The confusion seems to stem from the idea that KR destroyed their previous world which is not the case, nor stated in-book anywhere I can find. Surgebinders may have destroyed their previous world with "surges and spren" (though I have my doubts), but the KR as orders were not created until after the heralds were created and the cycle of desolations began. My doubt comes from the fact that I imagine beings native to Roshar would refer to any visible manifestation of investiture as "surgebinding" due to that being the familiar term, even if it was something else.

As far as we know all Cosmere healing works the same way as has been mentioned above. Lopen never saw himself as crippled at all so he was able to heal. Kaladin sees the brands/scars as part of himself so he didnt heal them. Hobber has struggled to find a place since he lost the use of his legs, hasnt adjusted yet so probably still sees himself as able bodied so was healable. I doubt Renarin ever tried to heal him. Rysn wishes she could still travel but ultimately has accepted she is unable to and so healing doesnt work.

theory [OB] I think, Shallan is being manipulated by Odium/Ashertmarn...
Jace21 replied to a topic in Stormlight Archive
There is another example of telepathy and it isn't from a Shard. Mistborn Spoilers So it is certainly possible that Hoid could have figured out how to do it and if he can I doubt it would be breaking cosmere rules, just following a method we are not yet aware of. It could also just be Shallan using his voice in her subconscious as other have said. I still dont see the two pieces of advise as different, just seperate explanations of the same thing. I concede it is possible it was the unmade/odium as there is no direct evidence against it, but the other options seem much more likely to me.- 73 replies

theory [OB] I think, Shallan is being manipulated by Odium/Ashertmarn...

I read it the same way as Calderis. I see what you guys are saying but I don't think the two pieces of advice are contradictory at all. Besides if it was Odium and be used Wits voice then it implies he knows where Wit is. And Wit seems absolutely convinced that if Odium found him he would obliterate him which clearly has not happened.- 73 replies

Susebron has a lot of breath yes (we actually dont know if Vasher or Shashara ever had more) but at the end of Warbreaker at least, he knew absolutely nothing about the awakening process of Nightblood. I prefer the idea that Vivienna awakened it herself before or during the Warbreaker sequel, Nightblood.

Pretty sure Amaram pointed to himself after denying it was Kaladin. He couldn't forgive himself, as we saw with Kaladin pointing out that despite his justifications, he still hurt from what he had done.

To me it seems that the same shard or comination of shards could be named differently depending in the holder and their interpretation of the intent. Odium as Passion and Honor as Unity are possible examples but the best one for me is in Mistborn: Mistborn spoilers

[OB] Taravangian's Dustbringer... Isn't?
Jace21 replied to WalksIntoMordor's topic in Stormlight Archive
As far as I can tell Renarin has bonded Glys, a Truthwatcher spren. Sure he is corrupted but that doesnt change his fundamental type, so Renarin doesnt just have powers similar to Progression, he has Progression. Taravangian to me seemed the opposite of amazed that he had found a Radiant, quite the opposite in fact. He says the Diagram predicted a Radiant within his ranks and that said Radiant would probably be a Dustbringer as their temperament matches best with that of the Diagramists. Having said that her spren could very well be corrupted. We know it's possible and it does seem very blase about the potential destruction of the planet. -
They are manifestations of spren, yes, but the fact that they naturally manifest as 6 foot long swords indicates they had a specific purpose. Sure the living blades can change form but their default state is an impractically large sword.

