What essence marks would be useful?
Authorspren replied to Elite01's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
The best Essence Mark is just that enchanting trick from Skyrim. Create an Essence Mark to make yourself slightly better at Forgery, which would allow you to create a better Essence Mark, which would be used to make yourself slightly better at Forgery...- 17 replies

I saw that there was a topic about other authors writing Cosmere novels, so we're doing the opposite. What if Brandon Sanderson wrote other authors' books or movies? Here's a couple examples: Harry Potter: The magic system of the world would be more defined and be related to the number four, with unique magic arts corresponding to each Hogwarts house. Every wizard would only be talented in one type of magic, giving them limits to their power. Harry would have the same "Boy who Lived" backstory, although the reasons for his survival would be more than just plot armor. He'd also have actual trauma from being an orphan raised by an abusive family, and this would have consequences for the plot. The Wizard of Oz: Dorothy would be a normal girl who accidentally Worldhopped to a strange planet with a pair of Invested shoes. She'd be fully aware of the powers of her Invested shoes but have no idea how to control them. The Wizard would be a helpful scholar with no actual abilities who helps teach Dorothy about the shoes, and the Wicked Witch of the West would be an Invested tyrant looking to steal the shoes' power.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Authorspren replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
YKYASF when you make a Sanderson reference only for no one to understand what you're talking about. -
Well actually *puts on roasting voice* yo momma so fat she is the Surge of Gravitation, so she pulls the planet toward her. In all seriousness, fair point.

When Nomad enters the Scadrian research vessel, he sees a jar of purified Dor. This Dor is obviously meant to be used as a source of Investiture for the Scadrians. As far as we know, this was first discovered and brought to Scadrial by Kelsier, or at least one of the Ghostbloods. It's not too crazy to imagine that the Ghostbloods released this technology to Scadrial, or at least to the military research program, given that their goal is to protect Scadrial. However, there is a slight problem. Mraize and the Rosharan Ghostbloods had the goal of exporting Stormlight off of Roshar for portable Investiture. Stormlight is far more accessible than the Dor, probably easier to carry, and probably able to be taken off-world by the space age. So why on earth would the Scadrians be using purified Dor instead of Stormlight?

Be a regular person, until you get taken by the Shaod. Now you have immortality and AonDor. Spend a few years mastering it so you know how to maintain your connection to the Dor while offworld. Spend more years mastering Aons. Use Aon Tia to teleport to Roshar. Figure out how to transport Stormlight and spren offworld. Honorblades are more convenient than spren bonds; no inconvenient Oaths to mess you up. However, you will want to become an Elsecaller, as Elsecaller Oaths revolve around reaching full potential. Shouldn't be too hard for you. Also obtain at least the Bondsmith Honorblade. Use Aon Tia to teleport to Scadrial. You'll want to locate the Bands of Mourning. Figure out how to charge them later, but obtain metals now. Then locate Marsh. Fight him, steal his atium, and leave the planet. Once safe on Nalthis, forge the atium into small earring style spikes. Use your various abilities to sneak up on Susebron and spike him to gain all his breaths. Atium spikes are preferred because they steal and preserve a power the best. Then escape immediately to your lair. Congratulations, you are now a 10th Heightening Awakener, Elantrian, Elsecaller (with Plate and Blade), unchained Bondsmith, Full Mistborn, Full Feruchemist, and have various other atium spikes for interchangeable powers as you see fit.

Yo momma so fat, Kaladin had to use two lashings to make her fly.

I think I'll go with skibidi toilet.

My pfp is an image of a Windrunner with his Shardblade. A closer look reveals that he is in the process of summoning Shardplate as well. He is on the Shattered Plains with a storm growing in the background. As a side note, I am not nearly talented enough to make that picture myself. I used AI, which it turns out can make some really cool Cosmere-themed images.

As the title of this post says, you can ask me anything, but your answers do not come with any context. I will give you no other information on this starting post, because that would be context. Good luck.

Another point worth mentioning is that Nightblood leaks black smoke when used. Not only is this black smoke described as "inky", it is also apparently very similar to the Shroud. Maybe it's kind of like the color red. Red is corrupted Investiture; could black be Investiture that has somehow decayed? That could also explain why Ruin's Investiture is black, since Ruin's Intent is decay.

Because apparently Kelsier's name is pronounced Kelsie-ay, his crew had a running joke where they called him "Kelsie-ay, the Survivo-ay."

The Night Brigade Novel/The Admiral/The Evil
Authorspren replied to Thaidakar the Ghostblood's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oh no, I just had a realization that ties into your theory. The name "Night Brigade" sounds kind of like another military force that went up against impossible odds and lost. The Light Brigade. Might not mean anything, but Brandon likes his subtle foreshadowing.- 6 replies

Why aren’t there new Yoki-Hijo?
Authorspren replied to Through the Living Elan's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I actually don't think Yoki-Hijo are necessary to bind spirits. The machine was able to do it as well. I think that the Yoki-Hijo just had a much, much easier time binding spirits because they were so highly Invested and were raised from birth stacking rocks. Because spirits are so difficult to attract, and because rock stacking is a very difficult art, Yoki-Hijo eventually just became the only way their culture knew how to attract spirits. I also think that rock stacking was the only method of art used at the time simply for convenience. Paint costs money and might not be available in small villages. Other problems would arise with other forms of art because of supply issues. The one thing universally present throughout the kingdom was rocks. The fact that stacks of rocks really can't be used for many things other than art probably helps. However, spirits can be attracted to any form of art so long as it's sufficiently artistic. If TV dramas are sufficiently artistic, they'll attract spirits. Per WOB, the only reason painting does not attract spirits because the art of painting was commodified, which minimized its artistry. Perhaps now that the job of nightmare painter is no longer needed, painting can become a proper art again, which would probably cause it to begin attracting spirits. One objection to this theory is that TV dramas are also made primarily for business purposes. My only explanation is that maybe there's still enough creativity left for it to count as art, since TV dramas don't need to exist. Nightmare painting, on the other hand, very much did need to exist and was more necessity than art. -
Depending on how widely known Hemalurgy was throughout Scadrial's history, it could count as a conspiracy theory. "They're always watching. And if they see anything, they'll come for you and steal part of your soul! They'll spike it right out of your heart and into their own body! But don't worry, you can still escape! Aluminum allows you to hide from them!" "Yeah right, what kind of crazy idea is that? Impaling people to steal their soul? Where do you come up with this? What's next, you have to have silver at all times to keep ghosts away?" "Well, actually..."
