  1. Yes and yes. I've discussed this in the first part of my point. However, while we've never seen the same medallion being both filled and tapped, used up heat medallions are given to Firemothers and Firefathers, who can refill them with heat - so there is a way for medallions to be of dual use, but we don't know if that's normal or if something has to be done with them first to allow Fireperson to store in them instead of tap. However this isn't something trivial because Set couldn't figure out a way to do that. BoM ch 21: BoM ch 25:
  2. At the very top of your post, right next to the date of post, you have the "report post" option, just click it, wait for a window to appear and write the message asking to move this entire topic to the "Cosmere discussion" subforum, because it's about Elantris as well as SA. Other tips if you don't know them:
  3. Those WoBs: Source? AonDor is Aonic Dor, manipulation of the Dor through Aons, Elantrians only, nothing else. Jaddeth represents Shu-Dereth, Dakhor which is independent from AonDor.
  4. That's not possible. Atium is pure Ruin's essence, it can't just turn into Preservation's power. Harmonium is half and half Ruin and Preservation, you can't get that from Atium alone. The question is, is Atium still locked in the cycle, changed to a different cycle (Harmonium) or did it return to Shard. Atium was gone for 300 year, unavailable even to Ruin - Harmony couldn't use it even if he wanted. He could change it and make make it as additional investiture for Harmonium or return it to his pull of combined Shardic investiture after 300 years have passed. If Sazed did that, he would unbalance himself, because for every bit of Atium invested in Harmonium, he would need the same amount of Preservation and this would result in weakening of his Preservation's side, and if he return it back to Ruin, Ruin would get stronger than Preservation. Only if Sazed leave it in the Atium cycle he could remain in "harmony". But the Pits don't produce Atium anymore, Wax saw them in SoS - it's possible that Atium is created in a different place, but that's unlikely. This means that Sazed change Atium's investiture in a way that furthers unbalance of his two halfs in favor of Ruin. This is supported by Kelsier in TLM - Harmony is in imbalance, he has more Ruin in himself than Preservation. Atium's investiture likely returned and cause imbalance. TLM epilogue 4: The other point is that Harmony already favors Preservation over Ruin - Ruin is subservient to Preservation. Despite Ruin being stronger, Harmony forces his rule over it and choses to Preserve more than to Ruin. TLM Ars Arcanum: Based on that I see two possibilities: Sazed's will will prevail and he will keep pushing Ruin into submission and fully embrace Discord favoring Preservation. This could also mean that Sazed is already Discord as that's precisely what he is doing currently. He just doesn't want to admit it or hasn't realized it yet. Ruin's power will overwhelm Sazed, maybe even change his personality a bit (holding Shardic power does that) and Discord will favor Ruin. I personally support the latter as I believe we won't see this destructive Ruin we know from Era 1, but we will see Sazed allowing embracing a more tamed version of Ruin, more beneficial, driving changes in society and technology forward, not just pure destructive power. Discord/Harmony is still Ruin and Preservation and that will change how Ruin part is manifesting. Good point, but I think the opposite. Because of how Preservation dominated Scadrial was over millennia, having a Ruin dominated period would be narratively more interesting. Also The Lord Ruler wasn't Preservation's idea - possibly, who knows what Leras had really planned. Overall your theory isn't crazy, it's well versed and well thought. It's very likely that this will happen because this is already happening. I especially like the 3rd point about music, it makes a lot of sense if you look at it that way. Good job.
  5. This topic should be in the Cosmere discussion as it contains spoilers of Elantris. You can just report your post and ask mods to move your topic to the correct subforum. But aside from that I find it highly unlikely. What force could cause an Earthquake on two different planets in two different star systems, influenced by completely different Shards? And why only on those planets, not on other planets in Cosmere? Shards can't do that that easily as they are bound to the planet they are invested in and can't move to another just like that. No other force could do that. And why? The earthquake on Sel had a clear goal - to destroy Elantrians - but on Roshar it did nothing special - it just destroyed one region which later was just forgotten. Powers of Surgebinders are not location dependent, it didn't affect them. That doesn't make much sense. There was no mention of any Earthquake in relation to the destruction of the Shattered Plains (earthquakes might not be happening on Roshar because there are no tectonic plates, so Rosharans should notice ground shaking). We don't have Cosmere timeline yet, but Elantris book is supposed to be happening early in Cosmere, so those events might coincide in time, but nothing is certain yet. There is no definite proof that those events aren't related, but I don't see any sense in that. Recently the WoB came up strongly suggesting that Jaddeth, the god of Shu-Dereth, is the Avatar of a certain Shard. We also know that Jaddeth lives underground and cares for rocks under the earth. One of the recent theories suggests that it was Jaddeth the Avatar that caused the earthquake in Arelon to weaken it and destroy Elantrians. If that's true, then he can't do the same on Roshar as his influence is limited only to Sel, or even just to a certain region of Sel. The WoB (TLM spoilers): Not possible, because by the time of Recreance, the Last Legion already abandoned Odium and went on exile to the Shattered Plains - they most likely went there before Aharietiam. The plains were already Shattered when BAM was imprisoned. And BAM is important only to Roshar, she can't even leave Roshar, not to mention influence Sel.
