It's possible that the Vessels of Preservation did but they were just focused elsewhere at the time. It was quite an emergency. There's also the thing that Leras was kind of already dead... what was there, was a Cognitive Shadow, because Leras sacrificed his Cognitive aspect to imprison Ruin, which is what the Well of Ascension was. Kelsier was also a Cognitive Shadow when he Ascended. Honor's Cognitive Shadow apparently merged with the Stormfather to give him sapience. So I don't think anyone will inherit Tanavast's memories either if they put Honor back together and Ascend. All this is assuming we're right and it's the previous Vessel's memories that are inherited rather than the memories of the Shard itself, like Taravangian only talked about Odium's deals with various entities. Also Harmony said he had to delve to find the name Adonalsium, so he probably didn't inherit all the memories of Leras.

True but how would they know? That is the problem, isn't it. Even if Lightweavers infiltrate Elantris, the Elantrians aren't just gonna be discussing it with anyone else Hmm... I don't think Radiants have access to the level of power required to be able to do that. The Shattered Plains on Roshar were supposedly the work of the Heralds with their Honorblades. Actually... how would spren... I mean on Sel, on the Cognitive Realm, there's the Dor raging across it, which is an Investiture plasma storm. Spren are always partially in the Cognitive Realm (well... unless Tezim has something to say about it at any rate), wouldn't they... vaporize? Melt? What would even happen to them if they're brought there? Would they be fine? Seons and Skaze are fine, they're partially in the Cognitive Realm too (look up Seon+Shardblade on the Arcanum) but then again, they were created during the Splintering of Devotion and Dominion, and the creation of the Dor. And they're made from that same Investiture, Rosharan spren are not. So Rosharan spren would get Corrupted and horrifically mutate maybe?

The even-more tragic tragedy of Vasher and Shashara
Honorless replied to Necessary Eagle's topic in Warbreaker
I remember something like that too, Brandon confirming that Nightblood is getting stronger but there's a lot of Nightblood WoBs... I think even if the resulting Type 4 wasn't on the level of Nightblood, it's a very dangerous knowledge. Shardblades are dangerous and unlike on Roshar, there is no overarching need for them, nor are there restrictions like the Oaths; and the sheer amount of exploitation such knowledge could kick-start... can you imagine how many people would be divested of their Breath for the greater good/for the nation?- 13 replies

@Leuthie, sorry to bother you again but is there a confirmation for what you just said here from Brandon? I do agree that the Oaths progression seems like a consciously imposed restriction & selection process, I once created a topic arguing that, and RoW info on Bondsmiths seem to be, imo, supporting the idea that Bondsmiths created the Orders of the Knights Radiant out of Surgebinders, but is there any evidence of what/how much exactly Ishar did?

@Frustration, how do you think a Roshar vs Nalthis scenario would go? Radiants have the advantage over Awakeners, I think. Again, over a protracted war, Rosharan Invested Arts allow for better troop replacement (wow, I feel scummy for saying that), Breaths are in limited supplies and I don't think Awakeners can kill spren (well, unless the Five Scholars or some other Awakening scholar manages to create a Type 4 entity). Heck, they're gonna have a hard time killing Radiants. Lifeless shock troops could be useful unless they meet an Elsecaller or Lightweaver who'll find it very easy to Soulcast them. Same goes for Kalad's Phantoms. Returned have a lot of Investiture but they're one-trick ponies and Nalthians don't know the limits of what they can do with Divine Breath. Nightblood could, of course, single-handedly skew the outcome of the war depending on which side he's on: Nalthis or Roshar but man, using Nightblood is gonna be far costlier for the Nalthians.

theory Lights, Intents and physics
Honorless replied to KandraAllomancer's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I was thinking their Rhythms would be close to each other's Anti-Rhythms, actual Anti-Rhythms... I don't know. I like how the idea slots into things but I think Brandon intended Investiture and Anti-Investiture to parallel matter and anti-matter. He did say that in the Cosmere instead of just matter and energy, they also have Investiture. Seven colours are not strict delineations or fundamental constituents of light. I mean, they do correspond to frequencies but it's not like there are seven fundamental colours. Our retinas don't measure the wavelengths of light hitting them. We have three kinds of photoreceptors and it's because of them that we see seven colours of the rainbow. Besides, the rainbow is continuous, it's not exactly that violet is the edge and after that lie colours not meant for mortal eyes (thanks, Lovecraft). There are many shades of colour there, which ones are you defining as the primary shades? Classification of colours is based on human perception. Green is a mix of yellow and blue, violet is a mix of red and blue (indigo is just a deeper blue than cyan blue).- 47 replies

