Book Reading Order, Help Me!
Honorless replied to blackout8444's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I started with Mistborn as well. After completing Era 1, I read Secret History. After this I read Elantris then Warbreaker, then Emperor's Soul. After this I jumped straight into Way of Kings. I read the other Cosmere short stories post-Oathbringer. This reading order meant: I didn't dislike Elantris as much some others do, I did dislike Warbreaker at first though (before I got to... a certain point). Secret History was much more impactful after Book 3. A closure. -
Well said..... *starts crying* @Config2, but I was so convinced that she would get free! *crying intensifies*

All the Orders' colours, including the Dustbringers' and Lightweavers', have already been stated in the books, (ruby and garnet, respectively) There is a WoB on why Shallan's eyes aren't red (Kaladin and Lift both have their Order's eyes now, sapphire blue and diamond-like clear grey respectively as stated in Oathbringer) He said it's because she's already a lighteyes. @Harrycrapper, the Parshendi have red eyes when they take on the Forms of Power because they have to house Voidspren in their Gemhearts to do so. It is suspected that all Voidspren might be spren that Odium corrupted completely so that he didn't have to Invest himself to create entirely new ones and potentially get weaker. The Fused, on the other hand, literally steal and co-opt others' bodies. It is suspected that the Unmade might similarly be examples of beings corrupted by Odium, hence Sja-Anat saying that "they were made, then unmade". (sorry I missed that part last time!)

Gaotona? Szeth? That's quite different than the norm, such fresh responses! Mine are the usual, I'm afraid: Kaladin, Shai, Vin & Elend. What shardworld would you choose to live in if you were given the choice? Also, what's your favourite Cosmere magic system?
-
That's because most of the time Ruin wasn't co-opting Preservation's power. The art of Hemalurgy is, by it's very nature, theft. Remember also that the planet Scadrial itself is infused with both Preservation and Ruin, since they created it. Interference by itself doesn't result in the reddishness. The Investiture in question would need to belong to a different Shard but being used by another Shard for it to happen. The Dor isn't a Shard, it's two Shards mixed and stuffed into the Cognitive Realm. There's no co-opting going on, since Aona and Skai are both dead. When an Elantrian (or a Forger or a Bloodsealer or a Dakhor monk or a ChayShan user or a potion maker from Hrovell) access the Dor, they're accessing this mix, not Dominion using part of Devotion or vice-versa, rather whatever fraction of each their system of Investiture requires If this redness is inexplicable somewhere, it's within Surgebinding. Both Dustbringers and Lightweavers are supposed to develop reddish coloured eyes (unless they're already lighteyed)

@Oltux72, to expand, it could be an extremely rare bone pattern granting access to Fortune, since Dakhor seems to be the Investiture system of Fjorden. To me, the appearance of the Skaze suggested that they might be more Invested than the Seons. It could be the result of a bond with them. Alternatively, the Wyrn could be using the Investiture system of one of the other kingdoms under the Fjordell Empire, much like Forton's Potion. He is either originally not from Fjorden or Hoid left the Moon Sceptre in an inadvisable place after he was done studying it and now the Wyrn is using it to access this other form of Investiture. These are all the possibilities that come to mind right now for how he accessed Fortune.

You should consider playing the Nightwatcher Boon/Curse game
-
Huh, never mind, my bad, I misread Hmm... something which manifests in the Physical Realm with a changeable form... I feel that in the Cognitive Realm they might just turn out to be something that reflects images of what they had last seen from some surface. Perhaps they're just a giant floating mirror or an eyeball

Creationspren do exist. They are often attracted to the creation of art. Shallan sees them several times. They take the form of whatever object they had recently seen and have a silvery glow.
-
I think it might have to do with the fact that all those other spren were lesser spren, incapable of the Nahel Bond. The Radiant spren, being more oriented towards Honor and Cultivation, would show more clear indications of Investiture corruption. The rest of the spren have probably remained the same since Adonalsium put them there. Since Odium is nothing but a part of Adonalsium, those spren are technically not corrupted at all. They are changed, twisted by Odium's influence though, and that is reflected in their twisted forms. But they aren't red, that is because it has enhanced their connection to a part of what made them, which is what Odium is.

The one aspect of the Emperor's Soul that I love the most is the unanswered question of 'what is self?', the title's connection to 'The Emperor's New Clothes' is just wonderful! Plus, the fact that most of the story takes place in a single room just added something to the story. Yeah, I really like Emperor's Soul too Who's your favourite character?

Mission successfully failed

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Honorless replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted, as boon (you read that right, since what you asked for is definitely curse material) you can take a break between games to come back out into the real world and have free food. -
It's so fresh that someone chose WoR over WoK or Oathbringer! What made that book special to you? I know the conundrum of whether to state the Emperor's Soul as fav or not. It's one of my favourites too, alongside WoK

Nah, Littlefinger just implied that someone from House Tyrell was responsible In the books the poison was in a bead of necklace that Sansa wore, Olenna palmed it and rubbed it into the rim of the goblet. Though, in the books Margaery did seem to be in on the Purple Wedding plan Oof, fitting end for Taravangian

Those covers look really cool, @Doombrigade! Welcome to the Shard! What's your favourite Cosmere book?

Tindwyl's death was... it was very foreboding when Sazed was going to her gate, also Club's death in front of Breeze Vivenna's destitution shook me hard too
-
1 Kaladin 2 Shai 3 Vin & Elend (tie) 4 Leras & Kelsier (tie) 5 Dalinar 6 Sazed 6 Adolin & Renarin (as of OB) 7 Dusk and Vathi, also Marasi (triple tie!) 8 Breeze & Ham, plus Shallan (triple tie again) 9 Rysn & Ishikk & Axies (I know, just Interlude characters) Alendi too (I would love a Classical Era Scadrial novel or novella) 10 Lift (post-Edgedancer, also the tight-butt comment/observation)
-
Alendi's journal, Leras' sacrifice, Ati's fate, Reen's entire life and fate, Kelsier and Mare's past in Hathsin, that random skaa who is killed at the party, the old skaa man, Yeden's and his army's demise, the story behind Spook's name (Lestibournes), Kelsier's death, Dox's death Elend's death followed immediately by Vin's death took me hard Lightsong's death Kaladin's volunteering, Tien's death, WoK prologue guy's fate, the Bridgeruns, Kaladin's entire past and him remembering Tien... The Heralds' fate shook me the hardest, especially Taln's response even after all that

Now! Back to Taravangian (for real this time!) What did you think of his overall character arc? What parts did you see coming? WoK I was convinced he was harmless Then the Szeth thing was revealed and the Diagram, as well as that very interesting boon/curse Then all his controversial actions in Oathbringer: disseminating the truth about the Recreance, allowing Odium's forces access to Urithiru, resulting in a three-fold attack on it's forces and the theft of an honourblade, then the actual deal with Odium What do you think lies in store for him? And his future story arc role and possible conclusion?
-
But that painrial scene! I am convinced!

why is aluminum resistant to investiture?
Honorless replied to Kalaksbreath's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oh Fortune is plenty complicated too. Is it an actual melding of all space-time where all possibilities lie or an expansion of the mind resulting in mathematically precise calculation of probability. Brandon says it's the former but for specific functions or reactions he uses the latter to explain what happened -
Let's just forget Margaery and go back to Taravangian
-
I know! Except I want her to be Batman

why is aluminum resistant to investiture?
Honorless replied to Kalaksbreath's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That just leaves me with burning questions about Connection. Isn't that the Spiritual component used to connect with a different land to speak their native language? Shouldn't that be a Cognitive component?
