  1. @Aspiring Writer, I think and hope neither you nor Danex meant to say what you ended up sounding like you're saying Finding an LGBT character in every series is nice for LGBT people, so that came off a bit insensitive. As for being gay, that is totally a big part of our lives that we have to deal with, a big part of our identity, and how people see us. So I don't have a problem if that's a large part of Renarin's character because that is also a large part of my own character. The same is also goes for mental illnesses and disabilities. Renarin is dealing with twice the chull dung, that's all. And so is Rlain.
  2. I was thinking about the sheer no. of diversity he tried to cram in and how said characters were basically irreproachable and a meta mouthpiece for the author, though the opinions presented were positive, that's still not great representation.
  3. Found a typo: Investiture It was a pretty solid guess but yeah, I suspect unless the Investiture is immediately used or stored/keyed to a person or converted into the local form of Investiture or transformed into "pure Investiture", it might just disperse or disappear into the Spiritual. For just transporting though, I think it will work.
  4. Hmm, would the Investiture want to leave via their Spiritual Connection to Roshar the moment they are converted back from being anti-Investiture? Is the Intent of anti-Investiture flipped or functionally the same? Because Preservation and Ruin's Investiture actively repelled and harmed one another, I suspect their Rhythms are close to but not quite each other's anti-Rhythm. Is anti-Stormlight still kind of Honor's or anti-Honor's or...? Matter and anti-matter are basically the same particles with the opposite charge. They annihilate each other upon contact but are (minus the Weak Force) treated the same by the rules of physics. Is anti-Stormlight negatively charged Stormlight or something that is truly antithetical to Stormlight? By isolating the Lights from the Rhythms! Does that make it pure Investiture? Does that remove it's Connections? That might work. We know that liquid Investiture can be carried from Perpendicularities using aluminium containers:
  5. For the Cosmere, I suggest complete the original Mistborn trilogy, then read either Warbreaker or start Stormlight. I felt a big disconnect when I tried to jump straight to the Wax and Wayne books (that start with Alloy of Law). Don't forget to read Mistborn: Secret History! I read it after Hero of Ages but you can also read it after Bands of Mourning. You should get Arcanum Unbounded, it has all the Cosmere short stories and novellas published so far (minus Dawnshard), which includes: Emperor's Soul, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, Sixth of the Dusk, Mistborn: Secret History, and other collected short stories. As for non-Cosmere, specifically Skyward... have you read Defending Elysium? It's a short story / novella set in the same universe as Skyward. It's available for free on Brandon's website. My recommendation also goes to Perfect State and Dreamer, both are standalones and shorts but very, very good.
  6. We hope you have a great time here too! As for White Sand, you can get White Sand (prose) by subscribing to Brandon's newsletter. The email with the newsletter should have a link to download the file with the prose version of White Sand (the comics are a fair bit more difficult to get your hands on, sorry. And they are apparently currently out of stock/print)
  7. Welcome to the Shard, fellow Truthwatcher! Congrats on getting a question answered by Brandon on the livestream!
  8. @Ookla the Disproportionate, yeah, gives me flashbacks to the Magnus Chase books. But hey, this lack of room for their own character to shine through when they're so bogged down with various identities might be the very thing that Brandon wants to explore with their character. P.S. I'll note that I did like Moash from an in-world perspective too, at least till Oathbringer.
  9. Plamry did not know anything about what was going on and who Nikli really was. When they were both bound and left on the island, he watched as Nikli melted into cremlings. So yeah, he has some emotional trauma
  10. Okay, so the livestream confirmed that the shopowner themselves aren't significant but what happened to get the objects there was. Weird Connection stuff.
  11. Good catches, @Hoid the Drifter! For anyone who's curious, here is where they were mentioned:
  12. I have read his works. Legend was written well enough but among the Triumvirate, or even the greater Protectorate, he wasn't a character who was focused on much. Circus was barely there. I'm tentatively happier with Capricorn though Wildbow avoided a lot of the bigger (and more politically controversial) possibilities with their story and again not a character who was focused on much after the initial reveal, also very complicated to get into. Jamie and Sylvester... far too complicated to unpack here. Avery is probably the best written LGBT character by him.
  13. That's good to know, thank you for sharing and thank you for explaining, @LuckyJim
  14. Welcome to the Shard! Another difficult choice: who are your favourite characters?
  15. Hello and welcome to the Shard!
  16. Welcome to the Shard, @SylShard! Yeah, a lot of us, including me, are on Discord. How did you discover Sanderson?
  17. Welcome to Wonderland, I mean the Shard, POTUS
  18. Pick either Mistborn era 2 or Stormlight, it's your own choice! But be warned, spoilers abound. So I'd suggest wrapping up Mistborn era 2 and Mistborn: Secret History as those books are far shorter than Stormlight and have big spoilers we still like to talk about a lot.
  19. Why do you all insist on initializing his name? Anyway, welcome to the Shard, @Doughnut, stay safe from Katakuri, lol
  20. There's also these guys
  21. Somebody is going to have to explain that to me, I know it's a song but I've never heard it
  22. The spear is something Kaladin struggles with (well, not literally, he totally slays with a spear, but I meant metaphorically), picking up a spear again was such an important part of Kaladin's journey in this book. As for the tower and crown... That's the crest of House Kholin...
  23. The metals are usually named after the original Vessels of their Shards but the properties of the metal shouldn't really automatically shift after the Shard switched hands, with time that might change, till then one could still call it Raysium. The Godmetal that has already formed will not be affected at all, so those are still Raysium. Looking at it this way, Raysium will always be Raysium, if Taravangian changes the effects of Odium's godmetal, it would not be Raysium but something else, something new.