Is Fortune and Future Sight the same thing?
Honorless replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I interpreted said destined events as powerful movers and shakers nudging things along, and certain things becoming more and more likely, nigh inevitable, with certain choices. So I would say the Cosmere is not deterministic. It just has powerful beings with access to pseudo-probability manipulation -
Shallan's soul caster how did Jasnah not see
Honorless replied to daypast17's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think there was a WoB about this that went in the same vein as Harmony and victims of Hemalurgy conducted by the Set, which is to say, it was a detail that Brandon missed, but I can't find it. -
Welcome, welcome, people of all ages are welcome here! Except little children!

Can you link the WoBs/relevant passages from the books?

This seems to have been contradicted by a fair few WoBs like:

'Sup, how u doin'? Hope you enjoy it here & look forward to seeing you around on the forums

Hey, we haven't seen much of Voidspren yet. Their spren are more selfish, so if it's a costlier effect there, I'll be happy with it. But I definitely want there to be Oaths. And not ones that are Prime Total Utter Inarguable Evil™ material but just flawed perhaps or geared towards anger.

Question from the most recent podcast (Full Cosmere spoilers)
Honorless replied to a topic in Cosmere Discussion
I wonder of that might have something to do with him being the former Vessel of Preservation. Taravangian could access some memories from Rayse, maybe Kelsier could do the same from Leras? -
More Polls: Prologues, Epilogues, Whelan Covers
Honorless replied to Elegy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Prologue: I remember how confusing it was to read Szeth's attack the first time, it was cool though. Jasnah's prologue was also interesting. So it's between Navani and Eshonai... I'm choosing Eshonai. Seeing the reasons behind the assassination was very illuminating. Epilogue: Taln's return, Jasnah's return, Wit Bonding a Cryptic, Wit facing the new Odium. Taln's return was foreboding but expected. I was not among the ones who successfully deduced that Jasnah was still alive, so WoR epilogue was a happy surprise to me. Hoid becoming a Radiant was very unexpected, I didn't really expect him to get involved in the conflict to that degree. Hoid's memories getting tampered with... damn... I really expected Hoid to remain untouchable till like, Mistborn era 4. Brandon's cheek in that one! Hoid talking about storytelling, "get your readers to brace for the expected hit, then hit them where they aren't prepared" advice. Then that happens! I'm still wondering if that was a grander misdirection by Hoid... but immortals aren't infallible is such a big part of this book! Grrr! Okay, I'm going with RoW on this one. The Way of Kings cover is very beautiful imo. WoR looks a bit silly imo. OB and RoW are also great though. Hoid's stories: Fleet Kept Running, the Girl Who Looked Up, Queen Tsa and Mishim, Derethil and Wandersail, the Dog and the Dragon... Fleet and the Dog and the Dragon hit me the hardest. The Girl Who Looked Up and Wandersail has really thought-provoking messages behind them. I... can't pick -
I don't think what Nan Balat was doing was a life drain. Seemed more like a magically enhanced psychological compulsion. I both like the idea of Voidbinding being esoteric, costly magic and don't like the idea... I rather look forward to the idea of inverse-Radiant Orders, y'know?

Tamu Keks, here's all we know of them: ~from Dragonsteel, courtesy of some punny username from over on Discord who went to look for it transcript from -30:35 from the 17S interview I don't know if they are specifically Sho Del bones, there are other forms of Fain life, not that we know much of them. I think we can comfortably eliminate Skullmoss... or maybe Skullmoss is a fungus and turns its host's bones into Tamu Keks... nah, unlikely, Skullmoss heralds the arrival of Fain life, infecting Trune life, Tamu Keks give the impression of being less common. Btw, nice pun there, OP, "Sel phone", lol
