Candidates For the Six Remaining Shards (A Simple Theory)
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to a topic in Cosmere Discussion
Here is an idea ? The shards are all pieces of Adonalsium. So what if 16 pieces are all opposites . Ruin Preservation. , Odium. Is kind of like Hate . So thier must be a Love based Shard . There Autonomy so I’m sure that Servitude . Devotion and Dominion could be opposites . Prudence so perhaps Bravery . Honor so a Shard based on Distrust . Cultivation. Is hard because Rot is to much like Ruin. My theory Is based that everyone has good and bad in them like Adonalsium did. So aspects are good and some are not . I also can’t think of an opposite of Endowment . A Shard that takes away something ? Drain or something like that -
During TWoK Wit and Dalinar are Having a conversation . During wich Wit casually drops the name Adonalsium . Dalinar has no idea what Wit was talking about . We as readers do . But why does Wit wonder if Dalinar does ??? This conversation is very important and I have two separate theories as to why it took place . One this conversation gave me Hoids plan to put Adonalsium. Back together and I wanted to see if everyone saw it how I did . Secondly why did he say it to Dalinar ? I think Hoid/Wit perceived with his Hoidsense that Dalinar would soon ascend to be in possession of a Shard . He wanted to see if Dalinar knew anything about it . How shards are splineterec and such. I think he wanted to see when he got ready to put his plan into action he wondered if Dalinar would help him. Dalinar was clueless so Wit prattled on and played simpleton. And moved on . I managed to copy and paste the conversation . I do not post from a computer . I post on my phone so it’s very hard for me to get the clip exactly right . But everything I have clipped you will need to read anyways if you want to form a theory . So does anyone agree with me ? Does Wit want to put them back together? “Winds are changing,” Wit whispered. Dalinar glanced at him. Wit’s eyes narrowed, and he scanned the night sky. “It’s been happening for months now. A whirlwind. Shifting and churning, blowing us round and around. Like a world spinning, but we can’t see it because we’re too much a part of it.” “World spinning. What foolishness is this?” “The foolishness of men who care, Dalinar,” Wit said. “And the brilliance of those who do not. The second depend on the first—but also exploit the first—while the first misunderstand the second, hoping that the second are more like the first. And all of their games steal our time. Second by second.” “Wit,” Dalinar said with a sigh. “I haven’t the mind for this tonight. I’m sorry if I’m missing your intent, but I have no idea what you mean.” “I know,” Wit said, then looked directly at him. “Adonalsium.” Dalinar frowned more deeply. “What?” Wit searched his face. “Have you ever heard the term, Dalinar?” “Ado … what?” “Nothing,” Wit said. He seemed preoccupied, unlike his usual self. “Nonsense. Balderdash. Figgldygrak. Isn’t it odd that gibberish words are often the sounds of other words, cut up and dismembered, then stitched[…]” Excerpt From The Way of Kings Brandon Sanderson https://books.apple.com/us/book/the-way-of-kings/id376229549 This material may be protected by copyright.

