Hi! 

Today I had the thought (one I've had before) that I missed the community on the Shard and finally decided to act on it. So I'm back! I don't think I'll do much for now, I'm trying to ease back into it so I don't overwhelm myself. But just opening this gives me good feelings, so I hope to do so much with all the amazing people here! 

Well it's 9:57 in the evening and I want to go to bed.

But it's also May 16th.

Again.

Somehow.

And, somewhat unfortunately, this takes precedent over sleeping a reasonable amount.

First and foremost.

AHHHHHHHH WHAT THE ACTUAL FREAKING HECK HOW HAVE I BEEN ON HERE FOR FIVE YEARS????

I've been on here for five years.

I uh... technically joined when I was 12, but we don't talk about that. Or any of my early posts. 

A whole hecking lot has changed over those five years, and a lot of it in no small part thanks to this site and the amazing people I've come into contact with. You all got me through a really rough patch (AKA middle school) and then about two years ago I got onto Discord and just got to know some people even better.

You all are amazing.

Time to start the list. 

@The Awakened Salad SALAD. Thank you for being the other half of STAELSAHD, for putting up with me despite all of my many erm... moments of being a crummy friend, and for forgiving me. Every time I look at the moon I think of you and your 42 elbow-ed arms reaching down to pat me on the head. You're one of my best friends and I don't know what I'd do without you. And I know that I most certainly wouldn't be where I am without you at this point. And thanks, of course, for watching Barbie movies with me in the ungodly hours of the morning. Honestly, those are some of my fondest memories. Dragons!!!

@AonEne Eeeeeeeeeeeeene. I can't even put into words how awesome you are. Like dude. You ROCK. You're one of my closest friends, and the FAB squad just wouldn't be the same without you. I mean, then we'd just be the AB squad, and that'd be weird... But you're just so kind and amazing and funny and I love you so much. Hanging out with you in person is always a joy, and VCs are always an adventure. Thank you so much for coming to the anthology release, and putting up with my weird ramblings about stuff. You're amazing. Avi!!! Also I've been on the Shard longer than you so HAH. 

@Knight of Iron Koi. I gave you your nickname and I'll be forever proud of that fact. You're such an amazing, kind, considerate, and thoughtful friend. I love talking with you so much, and just... You're amazing. Thanks for the help figuring out Hollow Knight, and for talking about random stuff. You're one of the best people to talk to about Random Stuff. Honestly, you're just a really cool person and I really really value our friendship. 

@Ed Venture Vennie! I LOVE YOU. I love talking about musicals with you, and often times the more serious aspects of life and stuff. You're honestly just one of the kindest people I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with. I can't wait for the day when we'll be able to watch a musical together. It will happen some day, and it'll be so much fun when it does. 

@Channelknight Fadran Fadrinooooooo. THANK YOU for going to all those awesome writing things with me. You're so much fun to hang out with at them, and your chaotic energy is infectious. Thanks for yelling at everyone to play Hollow Knight. I suck at it, but it's fun, and I wouldn't be playing it if you didn't talk about it all the time. 

@DramaQueen Have I ever told you that you're just a really really cool person? You're such an amazing friend and I just love talking with you. You and Fadran are adorable and I can't wait to be your basement gremlin. We'll go see musicals all the time and drag Fadran to all of them so that he will actually have to listen to them.  Tell Petri I say hi!

@Condensation I love talking to you and hanging out with you and just... you're cool. It was so much fun to hang out with you that night in March. I don't have much that's very specific to say, just I love you and you're such a good friend.

@Vapor VASPIE. You are the bestest bowl. And, once again, hanging out with you that night in March was one of the best nights ever. It was just a blast. I love you so much. Tell Chowder I say hi.  

@Mist I haven't really talked with you much lately, but you're such a cool person. Meeting was really cool, and I hope we can see each other again before too long. 

@Doomstick Shortie. Thanks for coming and visiting me this winter! That was such a fun day and I'm really glad I had that opportunity to hang out with you. You're a huge fricking nerd and just an all-around cool person. DFTBA!

@Hentient ALSO DFTBA. Thank you for being the cameraman at Fadran's birthday party! I really hope I can meet you in person some time soon. (Wait I just realized that you'll be at the same school as one of my IRL friends from where I live.) You're also a super cool person. Tell Toto I say hi! And DFTBA!

@S4S You're one of my oldest friends from here. You've been there since the beginning. And I'm so sorry you were there at the beginning.  You're also a super cool person (is it just me, or am I friends with a lot of really cool people? Maybe I have a knack for finding you all.) and a super talented writer. Talking to you again after two years was amazing. I can't even tell you how cool that was. All I can really say is thank you. 

