  1. It generally is, but you can do that by just tapping Fortune. But it's hard to say how that would look in the Seer's eyes. I believe it's the latter. Yes. That's true, but you burn electrum only in specific situations, like when fighting. You can still tap Fortune when you don't burn electrum - which is most of the time. True, that's possible too. I believe that because Atium/electrum peers into SR, your soul see those shadows all around you, but without visual aid you can't comprehend it normally - that's where Atium's mental boosts come, this is something additional that allows you to process information directly from the SR, something that electrum lacks. He can always throw himself and the chair on the ground, so yes they would interfere. They would always interfere - he can just talk, do puppy eyes, try to seduce his adversary etc. There are a lot of options, there are a lot of interactions that can be done. But I don't think it's about interactions, it's just about seeing the future, even if you can't do anything about it, it will still mess up the other person's future sight. Even the most unlikely possibility imaginable will split the shadow. I agree.
  2. Hello, welcome to the Shard. Check out Sharder FAQ for some useful hints. This seems unlikely. Metallic Arts are generally hard to fuel by external sources. Lift metabolizes food into Lifelight directly, which is keyed to Cultivation. This most likely will prevent her from using it to fuel Allomancy, if she were to have it. WoBs seems to all agree that it would take some extra work for Rosharan light to fuel Allomancy - just having it is not enough. I believe it would work if you were to unkey the light, just like unkeyed Dor can fuel other Invested Arts - but Lift has no means of unkeying her Lifelight. WoBs:
  3. I agree, it's not about the fight itself. In my opinion it's about forcing Dalinar to break the terms and get rid of the content entirely and be free of Honor's restrictions.
  4. It must be a willing champion, Taln can't give his consent. RoW ch 112: However, in Odium's best interest is to avoid fighting Taln at all costs. Even in his less ideal state, Taln caught darts mid-air like it was nothing. It only takes a Radiant swearing an Oath near Taln during the Contest for Taln to regain his sanity for long enough to mop the floor with Odium's champion.
  5. I haven't read that theory yet, but nobody has to be sent into the SR - after a person dies it leaves behind the corpse of his spirit web in the Spiritual Realm. So yes, those spirit webs of Tien or Evi are still in the Spiritual Realm. But this is separate from the afterlife - the Beyond. We won't even know if the Beyond exists in Cosmere. Possible. However, it can't be the whole Honor, Honor is Splintered into pieces, each piece is separate and the Stormfather is Connected to some of those pieces. It can be only one of those pieces. Still, it's possible. Yes to both. They are forming a new bond, new Ideals have to be spoken, lived by and accepted.
  6. Hello, welcome to the Shard. Because you need gold. A lot of gold. Like a ton of gold to survive an explosion like this. Even Miles struggled with his gold supply and had to steal all that gold when he was kidnapping people. But to actually accumulate needed health, you need to burn that gold with stored health in it - that takes time. Compounding isn't instantaneous. Wayne would need to spend a lot of time burning his metalmind to gather all the health needed to survive such an explosion. And Wayne had both no gold and no time. An explosion of such magnitude would generate so much heat that it would instantly vaporize him and his gold - there was no way for Wayne to survive it. I’ve guesstimated this explosion was comparable to the 2020 Beirut explosion, which had a yield of around 1kt. Wayne was gone faster than he could have thought of even tapping metalminds.
  7. I capitalized W in Winds because it was capitalized in ch 2 epigraphs. That's important. Winds are treated as a person, as something alive. That's why it's unlikely Shallan is the author because she knows nothing about Winds.
  8. But she doesn't really know Winds like Kaladin does.
  9. No, he needs a strong Connection. In RoW he used Moash's Connection to Kaladin to send him vision, but he didn't talk to him. I highly doubt this is Odium again. RoW I-4: Unless the winds on Roshar became sentient after Honor's death and they are separate from the Stormfather! True, but Navani didn't talk to him a lot, Dalinar on the other hand already gave him commands.