  6. Is Lifelight the light of Life Shard or Cultivation? Is Voidlight the light of the Shard of Void or Odium? Is Stormlight the light of Storm or Honor? Truthfully there likely are many different names for this combination, it all depends on who will pick them up together.
  7. It is, they have wrinkles indicating thousands of years, covering their skin. That's not a stable connection, that's just a surplus of raw investiture necessary to function. The connection is required to draw from the Dor, their body needs that too. They can't get investiture directly from the Dor because they are in CR, where the Dor is but also far away from it. You're wrong, dark spots are the visual clue of transformation. Ch 25: The difference is that Reod Elantrains aren't Elantrains YET, while pre-Reod Elantrians are and they would react to Reod slightly differently. One, like Riino, completed their transformation, the other, like Raoden, didn't. One already had a silver skin, the other didn't. Elantrains without constant supply of Dor turns dim, dark, dull, as evident by the Ire - that's what Reod is, it cuts off their supply of investiture. Why would you say that pre-Reod Elantrians didn't complete their transformation, when it's this transformation that makes them Elantrians? Why would a fully silver skin shrinked into patches of dark spots with the rest of the skin slowly turning from pale into brownish-gray?
  8. Not really, just like with Reod Elantrians, the Ire and Riino lack a stable connection to the Dor, and Dor can't heal them and sustain them - they reverted close to the form of Reod. But Reod Elantrins didn't complete their transformation, that's why they have dark spots, while Ire have uniformly dark skin, just like Elantrians who lived through Reod, as they completed their transformation, but now lack Dor to sustain them. I agree with @Treamayne as it just makes a lot of sense based on sparse evidence we have. The Ire were also differently affected by the Reod. Why? Because their body was already in a similar state:
  9. That can be said about everything - Adonalsium was killed by himself as all people were invested by him so he got killed by his own power. It doesn't make any sense as it's the amount of that power that matters. A Shard without any Vessel can Splinter itself: 4 Dawnshards, primal Commands used to create everything, were used to undo Adonalsium. He wasn't "just" killed by "just" some people. Dawnshard ch 19: Aethers and dragons would disagree. Aethers consider themselves as equal to Adonalsium. Dragons are worshiped as gods. No, sentience has nothing to do with it, but the future sight has a lot - if he had it, he should see it coming, unless his future sight was clouded by another future sight, which is very likely - Odium's future sight was clouded by a mortal person's future sight, that mean they didn't need much to do the same with Adonalsium. Disagree. We know he created Cosmere, not the Universe itself - Cosmere is only a small star cluster, not even the entire galaxy. We don't know where investiture came from at all or if it reaches outside of Cosmere. And yes, Adonalsium WAS investiture, just like Shards are investiture. Every Shard can't access the entirety of their power, it's beyond their capabilities. Technically Atium is the power being used by Ruin constantly, he just can't repurpose it, but this is the power that his "mind is using". And the creation of god metal is the result of great Shardic investment in a world resulting in a leakage of investiture from Spiritual Realm into Physical Realm. It's always happening. A destruction of a god metal would either return investiture to its Shard or return it to the cycle making new god metal (what Kel did in the Pits). Shards can live with a fraction of them missing - Ruin was fine, Preservation was fine (before breaking the oath), Honor was fine, Cultivation is fine, Endowment is fine etc. Every Shard has a fraction of them "missing" and Adonalsium had it as well - it's just a tiny fraction incomparable to the amount he had. Destroying a drop of water doesn't destroy an ocean. Because he could reabsorb it... But you doing anything with Atium doesn't affect Ruin (it's not about hiding it, but burning it, breaking it, combining it etc). No matter what you do with physical investiture it doesn't affect Shard itself.
  10. And this is an example of unjustifiable necro posting. It's a half year old thread, and your post adds nothing to the original topic. Don't do that.
