I was taught BIDMAS, which is the same thing, with I standing for indices, which means the same thing as order or exponents: raised to the power of and root of. We also called it BODMAS, but I think that's older or something?

Welcome, welcome

Huh, this is the first time I'm seeing the word "ignostic" used by a theist. Jasnah actually responds to what you said here in the book itself. There are many threads about it too, you might be interested in checking them out and get responses, as this thread is "what's your religion" not "rate my religion", I imagine the OP wouldn't like it too much if the responses spiralled into a religious debate.

Welcome to the Shard! Oo, Stormlight can be a bit intense and has way more focus characters, give it time, I think you might like the later books much more. Don't go into the Stormlight or Cosmere discussion areas, you'll definitely get spoiled if you do! You might also want to check out Reading Excuses https://www.17thshard.com/forum/forum/38-reading-excuses/

Hey! Need a clever title... aaahm... No mating! >:-[

Welcome to the Shard! I'll be looking forward to it too! -
Waterbender without a doubt! I'd definitely learn to use Bloodbending too! The Chi healing thing as well! I... can't recommend Mass Effect. It's enjoyable enough. A lot of people really got into it and stuff, but it wasn't for me. I haven't really played any big game for a while now, so I don't have any recommendations, I'm afraid. Oh well, what other fantasy authors do you enjoy?
-
And Mass Effect is better than both of them! Hey, what Bender do you think you'd be, if you lived in the Avatar world? Have you watched the Legend of Korra?

In this case, they mean word of the law, so no naughty words in general. There's a swear word filter in place anyway, so don't worry about it too much. Idiot and stuff is fine, obviously don't go around calling people idiots though. Political discussion is fine if it's relevant, as long as it isn't... flammable, I suppose but you are allowed to have opinions. From what I've seen, there's plenty of wiggle room unless something really big news happens. Discussions of direct political allegiances are pretty much always removed but political views are only subject to the policies mentioned on the thread. You can check out some contentious discussion's if you're curious, they're not difficult to find. You can share details about yourself if you're comfortable with it, just keep in mind you're not just talking to us: it's a publically viewable forum, that means people not on the forum can also see what you're saying. Keep in mind we're all strangers on the internet. Some people want to interact only as fellow fans of a series, others are very much for people-to-people interaction, and use this place kind of like a social media platform, you do you. Spoiler policies are in the stickies on the spoiler boards, just go to the RoW and Dawnshard spoiler area, check the pinned topics. Stuff from other books and shows is up to your discretion and the thread you're posting in, just see how the discussion is going, and if unsure, just ask.

That's because the R4 characters rock! (pun not initially intended).

Guess That Cosmere Character! Forum Edition!
Honorless replied to Kidpen's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
That Tai-Na with the Reshi that Rysn went to meet? Relu-Na iirc -
I mean, solid Investiture would still have been a thing before the Shattering, right? And combined Godmetals are possible. So yeah, I think Adonalsium did have a godmetal. I think it was Dragonsteel.

You're talking about universal vs subjective morality, which wasn't my point at all. My point is they're both ideas and sadly, platonic ideas don't actually exist. There isn't a perfect system of honor, justice, law, morality anything waiting to be found. We're just making things better (or worse) as we go along. So every framework is a construct. Some might be better, some worse. My point is simply that Honor, any societal construct of Honor, can be used for the purposes of War, whether their underlying intentions be noble or ignoble. Basically, that there is a correlation between the two. Like, wars are started because the honor/integrity of a nation is besmirched, they've been invaded, or the other nation has done something bad. Wars are fuelled by the idea of said war being noble in some way, worth fighting for. I'm not supporting the idea, just pointing out that it happens.

Navani and Shallan both seemed to recognize and correlate Honor with Almighty. Honor himself confirmed that he was the being the Vorins worshiped as the Almighty in Dalinar's Visions. In RoW, Navani ponders that Roshar has 3 gods, but they only worship one after discovering the Tones. That's the exact idea, imo! Any system of Honor is a societal construct: Bushidou or Maryada-Sanskar, all have their problems. I think the Knights Radiant represent this quite well. That's why Honor and War correlate, as they always have, across all the ages on Earth.

Hello mate, glad to have a fellow... brother-in-books? (Idk, someone, make it catchy!) Welcome to the Shard!

Book 5 was originally planned to be the Bondsmith book, and book 3 the Skybreaker book, so I could see it happening in Book 5.

Crackpot, unrealistic, yet slightly possible theory
Honorless replied to Chinkoln's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well, she used the word "surgeon" in the sense of exorcising society's ingrained evils, not healing.- 2 replies

Would you have made the deal?
Honorless replied to Truthwatcher Artifabrian's topic in Stormlight Archive
The deal... it really makes me think Dalinar would lose, you know? Especially with Taravangian as the new Odium. It just seems very likely narratively. Who knows? Maybe Dalinar and Taravangian would continue their discussion and Dalinar would make Taravangian consider more moderate courses of action. As for whether or not I would take the deal... tbh, depends on my mood. If I was in a particularly bad mood, I might just agree. But if I'm in a good mood, with my life on the line, I'd have thought that a Shard being the one initiating the negotiations and from such a bad position, meant that there was something better that could've been gained. Whether that's true or not is debatable, but my mind, in that situation, would definitely veer towards that assumption. -
Alethkar was once Alethela, and they saw themselves as "the watchers at the rim", "those who maintained the arts of war, so others may have peace". They prepared for the Desolations and were the Kingdom most affiliated with the Knights Radiant of Urithiru, many of whom settled there too. Remember that the fact that humans were the invaders was not known to Rosharans till OB. Indeed the knowledge might've helped with pushing the ancient Radiants to abandon their Oaths at the Day of Recreance, after losing their justification for warring with the "Voidbringers". Honor himself helped guide the people if/when they found out the truth, at least before he went mad. This is why Honor + Odium = War made sense to me. Good work compiling all this, OP!

Yup. Remember that Preservation predicted that the new Shard combo would be Discord: And there's something Brandon said about that too:

That... does make a lot of sense. It might also be why Honor and Cultivation, and possibly Odium as well, were attracted to the system *points at three moons, each the color of one of the Shards*... though that might've been perception influencing stuff, like the double-eye of the Almighty

I think Adolin Bonding with Maya is inevitable at this point. The Nightwatcher might remain free, just because there can be three Bondsmiths doesn't mean there needs to be three Bondsmiths during this time. That being said, I want a Nightwatcher Bondsmith and think that it's very likely that we'll actually get a Nightwatcher Bondsmith. Who that will be, I cannot yet foresee. I think most people thought Taravangian was gonna Bond her, which isn't possible anymore. Others thought Rlain, but that isn't possible anymore either. Yet others thought Navani might become the Nightwatcher Bondsmith, well, she became a Bondsmith alright. I don't think we'll see a double spren Bondsmith, or probably even a double-Bond Radiant, definitely not a double-Bond Radiant where one of the Bonded spren is one of the three Bondsmith spren. So, I'm not counting anyone who's already a Radiant or solidly on the way as a candidate. Maybe a new character, or a secondary character will rise to the occasion, like Yanagawn or the Mink.

Welcome to the Shard! Be very careful while you're here, so you don't get spoiled!