  10. I had the same thought, but I'm worried that it's too predictable and it's not Kaladin. In OB we had quotes from Oathbringer written by Dalinar, in RoW it was written by Navani, so sure, Kaladin can write a book for WaT - but as he is right now he can't write at all. And it would be a weird coincidence for epigraphs to tell "I was being watched" in the same chapter Kaladin hears a voice in his head for the first time. It may be some book from the past (like WoK and WoR), but for now it doesn't feel like this.
  11. It doesn't have to know it, but it certainly knows something is out of ordinary. So, what do we know about things being able to speak into minds? My brain isn't working very well today, but I think that Ruin could speak into the minds of people that had spikes, or were mentally unstable enough, but I don't think he could hear their thoughts? Would Tanavast's CS have that ability? Why would it have that ability? It's no longer got the juice of a Shard behind it. Whoever was talking to Gavilar also couldn't seem to read his mind. This leads me further from Tanavast being the voice. Considering Stormfather has melded with Tanavast, and Stormfather can't read the mind of Gavilar, or Dalinar from what I can remember.... and the voice says "come to me" right after Kaladin thinks about going to Shinovar for Dalinar, and the voice says to listen to the Bondsmith. We "know" that the CS of Tanavast merged with the Stormfather somehow, so I don't see how going to Shinovar would be "coming" to Tanavast. Yes, Ruin can only speak, Preservation can only listen, Harmony can do both. Autonomy can talk to those spiked with Trellium, but they can mostly speak to her Avatars, not her personally. Endowment talks to them after death (like Leras and Sazed, but that's after death, which is different). But for a Shard to talk to them a Connection is needed - Odium can do that in an Everstorm (just like the Stormfather), Cultivation can do that in the Valley. Once there is enough Connection, they can talk when they want - like Odium doesn't need an Everstorm anymore to talk to Dalinar, Vyre or Taravangian. Tanavast? That's more complicated. We know Kelsier as CS was able to speak to those mentally unstable and even those who were spiked, just like Ruin - and that was before he became Preservation. Vin as Preservation was able to speak to Eland, just like Kel as Preservation could speak to Spook. Connection is needed, that's for sure. Kaladin has some special Connection with Tanavast and his soul is most definitely cracked because of his traumatic past and depression - one can speak to him from CR, like Kelsier did before Ascension, or like Kelsier as Preservation did to Spook if they have strong enough Connection. But Tanavast's CS was supposed to be merged with the Stormfather, so he shouldn't be just wandering around CR, he should be the Stormfather. So that's very weird because that wasn't the Stormfather. And there is this WoB, which said that we can assume there is no funny business going on with Tanavast, and that Tanavast is dead as of the start of WoK - he should be gone, he shouldn't be able to talk to Kaladin like this. On the other hand Brandon said he will definitely answer the question "is Honor dead" by the end of WoT. So Tanavast doing something like this is still on the table, but it would be weird for the Stormfather to be unaware of that. I can't really think of anyone else with a strong enough Connection to Kaladin to be able to talk to them like this. No Unmade was ever influential in his life - the same goes with any other Shard. It didn't sound like Tien and he's dead, which required special circumstances for them to "communicate." Syl was the only one I remember that kept asking him to try again back in WoK - but it wasn't her. The wind was always around Kaladin, always there helping him, giving him strength, protecting him - and winds are the domain of Honor, through association with the Stormfather. Tanavast still seems like the most likely candidate, even though there are some holes in this logic. The Sibling didn't pop up in Navani's mind, they talked through Dabbid who was using a Spanreed.
  12. This is confusing me too. I also thought it's Tanavast at first, it sounds like Harmony and Preservation, but that "come to me" threw me off-tracks. I don't know who it might be waiting for him in Shinovar. Sja-Anat maybe? She was the only one close to Taravangian in the moment of his Ascension to know he's the new Odium - but I don't think she can use wind to talk, she uses her spren for that. Ishar is mad, he doesn't talk like this and he shouldn't know about TOdium. Really, the only reasonable person left is Tanavast. After all, Kaladin is the Son of Tanavast, this has to come up eventually.
