  1. Orlok, Stick, and Aman have left Kharbranth and are now likely partying it up at Highprince Tekiel's estate. They've ditched all of you Kharbranth hood guys for good. (When I get the player list up they will be crossed out. Hopefully that will be soon. Yes, they had access to the same Surge. I try to keep the write-ups close to the truth but I take some creative liberties with them in order to get a better story. Do with that info what you will.
  2. Sorry, minor write-up error; I had LivingLegend voting in two places. The last vote on LivingLegend should be Stick, not LivingLegend. The write-up has been fixed.
  3. Two pigs were up to go to market Div and Lej’Elin The timer was slowly ticking down The lynching about to begin But as the farmer came to pick them up Some final voting came in Two pigs were up to go to market And they took Lej’Elin ***** The Lady of Chaos sucked in Stormlight, letting its soft glow illuminate the closet-like storage room. She pulled the drapes on the open window that she had used to enter. It was on the second floor, which is why it had not been locked, but a second-floor window was laughably easy to access when you had access to basic lashings. She had come to the Palaeneum looking for answers. Who were these Escaped Inmates who had been revealed yesterday. She knew the Escaped Inmates were what they called themselves because that’s what Ev had threatened would kill them all before he died. Inmates… did that mean they were once in prison? The Palanaeum, with all of its records and knowledge, had to hold a clue to where they came from. She left the storage room and entered the Palaeneum itself, which was pitch-black. That was strange; where were the usual assortment of sleep-deprived scholars with the night-shift of Ardents? A footstep that was not her own echoed in the darkness, and the Lady of Chaos felt adrenaline surge into her veins. “Who’s there?” Silence. Suddenly, a streak of metal shot from the darkness into the circle of light she shed, grazing her side and thudding into something wooden-sounding behind her. Storm it, she cursed to herself, The Stormlight that I’m using to see paints me as the perfect target. She drew in some of the Stormlight to heal the wound in her side and drew a throwing-knife of her own. Using a few basic lashings, she shot it into the darkness in the direction she had heard the footstep from and readied a reverse lashing on the wall nearest her. Sure enough, a second throwing knife shot from the darkness, bending in a curved path towards the reverse lashing. She lashed herself upwards, shooting up from the ground as two more knives shot beneath her. How many throwing knives could this assassin have? She hit the ceiling and crouched there, hearing the sound of booted footsteps crossing the ground beneath her. The assassin had obviously switched to a hand-to-hand weapon and charged, but her sudden maneuver had foiled their attempt and exposed their position. She grinned and dropped, using a half lashing to make the landing easy. She hit the floor, summoning her shardblade and spinning it in a circle of death around her, but hit nothing. A fifth throwing knife took her directly in the spine. ***** Highlord Locke Tekiel and his apprentice Stick walked the streets of Kharbranth clad in the garb of Kharbranth’s police force. Their stride was even, measured, precise. Orderly, as it should be. Even in local clothing, they still stood out compared to the bowed heads and tentative walks of those they passed. They were on a mission, a mission of justice, and they feared no evil. At the end of the street they saw their target. Lo-Kag, Horneater and proto-Radiant, sat at a table at a bar window. He didn’t appear to be intoxicated, but that was all the better for Locke. He preferred to administer justice when his targets were sensible enough to realize that the law was on his side. He gestured to Stick, who approached Lo-Kag. “My friend, your innkeeper needs to speak to you immediately. Something about your rent.” Lo-Kag looked up, confused. He was sure that he had paid his rent on time, but it wouldn’t do to be evicted and so he gathered up his things. He tossed a few coins on the table to pay his tab and left the bar. Stick did not follow, true to his instructions. Instead, it was Locke who approached him as he made his way down the street. “I believe you forgot something,” Highlord Tekiel said, holding out an open and empty hand. Lo-Kag squinted at it, “I don’t see anything…” Locke’s shardblade appeared in his open hand, point buried directly in Lo-Kag’s heart. He pulled it free as Lo-Kag slumped to the side, eyes burning. “It was the Desolations that you forgot about,” he said to the corpse, “Do you wish to bring them upon us again?” With a thud, Ana Lyst landed by Locke’s side. Locke turned, “What has happened? I left you to watch Lady of Chaos.” “Chaos is dead, my lord. An assassin took her as I watched.” “Did you follow the assassin?” “It is not wrong to kill those deserving of death. You taught me that yourself.” Locke nodded, impressed. “Shall we retire to my estate?” Ana Lyst nodded, as did Stick. ***** Far away from Kharbranth, at the estate of Highlord Locke Tekiel, three men stood in an upstairs conference room. Locke, Ana Lyst, and Stick. The last of the proto-Radiants had fallen, and the Desolation had been pushed back. Locke brought out a bottle of fine wine from a cabinet and poured three glasses. Three hands reached out and took one. Locke raised his glass to his lips. “Let justice be done,” he said, and drank. The others followed, “Let justice be done.” LivingLegend was lynched! 6. If all the pigs end up in a tie, only one of them goes to market. Which one that is, well, we don't know that until the truck comes around to take 'em there.
  7. Player list and countdown have (finally) arrived!
  8. To clarify, there's no difference between being a member of X and being allied with X. It's just fancier to say it this way.