Thats precisely my point. Nale believes Taln is still in Damnation so everything is fine. However the Tashikki should be worried if he does show up as the consequence is that a new desolation has arrived, of which they wouldn't like. He talks about Tashi in the present tense because he knows Taln is alive, albeit in Damnation. Much like how I could talk about someone far away in the present tense and it be gramatically correct. I agree he could listen to Ishar and still be warning them about him, it just seems simpler if the warning is about someone else. I remember from when Tashi was first discussed in the Edgedancer subforum that Tashi could be Odium. Now that 9 unmade is all but confirmed, the "Tashi and the nine" reference could be more ominous and also fits with what Nale said. On the topic of Tezim I feel that he is probably Jezrien. I cant see how even Nale would be ok taking orders/advise from the author of that spanreed conversation, assuming Tezim wrote or dictated it.
-
I had always thought Tashi = Taln. With Nale saying that they wouldn't like the consequences of him arriving at their city because it would mean another desolation had begun. Not sure if we have cofirmation either way but since Nale seems to be warning them against the coming of Tashi but seems to respect Ishar I would lean towards Tashi =/= Ishar. Tezim could certainly be Ishar though, with another Herald being almost as likely. Since he was first mentioned I wanted him to be Kelsier but I admit that he wont be.

I dont believe anyome has found where Adolin cut away his chalk mark yet. If I read the chapter correctly then the scoring they found was outside on the balcony, probably from when the blade was falling after Adolin dumped it. I expect they will put it together, but no one seems to have done so at this point.

So many comments taking information as confirmed when it isnt, don't remember this happening in previous weeks, these 3 chapters seem to have generated a lot 9f theory crafting. I dont think it has been mentioned in this thread yet but an "ends justify the means" personality such as that displayed by Taravangian does not necessarily run counter to the first ideal. I do not necessarily think he will be a radiant but he could be.
-
I am not buying the mimicspren being an Unmade. Not unless its power is a lot more significant than it seems. I have no real alternative explanation though, a corrupted mid-level spren maybe? Not as mindless as say firespren but not sapient like a radiant spren. More like a river spren. All in all though so far the chapters up to this point are just convincing me that there is no "good side" or at fhe very least that who in the right has changed many times.

I couldnt help but think of Shinovar when Shallan was telling her story. 1. Mountains protect and isolate the country, much like the wall in the story. 2. I am not aware of any earth-like predators on Roshar, only prey animals such as horse and pigs. No predators in between the village and the wall. 3. No mention of spren at all. 4. Stormlight seems to exist on the other side but not hers until she brings it back. Do the highstorms still infuse as strongly in Shinovar? 5. The wall is to seperate people from something else. Listeners maybe? I know that humans on Roshar came from a variety of places and some at least pre-date the planets shards, but is it possible the Shin actually arrived before everyone else?
-
Hey! I always love a dawnsinger theory but its really late so I'll comment more tomorrow. Just wanted to mention a couple of things: 1. Humans first arrived before H & C did, not after. 2. As far as I am aware, we dont know if the Roshar humans came from Ashyn. It is a popular theory but there are other possibilities that are equally likely. Neither of these means your theory cant be correct, I find it just helps to keep the details straight.

I dont think he is a Dysian Aimian, Arclo mentions in Edgedancer that his disguise doesn't hold up under close scrutiny and I doubt any Dysian will. He could definitely be a worldhopper though, all the signs are there and Scadrial seems likely.

[OB] Theory: the Voidbringers were....
Jace21 replied to 11thorderknight's topic in Stormlight Archive
I like the idea that the radiants were part of the problem. And a lot of information about voidbringers and radiants could have been confused by the hierocracy and their prejudice againsf radiants. Having said that, Nale also said that the Parshendi are voidbringers, or at least heavily implied it. I know he is insane but that doesnt seem like something he would get wrong. -
Didn't Nale say that pockets of void form Parshendi had been found in the past though? I may be misremembering Edgedancer though.

