Yes, it would cause some disturbance in Atium shadows, most likely splitting them as your own future becomes uncertain as you have a better feeling of what will happen in the future and can react to it. It would be like if you were to burn Atium yourself. Yes it would have some effect. Likely. A-electrum and A-Atium use Fortune to show the future, so manipulating your own Fortune should have the same effect as being stronger/weaker Allomancer in those metals. Or at least would help you or "numb" your shadows. There would be an effect, but definitely not in the range of minutes or hours. Storing all your Fortune might have the opposite effect of what you're proposing - you would be able to see very shortly into the future, less than normally, less then a second, and your electrum shadows would be mostly useless for predicting the future. By tapping Fortune you would see further into the future, several seconds into it. Likely if you compound Fortune while burning those metals, you might reach the point when you peer directly into the Spiritual Realm, just like it can be achieved by burning duralumin with Atium, which you saw at the end of HoA, which allowed Elend to see Preservation's plan.

Does Lumar have a perpendicularity? (SP1 spoilers)
alder24 replied to Authorspren's question in Cosmere Q&A
I don't see those WoBs as mutually exclusive, rather the new one expanding on the old one. The space in CR is highly dependent on actual minds present in PR, not just perception. Perception matters, but the amount of thinking life present in that space matters even more, and there would still be no life present in the space. Some space stations will pop up, but while the distance in general will grow, because people will start thinking about the vastness of space, it won't become hugely inconvenient (from a few steps to a few weeks/months of travel or something like that - it will grow). You saw the space in between planets in SH - it's obsidian ground. -
Tbf we still don't know which "anybody" Brandon meant when he said "god metals should be burnable by anybody" - every Allomancer, every Scadrian (Atium and Lerasium) or everybody in Cosmere? There are WoBs that say Mistborn won't be able to burn a Shardblade because he lacks ties to it, or that it would be very hard, or that Mistborn burning Lerasium would have a different effect than granting Allomancy. To me it seems that only those connected to a Shard can burn its god metal, or even only Allomancers of any type can do it (he plans to make every Misting able to burn Atium in movies). I think it's very likely that the ability to burn god metals comes from a person and his connections, not from a god metal itself.

Or it isn't working because Cultivation is all about change, not stasis. Or Lift asked for something else, just like Dalinar asked for forgiveness instead of taking away his pain, and the memory of this was taken away from her like from Dalinar and Taravangian. That wouldn't work like that. Investiture resist investiture, she would have to be massively invested to resist a Shard influence but all of that wouldn't matter anymore if she Ascend to a Shard. If it was like you're proposing then how is she changing then? Why was she able to bond a spren if she "can’t be influenced by outside forces"? Why did suppression fabrial partially work on her and she lost her powers? Moreover Taravangian didn't seem so dumb when he Ascended, he actually seemed awfully smart, as he immediately spotted a loophole in a contract. It looks like a bone and curse stop affecting him as soon as he Ascended, which makes sense, as a tiny fraction of Cultivation's power won't hold up against a full, infinite power of a Shard. I think Cultivation made Lift more susceptible to self-perception and gave her the ability to heal and generate Lifelight. Her appearance is now strongly filtered by her self-perception in the same way that's happening to some Cognitive Shadows, and she subconsciously heals herself to that self-image. She definitely can be influenced by other forces - a Nahel Bond is an outside influence, which changed her. Both Dalinar and Taravangian did receive a curse - Dalinar's curse was that he will lose Evi but his memories will return one day. Taravangian’s one was that he can't have both intelligence and compassion together. I see no reason why Lift wouldn't have a curse as well - not as obvious like when other people met Nightwatcher, but still a curse. OB ch 114: Please either delete spoilers from your post or put them in a spoiler box with a warning - this is a SA subforum only. No spoilers outside of SA are allowed here without a spoiler box. Mistborn spoilers: Brandon did confirm that Jasnah would be a good candidate to control Odium - it might be hard for Jasnah to become Odium, but once she Ascends, she will control it, even with forced Connection. As we saw from Taravangian's Ascension, he was constantly overwhelmed by Odium's emotional urge to burn and destroy - he was able to control it and give himself a different purpose, so could Jasnah with her experience of controlling her emotions. Holding a Shard is a contest of wills, and both Jasnah and Taravangian have a really strong will. I'm not saying that she will Ascend to Odium, only that she would be able to control it well, just like the WoB said. Why would an Edgedancer be a better candidate when they are all about compassion, not hatred? Keep in mind Rayse claimed to be Passion, that was his interpretation of Odium's intent, which the power resisted. Someone new can have a different, better interpretation of Shard's intent, which the power will accept. Just because Rayse called it Passion, doesn't mean that being passionate is necessary to Ascend and control the Shard. Mistborn spoiler WoB:

