Its possible, but equally likely that the newly reformed being decides it doesnt need you anymore, or wipes your mind as a side effect of reforming etc. It would definitely be interesting but I dont think I'd risk it unless I knew "Adonalsium" could be safely reformed without danger to the holder of the individual shards.
-
I think that would fall under the "too difficult to be feasible" category. If you held all the shards and it was possible to rejoin them fully, I don't see why a Bondsmith could do it if you couldnt. Another point to consider is that by rejoining them and unifying the intents into "essentially Adonalsium" you have juay given the power you hold its own complete consciousness. I dont see it working out well for the vessel at that point.

I like Objectivity a lot better than Apathy and I can definitely see it being a shard. It fits more with Preservation as well to me, they would both be between the extremes but are still something you must do actively.

Why couldn't he be? Best we can tell so far is that the requirements to be a squire are loyalty to a Radiant of that order (Kaladin) and desire to follow those principals, which Rock has. Hence he is a Windrunner squire. I see no reason why the above can't be true while he better epitomises a different order and attracts that spren instead of an Honorspren. I love the idea personally, it would be an extra dynamic within bridge 4 that could be really interesting. With regards to Vathah though, I see no reason why he can't be a Lightweaver, he took to spying exceptionally quickly and could have some artistic talent we have yet to see. I don't think lack of self-awareness is required to be a Lightweaver, only that high-ideal Lightweavers need to be self-aware. An example would be Hoid, he seems to attract a Cryptic and actually tells the Cryptic that he is already self-aware enough.

I see your interpretation of that but when I first saw that WOB I read it differently. I first read it as saying that Dalinar didn't get plate when he swore the ideal in Oathbringer, so Brandon couldnt use that to figure out what ideal he was on. The ambiguity combined with Dalinars inherant skill with Plate and the fact that neither of the 2 main plate theories (lesser spren or solid stormlight) should prevent a Bondsmith having plate makes me think that Dalinar WILL get Plate, but no Blade. That said there is a lot of evidence that he won't so that wouldn't surprise me either.

It does but Khriss is still alive and active from that same era, so some way of lengthening your life (or worldhopping to one) could be accessed from Taldain. Add to that the fact that it could have been named after him by someone else who has lived that long and it is certainly possible the two Kentons are the same person. That said I think it is probably just an easter egg, though I think if it is named after him, it has nothing to do with Autonomy.

fused [OB] Let’s discuss. How the Fused use Voidlight
Jace21 replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think the void light comes from their direct connection to Odium/BAM. That said I belueve they are definitely limited, but I think it is by quantity. I think they can only hold as much Voidlight as can fit in their Gemheart. Once used, that investiture is relenished. It explain the strangeness with their surges too. We are repeatedly told that while the flying fused are highly skilled and have the same top speed, they accelerate slower than Kal/Szeth. This makes sense if you give them a small, but replenishing amount of Voidlight. Due to the smaller amount they can't pile as many lashings on top of each other like a Radian can. But once their Voidlight replenishes they can juat keep adding more, and reach the same speed.- 67 replies

My headcannon is that Szeths father is one of the stone shamans. As a leader of his people it would make even more sense that he would want to distance himself from Szeth. While we know little of Shin culture, being the son and possible heir of a stone shaman would also explain Szeths training with the Honourblades (all 10 surges) and being referred to in the WoB as "very respected" before he became a truthless.

Precisely, I imagine a mistborn on Roshar would be thought of by most as a weird kind of Surgebinder, like Nightblood is not the same as a Shardblade but still called one. I imagine the magic of Ashyn could achieve similar effects to Surgebinding and Honohrs point was more that humans had used magic irresponsibly in the past, not that the magic had been the same.

[OB] Anybody feel like a healthy Speculation on the Fused
Jace21 replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actually they could easily be the same thing. In the epilogue of Oathbringer Hoid mentions that thoysands of years ago he had shared a dance with one of the fused. The most likely time for this to happen is the small window that the Listeners who became the fused were alive and before war/the 1st desolation began. Given that he was probably around for that window its not a huge stretch to imagine he was there for the 1st desolation. Or he could have fled Roshar once the 1st desolation became inevitable so that he could avoid Odium. -
[OB] Anybody feel like a healthy Speculation on the Fused
Jace21 replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
Their forms of power are from having certain voidspren in their genhearts, similar to how the Radiants powers come from their spren bond. When I said it wasnt important I meant the specific mechanic used for their return pre-Everstorm. Personally I am most interested about the 1st Desolation and their history with Hoid. -
[OB] Anybody feel like a healthy Speculation on the Fused
Jace21 replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think you are misinterpreting something. There are no fused in WoR. There are only Storm Form parshendi. The storm form spren were attracted and trapped in the usual manner. We have no reason to believe they were bound elsewhere before that, just that the Listeners hadn't done anything to attract them pre-WoR. The Parshendi the merged with the spren during a regular high storm. These Storm Form Parshendi then summoned the Everstorm. Now in Oathbringer during the Everstorm we see the fused merge with Listeners and so gain physical form. But we also learn about the Oathpact amd that the fused used to return when the Heralds broke and returned to Roshar. Now my guess is that in the past, when the Heralds broke they returned to Roshar and a short time after the Fused followed. The Heralds then led the resistence, defeated the Fused and ended the Desolation. The Heralds then returned to Braize voluntarily and within a short period of time (unless they had died already). If they didnt then after a short period (probably the same time the Heralda have on Roshar before the fused show up) the fused were again released. The Heralds thought by Taln going back they could stay on Roshar without consequences and to an extent they were right. The Everstorm in the Modern day serves like a back door. The Fused can return via the Everstorm without needing to break a Herald or wait for the grace period to elapse . Hence infinite lives and the ability to fight forever until they win. Sadly we dont know exactly how the fused appeared on Roshar pre-Everstorm, but it doesnt really matter. The "old of design" was probably a reference that Odium had planned something like an Everstorm long ago but could not execute it. It is probably down to the weakness of the Heralds/Oathpact that he had been unable to. -
Can you quote it? I have seen the below: But this doesnt say "same powers, different access method", only same basic principles. The same could be said for all cosmere magic, particularly where the same effect can be achieved through multiple magic systems. He also distinctly says the magic system is slightly different, which to my mind means it isn't "surges" unless you generalise, as the natives of Roshar would. Its certainly up for debate but my point that it could be different magic and the same cataclysmic effect still stands. To go back the the idea of the timeline, as I said, the timeline itself looks good to me, the only bits missing are the Shin Invasions amd the Scouring of Aimia as has been mentioned. These are both post-recreance but we can't be much more specific than that with any degree of certainty.
-
I agree with the timeline as a whole, though a fair amount of the detail is speculation. Backed by evidence, but still not confirmed. To nitpick the nitpick, we actually don't even know for sure that surges were involved at all, unless there is a new WoB I havent read. I know its semantics, but I imagine any type of magic on Roshar would be assumed to be surges. Until we get details (if we ever do) we only know that Ashyn was destroyed by irresponsible use of whatever magic system was there at the time. I realise its super vague, but its worth noting that a lot of things that we take for granted that are highly likely but still not confirmed.