theory Cultivation's magic and Adolin
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to KandraAllomancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
I predict we are going to see more people doing what Lift does . Consuming food to generate stormlight . Brandon keeps saying Lift is a very important character . And assured that she is one we see in the back half of the 5 books. We probably won’t see Cultivation’s system until then . Everybody that does what Lift can do will be a part of Cultivation’s system . Just my guess . I don’t quote WoB like you guys do for personal reasons . I totally agree with you one part though . Anytime Cultivation interceded . The Boon Curse is not usually a boon curse . When she intercedes the person usually gets better deal . I Still think Cultivation created Lift . And admit it’s just a guess. Cause as person Lift doesn’t make sense. I know everyone thinks I’m off . If I’m right just remember I said it first . -
theory Cultivation's magic and Adolin
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to KandraAllomancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Cultivation magic system has to do with how you gain Stormlight . Lift eating food and accessing Stormlight is assumed to be part of her boon/curse . I think we have all been duped . There is a WoB where Brandon briefly hints at it . He said Cultivation magic system has to do with what Lift does . Soooo it could either mean that everyone who uses her magic system has to eat food to power it . The only other thing that Lift does that’s unusual she was able to enter Dalinar dream area and leave at Will . What if her ability is to exist partially in the Cognitive which allows her to touch spren and kind of quasi transportation to the border of shadesmar like anyone who soulcast does . Finally I don’t think Lift has always been 13 . I think Lift was a woman at one time . I say that because how does an 10 reshuffle girl even know about the night watcher much less travel there. She must have been older and getting made a child was her cost . Or She is like Wonder Woman and Cultivation made her out of clay . Anyway enough of my crazy theories . Cool post . -
Actually i think he is doing something . Just his goals are bigger than stopping Odium . This is my opinion and not cannon so please don’t ask where I got this . I think Wit is trying to figure out a way to put Adonalsium back together .He told Jasnah he would watch her world destroyed if it meant he could reach his goals . But he does offer advice from time to time . Like when he told Azure about the aluminum . Another thing Hoid is ancient . He has seen so many people grow old and die he probably doesn’t think like mortals . When he offers advice it’s usuallu in the form of here is a clue figure it out and it may hello you in a way . He also is not a hero . But in the end I think Odium will get what’s coming to him if Hoid has anything to say about it.

Who are the Returned on Scadrial
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Actually I thought mistwraiths were Cognitive shadows . But I’m glad R’shara commented . I learned long not to ever doubt anything she says . It’s usually facts . Supported with WoB . I think she has them all memorized or something . Anyways I thought I saw a pattern . The thing about Sanderson’s magic system is they are very complicated but also well defined thru his WOB. I wish other writers did this. -
Who are the Returned on Scadrial
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Thanks for that knowledge . They resembled the returned so much I just assumed they were the same thing. And when I say returned I mean thier true forms . How Vasher looked when he revealed hisself to Susebron . -
As the Cosmere gets bigger we start to see similarities on different Pllanets in the Cosmere. Two of them have made shardblades. One thing that next popped out to me is that several planets have some form of cognitive shadow that is persistent . Roshar have Heralds and the Fused . Sel has Elantrians. Nalthis has The Returned . I’m not sure if the Shades on Threnody are Cognitive shadows but anyways . I’m seeing a pattern . I’m thinking the shards need some type of Cognitive shadow to serve as Agents on the planet . So I’m asking what are the Cognitive Shadows on Scadrial . At first I thought it was the mist wraiths . They would preservations Form of shadow . But knowing what a cognitive shadow is I know it can’t be the mistwraiths . They were never alive as a person and came back to life . Then I wondered if steel inquisitors were. Again same problem . They never died and came back .the only person that has died and came back was Kelsier. And one doesn’t equal enough to be a system . It’s just one irregularity .So can you guys speculate with m . Does it seem that every planet has a type of cognitive shadow ? And if so what is the cognitive shadow on Scadrial

Favourite Order, and the Order you think you would be
SzethIsBadAsHell replied to Ixthos's topic in Stormlight Archive
My favorite Order is the Windrunners . But I can’t see myself Flying I’m scared of heights , I like illusions and I definantly want to be able to heal so I would take Truthwatcher all day . -
While I agree that glowing red eyes is a sign of possession . What I was thinking was Trell spiked a mist wraith with his spike . Unlike Harmony one spike allows him remote viewing and the ability to speak thru the Kandra . When he does so thier eyes glow red . I doubt one would blow itself up unless being controlled or compelled to do so . But perhaps Kandra don’t think about self preservation . Anyways what is a Svrakiss and where can I read about them ?

What else could it be . The actual sentence read the Set had faceless immortals of their own . This implies that it was a Kandra . As Humans refer to Kandra as faceless immortals . Like Paalm all they would need is one Trellium spike . Harmony would not be able to see them or control them . So I ask if that was not a Kandra . Could you please elaborate on exactly what you think it was.

A Kandra could also be of the Set ! They have Kandra working for them as well . And those are presumably under Trell . We don’t know if Trell is Autonomy or not . I have considered Palona as well . I Thought she was a Herald . But I guess Kandra fits too .

