[ROW Spoiler question] Who all can accept Oaths??
Honorless replied to athosdebro86's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hmm... are you religious? Do you believe in Creationism? -
Well it's not exactly Hemalurgy, it's Raysium's intrinsic property to be a good conductor of Investiture, and have Investiture flow through it, from the most Investiture positive area to the most Investiture negative area. It might follow the same fundamentals as Hemalurgy but it's not the same thing. We don't know Raysium's Hemalurgic properties.

[ROW Spoiler question] Who all can accept Oaths??

A big point of the book was that spren are people too: with the trial, the Sibling, Sja-Anat, Syl -
Welcome to the Shard! Well, no an introduction thread isn't a requisite, it's a meet and greet to talk with new members and make them feel welcome and comfortable, and answer a few basic forum questions, if they have any (and discuss favorites, etc. because we're chatterbox bookworms). Most of the site features are fairly intuitive and you can explore and figure them out with time. Feel free to ask if you have any problems.

Yelig-Nar might forego Adhesion too, we certainly didn't see neither Aesudan nor Amaram use that Surge. I'm trying to say that it's the same ten Surges in the Rosharan System, though they might look different when fuelled by different Shards. The Voidbinding chart's Surges are similar to the Surgebinding ones, though half flipped, and the Fused also use the Surges, though their expression of the Surges is different. So, the Voidbinding Surge that's the closest to Odium, would have an analogue in Surgebinding, if it's Void Division, then Division, or if it's Void Illumination then Illumination, and so on.

The same type of magic can be accessed in various ways, Atium and Moelach both access Fortune to do the same. Voidbinding originating with the Unmade might not necessarily be true but simply part of the mythos of Roshar. Brandon had said that there's no one to one correlation between the Unmade and the Orders I don't think the Fused are in constant contact with the Unmade either, like you said and has been theorised since Oathbringer, the Fused might not be Voidbinding but using Surgebinding via a different method than the Nahel Bond.

Welcome to the Shard! Don't worry about the formatting, if anything's wrong with it, you can always ask around for help. Hope to see you around on the forums!

From the chapter A Loose Thread "Nearby, Renarin had stepped up to the family with the sniffling children. He summoned a small globe of light, then began bouncing it between his hands. Such a simple thing, but the children who saw it grew wide-eyed, forgetting their fear. The ball of light was bright blue. Part of Navani felt it should be red—to reveal the true nature of the spren that hid inside Renarin... They had managed to recruit several standard Truthwatchers—and they could create illusions like Shallan. Renarin couldn’t do that. He could only summon lights, and they did strange, unnatural things sometimes.…" As for the futuresight: "Glys, who preferred to hide within Renarin, grew excited. He’d captured this vision as it came, so they could study it... Around Renarin, the stained glass windows began to crumble. It took Stormlight and effort by Glys to re-create them—and he was plainly getting tired. Gradually, Renarin’s world became normal..." It seems to be a joint effort between Renarin and Glys. And it's possible that the futuresight itself is not Illumination, which seems to be supported by the banishing light, which might have been a combo of Progression and Illumination, the former to access the Spiritually perfect self and the latter for the light, as well as the lights with other esoteric effects that Renarin is said to be able to summon. I've argued before futuresight can be seen as Illumination of Progression, a Resonance of sorts.

While he can probably access Voidlight, he uses an Honorblade and it's not like Stormlight is hard to come by, so it's probably just that.

Jezrien became Yezrien but Jasnah will remain Jasnah That Devotion had a hand in AonDor because why would her Splinters contain Aons?
-
Oh right, the Mink/the Herdazian General!

Which are still the same Rosharan Surges, as we see with the Fused and the symbols on the Voidbinding chart, though they might express themselves differently.

The Possibility of More Than 3 Bondsmiths
Honorless replied to FrostiiBeren's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The Unmade seem to have been natural spren of Roshar before they were unmade by Odium, so Bonding them should be possible. We saw Re-Shephir try it too. And Brandon has confirmed that it could be done: Given how it was said that trying to have more than 3 Bondsmiths was "seditious", just the way it was phrased makes me think that the Unmade might have been capable of Bonding a Bondsmith. I think this could still happen in the future as a possible resolution. -
[ROW Spoiler question] Who all can accept Oaths??
Honorless replied to athosdebro86's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The Sibling is still as much a person, regardless of their humanity, same goes for a sufficiently developed AI. I'd call them however they identify as. Besides, this isn't just a technicality thing, this is more of a gender identity thing. Be nice! I don't know about Ishar creating the Oaths, he might've put limitations tying back to the Oaths. The Oaths seem more based on the spren's nature. How more dangerous powers are locked till progressing further in the the Ideals however seems more like an intelligent design, though that could've been Honor and/or Cultivation. -
Haha, that one is a divisive question, I rather liked it actually. Sadly it's the only book I've read so far by the author.
-
As for Malata, that probably has to do with how much perception plays into the Oaths and the Ashspren seem to not care all that much about good character of their Radiants as much as getting revenge for the Recreance and I suspect their spren don't have great self-control, that's the impression they've given me and they'd sort of mirror their Radiants this way, like how Cryptics are interested in lies.
-
The Third Ideal allows Radiants to summon their spren in the form of Shardblades, Shardplate comes after the Fourth Ideal. For some Orders, certain parts of their powers are locked till they reach a higher Ideal: like Dustbringers and Skybreakers, who don't get access to the Surge of Division straight away.

Oo, nice collection! So much Sanderson content! It's surreal to see how much content he's put out. Asimov is awesome! Hmm... I see Rothfuss, Pullman & Jemisin on your shelf, good taste!

He fulfilled his role perfectly, imo. He was supposed to be this terrifying enemy who relentlessly pursued you, who has this legend of inevitability. Except you don't know the legends, and so he doesn't strike fear in your heart because of that. His personality has eroded away with time, his routine tradition is pretty much all that remains, take that from him and he crumbles. He has no reputation, he is not used to someone not running and instead turning the tables on him. His fall was poetic and he was supposed to go from menacing to pathetic.

From State of the Sanderson 2020: We have a name for the Sixth of the Dusk YA novel! The Threnody novel has had a placeholder name for a while for those who didn't know: the Dust Brigade. "A Secret Standalone Cosmere Book"... Vax? Magic Kites one has been suspected to be an Aethers novel (this is where the idea for Aethers and Spren was back a long time ago in Sanderson's mind, check it out in the TWG Archives, and apparently even after all this time he still wants to do it), might be set in RoW spoilers He really does want to do this Sixth of the Dusk sequel and is wondering how to cut out overt spoilers, as he's mentioned before, which is good for our chances of getting this novella!

I had Mistborn recommended to me, so I started off with the Final Empire. I saw absolutely none of the twists coming, lol. Hmm.. Have you read the Arcanum Unbounded? A lot of people missed that one and so missed that there are multiple short stories set in the Cosmere like Emperor's Soul, Sixth of the Dusk, Secret History, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, etc...

Welcome to the Shard! So, how did you discover Sanderson?

[Theory!] Aviar are descendants of Dragons!

Children can be pretty annoying. Pets can be pretty annoying. He's both! It was both annoying and endearing. It did lengthen the duration of the livestream a lot though, I fell asleep after the letters, lol