Does Lumar have a perpendicularity? (SP1 spoilers)
alder24 replied to Authorspren's question in Cosmere Q&A
Did you read SP 3? Hoid likely has either a spaceship or his own way of traveling between realms and worlds. Lightweavers can enter CR on their own, so Hoid needs just a way to exit. There are many ways to access CR. But this story takes place in the far future, there are several nations capable of FTL - I think the most reasonable assumption is that they establish interplanetary trade routes in PR and Hoid just used their ship to reach Lumar. This is supported by Lumarans calling worldhoppers as "visitors from the stars" - they certainly came to Lumar on a spaceship. Large concentration of investiture can indeed spawn a perpendicularity but you need a lot to achieve that. Aethers' spores are invested, but the investiture density in Aethers' spores seem to be quite low. I doubt Lumar has a perpendicularity. And a perpendicularity on Lumar's moons won't help to get on Lumar. Regarding the second question, yes, the interplanetary space in CR will grow because of human presence and perception of it. But that change won't be that big. New places might spawn (like space stations) but the scale of it won't be that troublesome. -
I don't think so. Allomancy comes only from Preservation, but Feruchemy comes from both Ruin and Preservation. We know Scadrians were created by both Ruin and Preservation together, I have no doubts that Terrisans were created by them as well (their religion basically confirmed this). Allomancy genes interfere with Feruchemy, and no Terrisan was snapped, because those powers both partially come from the same place in the spirit web - Preservation's fragment. But Feruchemy probably needs something more, probably a connection to Ruin as well. If Preservation gave those people Feruchemy, then why didn't he give it equally to all Scadrians? Why only a certain nation have them, which remained isolated for maybe even 11000 years? That doesn't make any sense. That's why I don't think Preservation was involved (Ruin would likely not allow Preservation to do that, they both would have to grant Feruchemy in the moment of creation). I think the most probable explanation is that one of the previous Hero of Ages used the power of the Well to grant him and his "friends" Feruchemy - and those people later formed the Terris nation. Because the power had to be used for something, and the holder of the power would get an intuitive understanding of all metallic arts. If the power of the Well was not used then at some point someone must have found a way to use god metals to grant Feruchemy to himself. The big part is that EVERY Scadrian has the Seed for Allomancy and Feruchemy - even those placed on the south pole by Rashek, who never had those powers, had them and have potential for becoming a Metalborn. That seed is Preservation's fragment. Terris prophecies came from Preservation but were changed by Ruin over time. The source is known to us. And we don't know what Harmony knows. He very likely knows the origins of those powers. This, you need to delete this. This is a Mistborn forum only, spoilers outside of Mistborn are not allowed here outside of the spoiler box.
-
That's different, those were Snapped by Mists when the Well was close to being filled. Feruchemy has no mechanism like that except genetics. We don't know how it started. They still needed that first Connection to jump start the whole population of Feruchemists, just like all modern Mistborn are descendants of the very first Lerasium Mistborn. Something must have created the very first Feruchemist and we don't know what it was, but it must have been limited so that only his descendants - Terrisans - carried those genes.
-
Oh, yeah, I'm really glad to have you back. That's the combination I haven't thought about. It sounds really cool and you have duralumin powered Allomancy at the reach of your hand.

