Gramatically speaking, Odium didn't neessarily exclude children in his deal. It certainly could be interpreted that way but an equally valid meaning would be to include new children. After all, as soon as they are born they could be considered to "have been born into it".

That very much depends how you define spren. Personally I would say that "spren" as a term only applies to the sentient investiture we have seen on Roshar. Rosharan people may call other things spren as it is the closest approximation, even when it is something else. An example would be when Shallan transforms the boat in WoR. It has a cognitive aspect that she communicates with via Pattern but I think saying that cognitive aspect is a "spren" is making the term far more general than it was intended to be. But since Roshar are just rediscovering their magic system they dont have all the terminology yet.

I was a big fan of this theory so I was gutted when I first saw the WoB saying that Cusicesh didnt have anything to do with the sibling in the way the questioner thought. The "1 level lower" WoB never bothered me, there are plenty of ways the Cusicesh could be a level below and still be the sibling. Alas, it seems it is not to be. Cusicesh is one of the mysteries that mosts interests me, he seems to be unique so far, inasmuch as he doesnt seem like a Godspren or an Unmade but is definitely above a regular spren. Strange.

No we dont. But from what we have seen of other magic systems, nothing indicates they could beat a fullborn. Said magic system would have to give you godly reaction speed, a way to counter atium, to negate compounded f-gold and make you essentially invulnerable and able survive the super pewter punch. To the best of my knowledge no other system seen even hints that it could do that. 10-surge, Nigbtblood wielding Szeth is about as close as we are able to get I think but I still think TLR would stomp him. One issue I think is that TLR in this scenario has access to 2 (or 3) magic systems, whereas aside from Nightblood, Szeth has 1 (if we count surgebinding as 1, no 10)
-
I have always been of the opinion that atium is pretty much uncounterable anyway. Szeths flight speed wouldnt matter, the atium shadow would still give TLR the same amount of time to react as if he was moving slowly. Atium plus F-steel, compounded pewter and f-gold makes for an TLR that can 1 hit KO Zseth before he can even react. I dont think we've seen anyone yet who could beat a fullborn.

I am a brit and I pronounce it Zeth with a bit if the S at the front, how its spelt. We only pronounce the letter Z as zed when we are just saying the letter, not when its in a word.

[OB] The Fourth Oath, the Oath of Abandoment
Jace21 replied to MountainKing's topic in Stormlight Archive
Shallan may well have her plate already but not be able to use it consciously. In the final battle of Oathbringer when Jasnah comes to get her, both Shallan and Veil are fake, the real one is Radiant and we know that earlier in the battle Radiant was wearing plate. -
Can't anyone find this WoB? I don't remember ever seeing it. I had always been under the impression that the blade Taln had in Kholinar WAS his honorblade but was then switched before it reached the shattered planes.

Szeth (with Nightblood) Vrs. The Avengers
Jace21 replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
Probably Szeth, even without NB. Division and unlimited Stormlight seems OP. If we change the Avegers line up to include Vision or the Scarlet Witch things may be different.- 12 replies

For the purposes of this fight I think Kaladim being able to be cut by riptide is something we have to assume.

I am not sure whether the Heralds need sleep. Of the cognitive shadows we have seen so far in the Cosmere, some sleep and some dont so its hard to say. With regards to he OP I think it goes something like this: 1. The 9 Heralds are slowly broken over the course of many desolations. 2. They are so broken they wont return to damnation. 3. They are still good people so despite the fact they aren't going back, they still feel guilty. 4. They each find a way of dealing with the guilt that works for them. I think the divine atributes are not anything Honour instituted but sre just the primary attributes people saw in the Heralds. So it would make sense that each Heralds reaction is Unique and fits with what people recognise as their divine attributes. EG: Shalash (Creative, Honest) Knows herself to have deceived the world and knows she is unworthy of the reverance and worship she receives. So she destroys the art and visible reminders associated with it. Ishar (Pious, Guiding) Again is a fraud. He broke an Oath to God, betrayed Taln and misguided the people. So he tries to prevent any negative consequence by working with Nale and rule mankind so that they are ready for when his actions catch up to him. Jezrien (Protecting, Leading) Possibly takes it worse as he was the leader of the Heralds and therefore Mankind during desolations. Yet he abandoned humanity to a future desolation, Taln to millenia of torture and allowed the rest of the heralds to break their oaths too. Tries to drown the guilt and pain. Nale (Just, Confident) Seems less effected at first glance. Possibly because of his attributes allowing him to justify walking away, because he reclaimed his blade or another unknown reason. Tries to prevent the desolation whilst continuing to uphold the law but the maximum sentence possible. Projects confidemce but is aware that he is mad amd getting worse. To me all of the Heralds actions that we know of fit the idea of a guilty conscience filtered through their attributes and made 1000x worse because they were already broken. Sorry that ended up much longer than anticipated!

