He has the power and the knowledge, but he can't do that directly - Honor's restrictions prevent him from acting like that. He even said that he has to be freed of those restrictions first so he can destroy Splinters of Honor. RoW ch 112: OB ch 57: If he could kill Splinters of Honor directly just like that, he would have done it already.

Moash interlude is certain and probably will be the main PoV of interlude (like Szeth in WoK and Taravangian later), Rysn and Lift will be there too for sure. I'm hoping for Zahel or Azure to finish their storyline, BAM would make an interesting interlude, maybe El, Chana if a certain theory is true, and maybe Stormfather (because of his suspicious behavior in the prologue)? I doubt we will get Odium or Cultivation interlude - that's too revealing, but there could be something with Odium at the end if he fails. Axies would be fun to come back, but I also hope for the return of Puuli the lighthouse keeper from OB - that was a really weird guy and something could be foreshadowed there, so maybe he will return in interludes. Tarah will get her own interlude.
-
He doesn't need to kill Stormfather, he just needs to deadeye him, and this can be done through Dalinar - like trying to Unmake him or something, forcing one of them to break the bond.

Yes, just a gold compounder can do that. But If you're a Fullborn you don't need to do this, just use nicrosil compounding, which does exactly what you want - store and tap invested powers increasing their strength (speculation, it's not confirmed yet but I believe F-nicrosil works like most Feruchemical metalminds, like a steelmind, not like a coppermind, but we know nicrosil stores invested powers like Allomancy, not raw investiture) - there is no need for you to crack your soul with spikes, allowing Shards to influence you or even control if you have 4 or more spikes. 4 spikes is still the limit of how much powers your soul will take, and if you have more than that, you won't get any powers from them. Big WoB answering this question:

They can likely take forms in the Everstorm - Venli took her Envoyform in the Everstorm.

Logically, she messed with Ghostbloods, there have to be some consequences. They saved her brothers from a war torn country and delivered them as a wedding gift. Mraize made several elaborate threats to Shallan, and while Hoid managed to get her family out of the Tower, for Mraize it will be a very exciting hunt. Their death would impact Shallan significantly. But we will see. To be fair I just thought about it, it's not that I want the to die.
-
For me it is not impactful enough for Shallan. One of Shallan's brothers on the other hand...

I thought almost the same, but about Gavinor jumping in to stab Marsh. I would say that If Odium's champion provoked somebody and got hit as a consequence, then he got what he asked for and the contract is still valid (or worse, because he started it, it would be considered as Odium breaking the terms). But that's open to interpretation honestly. What would be a Taravangian move is to send Marsh without him doing any provocation, but just him being voidishly him, which makes Gavinor attack him to avenge his father's death. Odium could theoretically riot Gavinor's hatred in some indirect way, but Gavinor already wants to kill Moash. RoW ch 16:

True, I understand your point, but I don't agree. Brandon kills his main characters either to finish their character arc, or for their deaths to be meaningful, to have real emotional impact on others. He doesn't do bloodbaths just to shock his audience, that's not his style. For me it works. The OB palace scene is one of my favorites precisely because of how impactful it was to Kaladin. While yes, the stakes are so high that it's hard to believe every main and most secondary characters came out of it just fine compared to Fused dying left and right. Thankfully for me this doesn't really matter to me, but I admit, I wish more people, like Teft or Elhokar or even main PoVs, died in books - a certain Book of the Fallen did this to me. I'm quite sure someone major will die in KoWT. It's too big not to, it's the end of the era and the stakes are too high.
-
Keep in mind perception is still a factor. If Odium believes what he's doing doesn't break the terms, he might get away with it. RoW ch 116:
-
True, but it isn't about public declaration of atheism, it's about something private. If she just started to doubt Vorinism, telling her father that Almighty isn't that mighty, he doesn't make any logical sense or she doesn't believe in him - just in private, between the two of them, Gavilar might have overreacted and done terrible things to her. Just an idea.

The Painted Man (The Warded Man in the US?) by Peter V. Brett, first book of the Demon Cycle. If there were demons in this book then that's likely it.

Favorite non-radiant Stormlight Character? [Poll]
alder24 replied to Aredor's topic in Stormlight Archive
Adolin, he is still one of my favorite SA characters, though I admit, this list is long. He's always cheerful, caring, befriending everyone, trying to help others no matter their status. And he is interesting to read, a breeze of normality in the world of supermen. -
Yes, I thought about it a lot too. The most logical thing for Odium to do is to either force Dalinar to break the Oath (like making someone intervene in the duel), or nullify the contract before the contest happens. That's a very good and safe way to back off (and fits with my theory of permanent weeping and flooding of Kharbranth). RoW ch 112: Well, Taravangian certainly didn't approach this contest in good faith, so we can expect a move like this to happen - but Dalinar and the Coalition most likely won't see this coming. No, the duel has to happen after 10 days on top of Urithiru between willing champions. If Odium kills Dalinar before that, that's not the duel and the duel now can't happen, not because that Dalinar as his champion is dead, but because Dalinar as the other side of the agreement is dead (with Stormfather). Basically nobody with whom Odium made a deal is alive anymore, so the contract is void (or because no champion shows up as dead Dalinar can't choose anyone). RoW ch 112:

Trell isn't a spoiler. Also Malwish have their own religions Unfortunately we know nothing much about Sliverism than what's on the Coppermind. And why is Sliverism a Yomens' religion? Well, they are descendants of Obligator Yomen from HoA, he would teach his kids about TLR and Ironeyes.