  11. No, the atmospheric composition is the most important factor (Venus is hotter than Mercury), along with reflectiveness of the surface and the atmosphere, atmospheric pressure, geoactivity and other things. We don't know most of those factors, but UTol is an ocean world, while Komashi is a rocky planet - this is counterintuitive, as water has lower albedo than the land - it absorbs much more heat, but on the other hands clouds can reflect more sunlight (but water vapor is also a greenhouse gas). But if the atmosphere has low amounts of greenhouse gasses, most of this heat would radiate away. Also hot geysers indicate greater geoactivity on Komashi and there are Spirits heating the ground up, so that is additional heat warming up the planet, coming from the inside, not from the sun. Yes, even the place of the ritual, which attracted "Spirits" was described as extra-hot (compared to the normal hot-as-a stove ground). But some places on the planet were even hotter. But it's weird, as those weren't Spirits but the Shourd. I guess the machine used the Shroud to heat up the surface around prisons. Ch 4:
  12. I said "seems to prove" - Imply would be a better way to say it. Nothing concrete but it points towards one of two explanations. F-copper is different. Once you store memory it's gone from your mind. You don't need to store memory constantly to get rid of it, you don't have any time limitation of how long you can tap a memory, you probably can't even tap it with diminishing returns as a memory isn't stored in a certain timeframe, it just is. It's an on and off switch, unlike all other Feruchemical attributes that we know off. Medallion portion of nicrosil works just like a coppermind - on and off switch. Because unkeyed and unsealed metalminds seem to be completely devoid of any identity, this is a strong suggestion that identity works like memories - you either have it or not. For me it would make sense that identity and F-aluminum work in the same way. Of course we know too little to know that for sure, but it's a possibility worthy of consideration.
  13. Rayse wasn't killed by any god. He was killed by Nightblood and didn't see it coming because of Renarin's influence - not a god. The original 16+1 had 4 Dawnshards and a dragon or two on their side, that's a looooot, and apparently that's enough. Also couldn't Adonalsium just allow Shattering to happen? No, I don't see that. Adonalsium designed Roshar, created unstable moons, its continent shaped in the image of the Julia set, Adonalsium created Cosmere - that's the best evidence for sentience. Nature doesn't design, it's random. Nature can't be killed, it's eternal. Adonalsium was killed. You don't call electromagnetism a god. You also don't tell a force that "killing" it is "for his own good". But truthfully it is unknown if Adonalsium was some entity or a force, but most Cosmere individuals suspect, and most evidence points to, that he was some sentient entity. SH ch 3-2 "Anyway, there was a God. Adonalsium. I don’t know if it was a force or a being, though I suspect the latter." Plus we know investiture gains sentience if left alone long enough - Adonalsium was investiture of all 16 Shards combined, eventually he would gain sentience. No. Ruin was kind of Splintered by Preservation and part of his power was locked in the Atium cycle. But this power is still his, it didn't destroy Ruin nor Ati. Investiture leaks into PR manifesting as Atium - that's the nature of god metals. But your statement makes no sense in the context of this theory - burning Atium doesn't break Ruin, it doesn't break investiture into pieces, destruction of Harmonium doesn't break Harmony. Destruction of Raysium's dagger didn't break Odium. No matter what you do to a god metal, it doesn’t affect its Shard, because a Shard is infinitely bigger than its god metal. No, the theory is about Adonalsium being called like that, because that is what "Ado's" god metal was called, and it's his god metal that was Shattered, which somehow killed "Ado" as well - people have forgotten his real name so they call him with the name of his god metal. But this doesn't work because there are some, like Hoid, who lived back then and would remember. Some would disagree, but I think that responding to a theory thread, even a year old and quiet, isn't wrong. Plus new information came up - TLM and Harmonium reaction.
  14. Nah, I bet that the first section will end with the duel, and the remaining 4 will deal with its consequences. Also you've accidentally double posted - you can just report the second one:
  15. F-copper. The existence of blanked metalminds seems to prove that F-aluminum works like F-copper.
  16. Oh now that's a good question. Silver seems to disturb investiture in a destructive way, and there is some potential for silver to kill a spren, but I think a Shardblade, as a physical god metal, would be more resilient to that, just like a god metal is more resilient to anti-light. Would it block Shardblade? We don't know. Silver is used up in contact with investiture so it's definitely not a reliable way to stop a Shardblade.
  17. Possibly but on the other hand Kelsier's goal is not only to democratize Metallic Arts, but also make them stronger, and provide a new fuel source in the form of raw investiture instead of metals. The power-up of Metallic Arts will happen, and has to happen so they can compete with future threats, therefore popularization of compounding can also happen - to provide a stronger fuel source for Feruchemy. However it's true that this might be a step too far. We'll see. Right, my bad, I don't know what I was thinking about writing that.
