  1. Still clearheaded enough to give up their precious power, of which could destroy the known world and lead to oppression and communism for all, to warriors of the lowest rank, presumably who had no idea what to do with a gold nugget, save a Shardblade, if they were to find one? They'd, of course, immediately sell it to the highest, most corrupt bidder. Or hack at anyone who comes near them to take it. Eventually they would never be distributed to the general populace, but hoarded with the richest/most powerful people. Who don't deserve the power of the Shards. As we can see in the Alethi war machine.
  2. Its quite an easy word to sink into mis-pronunciation. Come to think of it, so are most of Brandon's names for things. Kaladin. Sygzil. Only exception I can think of is Gaz. But thats just plain boring.
  3. This is all to sciencey for my liking, but in fact Gravity is no a palpable, mystical force unto itself. It is put into operation by the Higgs Boson particle, and so, in fact, cannot be described as any more coincidental in the grand scheme if things that life of Earth, or Roshar, or Scadrial and Sel.
  4. Yes, I see that now. After all, could she not choose to Endow a Curse? Could the Breath not been considered a curse anyway, as reanimation from the peaceful slumber of death doesn't seem... ideal.
  5. Peter, can you then confirm that Elokhar's Plate and Blade are/n't Gavilar's?
  6. Thanks for the catch. Well, that rounds that off. But as for Gavilar's Plate and Blade, I think it should be continued here. Or at least, if your curious, you should give Chicken's first post a scan.
  7. Of course, as could Preservation. But I think the point I was trying to make in that was that they each have a complementing pair which makes the entire process neutral, thus the possibility for Harmonies to be created.
  8. I believe you took it that when I said 'it was of no import other than your personal beliefs', you thought I meant your beliefs do not matter. Sorry. What I mean was that all that matters is your personal beliefs. Also, I'm sorry and I will not continue on this note as this is scientific/religious theory not Cosmere related discussion, but I cannot accept it when you say the Christianity is an accurate portrayal of the origin of the universe. It is academically accepted by scientists and indeed some Christians that the Big Bang was the undeniable origin of the universe. Although you could still argue that it was caused by God, for which I have no argument other than thats what you believe, and it is different to what I believe, and that at the end of the day, that's that.
  9. Thinking about it, Shallan can only see the truthspren when she engages in creativity, i.e. through her drawings. They may have originated as creationspren, such as Syl originating as a seeming windspren. However this is debunked by the fact that the symbolheads ask for 'truth' to activate. Do we have evidence of Syl asking for Kaladin to be, or only activating when Kaladin is being, Leading (Order 1 Secondary)? This would make the secondary attribute what activate the Nahel bond, but the primary what causes it to initially form.
  10. I'm not sure that just because Elokhar's Blade is named, that it is Gavilar's. It would make more sense that Elokhar named it himself, if it is a new Blade. I believe however that Dalinar's came with the Blade, because it was a Kholin heirloom.
  11. I think what he meant was that they might affect it, but it might not be direct as in to make life, or to alter life itself. Also, how would a Surge of Life be described? Does it 'distribute' Life?
  12. I'm basically saying that if religion can claim to be 'the truth', then where did its 'truth' come from? The Kelek to Ketek thing might just be a gradual misinterpretation leading to a whole new word, however, in other cases they operate under false assumptions. However it is, in the end, of no import other than your personal beliefs.
  13. I don't think it has been in anyway proven, or even RAFOed. However I'm pretty sure we refer to her as a 'she' because it has been theorized that she may be linked to the Nightwatcher (I think that's it?) who, in Roshar, is a feminine mystical figure.
  14. Your right, it doesn't quite fit the bill of 'videolog'. However, for all we know, this might be within the power of Honor to create this dynamic scenario. As it doesn't go on forever, Honor must have chosen a point for it to end, meaning that he either controlled the Highstorms that brought them on, or that he perceived of every possible ending to the Midnight Essence extract Dalinar experienced. Most likely the former, but I wouldn't put anything past a Shard.
  15. Here, to make this search of yours a little easy, I perused a number of recent threads and this one seemed to fit the gist of what I mentioned, however unsure if there is a better one. If this doesn't cut it, you might want to search a bit deeper than I.
  16. Its intriguing. However, as many threads have already speculated that Gavilar was the Parshendi Shardbearer that Dalinar meets (and who Dalinar is recognized by) because when Gavilar died, he became Parshendi (you might want to look that up if its confusing), then this seems the most likely place it went (with his body). However it is very much open for debate.
