wayne Fan, I was extremely happy with this ending. After all, he saved the whole goshdang planet!
  25. Sorry, to clarify, I mean they probably just used regular dynamite or something to simulate the sound and vibrations of an eruption. This bothered a lot of people on the surface, too, but it mentioned that they only feel them every couple of months.
