Oh, please, don't attempt to insult me. I am a Chemistry Minor, but I realised it wasn't my calling. I think I know what I'm talking about when I talk realistically about Chemistry. But also, learn to take a hint that a post is a joke when the contents are ridiculous. And talking about a magical fantasy world in which noble men in tattered cloaks fly around at night using the powers granted to them by rusted nails. Seriously, I am pretty aware that NaCl is not a metal, but what is known as a hal-alkali (lovingly) by my previous Science teacher. I am also aware that the breakdown of this metal would give both a molten gloop of a metal at above room temperature that may or may not be set alight by the air around it, and an intensely poisonous gas. Also, when has a serious scientific debate been necessary when the entire subject is talking about an incredibly conjective idea that was simply designed to spark a few laughs. It did. But we are almost certain that Sodium is not a God Metal, although it would be awe inspiring. Nor would it have multiple alloys. Nor would sodium make a good metal in the strictest sense (compared to, say, manly iron) for any reason. Please try to just enjoy the thread, and avoid phrases that may be seen as patronising. For I am not a fan of patronage, nor any of his lesser known brothers, ie, insulting sarcasm. And I am not an idiot. Ever heard the phrase: 'For as a sword is sharp, the tongue may shear a soul.'

For all of the things that you state you would need, the following gems would be required if the gem does determine the produced Essence: Garnet for the Blood to run through the flesh. Helidor obviously for the muscles and flesh itself. Emerald for hair etc, and organic substance. Amethyst if you were doing the arm and hands, you might require nails. Topaz because bone falls under 'Talus' as a specific Essence, and you WILL need some of that. The amount of framework and previous set up and concentration for this to work would be sheerly impossibly though. If you going to make a working model of an arm, with appropriate materials for all different aspects I mentioned, and then have to Soulcast them into existence ALL AT ONCE, why not just sew up the stump and be done with it? Besides, its immodestly expensive.

I was pretty sure it was, if you have any other ideas, though, I'm all ears, because this is mere conjecture. Also, Voidus, it is possible to gain hairline fractures all the while, and then it one final Soulcasting, the gem may break, but then the entire cracking would be attributed to that one Soulcasting, whereas it was just that the gem had reached threshold breakage. You state this despite of myself actually offering this feedback in my initial quote: However, about the Jasnah -> cold gem part of your reply, I still feel that although she might suffer some pain and discomfort, the damage is caused to the gem by the fact that it absorbs and negates some of the cold, which breaks some of the bonds within the gem. And so, by the time that any cold reaches Jasnah, then it may be significantly reduced. However, maybe this doesn't happen, and Jasnah does suffer some damage, like the Kaladin example I just quoted.

If Order Ten's vital Body Focus and Essence is Sinew or Flesh, perhaps it could be an ability that detects only living organisms (with flesh?), such as 'life sense' in Warbreaker. Life sense sounds like a fundamental force, and would explain why things like breeze (which trigger sound waves) didn't set it off, while a human approaching did. However, I am skeptical about it encompassing all living things, as the grass growing in the field around the Heliodor in tWoK didn't set it off (however, it might be the Movement of Life that sets it off, not the Presence, especially because that girl was stood next to it the whole time but because she didn't move it didn't trigger?).

Tears of Edgli aren't Endowment's Physical Aspect?
Odium's_Shard replied to Windrunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If you mean more powerful Commands could be accessed using Endowment Physical Manifestation, then I believe that the most powerful ones you can get are the most abstract, because they cover the largest scope (ie 'Protect me' costs alot, but protects from ALL and in EVERY way), but also have the most useful manifestations. And excellent Command, if properly visualized, and perhaps with Endowment's Pure Power as a colour/source of power, might be: 'Kill my enemies.' But then you might have a difficult time with the entire 'Intent' phenomenon that we see in series like 'The Sword of Truth', in which the sword, say, has a difficult time being able to perceive what an 'enemy' is, and may take it to both extremes, ie, killing people you only mildly distrust, or not killing people sprinting towards you with a warhammer in hand, simply because you don't know they're there and can't perceive them as 'aggresor', because the sword sure can't think of its own will. Instead, I believe a good activation phrase might go: "Kill people whose names I say following the word 'kill'." If that is possible, with a number of Breaths, would this, instead of a normal Awakened Objects (like a sword) create a Lifeless Object (in which the Breaths can never be retrieved) much like Nightblood. I still feel they could've handled Nightblood's Command much better than they did. They should have put a security phrase in, so they could edit the Commands it receives, much like normal Lifeless, or at least put in an activation code, such as 'Destroy evil when I draw' or some such catch. -
The Fate of Tanavast and the Shard of Honor
Odium's_Shard replied to Shardbinder 17's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Firstly, welcome to the forums! Don't worry too much, we don't (all) bite, even though there was that one, nasty incident... However, and please take no personal offence, but it is my personal job, as temporary and undisputed (as of yet) Holder of the Shard Odium, in all its Terrible and Concerning Manifestations, to slowly digest and then regurgitate theoretically every single comment made in your post. Only kidding, I analyse word choice too. I think that this quote does indeed agree with Highstorms, however, even though Hoid was at the Shattering of Adonalsium, we have no proof that he 'personally' knows the Shards and their Holders save the Letter (which is conjecturally attributed to him). So the fact that he says that he hides from 'him' as opposed to 'it' means that, unless the Highstorms are literally Honor, which you might argue accounts for the face in the Storm, then Hoid can't be referencing Honor. Also, what reason (save Highstorms and their obviously deadly impacts), would Hoid have to hide from Honor, who is, figuratively speaking, dead. Its a pretty odd friends reunion. -
Ask him to mind his manners and take their confrontation to a less public place for a civilised discussion on topics of Great Interest to the Cosmere, as well as politely inferring that in order to 'torture' the information out of his, they might just lock him in a cushioned, well-furnished room, perhaps with several wall decorations just for a semblance of sanity (optional), while gently playing Justin Beiber's 'Baby' and, perhaps, 14 decibels, until it drives him so mentally-deficient that he relinquishes all hold over the data on how to combine Adonalsium, all the while muttering under his breath, 'Oh how I hate Selema Gomez.'. Although, you might be able to go through and revise that to make it more apathetic. For example, 'torture' seems to enthusiastic, and why would they even bother to save the Cosmere if they have no concern? Besides, 14 decibels shows way to much emotion.

