Forgery, eh? Sounds cool. Write your name on something with the right intent, and it becomes yours, as if forged?

Does the Cosmere Universe open up for a sci-fi setting?

The 'naming' intent system you described (having to understand the Command thoroughly) sounds strangely reminiscent of the Naming system from the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. Knowing the word's 'true name' gives you a measure of control over it. -

This sounds to much like Inkheart for my liking. Reading aloud conjures what you say. It has to be read for writing though (strangely). Literomancy... to write it down, and then it comes true? It needs to have parameters... Maybe you need to think about it while writing, like a Command of the mind. Or, there could be special types of parchment. You write of Command on the slip of parchment, it is initiated, and then the parchment dissolves. The reeds needed to make specific parchments are both rare and altered in some way by the Shard literacy. © 'Windrunner' March 20th 2012 -
Lerasium wasn't the Shardpool. It was the Power of Creation through Preservation in Physical Form (Solid). Or, of course, PCPPF. The Shardpool here was the Well of Ascension, as it allowed you to take in the very power of the Shard (Preservation) itself. However the problem here was that Ruin was encapsulated in this energy, and so releasing it (while freeing Power to the rest of Scadrial) freed him fully from within. Lerasium is a metal with an effect much like every other metal. It just has seemingly pure access to Preservation in it, meaning that when burned, it transcribes the data necessary for full Allomancy into your Spiritweb.

I want a real hat. Sombrero... latest copy of Alloy of Law... sombrero.... latest copy of Elantris... These are tough decisions to be making, my friend. But as for a word hat, here you go: 'Hat'. -
Theory: Stormlight Vessels in Surgebinding
Odium's_Shard replied to Odium's_Shard's topic in Cosmere Discussion
About the gem to Essence produced relationship, you might have read in the original posts about 'bending of the light'. So when the Stormlight is rent from the gem, by the participating Cognitive transferal in Shadesmar, it is 'bent' at a particular colour spectrum, as you have yourself previously suggested in the Stormlight Archive Ars Arcanum 2.0 thread. The colour of Stormlight produce then gives the object limited options as to what it can (in accordance to its link with the spiritual; 'bent' Stormlight), does (in accordance to the Cognitive; your will for it to change into ~~~), transform into (in accordance with the Physical; produced Essence/combination). And so the object you meet in Shadesmar is given the Stormlight, which acts almost like light energy in photons (if you understand what I mean, great, if not, this about the transferal of heat in particles; they begin to vibrate (glow in this case) with the energy), meaning that it has certain energetic potential. The colour of light limits its options, and you purposefully (using your interim Cognitive aspect within the Cognitive Realm) guide the object in the path you desire. The Power then flows from the Spiritual, through you and the object in the Cognitive, and then into the Physical ramification. About your point about why Jasnah/Shallan don't have to become vessels even though Kaladin does. I think you pointed out that the Cognitive presence of the object in the Binding may affect the outcome, and I theorize that the Stormlight needs a certified (where the Soulcaster's sDNA comes into effect) mind to 'bend' the Light into the appropriate Bindings. And so you go to Shadesmar, talk to the Cognitive presence of the object you are Transforming, then give it the Stormlight in the gem. See above for why this links to Essence. But a Soulcaster is just certified for access to Shadesmar, and the ability to 'bribe' objects with Stormlight infused inside gems. However, after this point, the Cognitive will of the object now directs the proceedings, and so your Cognitive adaption was never needed to 'point' the Stormlight in the right direction. You tell the object what you want, 'bribe' it, and it completes the Binding itself. Whereas, Kaladin needs to control the Stormlight into the exact power type he requires, and then into the correct victim/object. As for the process of his Surgebindings themselves, I believe that for Gravity, the Stormlight (reside in the Spiritual), transfers to and wraps around the selected person/object, and then (as long as it is present) adapts its Spiritweb to alter its connection to the planet itself, thus changing his tug to a certain direction. The more Stormlight, the stronger the alteration. -
It seems to have useful connotations in practical, as opposed to bad-chull ninja-style, circumstances, such as with the mining of precious metals, or rupturing the foundations of enemy fortifications by replacing them with something like limestone. It just doesn't seem... cool. Has more scientific uses. But of course eventually science impacts everything, including war, so their might be uses I could think of.

