Things Hoid is not allowed to do in the Cosmere
StanLemon replied to jamesbondsmith's topic in Cosmere Discussion
44. Hoid is not allowed to imply that he is aware of the fourth wall -
Just a heads up, this should be in the Rhythms of War forums
-
Brandon has described that in the Cosmere Matter, Energy, and Investiture all all really just the same thing but in different forms
-
Keep in mind that most of the victories humans have had against Shards happen through a combination of previous Shard bindings and the manipulations of other Shards. Dalinar was able to resist Odium because of Cultivation's manipulations. Odium was forced to rely on his followers because of Honor's prison. Ruin was stopped because of a plan that Preservation put into place thousands of years ago. It seems to me that the Cosmere is merely in a cold war between Shardic machinations. It's not merely mortals beating gods, but gods using mortals to outmaneuver other gods

I've always imagined them like bb gun ammo, small pea sized beads. That would make them consistent with being able to be swallowed and with how shaved metal that fits in a small vial can last a significant amount of time depending on the metal. The lead bead that Zane uses Vin describes as being a huge amount that she reckons would last for a solid minute or more so it was probably a good deal larger than a standard Atium bead which have rarely lasted more than a handful of seconds.

Here's a random thought, what if he found out that the Everstorm would allow the Fused to bypass the Oathpact and he intentionally "broke" in one of his lucid moments in an attempt to warn Roshar about what was coming?
-
Good catch
-
I could see it being its own Shard, however I think it's more a combination of multiple Shard traits such as Odium, Mercy, and Honor.
-
Perhaps there is a Dawnshard on Nalthis (looking at you Cognitive Anomaly) and maybe it influenced the form that BioChroma took
-
That does seem like a method that could do it. Though it might take a while for the Mistraith to become sentiant but enough Breaths should be a good enough push theoretically. I don't think Endowment would have any influence over it though. The reason Ruin/Harmony can influence is the nature of the Spiritual damage having Spikes in you does and the Shard using those those holes to manipulate them. I don't think the same can be done with Breaths.

If Kelsier was Radiant, which order would he be?
StanLemon replied to Yvainnie's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think Lightweavers would make the most sense for him -
Hey all, not so much a hypothesis as observation but it is interesting the relationship with the Mental metals and Rhythms. Copper and Bronze in particular have been mentioned a couple of times. Copperclouds stop Allomantic pulses but according to Brandon they can also stop Rhythms and Bronze can allow an Allomancer to hear Rhythms. This all but states that the pulses of Kinetic Investiture are Rhythms. Brandon even likes the line of thinking of Copper giving "counter Rhythms". https://wob.coppermind.net/events/117/#e1600 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/134/#e2031 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/406/#e14501 This plus references in Stormlight make it clear that there are multiple categories of Rhythms. Emotions, Planets, Kinetic Investiture, etc. Additionally Zinc and Brass can affect how a Singer can attune to Rhythms https://wob.coppermind.net/events/175/#e8424 Interestingly though Connection Feruchemy can allow one to interpret the Rhythms of someone speaking to them. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/56/#e753 Even more interesting is that enough Connection can do to a Koloss or Kandra what powerful Soothing/Rioting does https://wob.coppermind.net/events/356/#e10524 And lastly, Copperclouds have some not fully specified effect on Spren. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/387/#e12639 And we also learn in Rhythms of War the importance Rhythms and Connection have for Spren. This is where my hypothesizing comes in. I think that all Mental metals utilize Rhythms in some fashion. When Vin first burns Copper she describes it as feeling like a vibration within her body. My guess is that as Pulling metal it creates a discordance of Rhythms within the person and that surrounding Rhythms get messed up similar to how a pebble dropped into a pond will create a disruption in a specific spot but won't affect waves further out. This is how I've rationalized it being an Internal metal yet having an external affect. I kind of wonder if Copperclouds would affect Spren like The Siblings defenses though that might be tinfoil hat thinking. Bronze on the other hand Pushes the Allomancer to be able to sense Rhythms, particularly those involved with Kinetic Investiture in contrast to Singer's focus on emotional Rhythms. RoW seems to imply from Navani's perspective that even a human can hear them, it's just much more difficult. Then we get into Zinc and Brass. This somewhat contradicts the WoB above about how Rhythms don't determine your mood but I think that is inaccurate, or at least not the full story as we have seen how the Rhythms of Odium seem to affect how Singers (particularly Venli) feel and it seems difficult for her feel differently than the Rhythm she's attuned to. An interesting part of that WoB though is that Rhythms are a direct connection to the Spiritual Realm. This has me thinking that what Soothing/Rioting affects the amplitude so to speak of peoples' emotional Rhythms by making a special Connection between you and who you are Soothing/Rioting. By making certain emotional Rhythms 'louder' or 'quieter' so to speak they change the emotional strength in the person. Never removing or creating emotions, just the intensity of it. I know this might be way off but it feels that this seems plausible at least. What are your thoughts?

all spoilers Theory about the final cosmere
StanLemon replied to MIKIL's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Just a quick note, Brandon has said that Era 2 is as weak as the dilution of Metalborn powers will get. -
Maybe that's what the plants on Elantris are
-
It's less of a gamble than Preservation's. Just because she can't know for certain what a person thinks or feels, she could make educated guesses based off her ability to see the future and observations on human behavior.
-
@Valigus this is an issue I had as well. There seems to be a bit of power creep going on beyond the more oaths better powers thing. When I read that scene I thought it was ridiculous because it took Shallan a fair amount of Stormlight to heal from the arrow to the head but Kaladin healed multiple spinal separations and still had Stormlight to fight. This is why I think it would be good for Brandon to have Radiants hit the limit of their powers in the next boom because at this rate it is getting hard to believe they had trouble during the desolations
-
I would be interested if there is still room. If not no problem
-
I have a personal hypothesis that you could use F-Duralumin to increase a Twinborn's Connection to Preservation to boost their Allomantic power because the power of an Allomancer is dependent on how Connected they are to Preservation
-
Spook might be alive though, Marasi makes a statement that he ruled for a hundred years before stepping down. So it's possible he found a method to extend his life
-
I understand the feeling, honestly I probably associate with Preservation the most too
-
We've had a few threads like this before but with Rhythms of War bringing us a whopping four more Shards and more context given for Odium. Which Shard would you want? In the past Autonomy or Endowment were the ones I liked most based on the little we knew about their Intents, but now even though we don't know what it's Intent truly covers I am very interested in Invention
-
Agreed, Hoid is probably concerned about Kel being even worse than Rayse
-
The issue is that while Odium does represent all passion, fury is described as the prevailing one. Rayse was talking about a war between the Shards as if it was an inevitability though and not just him being an instigator. It makes me wonder if Cultivation herself is also preparing and that she wants to channel that fury from the Shard and the intellect of Taravangian towards any possible future enemies.
-
I've had the same question. I like to think he was as it seems appropriate.

Was anyone ready for the King T bombshell? ROW SPOILERS
StanLemon replied to Elsecaller_17.5's topic in Stormlight Archive
I have never seen any reference of Brandon describing him like this. Looking in the Arcanum there are no WoB Regardless of if he is a true narcissist or not, he does display narcissistic behavior. His belief that only HE can save the world is evident enough of that and that combined with his amorality and intellect make him horrifying as Odium
