  1. I have to say I didn't think of Chromium Compounding! Good catch! As a fellow college student, I completely understand. You'll love Emperor's Soul, you can save it for later. Ah yes, "what is the most important step a man can take?" "It's the next one, always the next one" My fav WORDS!!! Bondsmiths, huh. Personally I like the Lightweavers (though the Radiant quiz insists I am a Skybreaker) because of their system of Ideals. They're like the Hufflepuffs. I think we should all strive to speak a few of their Ideals, regardless of which Order we might belong to.
  2. I just did a similar post on the real-world etymology of another name, that of the city of Stormseat, called Narak by the Listeners. I think this one, on Kaladin's name, belongs in another thread because they're different names. I don't know how things are organized on this forum... Kaladin's name, in fact most Vorin names sound like a fantasy counterpart of Hindi words. I think, this is primarily because of how these words are spelled in a manner that they seem equi-stressed, that is, they are constructed to be pronounced so that all the syllables are stressed equally. I think Alethi pronunciation would be officially different, simply because Brandon is American. Altough, I think I've read a WoB in which he basically suggests that readers pronounce names how they wish. Anyway, Kaladin's name came from Paladin but it too has a thematically appropriate interpretation, Kala + Din, which means Black Day. His theme of combating depression, the Bridgeruns, the oaths, his history, his string of misfortunes... I hope it doesn't become meme-y. I really like Kaladin as a character. tl; dr: Kaladin's name can be interpreted to mean 'Black Day'
  3. Probably in a different manner than how the Stormfather does, though. I mean, for Windrunners, the Surge of Adhesion is the Surge of Pressure & Vacuum, because his powers come from Honorspren & Windspren, who are said to be cousins to the former; while for Bondsmiths Adhesion is the manipulation of the Spiritual aspects of Connection and Identity. If each of the Orders manifest their Surges in a slightly different manner, also noting that the Bondsmiths bond with unique spren, then that should mean that how the Nightwatcher or the Sibling's Radiants' powers manifest might be subtly different from that of the Stormfather's Radiant.
  4. Huh, that's cool. Where from? Didn't think his books were all that popular here.
  5. Wait a minute... is this thread why your username is @The Last Post?
  6. ... and done! My first Coppermind edit!
  7. Just a note on the origin of the word 'Narak'. In-world, in Roshar, it means Exile. 'Narak' is, however, also a real-world word. It is a Hindi word, referring to Hell or Underworld. It seems thematically appropriate too, for the setting. This information probably belongs in the introduction or trivia section.
  8. It's a bit like the word 'xerox' becoming a synonym for photocopying. Shadesmar does refer to Roshar's part of the Cognitive Realm that eventually became a popular term to apply to the entire Cognitive Realm. Roshar's Cognitive Realm does also seem to eventually be very pertinent to the story. Secret History is set in Scadrial's Cognitive Realm, Sel's Cognitive Realm has the Dor. It's better that Coppermind have separate articles on them.
  9. Just don't forget to cover your safehand! You could join the Ardentia or the Stormwardens. Or maybe somewhere away from the Vorin Kingdoms, Thaylenah? Azir? Liafor? Reshi? If I were to be a Misting/Metalborn,I'd probably choose Nicroburst or Oracle in Era 2, in Era 1 just the opposite of yours, Seeker! Oathbringer has united everyone into the Dalinar fandom! My fav Cosmere character would have to be Shai or Kelsier though.
  10. Welcome to the Shard, @Hakusho Slick! Oathbringer & Final Empire, huh? (Final Empire was my first Sanderson read ever) Which world would you choose to live in, if you were given the choice: Scadrial or Roshar? Do you have a favourite character?