[OB] Shallan free Kaladin and Adolin discussions
Jace21 replied to MPHRD's topic in Stormlight Archive
It is worth noting that Kaladins 2nd Oath is "to protect even those I hate, so long as it is right". I think a case could be made that given the circumstances and for the good of the world, Sadeas had to go. Combine that with Kaladin's feelings toward Sadeas and his absence at the time, I really can't see him having a particular issue with it. I am totally wanting a Kaladin/ Adolin bromance though, it'll be awesome. If Adolin becomes a KR I think it'll be even better. -
[OB] Shalladin isn't as bad of an idea as you think.
Jace21 replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I absolutley agree with the idea that Kal should find someone to who loves and supports him and makes him happy. I also think him with a light eyed woman would make for a more engaging storyline than a darkeyed woman. I also want Shallan to find someone who can help her with her issues and make her happy. Sadly at this point I dont think either is that person for the other. Whereas Adolin could be for Shallan. Shalladin is totally possible and wont bother me if it happens but they would both need to change before a relationship can work. -
[OB] Ok. What is going on with May aladar?
Jace21 replied to Steeldancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
Would May have the physical strength to have comitted the murderer? We know the method was a dagger through the eye, the kill of a trained warrior. Her knowing that was the methodwouldnt necessarily make her capable of doing it herself, particularly against someone who is most likely stronger than she is and who seemed to have gone through an extended fight. I like the twist but cant see how she could have been. -
[OB] Shalladin isn't as bad of an idea as you think.
Jace21 replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree at this point in time I don't think Shallan is ready for a serious relationship, at the very least she and Adolin will eventually have to come clean about their various murders before they live happily ever after, much as she and Kal would have to resolve the "I killed your favorite brother" thing. But based on what I've seen in the text a Shadolin just seems to make more sense to me with the information available. I wouldnt Kaladin being wittier is a particular problem, Adolin is plenty witty and has shown it multiple times. As witty as Shallan? No but very few characters are. From an academia point of view, he hasnt studied as a surgeon, but he is well read enough and secure enough in his knowledge that he feels comfortable recommending books to his scholarly betrothed. Having said all that, stressful situations can push people together, even when it wouldnt normally happen. We've seen this with the chasm scene, the focal point of Shalladin. As they are both radiants and Adolin is not (at this point), any solo Shalladin missions could change the dynamic. If Brandon does change the focus from Shadolin to Shalladin, I am sure the story will have reached the point where it makes sense. But at the moment, it doesnt, at least in my opinion. -
[OB] Shalladin isn't as bad of an idea as you think.
Jace21 replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree it seems a bit of an odd move. I always saw Dalinars explanation that Jasnah hoped to tie Shallan to the Kholins as the main explanation, possibly also to alleviate her worry about her family so she can focus and contrubute more to the war effort, such as it is. Afterall if I knew the end of the world was coming and I knew that 1 other person and myself had powers with no guarantee anyone else would, you can bet I would do anything possible to get that person on my side and keep them there. -
[OB] Shalladin isn't as bad of an idea as you think.
Jace21 replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I personally am not particularly invested in either of Shadolin or Shalladin as far as the SA end game goes. Yes, I prefer to read Adolin more than Kaladin, but that would be the case regardless of which Shallan was romantically interested in (since I actually prefer both of them to Shallan anyway). What I find so interesting is the way the Shalladin ship has generated so much momentum already, based on what I see as very little support from the text. Before anyone shoots me, I have read all the preview chapters and recently finished a re-read of tWoK and WoR. I am 100% of the opinion that Kaladin likes Shallan and would be open to a relationship, at least once he finishes getting over his class prejudices. However I have never felt like Shallan was romantically interested in Kal. She acknowledges that he is ruggedly handsome, but as a statement of fact, not in a particularly romantic manner. In the very next sentence she says about how his intensity frightens her. Later on she is musing about said intensity amd misses what Adolin is saying. On the surface this seems to promote the ship, but again, there may be a vague interest yet the musing is about something that previously worried her and seems more intellectual than romantic. The blush that followed is something a lot of people would do if they realised they spaced out mid-conversation, regardless of the reason. And the brightlord brooding eyes comment just seems like something she would think about someome she had a friendly yet antagonstic relationship with. As I said, I have nothing against the main male and female characters romance trope, I trust that whatever Brandon has planned it will be well written and make perfect sense. I just dont see how, at this point, some people seem to think that Shalladin is well supported and makes more sense that Shadolin. I really like the proposed path in the OP though, it fits with what we have seen so far and would allow all 3 characters to develop without an actual love triangle.
