Welcome to the Shard! Have you taken the official Knights Radiant quiz? Which Order did you get?
-
-
It sort of did. Kaladin thought Bridge 4 might not be okay with gay relationships so pointed out how some of the men in Bridge 4 (Sigzil) could read/write iirc, which is against traditional Vorin masculine arts (err... Orthodox Vorinism would be the better word now, after Dalinar's book was distributed, I suppose)... Either that or an inverse of the situation regarding Dalinar writing a book. So Kaladin does probably perceive gay relationships as a bit feminine, or at least is inclined to think of them in that manner due to social conditioning. It's common enough irl (of course, nothing wrong with being feminine if you wanna) and he didn't seem homophobic, he only tried to prevent ostracization for any man in Bridge 4 trying to learn to read/write or date another man, so that's fine.

Yeah, it's a bit difficult to swallow as we've been following Kaladin's journey, which has been very arduous and with well-earned rewards, it feels like you have to prove yourself and be a good person to get access to the magic... but that isn't completely accurate. Other sentient beings decide to form magical contract with you, that gives you powers... isn't completely accurate either, but it's certainly an important component of what makes a Knight Radiant, and that is the reason why we have so many Radiants now. It's more realistic in a way, I suppose. Even magic gets political, and war is always on the horizon. They need more Radiants and so that's exactly what they're trying to do: get more Radiants.

Well, this: But pure Investiture does exist, it's possible to transform other Investiture into it: so what happened with Navani and the Voidlight in vacuum tube is similar to the process mentioned above but not the same thing. She did not change the Voidlight into any other form of Investiture, she isolated it from Odium's Rhythms. Here's Raboniel's theory on Lights and Rhythms: and here's Navani's thoughts on the same: So Navani likely isolated a Shard's Investiture from it.

Welcome to the Shard! Well, we know the answer to whether or not Hoid is human... How about a deal? You say the phrase "my life to yours, my breath become yours" and I'll give you the answer, eh?

Welcome to the Shard, @Kyn! Glad to have another theorist join is! Look forward to seeing you around on the forums!

I have a theory. Please prove me wrong.
Honorless replied to Random Bystander's topic in Stormlight Archive
Sure A few WoBs, they're kinda long but they answer Brandon's long-term plans for the Cosmere so...: The Stormlight Archives is upfront about it's Cosmere connections but the kind of clash you're thinking of, with various Shards who're on other worlds, is not gonna happen for a while yet. It's a launching point for all that though. We got to learn about a few other Shards but it's probably safe to say that it is not yet time for them to come to the forefront to that degree yet. As for the connection between Moash and Mercy, consider this WoB: Human beings tend towards behaviours that reflect their inherent complexity, we're not just all about Honor or Odium or Ambition or Autonomy, we're complicated. So just because a human being shows an understanding of or feels a connection to a concept that is close to the Intent of a Shard, it is not necessarily symptomatic of any significant Connection between that Shard and that person. -
No one has ever compiled them, as far as I know, but they should have a Coppermind page. I'll list the stories: 1) Wandersail 2) Fleet 3) The Girl Who Looked Up 4) there's another one in Rhythm of War as per WoB

Yup, because Aons draw power from the Dor, anti-Dor would've destroyed the Aon. One Aon should not turn one form of Investiture into its Anti-Investiture much less it's own default source of Investiture. Though I'm sure some horrendously complicated coding of Aons could make such a feat possible. Maybe.

There's actually quite a few well written lesbian protag in fantasy and sci fi fiction. (For reccs, look at the list I shared a few pages ago). Which is why I was a bit surprised at the relative lack of leading gay male protags, or even well-written gay characters. They're always supporting cast of characters. They're either there for shipping proposes, written by female authors and aimed at female readers, extremely fetishized, or, and I hate to concur with detractors of more gay rep but, nothing but a cardboard cutout written for the sole purpose of making a political statement by the author. It's rare that they're well-written, 3-dimensional beyond the romance and don't drop dead for/after fanservice. I don't like inter-LGBT politics but people keep saying gay men hog all the attention in LGBT representation, which is something I really disagree with because gay men get the least amount of positive representation. Most of the gay representation where I come from, if it can even be called that, is extremely mocking, casual homophobia and insulting gay people to show how masculine a man is, just really crude jokes, that kind of stuff. And the rest of the bunch is, to borrow Japanese terms, yaoi aimed at fujoshi, and are not at all representative of the experiences of an actual gay man. Hell, gay men often face the most direct violence, especially in Asian and African countries, where gay men are often the LGBT demographic targeted exclusively by violent people. Wherever there exists legislature against sexual or gender minorities, it's usually gay men who are hunted down. Yes, the other groups face ostracization and violence, but they rarely have to face stuff that can only be termed as organized hunts. Ugh, anyway, some good stuff now. I got a few nice reccs, I was going to share them a while ago over here but I got distracted: https://longexposurecomic.com/post/150300213458 (a few of you seemed to like Homestuck, I think you'll like this too. It's pretty sweet but also handles a few mature themes but mostly tries to remain upbeat and fluffy) https://archiveofourown.org/works/1062757?view_full_work=true (Welcome to Night Vale/His Dark Materials crossover. Absolutely recommend. This was hilarious and terrifying. Maturity level is about the same as Pullman's series, and handles some of the same themes. https://uncannymagazine.com/article/sun-moon-dust/ (Hugo award finalist, for good reason) https://archiveofourown.org/works/1599293 (Basically, Captain America watches Captain America films but not the Marvel ones, the in-universe ones, which exist because well, he's a national hero. Filled with period posters and theses (which is apparently the plural of thesis) on the subject of the American hero and his perception (including shipping him with Bucky)) also this: https://archiveofourown.org/works/2185989 (it's in the same vein as above but it's a single paper by Bucky Barnes.) P.S. Ao3, a fanfiction site, won a Hugo Award! That is so significant! https://ckret2.tumblr.com/post/185945394672/rodorah-rodanghidorah-and-ghidorah-centric-fic (I know this sounds weird, but it's Kaiju shipping, yeah. Don't let that put you off though! And I know you're curious! Go on, give it a try, it might surprise you)

Psychic Damage To Shard Vessels? [Discuss]
Honorless replied to Child of Hodor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I interpreted that to simply mean Rayse, like the Fused, was mentally stretched, and I don't mean that in any mystical way, I'm just referring to psychological strain. His self-control started to slip from thousands of years of frustration, that plus his own personality and inability to fully comprehend / acknowledge his Shard's Intent caused his downfall. I do agree that this mental strain manifested itself as weakening him as a Vessel of Odium though, after all it's the mind that drives the power. Nothing psychic, just psychological, which due to how magic is tied to the mundane in the Cosmere looked like some magical effect. But there could be more to it.