  17. Of course! Of course! Not to jinx it, but, derp. That was my own fault. Thankyou for pointing it out, however. Let's see. I'm sure it would be an exceptionally useful logistical tool for one of the KR to be purely 'behind-the-scenes'. I think someone else mentioned this during the Recreance discussion, that we only see two KR Orders at the Recreance. It is my belief this is because the other Orders, like the Soulcasters, and for me Order 10 and one other Order, were purely logistical. As for the Surge and Order of this 'Telekinesis' Surge, as I think (?) it's a ruby that a spanreed requires, I would then place it in Order 3 (as this is the order with a ruby as the Gem Focus). Anything else that I have stupidly missed would be greatly appreciated.
  18. I think this really hits something. In Navani's notes, she mentions that a spren must be bound in the particular cut and type of gem to produce an effect. Lets go through the effects we have seen in fabrials, and link them to an ability. In my mind, every effect produced by a fabrial is related to a Surge that a KR could perform. Firstly, the strengthening effect necessary to make Shardbows. This, for me, may be clearly linked to an ability of Stonewards. Obviously, the Soulcasters. Clear link to the Transformation Surge. (As a side note, can anyone reference whether it needs to be equipped with an Emerald/Garnet [the two gems of the theorized Soulcasting Orders] at all times to function? I'll discuss later). Thirdly, the Heliodor detection device in the Interlude in Shinovar. Makes me think (just because of the heliodor) this as a Surge of Ishi, and seems to lend to the 'Guiding' (discovering) Secondary Attribute. Purely speculated by gem type. Almost done with the fabrials that I can remember, would greatly appreciate any more examples anyone can think of, but I remember Navani demonstrating a heat fabrial (I think, I need to look at my copy again to be certain) to somebody, I think Dalinar and Adolin. To me, just because of the obvious link of heat -> fire, I would link this to Chach (Order 3) simply because of the Soulcasting Property of this Order (fire). Also, at this point, you might need to be referring to this table for the information I'm using. Lastly, a note about the side note I made to do with Soulcasters. I asked whether they needed a garnet/emerald at all times to function, and I will expand on this. So, a Soulcaster is a fabrial. A fabrial needs a cut and typed gem to function, with (seemingly) a spren trapped within. So, in order to imitate the Transformation Surge, I assume the type necessary would be either a garnet or an emerald (as it has been theorized that these are the two KR Soulcasting Orders). Obviously, they would also need to be touching other gems to facilitate the transformation, but I thought this might be important.
  19. I think it has already been confirmed somewhere else.
  20. Perhaps as Mistings and Ferrings became more common, it is more likely that anyone you joins the ranks of the Hazekillers is now Misting/Ferring? As new law enforcers against rogue Allomancers only.
  21. This question is still a quite active debate on the forums, and I am not in any way an expert, so I will direct you to this thread to see some of the suggested theories members of the 17th Shard have come up with to explain the day (I'm assuming you are referring to the Recreance, though I cannot see any other event that matches your description). I hope this helped, but if you ever have any questions you are unsure of, then reply to this and I'm sure I or any of the members here will be glad to help, or even if its something you feel you urgently need to know, pop me a message and I'll answer it as soon as the next time I am online is. Also, forgive me if I'm wrong, but as this is your first post, I'll assume you're reasonably new to the forums. If thats the case, welcome to the 17th Shard.
  22. I'm almost sure Cultivation still lives. Honor sounded sure of her ability to see into the future, implying that perhaps she foresaw this. I also agree with the Cultivation/Endowment pair, wherein that Cultivation can also facilitate destruction, if it means that those that remain will be stronger, however Endowment can only every be a good thing (barring the possibility that one does not like extra responsibility).
  23. It is foundation, unto and of itself, however where did that the reason that religion emanates come from to begin with? There must have been some leaps of reason to come to the eventual conclusion of Vorinism, because it isn't a logical path of thought, to create a religion in which one gives up ones pride to beg for the benevolence of a mystical figure. However this debate is highly subjective and I do not in any way wish to enforce any opinions I may have on others, and so, if you disagree with what I have said, voice you opinion, and I will attempt to reconcile, or just agree to disagree. Religious debates make for bad first impressions...