  13. Unsealed metalminds are unkeyed (have blanked identity), but at the same time have a little bit of identity of their own. They are little machines that give you powers instead. A person who's not a Feruchemist can't tap unkeyed metalmind. There needs to be something more done to it, for a non-Feruchemist to access them. A Malwish medallion works just like a Honorblade works - and Honorblade works by bonding a person who carries it. With all WoBs we have on this matter, we strongly suspect that a Medallion is partially self-aware (just like a Honorblade) and it bonds with a person who carries it, giving them Feruchemical powers through that bond, which allows them to tap unkeyed metalminds. It's more than just limitations in Stormlight access, though that's still important, an Honorblade doesn't bound its user with Ideals. Anyone who uses it is Unbound. Ideals bound Radiants to use their powers in accordance to their Oaths and their spren can even take away their powers if they aren't used this way. Syl did it to Kaladin in WoR ch 18: In Herald's hands, Honorblades are capable of more OB ch 16: I believe it's not the Feruchemical powers were being drained (they still worked like a Coppermind), it's Allomantic powers that were used up, as they were attributes stored in an unkeyed nicrosilmind. Those weren't given by the bond, they were being tapped. As for your theory, I agree. I think a Connector Ferring will be able to use multiple medallions, but I'm not sure if an aluminum Ferring would be able to do this as well. I don't think blanking your Identity will solve the problem of medallions' connections interfering with each other.
  14. I don't think there are different types of Fortune. Atium and Electrum work through Fortune but it doesn't mean they each have different kinds of it. I believe it's just the same Fortune but put in a different framework to create different effects. I believe if you were to store Fortune when burning Atium/electrum, you would simply not be able to see that far into the future, while tapping Fortune would extend your future vision further (just like adding more spikes with that power). Tapping Fortune stored from Atium when you're burning nothing shouldn't give you anything near the effect of Atium, just a normal, increased "gut feeling," because it lacks the framework of Atium. I don't think so, mental boost is separate from Fortune. However, we still know very little about Fortune and its interaction with Invested Arts and future sight in general, it's very hard to tell what you can do with it.
  15. Yes, it seems so. Lightspren chose Listeners specifically instead of humans. Timbre's friends are eager to bond Venli's companions - and this seems to be the will of many, if not all Lightspren. Lightapren don't trust humans at all, I doubt they will bond with them. RoW ch 67: RoW ch 109: RoW ch 115: OB ch 101:
  16. I believe so. And I believe we've seen this happening in WoA ch 59: He just swallowed a Lerasium bead, he became a Lerasium Mistborn which invested him significantly. But this could be just an effect of burning pewter and healing, not necessarily investiture. As Seekers? Not really. Seekers detect kinetic investiture. But they would be able to detect static investiture. However if they already have the perfect color recognition, they are 60% the way up to the perfect life sense (the 4th Heightening), which would allow them to recognize any innate investiture (even in grass). But even without 4th Heightening, their life sense is already quite good. Moreover the 1st Heightening allows you to recognize invested auras and judge how invested a person is. So you don't even need the 3rd Heightening, just the 1st one will suffice. Keep in mind, while a Radiant is naturally more invested due to their Nahel Bond, thus having much greater levels of innate investiture (enough so it can be mistaken for Heightening), breathing in Stormlight doesn't contribute a lot to their investiture levels. It's not a lot of investiture. Glowing is just a result of Stormlight leaking through pores of your skin. OB ch 97:
  17. It's just investiture, half of your soul is already made out of Ruin's power. It won't corrode you, it won't be unhealthy. Wax most likely already ingested some of that Mist, alongside Preservation's Mist, because they both appear post Catacendre. And no, I doubt this would change anything.