The objection to bows in the video also doesnt matter on Roshar. The main issue with angels and bows is that a bow should be fired from the side if the body, which doesnt work with wings and that a drawn bow would get in the way of your wings. Since radiant/fused flight has nothing to do with wings, a bow would be fine. I prefer the spear/lance/glaive idea personally, especially if its a shardweapon but the reasons given against using a bow are not valid.

I am not sure they really refuse to accept it, though it is possible. They could just think it doesnt apply to them. They did stay in Shinovar as they were supposed to and I imagine there are few if any parshmen in Shinovar. My preferred option is that the stone shamanate dont believe Dalinar can deal with it, so plan to deal with it themselves if they need to. If I recall, Szeth claimed the Voidbringers had returned? So if the stone shamanate knows its history (ashyn humans were the voidbringers) he could still be wrong in their eyes.

sibling {OB} The 3rd so called Sibling
Jace21 replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
Oh, I don't necessarily think we have necessarily seen the Sibling yet, but I do think that we will have had hints as to their identitity before we do. You are absolutely correct that "they" is unusual in formal writing as a gender-neutral pronoun. My first counter point would be that it is fairly common in speech, as you noted, and the Stormfather is speaking when he says it. A second point is one of language. Here on Earth we don't have any truly gender neutral sapient beings, so English has never needed to talk about them. That would make the options "that Spren" which sounds odd and impersonal coming from a sibling, the Stormfather, "it" which has negative conotations and so could be misinderstood, or "he/him" which in modern usage would just be confusing and make the Sibling being male. I agree that "them" seems odd at first glance but I think it was the best/only choice available.- 15 replies

sibling {OB} The 3rd so called Sibling
Jace21 replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
I still think the Sibling could be Cusicesh but it is unlikely. I also trust to Brandons foreshadowing enough to know that once the Sibling's identity is revealed, I will probably slap myself for not having figured it out sooner. That said, I still hope Cusicesh is somehiw involved, I am weirdly fascinated considering how little we know if him.- 15 replies

[OB] Theory: Obrodai is First of the Sun
Jace21 replied to I think I am here.'s topic in Cosmere Discussion
I always got the impression the place of "these waters" and Obradai were definitely NOT the same place. To me it sounds Hoid went to Obradai to leave his message but the avatar there is young. As such the Patji avatar responded instead and warned him not to return to Obradai and that if he wanted to speak more he should go to Patji itself and earn its respect. I could very well be wrong but thats my two cents. -
The Lord Ruler aka Rashek or another fullborn easily beats anyone else we have seen so far. Then Szeth if he has nightblood as infinite Stormlight makes it incredibly OP. After that, probably radiants, either Szeth sans Nightblood, Kaladin or Jasnah of those we have seen, again due to infinite Stormlight. We don't really know what a full strength trained Elantrian could do, same goes for Hoid so it hard to rank them against awakeners, Mistborn and Feruchemists.

The only plot-armor Matt officially has in-universe is extreme luck. I can't see a way that even Matt's luck can stop Kel's swarm of fast moving pieces of metal. Aside from luck he has the medallion, which doesnt help against allomantic steel or iron and his memories, which are of limited use against an opponent with abilities he has never seen before. Pure combat skill, Matt would probably win even if Kel has pewter but if you allow steel and iron I dont see how Matt can take it. For Rashek vs Rand one thing is certain, it wouldn't take long. Compounded Steel and Gold probably give it to Rashek but I could see that one going either way.
-
If Kelsier has Allomancy he wins. WoT spoliers Matt has no way of protecting hinself from Kel's flying pieces if metal and can't match the physical capabilities of pewter. Thousands of years of memories can't overcome that.

Not sure if this is a "wouldnt this be cool" or a fight thread so I'll do both. I think it wouod be hilarious, at keast fir a while, not sure well much they' get along in the long term though. If the fight is just straight h2h combat with favoyred weapons then Matt probably wins. If Kelsier has basic metals he woukd destroy Matt. If Kel had atium then it wouldnt even be a fight.

As awesome as flying Shardplate would be, I think the more likely scenario is just that windrunners and skybreakers can lash themselves through their own plate. I imagine it has something to do with Connection/Identity that makes it so that uses/manifestations of investiture by the same person do not interfere with one another.
