  1. Not quite. Here's what he said about the barkeep who told him the story: and here's what he said about his Lightweaving master, the OG Hoid (we don't know our Hoid's real name, just his pseudonyms: Topaz, Dust, Imperial Fool, Wit, Lunu'anaki, Hoid, Midius, Cephandrius Maxtori: the last two seem to be his oldest known names): "[He] stole it from someone [he] should've loved" (I don't remember the full quote, but it also referred to "a stone (Topaz "The First Gem") that became worthless for him holding it"), that probably refers to his Lightweaving master, whom we see in the unpublished Liar of Partinel, under whom he was learning Lightweaving on Yolen. Our Hoid went by the name Midius there. (In the published works, "Midius" is the name by which the Heralds know him, while the Shardholders / Vessels call him Cephandrius.)
  2. Brandon is himself religious, so I doubt that he wouldn't be aware of sensitive issues when it comes to touching upon religion.
  3. We do have another chart, which is probably the Voidbinding chart so there are probably Voidbinding Orders, which would be cool to see. I think Taravangian would be more inclined to use them than Rayse. Maybe Voidbinding is how the Ashynites accessed the Surges. Hey, maybe Ishar created the Oathpact / bound the Surges using Voidbinding and that's why Odium didn't give the Fused access to the Surge of Adhesion.
  4. The Fused don't mimic Radiant powers, their powers don't correspond to Radiant Orders, they don't have Adhesion, they only have one Surge and their expression of that Surge is not the same as their Radiant counterpart's. Surgebinding belongs to the Rosharan system as much as it belongs to the resident Shards. Stormspren do seem like a counterpart to Windspren. We do see both Stormspren and Corrupted Windspren, they do look similar, iirc but the Stormspren needed to be pulled into the Physical by the Stormform Listeners which caused the Everstorm to appear. Stormspren might've been a relatively recent creation by Odium which did not exist during prior Desolations. Did Windspren exist on Braize? I don't know about Stormspren but most of the Voidspren probably are Corrupted spren or spren who chose to side with Odium and so received some of his Investiture, changing their inherent nature. Odium is not the type to willingly Splinter off bits of his power.
  5. Welcome to the Shard! Look forward to seeing you around on the forums!
  6. Welcome to the Shard, @Invested! Have you read any non-Cosmere works of Brandon?
  7. Welcome to the Shard! Uh.. you might want to change your username so people don't think you're a bot!
  8. I remember I thought (back then) that cube was his spren hiding
  9. Happy Birthday!

  10. In case anyone's wondering, yes Twinborn are confirmed to have Resonances: Yes, that means Wayne does too, you sceptics Yes, that means Wax does too, we've seen it in the books. It's his reactive shielding from metal projectiles.
  11. Oh there's a lot. The planet was (and is still) mostly empty, with only the regions near the poles inhabited. The north pole being where the Final Empire was located. At the edge of the Final Empire, near the Burnlands, people were far enough from the influence of the Lord Ruler and his Steel Ministry for better technology (which they desperately needed to survive). Aside from petty kingdoms, skaa refugees and rebels, these areas were also full of Koloss and Mistwraiths. Occasionally the Ministry dispatched soldiers near the border to break up successful congregations of escapees.
  12. Well of Ascension was pretty good, but it did meander... also Zane, so I totally get your choice Welcome to the Shard, @LoraSanchez! I got Truthwatcher too, by an overwhelming amount, but I got Willshaper pretty high up too
  13. Don't say it like that
  14. Oathbringer flashbacks. He spared no time for Renarin, almost actively avoided him, Evi calls him out on it.
  15. Hmm... Gavilar probably wasn't a religious zealot, he just used the Sons of Honor's zealotry to manipulate them. It's possible that the organization started out that way though. He only saw his children in terms of how they reflected on him, so yeah, he's the worst. Uh... what? Elhokar was willing to execute Kaladin for besmirching a Lighteyes by accusing them of crime. He was embarrassed by his and Roshone's imprisonment of Moash's grandparents and basically waited for them to die in there. So nope on that front. The better Elhokar we see is from the influence of the rest of the family. I doubt Gavilar paid much attention to his children, given their distant PR-approved impression of him. Dalinar basically wasn't even a father to his children when they were young and was almost always away on war. He showed blatant favouritism towards Adolin because of Renarin's sickness. He was influenced by an Unmade and wasn't mentally sound, so that's something. He does care but he's very overbearing. Lin Davar and the rest of the Davar family was also influenced by an Unmade: There's still a lot to uncover from Shallan's past. But yeah, Lin was very physically abusive towards his sons, that one alone elevates him on the rankings of bad dad. Kind of tried to make Shallan feel whenever he beat his new wife, sons or staff, it was her fault. Though he apparently tried to take the blame for Shallan killing her mother, so he might've been a good person once, deep inside. Lirin is... good god, he's the Asian parent meme extreme. "You doctor now", and oh hey, Kaladin was actually pre-pubescent when he became a surgeon, congrats Lirin! Joking aside, he might as well have been singing "mother knows best", I mean "father knows best" to Rapunzel, I mean Kaladin throughout RoW without as much as pretending to consider Kaladin's side or mental state. He was very obtuse and obstinate. So 1st place goes to Gavilar 2nd place goes to Lin Davar Lirin and Dalinar are tied for 3rd place
  16. Welcome to the Shard! Yeah, Way of Kings and Emperor's Soul are awesome, Rhythm of War Cosmere connections were so unexpected! Anyway, hope you like it here, see you around!
  17. Welcome to the Shard!
  18. Yup. A lot of people got confused with that interlude, wondering what the Hog was and who Sheler was. It was one of the more mysterious interludes as well as one that connected to multiple plot-points and worldbuilding, like Baxil and Mem's interludes. Anyhoo, that was indeed the awesome debut of the Mink.
  19. I love the Kane Chronicles too! Absolutely love Sadie and Carter, she's hilarious, completely bonkers and insanely entertaining, Carter is just adorable. I loved the Heroes of Olympus too (my fav has to be House of Hades, with Mark of Athena really close behind). And of course I grew up with Percy Jackson. As for Magnus Chase it felt... cramped. Barely any space to settle in Valhalla, it went to some very predictable places with Ragnarok, not a lot of character development, Magnus felt like a blank slate... Oops, we'll stop talking about Rick Riordan books, got carried away, sorry and carry on!
  20. Oops, sorry, I missed your comment. Hmm... I liked book 2. Hearthstone was a well-developed character. Rest of the cast... not so much. Samirah and Alex Fierro were not as well-developed, imo, it felt like he was very afraid while writing those characters so they came out kind of cookie-cutter. Magnus' dormmates were... utterly forgettable and actually read like pop culture caricatures. Don't talk to me about Trials of Apollo. I'm still mad about
  21. Religion. Honor is a god to them, popular uprising would stop any king from attempting such.