@Firerust You've also been around for quite a while! Thank you for carrying on KotC for so long. You're also a very talented writer, and a very good friend. And, like with S4S, talking to you again after those two years was an incredible experience. Thanks for hanging around.  

@King Aragorn of Gondor You're also super cool!!! Talking to you is always so much fun and I always tend to stay up later than I mean to when I do.  Thanks for being awesome. Tell Bucky I say hi! He's such a good birb.

This is by no means everyone. I'm missing a ton. However, if I did miss you, this is for you: YOU'RE SO COOL AND SUCH AN AMAZING HUMAN AND THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE. 

The Shard has honestly been a huge part of my life, and generally for the better. Thank you all for being here with me for it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

My goodness. Shardiversary. Four years ago I joined this website...wow. Four years ago I was in freshman year of high school??? Where did the time go!? I'M A SENIOR NOW?? WHAT??? NO. HELP.

I guess...I really need to thank you all for giving me a lot of the reasons I'm still kicking nowadays. Thank you for helping me become...me. Who I am. Venture is now a pretty neat person, I think. Go me. Thank you. Go you.

So, in no exact order, the reminders of love and affection to the many many people who have influenced me over the course of my time here, beginsssss now.

@Condensation Hello There. Dang, wow. It's good to see you nowadays, y'know? We didn't know each other as well as we could've a short while back, but I'm so glad that we get to talk a lot more. You're such a creative person, and even through all the life stuff you’ve been having to mess with, you’ve still been Connie, my dear friend, the Grammar Queen (I sorely apologize for any future typos). I’m genuinely proud of you Con. I still owe you Wendy’s don’t I…hm…Regardless. You're amazing, and I am the better for having met you.

@Emi Do you know how in awe of you I am nowadays? I have seen you grow so much as a person, I'd be tempted to say you're almost unrecognizable. But I could never forget your endearing presence: anime, art, and all. And can I say dang your art is getting good. I know you won’t see this for a week or two, but you’ll be in my mind the whole time. I’m glad that you have such great friendships nowadays, and I am glad that I number among them.

@FriarFritz What can I say? You mean a lot to me. Not just because you recommended Arcane to me. I've always loved how passionate you are, how much you care for people. I make an effort to emulate the ideal you provide every day. Thank you for giving that to me. Thank you for the reminders and small acts of kindness, they give me such joy. @JesterLavorre I actually managed to play Magic: The Gathering with someone, even if it was only online, and you’re really good at it too! Also. Also also also. Sleepless Domain is pretty good, huh? Okay, well... It's 1:30 here and I've finally woken up.

Woken up enough to tell you about the absolute weirdest thing that's happened to me all year!

So... last night. I'm getting ready for bed, piling on blankets, trying to draw Elya from Zvso (it turned out terribly and will never see the light of day), and my dad comes in to let me know that it's gonna be really cold that night. He makes sure I have plenty of blankets and everything before going.

I fell asleep at a reasonable hour (probably), and... had a dream about space? I don't know if this was before or after the weird thing. I think it was after (I'll get to it later).

At about 1:00 in the morning I wake up. I could've sworn I had heard some guy asking me for my bed. Probably just some weird dream carryover, right?

Yep! Exactly!

But my brain was having none of that.

Somehow--in, like, under a couple seconds--came to the conclusion that this strange noise had a whole backstory and everything. Apparently (according to my sleep-deprived brain), my dad had randomly welcomed in some homeless guy to our house and told him (and the kids) that he was allowed to take any of our beds at any point tonight. So, of course, this alleged homeless guy had come to claim mine, and I got out for him like a nice person.

So I took a single blanket and lay down on the floor for the night, freezing and exhausted from being woken up at such an hour.

It wasn't until about five minutes later that I realized that there probably wasn't actually a homeless guy in my bed.

There ya go. Weirdest thing to ever happen to me. Ask me later if you wanna hear the dream (I went to space! On accident!)

Well, it’s that time of the year again. The beginning of winter is always such a special time for me. Three years ago, I got the Mistborn trilogy as a Christmas gift, and the rest is history; those books have changed my life forever. Without them… Well, storms, I wouldn’t even want to think about where I’d be today. But oh my goodness, how I’ve grown in the last three years. I joined the Shard still struggling to find my identity, and now I’ve found it. The characters I used to rely on as my only friends still reside in my heart, but now? Now I have you guys. Thank you so, so, so much, everyone. So, without further adieu, let’s start with the shout outs.