Obviously, the difficulty with a sky Lashing is that the Stormlight contained within the object, set to perform 'Gravity', will eventually run out, and that stone will falls somewhere. Maybe on top of people. It isn't an accurate science, whereas Szeth simply Lashing himself to 'wall' has a far more predictable result.
-
Perhaps, instead of Nightblood 'stealing life', it is programmed by its very own Command and instructions in order to 'destroy evil', right? So perhaps, in its mind, and thus within Endowment's rules, Nightblood feels like it just 'gives Death'?

Remember that Kelsier heralded Malatium as the coming of the 'Eleventh Metal', when really it was just an alloy of Atium. So it is possibly one of the alloys of Lerasium of Atium. If more godmetals need to be discovered, I personally, on behalf of the Following of the Epic God Metal, propose sodium. See here for its description. "I rest my case."

I really need to read AoL to get these tantalising hints.

why are soulcasters more powerful than windrunners?
Odium's_Shard replied to master's topic in Stormlight Archive
I doubt this. Personally, feels like another 'remnant of Honor', ala Dalinar's visions. I believe instead that the 'something of their own' is indeed a Reverse Lashing. Szeth is a Surgebinder, and there is something strange going on in this sense, but I doubt he has access to one and a half sets of KR powers, presuming that he can access more than one set, and that he has no other powers we aren't aware of. Also, where else would Reverse Lashings lie? It would have to be in either Nalan (2) or Ishi (10) to coincide with Szeth's Windrunner abilities. Also, it could be explained as a combination of the two WR powers: Take the arrow -> shield example. The arrow is coursing through the air. Windrunner touches shield, infuses Light and then 'prisms' (my terminology for 'bend the Light', those of you familiar with my 'vessels-theory' will know this) it into the two separate KR powers he possesses, but in the SAME objects at the SAME time. The shield then imposes both gravitational pulls (towards the user) but also exerts atmospheric pressure on the now recoursed arrows, funneling it towards the shield. The shield catches the arrow, and the user is safe. However, this may break down, especially in light of the 'Reverse Lashing takes least Light' fact, but maybe this has to do with the fact that a KR's hybrid ability may cost less Light because it is further mastery, as opposed to 'two Surges used equals twice cost'. -
Which I still have a few problems with, if the temperature change were sufficient enough to fracture gemstones then there is absolutely no way a human could withstand that without a lot of physical alteration. Also as you pointed out in that thread, Shallan felt the same sensation of cold so she obviously held the stormlight at some point which means she needed to gain it which means (if inhaling is the only method of drawing stormlight) she needed to inhale, which she didn't. Now that you have actively disputed my theorem, I am left with little choice but to parry with you, oh Voidus(bringer)! I get where you are coming from with this. However, when Stormlight passes from the Storm to the gem, the gems don't crack, do they? Sure, we have no evidence (can someone look for a quote when Kaladin was barring the Highstorm and had the gem in his hand that filled with Stormlight?) that they actually get cold after storm->gem, and there might be something illogical going on with the Highstorms and the Origin, but it seems logical to suggest that they do feel the change, and they don't just shatter. I also never (specifically) suggested anywhere in my post that they immediately shatter when used in Surgebinding straight from the medium (gem). They seem to gradually gain hairline fractures until it finally breaks. Seemingly, the more Stormlight taken (used) from them at any one time, the more damage (cold) they seem to take. When Jasnah took out the thieves by turning them into crystal, she must've expended alot of Stormlight from the gem to do so, and so it just burst. Seems logical. When Kaladin infuses things, he gets cold. When he used the Reverse Lashing in a fit of power, he got terribly cold (I believe it is mentioned) but obviously, that is of a lesser concern when he has a volley of arrows stuck in his arm. However, it might cause permanent, or at least later, damage to him and his cells, such as stiffness, denaturing of enzymes, halt in production of protein, even tissue death. If he made a major expenditure of Light, ála Jasnah -> thief, then we may see the damage you describe, and the damage we see the gem take. Also, gems like that are far less resilient (and can't heal themselves) than humans, and so it is the accumulative use and damage that causes them to break, not the first use (unless that first use is firing twin bolts of pure awesome at fleeing thieves in order to turn their entire bodies into harmless crystallic lucentia). I rest my case. Care to counter-attack? Please do. Telcontar said he can't play for now.