Unless he runs out of stormlight first. Sure he will probably have access to more than enough but its still worth considering. If they were familiar with his powers they could just stop burning atium until he ran out of light and only turn it on when he came back down. Edit: The question also supposes Kaladin is fighting an atium misting. Kelsier has access to ranged attacks and can push/pull for limited flight so Kal just flying and waiting may be less effective.

I agree that Shallan has been repressing knowledge of her plate but why do you think Lightweavers get their plate and blade earlier than anyone else? Shallan is only shown with hers the same as when any other Radiant would have it. The case if her bond having regressed complicates matters slightly but I still assume she always had them at the same ideals as everyone else.

If we are talking straight up fight where neither side has the element of surprise then I think Kal would win UNLESS 1. Kelsier has Atium. We know for a fact that Atium lets you see a few seconds into the future and enhances your mind and reflexes to process the additional information. Thats easily a big enough advantage for Kelsier to win even if he had enough for only a short fight. 2. Secret History Spoilers In any other situation Kelsier would probably lose unless he could outlast Kaladins stormlight with his metal reserves intact but I doubt he would manage it.

I have seen this opinion a lot but where is the evidence? Soldier Kaladin at the end if the day is a highly skilled regular spearmen. No supernatural abilities. Curse of Achilles Percy is completely invulnerable and has all of his physical abilities massively enhanced. Sure Kaladin killed a shardbearer but he knew where the weak spot was, with Percy he has no idea. Percy is consistenly portrayed as a highly skilled swordsman, a lot of his victories rely on his water based abilities because he is fighting Gods and Titans, he needs some kind of edge. I still maintain that CoA Percy wipes the floor with Soldier Kaladin and gives Radiant Kaladin a good match but ultimately loses because he cant fly.

I don't think people are giving Percy enough credit here. I think most of the question actually hinges about how Percy and his gear translates to the Cosmere. If his "Demigod son of Poseidon" status makes him fairly heavily invested and Riptide is invested enough to block a Shardblade then we have ourselves a match against Soldier Kaladin and probably Radiant Kaladin too. Kaladin is extremely skilled with a spear but Percy is no slouch with the sword either. If he is invested enough then he cant be directly lashed either which makes a huge difference. If he has the Curse of Achilles he gains increased speed, agility and strength as well as becoming essentially invulnerable. I think 3rd ideal Kaladin would beat Curse of Achilles Percy if they were fighting on the Shatteted plains but I doubt it'd be as simple as people seem to think, and CoA Percy would wipe the floor with Soldier Kaladin. And if they fought near some water...

It's possible I suppose but the Heralds and the Returned are also cognitive shadows and both noticeably NOT of Odium. Now that doesnt mean the other 3 types you mentioned aren't only that there are other possibilities. We also know next to nothing about Svrakiss. Everything we know about them is from a biased in world source. Much how Vorinism on Roshar teaches that the Dawnsingers were "kindly Spren" when they were in fact the Parsh People, the Svrakiss could be almost anything, even something good, that the Derethi have villainized. That said it is an interesting connection that the worlds Odium has visited could have something in common even though he has left. I wonder if there are any other connections.

Sadly I'm not sure that would work The Chasmfiend only exists as it does because its spren bonds make it capable of bearing its own weight. If if dies, the spren leave and making it lifeless would give you a massive reanimated corpse with limbs that couldnt actually carry its own body. I suppose if you gave it enough breath it might work...

Actually if I remember correcrly in M:SH it is stated that Ati always believed in the importance and inevitibility of change. I personally doubt a connection between the original 16 shardholders and the intents of their shards but from what little we know of their pre-shattering personalities, it could work.
-
Yeah I had just assumed it was Aluminium which would explain the price since I imagine there isnt much of it about in the cognitive realm and it has so many potential uses. Maybe the RAFO is about how it got there?

As far as I can tell the only confirmed use of Shardplate by protagonists outside of the flashbacks is the Re-Shephir fight as mentioned previously. I think it was less a conscious decision by Brandon to set up the reveal in the next book and more a consequence of the way the plot went. Between the infiltration of Kholinar requiring stealth it took Adolins plate out of the equation and since we dont see any of the radiants with it they wouldnt be be able to fight with it. This doesnt necessarily mean none of them have it. There are hints that Shallan (mentioned above) and Jasnah have their plate already and have used it but its left ambiguous.

I think the size of their gem hearts limits their voidlight expenditure. In the Battle for Thaylen City both Kal and Szeth comment that the fused are more skilled with surges than they are no doubt due to centuries of practice. Kal also mentions they cant accelerate as fast as he can, probably due to not having enough voidlight at any one time to pile lashings on top of each other like Kaladin does. So fused have more skill and never run out of Voidlight but Radiants can use more at once as long as they have the gems/Dalinar available.

Oh she wants to have the ship and go travelling, she may even do it. But she will do it despite being paraplegic, she seems to have accepted it and is carrying on anyway. This is in a direct contrast to Hobber who never really seemed yo get over it amd wad therefore unhealable.