I can’t talk about early winter without talking about my boyfriend @The Ward's Guard. When I met him, I was in one of the worst places of my life since the pandemic started. I have grown miles because of him. I don’t tell him how much I love him as often as I should, so… Guard, babe. I love every piece of you, from your floofy hair, to the spaces between your lovely toes. I look forward to the next time we can hug each other with all my being. Thank you for keeping my soul warm. You deserve the world, but since I don’t have that, I’ll just give you mine and we can share. 

@xinoehp512: You’re a gem, hun. I am ALWAYS here for you, and I think the rest of the Shard would be willing to talk to you when you need it, too. You’re the best writer I know and I bow to that skill.  I know you’ve been going through a hard time recently and the deepest wells of my heart are just dripping with hope for you. You’re a phoenix, after all, aren’t you? Phoenixes rise from the ashes. I don’t know when, but one day, you’ll feel better. For now? Just keep pushing forward and being nice to yourself. Have some hot cocoa. Go to sleep early. Make time for yourself to relax. And finally, I just want to say thank you. Your ideas for CBST and Keyed have shaped the person I’ve become for the better, even if you’re not writing them right now. You have a very special place in my heart, darling. So fly, fly, Phoenix, fly. 

@Ed Venture: Oh, c’mere, you sweet little teddy bear, you. *hugs* I’m so freaking proud of you, my Vennie. I’ve watched you evolve over the last two and a half years and you are so much more mature. I know our relationship has been pretty rocky, but that just makes it all the cooler than we’re friends again now, even if we don’t talk to each other all that often. I wish only the best for you. Thank you so much for being willing to hear all my rants about CBST and Keyed. You’re truly a saint to have put up with me for that long.

*ruffles hair* You are my precious child, @King of the Oreo and I love you. Thank you so, so, so much for all the gifts you sent me;  treasure each one. You are so thoughtful and so strong to have gone through all that you have. I’m so glad you’re willing to reach out to me when you need it; that can be really scary sometimes. Your art is incredible; I love how many difficult poses you try to tackle, that’s impressive. I really hope I can meet you one day and give you a hug for real. You truly remind me of myself when I was younger; just infatuated with books that have shaped you, and more than a little bit broken. If you ever need anything, I am right here. Love you, my man. 

@Condensation and @Vapor: Girls, I loved seeing you SO much, and I hope we can hang out again if we come to Utah this summer. I love your art so much, Connie, you just keep working at it. You’re a very special kid, never forget that for me, okay? You are seen, you are loved, you are Connie, and I believe Connie to be a powerhouse of love. Keep drawing, keep RPing, keep struggling against a life that tries to drown you. You’ll make it to shore one day, all the stronger, all the brighter for what you’ve gone through. *smiles encouragingly* And Vapor… It’s like what I said to Xino. Things will get better. It’s always darkest before dawn, but after the rain, the sun shines again. Thank you so much for confiding in me. Sometimes I honestly think of you as my kid; I just love you so, so, so much. I am always here for you. Stars, I wish to the ends of the earth that you could see yourself through my eyes; you’re so beautiful, inside and out, with the kindest, gentlest soul. Keep living. If not for yourself, then for us. I’m not the only one who sees you the way I do, that I promise you. 

*slaps shoulder affectionately* First of all, @Channelknight Fadran, thank you so much for being a part of Masquerade (you, too, Connie and Vapor). It wouldn’t be as great as it is without your creative genius. You never fail to make me happier after we chat, you master wordsmith, you. *boops nose* You just keep being your wonderful self. I look forward to collaborating with you further on the Masquerade novel.

And last, but certainly not least, @Jaywalk. My doppleganger. I hope you’re doing well at college. I miss having you around to talk to. Your characters are incredible and I wish you all the success with your novel. Thank you for being an awesome human. 

And for those of you who didn’t get called out... I love each and every one of you. ~~Except for Steve, but don’t tell him that~~ I loved seeing some of you at the meet ups this summer, and others I dearly wish I could meet up with in person. Thank you for making this a great, accepting community where my younger self could discover what she was made of. Shards, I can’t believe it’s been three years already. Tempus fugit, I guess. Hopefully this year will be a little better than the previous one; I do feel like I’m finally reclaiming my life from the depression and anxiety guarding it, but that doesn’t mean there’s still work to be done. Still, you’ll all be happy to know that upon writing this… I’m on top of the world. It’s been too long since I’ve felt like this, but I’m eating it up like a woman starved. *wistful sigh* Happy new year. May it be your best one yet.