  9. Lift, or Nolan (Fifth Scholar) as she went by in Kharbranth, was hungry. That wasn’t abnormal for her; she was always hungry, at least this time of the morning before her daily pancake heists. So when she found a stack of pancakes at her door with a note attached, her hunger overcame her paranoia, and she wolfed them all down. To Nolan, the note read, I have seen your efforts in collecting pancakes and thought to save you a trip across town. Here is a stack of pancakes I made from scratch, just for you. I hope you enjoy them. --An Admirer Specially-made those pancakes were. Within an hour she was found dead by cyanide poisoning. ***** Ev (Drake Marshall) slinked his way down a dark alley. After escaping from the mental hospital, he’d thought he’d be home free. But no, it was work, work, work. He stopped at the corner and asked a beggar, “Any word from the town square? Who have they decided is the killer?” The beggar turned and squinted at him, “They should have decided by now, but right before they were to leave there was a sudden change of plan.” “Who?” The lights of torches suddenly illuminated the alley, and that answered that question. ***** Fifth Scholar was killed! 10. And that's time! Please refrain from communicating with other players until the new cycle is up.
  11. So I think my brother's ex is trying to make a move on me...
  12. Due to a GM schedule conflict, this cycle will be extended by two hours past the time on the clock. Next cycle things will be back to normal.
  13. Thunder rumbles in the distance. You get a bad feeling about that vote.
  14. A bell tolled, sending a group of scavenging chickens flapping for cover. The chickens had arrived days ago, drawn by the scent of decay that the city had slowly begun to take on. Fewer and fewer people were going out at night, afraid of what they might find when they were alone. Or what might find them when they were alone. A few people still walked the night streets. Courting couples, rowdy youths, drunkards, and workers too poor or too new to get anything but night shifts still traced their usual paths through the night. But even they seemed on edge. The streets, once a hubbub of nightlife and conversation, now were eerily silent. Trash had begun to accumulate in the alleys as street sweepers hesitated to leave the lit streets. Whatever was taking the lives of men and women was draining the life from Kharbranth, too. Perhaps those who were avoiding the night streets had nothing to fear at all. As random as the killings were--they struck bankers and merchants, prostitutes and nobles without discrimination--it was obvious that whoever was killing was doing every single one for a reason. An indiscriminate killer would have had plenty of easy prey in Kharbranth’s less-reputable districts, but this murderer or murderers did not kill based on opportunity alone. Just last night, a nobleman had been slain by a Shardblade summoned into his back and then his entourage cut down as they fled, all while a drunk slumbered nearby. A few days ago a merchant had been knifed by a masked intruder in her shop that left two witnesses alive. Different targets, different weapons, different plans of action, but the same ruthlessness that marked some to die and others to live. The populace of Kharbranth was suffocating in paranoia. Hounded by fear and driven by distrust, some of the most vocal began advocating for vigilante violence, although the majority resisted. Then, one day at a meeting in the town square, something snapped. The citizens of Kharbranth were finished with standing idly by while something in the darkness chose who was slain and who was spared. Forming into a mob bristling with swords, boards, and sticks, they were determined to make their own choice about who was to die this day... Player List: This cycle will end in 48 hours on Sunday, March 25 at 3:00 p.m. MDT.
  15. All role-PMs are now out and signups are closed. Please contact me if you did not receive a role PM. Cycle 1 will be up in a few minutes!
  16. Signups are going to be open until the timer runs down, but I'm going to start sending out role PMs in just a few minutes. They should be all out by the time the timer hits zero.
  17. Not unless you want to take my physics quiz for me.
  18. I've added @Ecthelion III and @The_Lady_of_Chaos to the player list. Neither of them have posted in the thread yet but both have told me they want to join the game (in person and on Discord, respectively). This makes 19 players in total, easily enough to run the game. Thanks to everyone who has joined the game!
  19. Sorry I'm late; I was at a scholarship competition today and I forgot all about this in the stress of it all. Back on topic, this makes 14 official signups, and Ecth told me to hold him a spot so that makes 15. I've prepared a modification of the rules that will work for 16-19 instead of 20, so if we still don't have 20 by Friday I'll get Joe's or Wilson's approval on the revised setup and go with that.
  20. I'm not a big action movie fan but even I was impressed with what I saw. One concern: it's established that Klaue got hit arm-cannon from Wakanda, so why don't we see that kind of firepower again? They could have seriously put that kind of tech to use in the final battle, but instead it's just modern-looking versions of medieval swords and shields for the most part.
  21. For me vocals are secondary to getting a beat that moves you, but they're definitely a plus. That actually might be why people like different genres: rap is all about a certain kind of lyrics, pop is about the vocals with a minor emphasis on music, rock is about the instrument-work and energy (in general, rock is a very broad term) with a minor emphasis on vocals, EDM is all about getting a beat/synth you can get down to, and so on. What people want from their music determines what genres they like. Want sad songs to ease your heartbreak to? Try blues or some pop. Want something that will fill you with energy? Rock and EDM. Want something to add to your cool vibe? Alternative or rap. Improvisation and instrument skill? R&B, or old-school rock 'n' roll. (I think we may have derailed this thread slightly...)
  22. I live in a county with more cows than people, but country doesn't get me feeling nostalgic. The words to some of the songs are good, since country is one of the only music genres that I've heard that glorifies the traditional gentleman, but the performance and instruments ruin the effect. If only we could take the lyrics for those country songs and put them to some nice electronic music.
  23. Because we only have 9 players, I'm going to extend signups to the same time on Tuesday the 20th. I've balanced for 20-ish players and we need a minimum of about 15-17 for this game to work. Here's the new timer and I've corrected the one in the OP.
  24. I'm generally stingy with my upvotes. If you make me laugh, I'll give you an upvote. If you write an RP that makes me emotionally connect with the story or characters, I'll give you an upvote. Other than that, I don't give out many.
  25. If we don't have 20 plus or minus a few by the time signups is over, I'll just extend signups until we have enough.