@Calderis I would really like the ideals of the Willshapers. So I can get a better understanding of thier Order. Brandon always inserts a arcanum chart in the back of the book , listing fabrials and surges ; How great it could be if he inserted a chart listing all the ideals of all 10 Orders we have 1 order , the Skybreakers , that are close to being antagonist , I’m not sure if they will align with Odiums dawnsingers or the Dawnsingers that will hopefully turn against Odium. I’m not sure if the dustbringers will be on the Dawnsingers side or if Mullata is just a bad Apple . Anyways I don’t feel that way about Willshapers. I feel they will be a help , but I guess we all have to Read and find out .

Good argument , but I never said good was a requirement . My view on Eshonai is based on after she voted to kill Gavilar in a feeble attempt to stop the return of her God’s , she saw how the 6 year war had took its toll on her people . She sought and end to the fighting and arranged a meeting with Dalinar with those objectives in mind. We don’t know if Timbr was influencing this decision or not . But here is where Venli erred in my eyes . She was against the meeting or Eshonai viewpoint. She sought power as a means to crush the Humans. She hid the fact she was consulting with Ulim because she knew her people wouldn’t want help or trust a void spren . She knew that this could very well bring her Gods back and didn’t care. Or was at least wanted Power so much she was duped by Ulim . She wanted to show everyone she was the more useful sister , after all she discovered Storm form. When Eshonai told her of her meeting she tricked her into trying out the new Form first . Yes I know that Eshonai demanded to try the knew form , I think Venli knew that’s exactly what Eshonai would do . It’s what she has always done . Went off to explore and left her sister behind. She didn’t want peace with the Humans , she wanted to show the humans power and force them into leaving the listeners alone. Eshonai informing the 5 of Gavilars plan which Gavilar told her too do , and what Venli did is no where close to being the same on my morale scale . Yes Venli has seen the horror of 15,000 listeners die and the remaining 1000 being coerced into giving thier bodies up for Fused . She has seen her mistake. She has chosen the vows . Maybe being a Radiant is about atoning for all the bad rust you have done ., Kind of like Dalinar. If so then that’s the only way Venli deserves to be a Radiant more than Eshonai . Up until the point she took Storm form , Eshonai was the sister who did more for the Advancement of her people . I can identify and respect the things Eshonai did . I found them honorable . Can u honestly say the same of Venli before she adopted Timbr.