  11. I love all of them! Agh! But to live on one of them... Scadrial (second era) or Taldain (Darkside), maybe Sel too (Elantris, other parts of the world we haven't seen yet) For the magic, I have to agree. I love the method (the Ideals) of the Knights Radiant and the versatility of the Surges. The Three Metallic Arts are also very creative. I am very conflicted about the Stormlight characters
  12. Could FotS itself be Obrodai? We've seen examples of different cultures calling the same continent & planet by different names on Sel... The problem is that Sixth of the Dusk is set in Mistborn era 4. Hoid is said to eventually have access to a personal mini-perpendicularity. Other systems of Investiture like the Surge of Transportation might exist on 2nd or 3rd. It's mostly the water comment and that two human societies have not been featured in any stories that has me thinking about Obrodai's whereabouts
  13. Hoid appeared out of the Horneater "Oceans", which is why Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor's people have a name for him (Lunu'anaki) and regard him as a god "who cannot hurt others", Rock also mentions that his people sometimes visit the place of the gods while swimming in the pool. He also says that other races die in the pool (though Sigzil says that's because the Unkalaki shoot them). The pools are why the Unkalaki can live in the peaks despite the altitude and the cold (and possibly why some of them can see spren) It has been mentioned as being in the peaks, blocked by the Fused, in Oathbringer. Vivenna as Azure outright says that Cultivation's Perpendicularity is on the peaks and she intends to go that way. The 17th Shard was looking for Hoid at the Purelake because, as he mentions in the letter, he tricked them by spreading rumours.
  14. For some reason, in Elantris, Which of the Cosmere worlds would you choose to live in? Which system of Investiture would be your choice? Also, have you taken the Knights Radiant quiz? What Order did you get? Sorry about swamping you with questions but... Cosmere!
  15. Cultivation's Perpendicularity has been all but confirmed to be the pools on top of the Horneater Peaks. The Purelake, it would seem, will remain another mystery for a while at least. I don't think Autonomy will let go of the opportunity of getting multiple planets in a single system. It doesn't make sense to only have interests in FotS and leave the other inhabited planets, not when they're so close & untouched by other Shards. Huh, you're right "these waters" does seem to refer to a different place. But that makes the numbers match all the better. Obrodai, plus this place and FotS makes three planets = the number of the planets inhabited by humans in the Drominad System
  16. Welcome to the Shard, @MichaelMarssen! Reading Sanderson does tend to spoil you from reading other fantasy for a while, doesn't it? If you have any suggestions regarding any book that's similar to Sanderson, please post it on the forums, otherwise I think we all might genuinely die in between Sanderson's releases (he's still amazingly fast with his releases though, we're just that spoiled) So, what have been the best moments within the Cosmere for you? Mine are , dear god... never mind, it's impossible to list them all
  17. One of the Oathbringer epigraph letters mention a place named Obrodai, where the sender, who is confirmed to be Patji, the Avatar of Autonomy on the First of the Sun, claims that another Avatar of their being is manifesting. Obrodai also appears to be referred to as "these waters" and as a "testing grounds" within the letter. We know from Arcanum Unbounded that the Drominad System has four planets in the habitable zone, all of which have water as a dominant feature on their surface and three of which are confirmed to have humans living on it. This is compared to the Rosharan System by Khriss. The fourth planet in the system, on the other hand, does not have any fully developed human societies. So, it might have a human outpost, or non-sapient fauna or something else. I started to have suspicions. Then I found this WoB: So, thoughts? It seems highly likely that Obrodai might turn out to be one of the other planets in the same system as First of the Sun. Second and Third of the Sun are good candidates but the Fourth of the Sun doesn't seem to be out of the running yet either.
  18. I know what you mean, Well, @fadiay08, happy reading! Do post your feelings after finishing the trilogy, if you don't mind. First reactions are always fun.
  19. Clicked the link, and damnation! Good Job!
  20. You remembered his full name. I thought I was the only one... *sniffles* Have an upvote!
  21. Welcome to the Shard, @stormlightspren! What Cosmere books have you read? I should also point out that one of the premier benefits of joining is getting your hands on White Sand (prose) & Aether of Night (unpublished manuscript) so go for it!
  22. Thank you, @hoiditthroughthegrapevine, I aim to inspire Don't skip over my own wish!
  23. Welcome to the Shard, @The Heretic What is your favorite Cosmere-verse theory (your own or made by someone else) that you really liked and/or agreed with?
  24. Thank you @Truthless of Shinovar! But are you sure? If you scroll back you'll see that I have also cursed people horribly, including stuffing AonEne into alt. dimensions twice! (and those were the nice curses)