You don't need to put that in a spoiler box, we're in the Mistborn forum, you put things outside of the Mistborn books in spoiler boxes, like SA. Most of Reen's voices were said by Ruin, we already had the idea that something can talk to people and those voices were written in a way to make them different from simple thoughts, specifically to make a reader question who is talking to characters. The dream Spook had after saving the city was the biggest clue that that wasn't a simple imagination. We even had Vin talking to Elend as Preservation, so it was obvious at that point that someone other than Ruin was talking to Spook and Vin in moments when they didn't have spikes. And just because the Secret History wasn't written yet, doesn't mean that Brandon hadn't had all of that planned already - he had, he knew what was going to happen, that Kelsier will be talking to them from CR, and that he will Ascend to Preservation. That's why those clues are there, for us to realize that Kelsier is talking to them, in the same way Reen's voice was revealed to be Ruin's voice. After reading SH, it's simply a must to go back and reread at least HoA, to see those moments from Vin and Spook's perspective. There was no third god, the "voices" of Kelsier that weren't from Kelsier were either of Ruin or just imagination. Marasi said that even the Words of Funding said that Kel Ascended - that was said by Sazed, that was a fact, not a religious doctrine. SoS ch 14: For more nerdy readers the hints were there to realize that Kelsier is alive somehow. But it's fine if people didn't make those connections. The surprise at the end of BoM was still great and it was quickly followed by SH, which explained how he survived and what he was doing, and gave us hints on how he got his body back (because we clearly saw him in his body with a spike in his eye in BoM). It's fine if you have a different opinion on that revelation. I disagree that more hints were needed. While reading BoM I knew Kelsier is alive, but still was totally surprised by his appearance in the book, which left me wondering how he got his body back. I'm glad we didn't get the answer in TLM, as I'm far more excited about the mystery surrounding Kelsier, which is far more engaging than simply getting the answer immediately. Kelsier in BoM served almost no purpose other than shock value, that's why I disagree that it was like deus ex machina. But technically he is alive because of deus ex machina - a god made him survive his own death. You're not that far away from the truth. There is always another secret... I disagree. I didn't expect Kelsier to have such a big role in TLM as he had, because Era 2 is not about him. He isn't important to characters or the plot. Having more of him would just distract us from Wax, Wayne and Marasi. I'm content with the role he played and that was a teaser about the incoming Era 3, which working title is "Ghostbloods". Era 3 is about Kelsier, and the answers will come to us then. If everything important was just revealed in TLM, there would be no anticipation for Era 3, as we would already have all the answers. Brandon has to leave something out of books to include them in future books, making them better, and I think he's doing a great job in distributing information. There was already a massive amount of new information given to us in TLM, especially the revelation about the new Hemalurgic process, bringing back both Lerasium and Atium, and Harmony turning into Discord. Ghostbloods and Kelsier were just a cherry on the cake. It served its purpose, because you want more. Nah, we're just nerds. We always want more and more. Moreover Cosmere is getting more and more relevant in Brandon's books - WoBs and annotation are the easiest way to clear up any confusion, which doesn't require you to read all of Brandon's books or to have a Silverlight Master degree in Cosmerology. It's a simple tool. You definitely should read Mistborn annotation, there is a lot of really useful information, and great explanations that simply couldn't exist in books.

@Firesong I've missed this topic. My bad. I love your worlds and let's dive into this one. Ok, I should have started reading the whole section before commenting as you explained all my nitpicks a bit lower in your description. That was a very fascinating world, as always. I love the idea of giant titans on which humans live and the addictive magic and the one that makes somebody transcend reality. The origins of this world are also cool and the idea of the corpse of the god visible on the sky but unreachable (I think) is so cool. I love those details.

@therunner brought up great points, that makes a lot of sense. I think you could use pure Dor to fuel F-Atium if you first key it to the attribute of youthfulness.

Because Ruin created Scadrial, half of it is literally made out of his investiture, and thus he has far greater control over it than Odium who just recently invested in one place, that existed before Odium came to be.
-
Glad to have you back! Yes: Either he doesn't know that's possible with Feruchemy or there are some obstacles that prevent it from working that easily - like maybe you need to key it to the specific metal/attribute?