@Calderis and @Bigmikey357 perspective has merit . The Dawnsingers are in my opinion. One of the most intriguing races I have ran across in fantasy . I’m sure all our opinions will be revealed in book 4. I think it’s amazing to discuss our theories and make valid arguments . Whether Eshonai was dominated or not is just a matter of opinion . I respect how you guys see it. For the record . I Liked Eshonai a lot better than Venli . Eshonai deserved to be a Radiant more than Venli . Venli can and will mostly Likely redeem herself . But let’s not forget she was so hungry for power and forms she willingly colluded with Ulim. I do think spirit does play a part as Big Mikey said . I just word it differently . I say the dawnsinger must meet the ideals of the Radiant spren . The ideals are set by the character of of the dawnsinger . If you want to interchange spirit. For character that works for me too. Character can change for a singer or at least be more difficult if they are not in the right form . Venli shouldn’t be able resist , Timbr suppresses her voidspren and gives her clarity . Without Timbr she could still resist , but I think Odium could stoke her passion thru and Unmade like the thrill and should would be helpless in Envoyform . Cause the only Rhythms she could hear are Odiums. I haven’t read any of the readings Form stormlight 4 . Do any of them have any insight into this ?
-
I don’t understand how ? Timbr said most of his family by humans forsake their vows . So she wanted to bond a Singer . I don’t know what lightspren ideals are but some higher spren like ash ( dustbringer ) and pattern ( lightbringer) don’t have any problem with killing or deceit . Venli main focus is knowledge . She is appalled by the Fused and how they kill The host to inhabit a body . She wants the Singers to not be oppressed but she isn’t evil . She is no different than Navani in her morals . And I have no idea what kind of spren was in her gemheart . I know it wasn’t a hate spren like stormform. But even in Stormform she was not completely taken over as Eshonai was . Like you said she dominated the form while Eshonai let the form dominate her. Anyways , Timbre has completely subdued the spren inhabiting her gemheart and envoy form allows her to think clearly enough she can meet the requirements. Of Timbr ideals . Now if Timber was an Honorspren I doubt she could hold up to the protect virtue of that ideal . Anyways I just want someone besides me to acknowledge that forms and the way dawnsingers minds work in each form is very important to this process. A statement like what form she in doesn’t matter is obviously inaccurate !
-
Eshonai is a good example and I’m glad you made it . Eshonai was 3 different people , in nimble form she was curious and adventurous . In War Form she was a leader and aggressive and wanted to make peace with Dalinar. Then she adopted Storm form and was taken over by the form. She was willing to put her own mother with the group to be executed . Yes she allowed them to escape but everyone saw her philosophy switched . While Timbre was there , I think Timbre was hoping to convince Eshonai into a Form that she could think again . What end up happening was a Fused tried to take over her body , and she resisted and Timbre helped her resist . I doubt she would have been able to on her own. I don’t not think the bond would have went any further while Eshonai was in Storm , a form filled by a hate void spren which altered her thinking to far outside the ideals of a willshaper
-
I agree that I was wrong about what Rlain said , I interpreted it wrong . But I ask you to Consider this only Regals and Fused can use surgebinding under Odium system . The 5 basic forms do not allow them access to surges . We don’t know if BAM can bond with the 5 base forms or not we only know that dullform makes you immune to Bam and Odium influence. So I propose Forms have everything to do with how Singers access the surges due to thier anatomy . Under Odium system they can only use certain surges in certain forms. It may be so under honor system as well. . Not because of Honors system but because of singer anatomy . They are more subservient in warform . They are hard to focus in mateform. So how could a singer in mateform develops themindset of a windrunner to want to protect everything . How one in dullforn form the mentality of a edgedancer to listen . How can one in warform develope the ideology of a Bondsmith ! They need to be in a form that allow them free thinking to meet the ideals of honor’s Radiant spren . Thus in envoy form Venli is free of mind to choose to be Willshaper . So my friend I know @Calderis is usually right , but his judgement can be wrong . And I say Form has everything to do with a singer forming a Nahel bond with the appropriate ideology and the appropriate spren
-
Syl is a special case . She is his daughter and the last of a special Line of Spren . Stormfather did not want to risk her dying so he tried to forbid her bond . I don’t think he would do this unless it was Sylprenia. However because Singers side with Odium he might not approve of his spren going to Singers .
-
I don’t . He is bridge 4 , no doubt . But so is Renarin . You don’t have to be a windrunner to be bridge 4. Rlain is a listner . One of the ideals of Edgedancers is they Listen to those who are forgotten. Plus there are nobody to Heal parshendi . There anatomy’s is different than humans , so if more Singers are to come over to the Radiants side that is something they will need. So I’m hoping he will be an edgedancer . I heard others in this group hope he will be a Bondsmith . I’m cool with him being a windrunner , I just hope for something better .

Upon first reading Warbreaker , Did you at first assume Lightsong was a detective or constable in his precious life . The way he was curious about who broke into mercy star temple and investigated about what was going on with the lifeless commands. Yes I have finished the book . Yes I know what his occupation was , I was just wondering how many got that impression from the book .
-
Nightblood should be Chaotic nuetral . Even though he wants to destroy evil , he has no clue what evil is . So he destroys everything figuring he will get to evil that way . It’s exactly how chaotic nuetral functions
-
@Nnatel I think the clue is In the song as to the reason why , thank you for your input . I was trying to get help deciphering this thing . A lot of people have given opinions , few have even tried to look at the song a rationalize what the answer is . Which I feel is the way to figure out what Brandon reason was for writing it.
-
Very good point . A lot Powers in the Cosmere work like that : off perception . After making this post I have adjusted my theory . I used to think that Singers had to be in a certain form . Now I’m slowly growing to the conclusion they have to perceive that it’s possible and in the case of Rlain wanting to a windrunner , want to protect . It’s possible the windrunners are not for him , I think he would be better suited as an Edgedancers .