  18. Ambition, Dominion, Devotion, Ruin, Preservation, Honor, Odium - the list goes on and on. Not really in my opinion, Adonalsium created Roshar, and his investiture was everywhere, he has to be a sentient, omnipresent entity - it doesn't mean he has to be like Shards, and has a Vessel, as rules of Shards might simply don't apply to him. Him being just a piece of metal doesn't fit. Now about the theory, even if there was some name mixing, breaking Harmonium into Atium and Lerasium didn't break Harmony into Ruin and Preservation, so breaking Adonalsium-god-metal wouldn't break "Ado" into 16 Shards just because. That simply can't happen. We know that the Shattering is similar to Splintering, but Splintering happens just on a smaller scale, and breaking a god metal doesn't break its Shard, not Splintering a Shard, doesn't break its god metal: Hoid certainly knows the true name of Adonalsium, and he calls him Adonalsium on multiple occasions, just like he calls all Shards by their Vessel's names - we don't see him calling Preservation as Lerasium but just Leras. Shards also possess greater knowledge granted to them by the power itself, and once again Sazed calls him just Adonalsium. Also is Waxillium a god metal or just a name? In the future please avoid responding to an old thread (this one is a year old, as that's against the forum's policies. While it's an interesting theory, and rediscussing it might be fun, it's still a necro-posting. Also @First of the Dun please avoid double posting - you can just edit your previous post and add more to it:
  19. No. Perpendicularity is not a Shard directly; it's separate from it to some degree. Moreover there is so much investiture in a perpendicularity, that a Mistborn would need a crap ton of chromium, even with duralumin, to actually burn it all away. The result would only be a destruction of a perpendicularity. The investiture you leeched would simply return back to its Shard.
  20. True, but with 3 spikes you're already at the limit - if you add a 4th one you will expose yourself to Harmony, and he could Hemalurgically control you. Moreover you can add only 1 more spike granting you a power, as your soul accepts only powers/attributes from 4 spikes (TLM Ars Arcanum). You definitely can do some cool, for now unknown stuff with Identity manipulation, that's a positive at least, but you have to be careful with picking compounding powers. However, depending on where you place those spikes, and what powers do they grant, you might be able to switch spikes like Paalm in SoS did - but unlike her you have to be very careful as you can't regenerate and removing spikes can be deadly.
  21. Earth is not a part of Cosmere - just saying. A single person from Earth won't influence Cosmere magic enough to create such phenomena. But generally a large group of people have some leverage over a magic system with their perception, but that system itself was set up in a specific way so that's a very limited influence. Even creating a new spren type isn't as simple as thinking about something new. Something like you propose couldn't happen. If that person Ascended to a Shard, and was a huge fan of Spiderman, then there might be some invested art close to this idea popping out on his planet. But invested arts aren't created by a Shard, they form naturally and spontaneously based on interaction between Shard and a world they're investing. Therefore that person would have to Ascend to a proper Shard that shares some core ideas with Spiderman - a Shard like Valor for example. Still, that's very unlikely and just random.
  22. Hello, welcome to the Shard! You're right, WoB: Well, yes but there isn't that much of it. The investiture in metalminds would be keyed primarily to a Hemalurgist (but the ability itself stolen by spike is not, it's keyed to the original Feruchemist): IF they are keyed. If Sazed unkeyed his metalmind, Vin would be able to compound, at least that would work in Era 1, not sure if in Era 2. That seems like a plausible solution, good job, I don't think I've seen this one before. But there is only one question remaining - can you store the identity of the spike's investiture with F-aluminum? If not, your powers of Allomancy and corresponding Feruchemy are still keyed to different people and this might still prevent you from compounding. But the Set was somehow able to produce unkeyed metalminds for their Hemalurgists, so I think it would store identity of spikes as well (because technically speaking the piece of soul contained in the spike is now hotwired into your soul, so it's considered as a part of your soul - therefore you can store it). This should work, but you need to find an aluminum Ferring, who are very rare. Another possibility, more popular and often proposed, is to just have an aluminum medallion and give them to your victims before stealing powers from them - they will store their identity in the medallion and you have an unkeyed spike, which should allow you to compound. While it might be hard to convince them to store identity before their death just like that, so it's an unreliable way.

    Aesudan's bond

Well, she did bond with him when she swallowed the gemstone containing him, but was too weak to control him and was consumed instead. OB ch 118: OB ch 95 epigraph:
  24. Agreed, Pattern does that too in his own way, and I love that about him as well. Btw @Stitof where is Phendorana? She deserves to be in the poll.
  25. I don't like her because of that (it's still a factor), but because of her supportive attitude. She worries about Kaladin all the time, she's always encouraging him to try one more time, be happy and take care of himself. When he is at his lowest, she's there trying her best to cheer him up and help him, even if she doesn't understand what's happening. She's there for Kaladin when he froze in OB and when he can't move on in Shadesmar, helping him, hugging him and trying her best to make him better. When Kaladin collapsed emotionally after his retirement in RoW, she was already bringing Adolin to him. She went out of her way to try to understand him, and even asked Stormfather and Dalinar to help her even if that meant messing up her own spirit web. That's why I love her, she's so supportive and helpful despite her childlike behavior.