You don't need to be the embodiment of emotions to Ascend to Odium. You need to be sufficiently Connected and you need to understand the nature of the Shard to Ascend. Jasnah certainly had her emotional moments, especially with Amaram, which clearly included hatred - she still feels emotion, just doesn't show them or let them control her. That's different from not feeling anything at all. Connection to the Shard can be made with different means other than emotions, Bondsmith can forge/strengthen it for example. What is her boon? How would it make her impervious to Shard's influence? She is changing and growing up. And I doubt a boon and curse is enough to resist the full power of the Shard. Taravangian certainly seemed to be extremely intelligent when he took the Shard, and that was on his day of passion - I think that proves boon and curse stops working after Ascension.
-
Yes, yes, and yes. Those things work on similar principles. They are interchangeable. Life sense from Breaths also works similar to A-bronze but detects different types of investiture (innate, while A-bronze detects kinetic). A-copper is that protection of Aviars you've mentioned, and Sak's future sight abilities are similar to those from Roshar, Scadrial and Nalthis. It's all connected.

I don't think they've said they are breeding greatshells to have bigger gemhearts, Shallan was talking about alternatives to chrysalis hunts. Chulls are bred but those aren't greatshells. From Coppermind:

Not really. Nayana sings the song in the Rhythm of Progression, but the "lyrics" differ among different Nayanas. Others simply hear her. But their heartbeat is synchronized to one particular note from her song, even the tree's heartbeat. Each species is synchronized to a different repeating note. There isn't any special place. Where they want I guess. Close to one of the trees but not too close? I've described a hovercraft made out of this metal tech that can maintain its own small bubble of atmosphere and pushes itself up from the ice. They use this to travel and trade. I think it was keyed to Adonalsium. It's kind of hard to write something when you lack the middle part and you aren't good with characters Right now it goes straight from the prologue to the finale. For now it's in my head (Ghostbloods are involved ).

Because Parshendi at the Tower wanted to slaughter as many Alethi as possible, crippling them in the long run, forcing them to the negotiating table. Soldiers are resources in war. This is the war of attrition. Parshendi had two options, face extermination or force them to talk - the second one can be done by killing as many Alethi as possible to exhaust them, and that's what they were doing. By denying them battles Alethi would not be willing to talk, and if they wouldn't just stay in their camps, they would try a different tactic, like advancing into the center - but this time all united, because Parshendi took all gemhearts, and every Alethi Prince wants them. In that case they face extermination. The battle of the Tower is exactly the opposite of what you're talking about - the terrain and proximity is highly favorable to Parshendi, they can take larger forces and Alethi have much more distance to cover, which makes them tired before the battle. The slope of the Tower makes it hard for Alethi to advance and there is only one or two plateaus from which they can get on the Tower. It's the perfect battle for Parshendi to take, and those are the reasons why Alethi were never able to win at the Tower, and why they've always suffered heavy casualties, greater than Parshendi. It's the battle Parshendi can take without worrying too much. Perfect to inflict heavy losses. And that’s why Parshendi even stopped thinking about chrysalis during the Battle of the Tower at the end of WoK - they were doing so well that the gemheart simply stopped mattering. Not every time. During WoK it was often remarked by Kaladin that Sadeas suffered high losses or lost a battle. Parshendi weren't at disadvantage. If they were to secure the plateau first, they would have a huge advantage over Alethi, as they have to cross through bridges which are their choke points. Parshendi can inflict high casualties even despite Shardbearers presence. Once Sadeas was almost killed, another time at the Tower Dalinar and Adolin with their whole army were almost killed - those were the opportunities for Parshendi to shift the war in their favor. Parshendi need to kill Alethi to have any hopes for peace. They have to fight. Of course on many occasions Alethi arrived too late and Parshendi already extracted a gemheart and left without a battle. But if they arrived more or less at the same time, fighting is the best they could do to sue for peace. It's the war of attrition, you need to make your enemy suffer to make him willing to negotiate at all. Forcing your Shardbearer join every single battle would be extremely exhausting for her, and would certainly lead to her death. Parshendi had already lost every Shard except those Eshonai had, they couldn't allow to lose those too. Eventually Alethi would have punched through Parshendi lines when she would have been extracting the gemstone, unable to fight - in those minutes several Alethi Shardbearers would be standing in front of her and she would have to fight them all. That's not a good tactic. She couldn't do it every battle.