No, no, no, not that wouldn't work, but using a power-stealing spike, like steel, to steal not a power from somebody - we don't know what it would do, what charge it would have, if any, and how much. While there certainly are other uses for spikes, outside of what the Hemalurgic table teaches (ReLuur Blessing is pewter, which should steel Feruchemical physical powers) but that requires specific intent and correct binding place. Just grabbing a random spike and hoping it would steal something might not work. Set was most likely using a simple nicrosil spike - it was described as silvery and nicrosil is silvery (well, tbf many metals are silvery so that's not definite). But they were stealing raw investiture and we know nicrosil is just for that. Nicrosil steals general investiture. Every spike causes some level of alterations. Investiture isn't physical, like strength, so it might not cause anything major, and it isn't a Feruchemical attribute (powers are stored in nicrosilminds not general investiture as far as we know). And Set did give those spikes to test them, they couldn't make them give powers for long, but didn't mention any deformation - so giving yourself raw investiture should be fine. Breath is the same as Preservation's fragment, it's innate investiture, and both are stolen with nicrosil. If you want to steal a piece of investiture from somebody, you're using a nicrosil spike. That's what I'm talking about, that's what general investiture is, that's what Set was doing, and that's what nicrosil spike steals. Don't try to use a random spike in hopes of stealing something, just use a nicrosil spike. But instead of making 1 drab a week, you will be making much more worse-then-drab a week, as Nalthian Breath is the most invested innate investiture in Cosmere tha we know of. Scadrial's Preservation's fragment isn't that invested. So instead of traumatizing lots of people, wounding them and ruining their lives, just use Breaths if you don't want to steal any power to feed on. Edit: That was my 3333rd post - nice number!

Yes, I agree.

That's correct, incorrect was that AonDor is all Dor and "AonDor" becomes self-aware. Yes, and she is talking about the landscape becoming self-aware, not the Dor. Plus this WoB - the earthquake had nothing to do with the ground gaining sentience - if Jaddeth caused it, he can't be the Dor/Sel gaining self-awareness. Edit: Odium stuffed Investiture of D&D to CR specifically to prevent it from gaining sentience - the Dor itself should have a harder time becoming sentient than normal investiture: The link is with a timestamp to that particular question. I can't find that WoB. Who said that Jaddeth can't just lie or use their beliefs for his own goals? The empire itself might have their beliefs rooted in Dominion's nature, but it doesn't believe directly in Dominion. The Coppermind page of Shu-Dereth has no mention of Dominion (but they were influenced by his nature), it states however that only the Wyrn serves Jaddeth directly - sounds familiar?

Well, yes, if you can charge the sand with other people's investiture, then yes. But I'm nitpicking only about when you have no other people and only your Awakening - it's an unreliable method. It's good when Coinshoters are pushing above your head, bad when they aren't. Overall I agree, I would recommend Returned to carry a bag of White Sand with him, but I would warn him not to rely on it too much.

Could you use painting to change a sprens shape?
alder24 replied to Elite01's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Nah, I've read that much in preview chapters. It's fine. -
We don't know if it would work. It might steal something but why not nicrosil if you want innate investiture? There are much easier methods of fueling Returned that don't require killing someone every week - Pure Dor, big perfect gemstone full of Stormlight - living on Roshar/Taldain. Not really. Investiture, like energy, can't be created, so when you charge White Sand, it's the "leakage" of investiture that charges it. You would likely need a Breath worth of investiture to keep yourself alive, so you would need to lose a Breath, or make all your Breaths a bit weaker, to charge the Sand. Either way you're losing investiture and you will run out of Breaths to Awaken. I believe so. Nightblood can feed off a metalmind, Returned likely can as well (if there aren't any limitations unknown to us yet).

That's just using Breaths with extra steps

Cough Cough, this is only Yumi section, not Sunlit Man. Edit: @Trusk'our could you edit your post and hide Treamayne's quote in a spoiler box too? -
Well, I guess the spike would need to be inserted into Returned for him to feed from it (because removing investiture from spike would be really, really hard, so you need to connect it with your soul), and it likely would have to be equal to 1 Breath worth of investiture, but why do it this way? Just steal Allomancy or Feruchemy and use investiture from invested arts instead of wounding his spirit web only to suck investiture from spikes.

AonDor is accessing the Dor ONLY through the use of Aons - Dakhor clearly don't use Aons, they have some other shapes, based on Fjorden's geography, not Arelon's: No. The essay said that "Selish landscape is becoming self-aware", and that was only Khriss' belief. I can't quote this to you, check it yourself. Your both "twos" are wrong, recalculate with correct numbers. Watch Brandon's reaction, it said everything: https://www.youtube.com/live/jSkFJlJxpWg?si=9y_szAunVVMXeTPn&t=6000 Edit: @Treamayne a little
