  1. You probably already realise it, but that "for some reason" isn't exactly the most convincing argument. Also I still don't see why you insist on Stoneshaping being pure Cultivation While that's fair, there are other just as simple explanations that exists (or simpler depending of who you ask). The "three hybrid magic systems" hypothesis for example The article also mention that Truesprens were push back toward the CR so I'm wondering if the Oathgates were unaffected because I don't see a reason to assumed a corrupted NW would give different powers from a corrupted Sibling beyond maybe the light they're able to create Could be both though
  2. That's why I'm assuming it's the one that's different from the other, my hypothesis that the others are normally stored in the mind of the bearer while this one is stored inside an object carried by the bearer. Which would be why Hoid is "the bearer of the first gem" while Rysn is "the Dawnshard of Change" I suspect human were a nearly monoplanetary race before the Shattering and a lot of them left with the Shards
  3. Probably 10 000 years, that's roughly when the Shattering happened Also the Oathbringer scene where he tell Hoid to never trust anyone who says they're able to see the future, including him. By the way, that's basically the plot of the Emperor's Soul (on a smaller scale and minus the tears) That could just be that big A gave a symbolic (or magical) meaning to some stones That's not that surprising considering they hated each other even before Rayse became the god of hatred That really sound that something Hoid would do, especially considering what he did in the Emperor Soul (or rather, what he did before it) Considering he didn't know he went to Kholinar to save Design, he probably didn't I love it In his letter, Frost mention that "the gemstone is now dead", probably because Hoid used all it contained As funny as it would be, topaz are worth more than diamonds I suspect it contained the Dawnshard that's different from the three other and that for some reason (probably related to the Shattering) it can't be put back in there Unless Brandon changed his plan, he was probably already called Topaz before the Shattering
  4. Honestly it's surprising it's not an issue that comes up more often than that Why isn't there four magic system then? There have been four different lights on Roshar for a very long time Are you sure they didn't Enlighten one of the Sprens so that it works using both lights, like they did in Kholinar? The Nightwatcher, definitely. It should be possible to corrupt the Cusicesh but we don't know whether they are big enough that they'd be considered an Unmade (from my understanding, only corrupted Godsprens count as Unmade, it's possible Cusi is just a very big (true?)spren like the oathgate sprens) The Stormfather could be to big to be corrupted; especially if the theory that Honour was neatly cut in two, one being the SF and the other being the Half-Shard of Unity. The structure probably comes from the stellar system being created ten-centric by big A My hypothesis is that all of the Voids have some temporal effects: visions of other possible current selves for Illumination, visions of other possible future selves for Progression, visions of possible future for the Progression-Illumination hybrid. Frustration's hypothesis that all the temporal stuff is in Illumination.
  5. Semantics. My point was that in universe when people say "X used the Surges" they're not always talking of Surgebinding
  6. Really? You dispute that Renarin is using illumination? The same "the definition of corruption is..." that I said latter
  7. Still poses the issues that I don't see how you can meaningfully define "correspond to a Light" as different to "correspond to one/multiple Shard. That's what you meant? Ok I had misunderstood. When speaking of Cultivation's magic system, most people mean "a system that's mainly of Cultivation" in the sense that Surgebinding is mainly of Honour. Also, I don't really where you see Honour in Fabrials (aside from the part where they're made by scientists but that's far from enough) For this discussion we must not conflate "using a Surge" and "Surgebinding". Renarin is using a Surge when he Voidbinds Because they observed there was ten powers? Remember, Voidbinding only comes from the Unmades most of the time. Do we have any evidence Honour never invested Braize and that it was nine centric even before Odium came? Also Is almost certainly not true. Elsecallers are supposed to be able to teleport, even if Jasnah doesn't know how, and it's very unlikely Edgedancers can't increase muscular mass with Growth. 3^16-1=43 046 720 actually (for each Shard, chose "in", "out" or "anti", remove the case where everyone said "out") There's always a (tenuous) chance it's actually Micrkinessis That's just Oathless Surgebinding, I don't see the issue. I don't remember Renarin ever speaking oaths. Note that (spoiler) The deffinition of corrupting a power is "using the power of a Shard to fuel the magic system of another Shard". Neither was Surgebinding