I don't know if they work like in Allomancy, that doesn't feel right to me. But they do something with time. No, she doesn't communicate with people. One repetition of Nayana's song is a day. Different fragments of the song correspond to different times of the day. No moon. There is a small group of Sho Del in CR responsible for interCosmere trade and visitation - they open a Perpendicularity from time to time, very rarely however - once a year or so. Sho Del on Esma doesn't really care about wider Cosmere so they don't bother with Perpendicularities. They can communicate between realms - like some tech phone or something like that. Yes. They actively travel and trade between different Trees, have some long distance communication lines established (magic phones or something like that). They have video and TV too. Not internet but still enough to keep in touch with other tree-cities. No, An-Neruna is keyed to Progression. No. Sho Del could use their magic to grow the tree and keep it alive longer, but that's not enough, it would die sooner or later. It needs water, minerals and nutrients. I don't know if I ever write it, I'm not a good storyteller It has the beginning and the end, but not a middle part. It's in my mind with many other things and I don't know if I ever write it down. Hard maybe.

A Divine Breath is nothing compared to the power that Stormfather holds, not to mention a full Shard. It won't change anything. Tanavast is dead and gone. He ain't coming back. Plus a Divine Breath can't bring the dead back to life. Long after. Honor was Splintered around 2500 years before WoK, around the time of Recreance, Warbreaker takes place only "few generations" before WoK, and Vasher was one of the Five Scholars, he was around 300 years old by the time of Warbreaker. Those events are not aligned. Tanavast wasn't close with Edgli, he was close with Koravellium Avast, the Vessel of Cultivation:

We had those hits. All along HoA, they were there. Kelsier was speaking to Vin and Spook, and it was hinted to us he's alive. In one of the Era 2 books it was said that Kelsier held Preservation after Leras death but before Vin Ascension - we knew he was alive and doing stuff in Cognitive Realm. It wasn't a surprise for those paying attention. And how he got his body wasn’t a surprise either - SH hinted to us that he wants his body back. TLM didn't have to explain to us anything about Kelsier's condition, because it was all already explained and it was hinted that he will get a body back. What you asked for was already in books. HoA Annotations:
-
Because by the time of WoK Parshendi had lost all of their Shards and Eshonai was their only Shardbearer. I doubt she participated in every plateau run. Secondly it would exposed their Shardbearer to enemy attacks - as soon as Alethi would have spotted Eshonai, they would have thrown everything to get to her - and that include several Shardbearers which would quickly smashed through Parshendi lines and get to her to take her Shards. Losing last Shards would be a huge blow for Parshendi. In most battles they had to fight for access to chrysalis first, and that was challenging. Instead of risking their only Shardbearer, and with that any chances for survival of their people, Eshonai was in reserves, ready to jump in in case their forces got surrounded and were in dire need of help. And that was a war of attrition, I don't think that Parshendi knew why Alethi wanted gemstones, they just reacted to their hunts for chrysalis, and thought Alethi hunted for gemstones because of their greed. By Parshendi tactics, killing as many humans as possible would exhaust their numbers and morale and eventually bring them to peace talks, which was a successful tactic, as Dalinar was willing to do everything to end the war, and willing to negotiate. But despite all risks, Parshendi were using Eshonai to extract gemhearts, WoR ch 26:
-
Yes, it's because of RoW that I think they are sapient. A Chasmfiend seemed to protect Timbre and decided that Eshonai is worthy to bond with her. The ending of RoW is another thing - a Chasmfiend saved Listeners when two storms hit and protected them ever since. I think those are big signs of sapience. Ryshadium also is sapient, Khriss in Arcanum Unbounded calls them like that. Or at least both of them are above animal level intelligence, closing in on human level intelligence, nearly sapient, which in my opinion would make it morally questionable to treat them like that.
