  1. I am aware Jasnah could transform all 10 essences, the point I wanted to make is that people still believed she had a real soulcaster. Since she used it so often in public I would assume she was careful to follow the rules as if she had a real fabrial, or the ardents may have started to query too much. I'm not sure if Savantism plays a part in it, Kaza is definitely a Savant but she also thinks she is limited to 1 essence due to her soulcaster only having 1 "mode". I am sure she would have noticed if the limitation was more recent. Now that I think about it Shallan mentions in WoK that most Soulcasters are limited to only a few transformations but there are some greater ones, as Jasnahs is believed to be. I am not sure what the difference is though as the descriptions are the same, physically speaking.
  2. I know this is hardly definitive since it turned out to be fake, but in WoK Shallan is thinking about Jasnahs soulcaster and mentions that as it is attuned to 3 essences (has 3 gemstones) but should be able to create any. I had assumed Kaza's soulcaster is less powerful (1 gemstone maybe?) And was therefore attuned to only 1 essence Slight issue with this idea being I'm not sure how a soulcaster attuned to 3 essences like Jasnahs could make them all.
  3. I see what everyone is saying. When I first read that scene it never bothered me, after all Adolin did the "hard work", its not as if Kal actually had to break the armor of the two he beat. (the lighteyes opinion, not mine) But there should still have been more chatter. Maybe there was but due to various reasons already stated, Kal in prison, no bridge 4 PoV etc we just missed it.
  4. Kaladin definitely fought 2 at once. I'm not sure how to quote the books here but he is fighting Jakamav and Relis and the same time, which stops when Adolin jumps on Jakamav and Relis runs for Renarin. As for why the general public didnt seem to care, I expect its because apart from some strikes where the plate was already gone/weakened all he did was distract and dodge. From their point of view it showed skill, but was hardly spectacular.
  5. Oh yeah he could definitely do it, I was more objecting to the word "moderate". On another note, how many people do we think are needed for it to class as a "whole mercantile system"? It may be that there were only a few importers/exporters actually involved. Something kind of lightweaving, either natural or technological, could then account for why none of the guards were aware.
  6. I don't have time to do the maths right now but I feel like running across any body of water big enough to be called and ocean would require more than a moderate amount if speed. Doesnt really matter though, even if the Lord Ruler could make it to the south I doubt he did it with any regularity, so he could hardly make it part of a mercantile system.
  7. I believe Kelsier was only ever recognised as the Lord Ruler by Northeners. And even that was purely based on the fact he told the Southerners that he had been King and God to the people in the North. I can't think of anything in the books that suggests the southerners had any contact with Rashek.
  8. I think we can probably rule out the southern continent as a source of trade goods. Since there were no shardpools in the southern continent IIRC our merchant worldhopper would have needed to cross the sea when the temperatures at the equator were so high that the oceans were literally boiling. Possible, but I doubt enough people have the desire or the means to do so often enough for it to be classed as its own mercantile system. Gemstones are a possibility though, good call.
  9. While I completely agree with the principle that a Larkin couldn't drain Nightblood, I would like to point out that nightblood requires contact whereas the Larkin doesnt. So at least the Larkin could try and fail in relative safety.
  10. I'd always thought he was talking more about the logistics of trading rather than any particular product. Afterall countries on earth trade for everything I never felt the product being shipped off world was in any way special. Since Kelsier had made it impossible to worldhop via the pits then it would have made ANY kind of trade almost impossible, potentially destroying a mercantile system. I doubt your average worldhopping merchant would be willing to pull a Hoid and use the well since ruin was still focussed there at that point. I guess I need to go back and look for what the actual import/export could be.
  11. I haven't seen the WoB about the investiture bubble so I can't be too sure, but I think a case could be made that if it does influence the wearer using allomancy, it would depend on the metal being used. For example, I think it is plausible that the plate would interfere with external metals but not internal ones. It could also be easier to use allomancy if it is your own suit, as opposed to a "dead" set of plate depending on which origin theory of plate you subscribe to.
  12. Hey, I lurk a lot but have never actually posted. Do we have any WoB on how emotional allomancy would interact with plate? I understand that such a highly invested object would help to insulate someone against lashings and other similar manifestations of investiture, but to my mind brass/zinc allomancy would work on a similiar principal to the thrill, since both influence emotions. And we know people wearing plate still feel the thrill.