  18. By the time he opened his perpendicularity, the gemstone was probably already on one of the ships, far away from it. OB ch 120:
  19. It was dun. OB ch 120: Yes, Taravangian told him that. Full quote OB ch 100: That's an interesting question. I think for a spren as big as Nergaoul, draining the gemstone out of light isn't needed - they're just too massive and too invested for something like this to affect them. As for why a dun gemstone worked, the book said the Thrill wanted to take over Dalinar, to control him and to give him something in return - that's Connection being formed. This is something that no Firespren, or any other spren from fabrials does with people. The Thrill wasn't focused on the gemstone, it didn't go to inspect it, it was focused only on Dalinar. Dalinar let him into his mind, he accepted it, embraced it and lastly he understood the Thrill. And with this I think Dalinar was able to take over the Thrill instead and guide him into the gemstone with their Connection. He understood it and that gave him control over this Connection. It might not be a satisfying explanation, but I can't think of anything else. Note: this is not a Bondsmith exclusive method because a Lightweaver once trapped Re-Shephir in a gemstone too - this must be something everyone with sufficient Connection can do. OB ch 120:
  20. Yup, this quote. The Stormfather would lie for the same reason he sent a Highstorm during the battle of Narak at the end of WoR - to hide his own failure, this time with Gavilar. For me it's a foreshadowing that the Stormfather can lie.
  21. Visions are accurate, they aren't just approximations or metaphors (except for the last one from WoK), they are accurate - the WoB confirms it in the clearest way possible. Honor also confirmed it. You can't interrogate people within vision because they aren't alive, they don't have any soul, or mind - they are just a facade masquerading within the construct of the vision. But the events presented in visions are accurate. WoK ch 75: Because it happened 2,500 years ago, in an era where Radiants were a dominating society on the planet. The keep is long gone - Radiants are long gone as well. We know more or less where it is - near the city of Rall Elorim, which is in Iri. OB ch 85 epigraphs: Because it doesn't exist anymore. After 2,500 years??? With Highstorms coming every 5 days, covering everything under a layer of crem?? It's impossible. Any remains of the keep are probably covered entirely by crem, just like the Stormset (Narak) is covered - so much crem that the ground level is now on the 2nd floor of Narak's original buildings. And don't make me start talking about bodies Yes, a Shard can focus on multiple places at the same time and yes, Odium can see things happening on Roshar while he's imprisoned on Braize (and he saw everything Dalinar did, he was there with him), because he's bound to the entire solar system with some restrictions added by the Oathpact (either directly or by the lack of his agents). It was a Desolation - the False Desolation. A time when Ba-Ado-Mishram - an Unmade - got bored waiting for Odium to return with his Fused and decided to start her own Desolation. She Connected herself to almost every Singer and granted them forms of power, starting the False Desolation. However there were no Fused and no Odium command. The Recreance and the event at the Feverstone Keep happened at the end of it, after BAM was imprisoned. RoW ch 73: I do agree fully with this point. And I do agree they are in Shinovar.
  22. That would be so funny. Love this idea! But seriously, Nightblood isn't capable of consuming an entire planet, he would get full really, really fast. He can eat a lot, but he has a limit of how much he can fit in him. He's already supersaturated with investiture and has not much space left. We've seen him getting full in RoW, when Taravangian used him - he fell into a food coma state and stopped consuming investiture. The same would be true if everyone tried to feed an entire planet to Nightblood. And sure, Canticle is a really small planet - too small to be a planet - but it's massively invested enough to generate Earth-like gravity. Nightblood isn't anywhere near that invested and he can't fit anything more into him. However, if dropped into the planet perfectly storming vertically, he should be able to eventually end up in the planet's core. Unlike Shardblade, which only cuts where its edge is and can be stopped by a force applied to its flat sides, Nightblood consumes everything that touches his blade. Cheese won't stop him. He can only be stopped if his handle gets stuck on some rocks, which is very likely because the handle is wider than the blade itself. So while he has some real potential to end up in the core of a planet, he would probably get stuck by his handle somewhere along the way, with his blade being unable to touch anything. We know that Canticle was made like this for a specific reason by some powerful entity in Cosmere and its not the only one of its kind. The most liked theory is that it's Invention's invention. WoBs:
  23. I don't think so, this is the result of Ruin's subservient nature, which is reflected by changes done to Hemalurgy. I don't believe a simple Connection trick can overcome this Shardic problem.
  24. Yes, Honor can be picked up and even fully restored. And yes, Odium did that to Ambition, Devotion and Dominion, but it seems like he wasn't able to do the same he did to them to prevent someone else from Ascending to Honor (probably because he's chained by Honor's restrictions).