Upvoted, hoser! I like this! What you're saying is that a Shardplate acts sort of like a multi-faceted fabrial that controls all powers of the KR and all the Surges in different parts of the body in a accordance to my 'prismic Light' theory (which basically says gem determines power). So: The central piece: Regrowth, Sense (my name for the power we saw in the Shin merchant interlude in the heliodor fabrial). The sabatons: Pressure, Gravity The gauntlets: Soulcasting (that would be awesome but the Ardents wouldn't allow it) The helm: Spanreed technology (related to rubies)? As a side note: Do you think that a talented Soulcaster could give birth to Life, using the Essence of Sinew? Perhaps this is what Regrowth is? Advanced Soulcasting?

I have a new idea for 'owling', wherever you sad people are out there that perform such tomfoolery. Sit on a fence in the middle of a Highstorm, eating a waffle, in order to test Telcontar's theory about waffle0spren, so that I can put together a ridiculous experiment about it that defiles the very nature of the theorem, as I have proceeded to do throughout the 'Mistborn' and 'Stormlight Archive' boards! Prereqisites: Have to have at least a B in Wafflematics at Wafflemaster Devotary. As only eunuchs can enter the Devotary, this makes for a 'substantial' payment.

They worked together conciously to create humanity, because they needed 'Harmony' as such to be able to 'create', which involves Preservation and Ruin. However, the fact that they are in such close proximity, like with Windrunner's examples in chemicals, throws out results whether they like it or not.

The Shaod = Snapping = Giving Breath = Acting with Honor
Odium's_Shard replied to ROSHtafARian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
^ We assumed that by thirty magic systems, he meant that there would be ten under each of the Three Shards on Roshar (although we haven't even proven there are three), each one a 'Surge', which could be described as a 'magic system'. This was supported by the fact we know there is Ten Surges, so we assume there will be Ten 'Voids' and another Ten under Cultivation/Other Shard. -
Telcontar, you have returned! You've missed out on LOADS of new upcoming theorem ideas! You really should check out my and Windrunner's posts and topics on General Theories for the biggest ones so far.
-
Also, as an appendix, what is to stop Szeth from stealing Light from the gems located in Shardplate, thus rendering it useless before his Shardblade? What makes Shardplate different/special, because as we've heard from Dalinar's descriptions, there certainly is something inexplainable about some of its powers.
-
Maybe thats what he intended to do with Preservation and Ruin. But if you sign up to Windrunner's theory of Complement Shards like I do, they must have been working together (or at least be a pair of Shards) to form a balance magic (ChayShan).
-
I have come up with something that I, stupidly, have never considered, and although I'm sure it has already been thought of among the brilliants minds gathered here on this forum, I shall propose it. What is to stop Kaladin from stealing the Light in Szeth's gems as soon as they meet. Szeth takes Light from gems. What makes gems in a Windrunner's possession different? Or aren't they? If so, it is just the first person who draws in all Stormlight around them first, presuming they can't steal it from the body itself (which has a Cognitive shield, so to speak). Perhaps the reason a gem yields Stormlight is because it can't defend itself against the invasive Cognitive presence of the Windrunner, and so its Light is 'stolen'.
-
Interestingly, Windrunner, it was finishing tWoK and being confused by the use of the term Adonalsium, seemingly randomly, that prompted me to look up 'brandon sanderson adonalsium' on a famous search engine, and The Coppermind came up. When I saw it was part of a bigger conspiracy, and a bigger site (17th Shard), with its own forums, and that it was ALL linked back to three of my favorite books I read back in 2010, tFE, tWoA, tHoA, I HAD to sign up and learn more.

The Knights of the Rose and Cross
Odium's_Shard replied to Aiken Frost's topic in Stormlight Archive
Everything that holds the Splinters of the Awesome Shard (coincidentally, the 17th Shard) has been stolen from Brandon, for, if those Splinters are indeed of the Shard Awesome, and these Shards are Parts of the Great Adonalsium that is, in fact, Brandon Sanderson, then, theoretically, BS holds sway over everything. As he should. -
Spren: An Interesting Comparison
Odium's_Shard replied to Odium's_Shard's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Exactly. Why do you think I haven't read Elantris yet? Also, in all honestly, the occasional reference to things such as 'Reod' and 'Aon', etc, really hold no spoiler potential, as without context, they lack substance to 'shock'. Whereas 'the Almighty is dead' really can't be misinterpreted anyway you look at it.
