It is odd that he's still stuck. It's probably something to do with how he became a Sliver after death and that he's held together with Preservation's Investiture rather than just being a Cognitive Shadow. Returned are special though as Brandon has said there is something unique to the way Divine Breaths and Endowments Investiture work.

Something is Wrong with Odium's Forces
StanLemon replied to Theoryspren's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it's true that he doesn't want to Invest, and therefore weaken himself. But I think over the millenia he's had to give one little concession after concession and after so much time it's added up to him being Invested in the planet- 22 replies

The most important words a man can say

You're probably right. Of all the worlds Scadrial is the most likely to become galactic conquerors. Their magic is far and away the least bounded of all the systems we've seen and they have organizations like the Set who would push conquest and Ghostbloods who would are already meddling in other world's affairs.
-
Intent has to have a subconscious aspect to it. Otherwise certain aspects we've seen would be impossible like tapping a metalmind while asleep. Even if an Allomancer can burn metals instinctively they generally have to choose to burn them. Allomancers can feel the well of power in them and focusing on that probably is enough to start burning. When Kelsier first gives her a metal vial to test if she's Mistborn, her inner thoughts were that she had to seize the power. I think for subconscious aspects like this it's because the Investiture is treated as closer to a part of your very being rather than a power you control. Like, generally you have to intentionally choose to raise your arms but it's possible for it to happen subconsciously too like when you raise your arms to stop something flying at you before you can think. I personally think that this idea is supported by very high Hightenings giving instinctual Commands as so much power is now tied to the person's being that it's a part of them

I actually liked this, I felt it humanized him. That just because he's ancient he's got basic human needs and desires. Though I do fully understand the reasons others don't like it

Too many arcs. I love all of them but the book was too busy

I personally think a part of the problem is Iyatil. While not a native Scardrian, she comes from Hunter descent and was certainly the person who cultivated his hunter mentality. We don't know much about her culture and what they consider acceptable. She might see nothing wrong with his brutality while Kelsier might and as she's the middleman between them it likely leads to Mraize being able to be the evil man he is. She herself from what we've seen is fairly reasonable and while somewhat annoyed, willingly went with Veil's nonlethal plan to see Taln. Let's also take account of the only other Ghostblood that we have seen in a real capacity. Kabsal. He was a member who actually was nice and kind to Shallan and while he used and manipulated her he never wanted her to get hurt in the process.

The bombs are estimated as being able to destroy a city as large as Elendel. There is no way that the Dustbringers bring that kind of firepower, at least not in the numbers currently available. Edit: after a quick look at WoK, the description of what the Dustbringers did is nowhere near massive destruction. More like they set the ground on fire. Kalak describes smoke coming from patches of growth and burning corpses with the occasional smoldering rock. That doesn't compare to a city destroying bomb at all
-
We know mining is done on Roshar given Shallan's family business. Though they mind stone but given that Roshar is at least aware of precious minerals I'm sure there is mining in that department as well. Sure Soulcasting exists but that was considered the expensive option and wasn't the standard that was used. The biggest issue though with Roshar and metal deposits is that Highstorms and Crem over time change the geography itself but we don't know to what extent
-
The problem with Soulcasting a Fullborn is that it would have to be done before the Fullborn starts burning/tapping metals. Otherwise they would be too Invested to Soulcast. Even then, there is a WoB that the more an Allomancer burns metal the stronger there Innate resistance gets

Physical metals steal Physical powers, Mental metals steal Mental Powers, but with this change no Enhancement metals steal Enhancement traits and now Temporal metals steal both Enhancement and Temporal traits. That's the pattern I was talking about. I understand that, but my issue is now no Enhancement metals steal Enhancement or Spiritual metal powers
-
This is diffinately a retcon. My hardback copy also says it steals Enhancement Powers. However this might be justified because the Ars Arcanum charts are in universe and the original version could have just been Khriss guessing. Personally I'm not happy with the change because it breaks the pattern the rest of Hemalurgy followed.

Completely hypothetical, but I wonder if Chromium could be used to harness Stormlight. We get an in character perspective of what it's like to use Allomantic Chromium in one of the the broadsheets and it's described as taking the power and releasing it to some place else (ie the Spiritual Realm). I wonder if instead of releasing it, a Leecher or Mistborn could channel it into themselves

So the magnetic north pole doesn't always line up with the actual northern pole of the planet and Brandon's statement is that they lived at the magnetic north pole. I'd have to go digging but I recall there also being a WoB that the magnetic north pole got shifted when Rashek messed with the location of the Well of Ascension

Spren don't manifest as Shards in the Cognitive. And all Rosharan troops would have to deal with higher gravity that they wouldn't be familiar with. Plus the entirety of Rosharan magical advantage off world is dependent on one single individual who would probably be harder than any other Radiant to get offworld in the first place as the Stormfather would almost certainly be harder to leave than common spren. And even if you add Ishar, well Kelsier has the resources and knowledge to deal with Heralds as evidence in RoW Maybe, but Scadrial can bring weapons that will make Rosharan military tactics obsolete, WW1 being a prime example

I agree they are powerful but to there are almost certainly limits that we are not aware of. For starters, it's entirely possible that the biggest things that have been hinted at require the use of a Dawnshard. We know they had access to at least one when Ashyn was destroyed. Also the sDNA is litterally a part of the soul. Not just a Bond to it like the Nahel Bond is.
-
@valgerth there is a big difference between stealing Bonds and stealing powers that are hard-coded into sDNA. Hemalurgy requires litterally ripping off the Spiritweb to take powers. But for the sake of argument let's say it's possible. From what we saw of Ishar he still had to get in close which would be suicide. The Fullborn can move faster than the Bondsmith could even think and kill them, use Chromium to drain what Stormlight is left, and the fight is over
-
@ValigusThe fact that you think two Radiants, even Szeth and Kaladin, at 5th Ideal could compare in any way to a Fullborn either means that you greatly underestimate Fullborn or overestimate Radiants. Ishar who I'm sure we haven't seen his full capabilities showed in a couple of paragraphs that he could cream those two and even that wasn't nearly enough to compete with what we've seen the Bands could provide.

While not confirmed, there are implications that Feruchemy can be mechanically done similar to Allomancy. If that's the case, make the turbines super light and Pushes/Pulls can get them spinning very quickly. Even if that isn't the case, it's not particularly hard to think of ways to get clean energy without it being horribly expensive or human rights violations.