  8. I fail to see what it could mean for a magic system to be based on a light and not a Shard, a light is literally the power of a Shard put in fluid form. The Fused are not mimicking the Surgebinding, they are using Honour's Surgebinding while using Odium's power as a fuel. Which is why they get red eyes Probably because there once were ten Made and Odium only managed to corrupt nine of them. I mean, it's quite suspicious that there's an Unmade corresponding to each order except the only one connected to the only Truespren that have any chance to have existed before the Shattering. Extraordinary claims require inordinate evidences
  9. From the WoB you gave I'd say the Aethers beings similar to BAM or the Stormfather except most of their investiture is in the SR so people can use them offworld
  10. I meant "normal" as "intended". I'll take your answer as a yes. From the name I assume it's not the same colour as Mraize's crystal? Yeah, these ones are wierd. Why do you think these two are suspect? We know both Honour and the Dor can grant different forms of teleportation (Devotion could almost certainly grant it by herself but that's another subject) and if they're like Aon Tia they'll be more relevant to Space Age Cosmere than any of the other Aethers
  11. Is it normal this is in Cosmere discussion and not in Unpublished? If yes it would probably be a good idea to give a reminder of what the Aether do, considering most people here haven't read AoN and the wiki doesn't have a list of the Aether's powers. To help with the discussion, is an Aether able to create pink crystals or one know to create hard-to-wash stains ?
  12. Both are explained in the post Voidus linked, also please don't double post
  13. I was talking about D&D. But yes, if they hadn't gone to war Preservation and Ruin would have fit it very well to
  14. I only remember WoBs saying they were like Yin and Yang, which I think would means "opposite but complementary" and not "opposite and enemies" Makes sense
  15. The fact Change is there might not be a coincidence, depending on whether it came here before of after Odium. Is that an assumption or a fact?
  16. And this is the reason Inkspren and Honoursprens hate each other
  17. As far as intellectual curiosity is concerned, yes it does.
  18. The answer is "Brandon will never tell us whether the CS is a new being with your memories or is still the previous being"
  19. He took out a blue cyrstal shaped like a half-circle and put it on his head The bells were ringing in the dale And men looked up with faces pale; The dragon's ire more fierce than fire Laid low their towers and houses frail. So the music casque still worked. Good. He went out and took out a pink crystal shaped like a L, except the long end was pointy. Some short faint strings of pink light converged to the crystal and three pink spheres were consecutively shot toward the ground. He inspected the damages dealt to the grass, concluding that though the blaster was a bit slower to shot here it was still as damaging. Now came the most important test, he took the black cylinder inside his pocket. A few black strings appeared around it and light in the zone one meter after the cylinder became warped as if it had come close of a black hole. He smiled. The gravity stick may be weaker than the massive clubs red mages used and than the blaster of true arcane mages, but it was still debilitating. And no armour known to men could stop gravity. Da'ar turned his stick off and went to Fadran "Excuse me, did you say something about toppling an evil empire?"
  20. We know there's one but we have no idea which
  21. That's not how I remember it. I remember him trying to save as much as possible and only managing to save one city. It seems to me that if Smartvangian had thought sacrificing Karbranth would help save the rest he would have done it. That's indeed a risk of that happening. A lot of Dalinar's and Navani's viewpoint chapters will probably be them making sure it doesn't happen in case of a defeat.
  22. Ok, I misread you I thought you meant "because Todium is the Karbanth's queen uncle" I doubt Jasnah would do that. First she knows Odium is likely to just refuse the deal and second such an action would make the other kick Alethkar out of the coalition
  23. Yes. She's utilitarian not vengeful or mad.