Or their hats. -
As the Cognitive is the bridge between Spiritual and Physical, if there is no Spiritual Aspect, there in no need for a bridge, or it would at least be dysfunctional. Think about having two floating islands. They have a bridge between them. Imagine if one of the islands disappeared. Simply vanished. What would happen to the bridge? It would cease to have a functional existence. The only problem with this theory is that in Warbreaker, Drabs are still sentient. Sure, they have no life sense, but they are still sentient, even though they have no 'Breath'/Spiritual Aspect. One can only assume that they all have slight presences of Endowment in them, if only residual from their creation in the first place.

Ceramic grenades are especially effective. They would be used by the military if they weren't so fragile to transport or expensive to produce. They work well in frag grenades, because the ceramics not only form sharp splinters they cut and blow up nearby enemies (and friends, I guess) but some ceramics can cause conditions on the lungs when they hang around in dust form (some bits will blow into smithereens/dust). But as I say, expensive. At least to mass produce in comparison to metals.

We have pet theories. My personal favourite is that they reside in the Spiritual aspect, because other things that we know for definite that come from the Spiritual Realm also come with dew on them.
-
One would think that, by very definition of the word, the Cognitive Aspect would determine intellect, and intellect (or lack of it) is what forms comprehensible sentience. The Cognitive ties the two Realms or Physical and Spiritual together. Thus, even if the object possesses it (Cognitive), then without a Spiritual Aspect, the Cognitive has no purpose (as the bridge between Realms) and so isn't used. So I take your point that Power is necessary for sentience, just not in the way you stated. Your welcome.

What, with her throat cut? I'd be pleased too.

He had a wife who was pregnant when he died from consuming his deific Breath in the week he gave the Five Visions (damnation he's smooth). Wife, assuming no lesbian connotations, implies one is male. Also, the only way to get a women pregnant is...

As Commander Spoonface pointed out, we should be discriminating towards all un-named aspects of the Universal Cosmos. -
He didn't intend to keep Vivenna. She came with him. And I take your point about Denth. Too many unknowns. And you're right. Maybe Returned can't conceive in between themselves, but with the help of a mortal woman... This is most likely why the Returned weren't allowed outside the Court of Gods. But didn't Lightsong mention that some Returned took their priests as partners for a laugh? That wouldn't match up. Also, another question that tingled me... Why did Vasher raid Mercystar's palace? He went into the tunnel, but never 'found' anything, just a way out, or at least he didn't talk about what he saw down there. Surely he must have found evidence of the priests of Pahn Kahl's insurrection? Why didn't he then question that the priests were behind it? And who followed him in the black clothes? Or was Lightsong wrong in that regard?

Being able to steal more effectively? It might not be unEndowment, it might just be a complement. It could enhance Endowment so to speak. Thats why alot of people people the counterpart would be Cultivation. To Give and to Grow are almost opposite, but then work together. You could Grow, only to Give, or Give, then Grow again. However, to Destroy and the Preserve are direct opposites, and couldn't work in conjunction.

How about boots with spikes on them so that Crashers like Wax can do more damage to people when he (feruchemically-enhancedly) lands on them with three months worth of active storage?
-
You pointed out in your own theory thread that Shards with complements form patterns of 16, whereas Shards operating alone often capitulated in 10s. Perhaps, if Endowment met its match, there would be more Heightenings? How could there be? Some of the Heightenings (like perfect pitch and 'max life sense') already seem like a stretch to fill blanks.

I have to admit that Lightsong was my favorite character throughout the book, and that I always thought he was right. And that Blushweaver was wrong to do as she did. But they are said to be 'Returned' for a 'reason', and would it be contradictory or not if the reason that Lightsong was Returned was in fact to grant Susebron his tongue, and in doing so suppress the war that Blushweaver foolishly created, but was Returned to do so? So Lightsong was Returned to help stop Blushweaver who, Returned to do so, inadvertently started the war? Maybe Endowment wanted people to restore faith in Awakening, the Returned, and the Royal family, and for everyone to just get along?

Why not just shoot somebody with a metal ball with enhanced Steel pushing? Just as effective as a bow an arrow or a gun.
