  1. I think you misunderstood. It is unclear in the book whether or not the Malwish know Kelsier's name. We do know he didn't hide his scars and probably the rest of his features. The Malwish don't need to know the difference; the Northerners do. As soon as someone starts describing the Sovereign the Northerners will figure it out. Which makes it unlikely that the charade will last much longer. The gamebook says the Southerners believe the Sovereign is TLR. There isn't any indication of that in the book; it's Wax and co who come to that conclusion. I think it would have been better to leave it ambiguous; saying the Southerners believe a man from the North came to save them. This way players can make their own choice. I'm not certain where their other beliefs come in; I'm not complaining about that!
  2. Wrong hair color... wrong eye color. SCARS on his hands that Kell did not cover... Once more information gets out someone is putting two and two together. They really don't look a thing alike, aside from the height. And we don't know if Kell used his own name or not... The book does mention that he's the Sovereign in 'Secrets of Masks of the Past' under 'the Sovereign.' But most of the book pretends he's TLR. The assumption is the Malwish don't know; I feel it would have been better to leave it ambiguous.
  3. They don't mention that the Sovereign is the Survivor, instead perpetuating the error that he is the TLR. Then again, it is written from the perspective of the North... The problem is the Malawish would know the difference!
  4. The One's Above, on the other hand, are a different story. But one of the major theories has them as Scadrians...
  5. Sel, Taldain and Scadrial. Taldain would be ahead, but Bavadin seems to have intervened at some point. Sel may have developed along different lines than Scadrial though. The Scadrians are rapidly catching up.
  6. He's been intervening recently - but recently the issues have been caused by off world interference! He doesn't really seem interested in intervening in the coming civil war. And he wasn't really involved in BoM, which mainly involved two groups of Scadrians fighting over technology created by another Scadrian. In fact, outside of SoS, he doesn't really intervene. He did try to get Wax home, but seems to have left things alone once Paalm decided to marry Wax and stay in the roughs. (There is no evidence indicating that Harmony had Lessie be shot; only that Lessie thought he did. If anyone was involved, my guess is the Survivor. It fits him better.)
  7. So was I... I was thinking iron allomancy - not iron metal. But that wasn't what I wrote...
  8. I went back to look. Kar describes the lines he sees as iron lines. If the spikes were steel he should have used steel lines, as the lines are usually called depending on if one is using steel or iron. I think that's where I got the idea that Kar's eye spikes are iron, and forgot the exact context.
  9. It is worth noting that the person writing those epigraphs had been wrong before.
  10. The spikes in the eyes were sometimes iron - one of the Inquisitors had iron eye spikes.
  11. People have gone to war of over more foolish things. It would be very ironic if Harmony's Rings or empty Bands caused a major war!
  12. The arm bracers couldn't be visible - they had to be against his skin and he wore a coat.
  13. I would add that the one who built the Temple had seen the Ire's fortress, and might have gotten some ideas...
  14. It's more complicated than that. The Bands had to be created by one person. Otherwise the powers interfere with one another. (Three abilities from three people seem to be the maximum.) It could possibly be done by two: a Mistborn and a Feruchemist. But there were no Feruchemists in the South ever, and the ones in the North were dead. Though my big question is HOW did F Alluminum get into the bands?! I'm guessing compounding played a role but this one's a real mystery.
  15. I know there were allomancers with the ability but it's irrelevant because Kelsier is a Mistborn; that's why I focused on Ferrings. All the Feruchemists were killed prior to the Catascande. This discussed in the book. Afterwards there were no new ones born, only Ferrings. I could see Kell finding a reason to kill an adult, or convincing a dying adult to allow him to spike them, but not a child. And children born after the Catascande are the only ones who had Feruchemical abilities. So the timeline just doesn't add up.
  16. If Kell had had more spikes Wax would have noticed; past a certain point they become painful. In addition four of the needed attribute spikes definitely didn't exist: Chromium and Nicrosil, and Cadmium and Bendalloy. Harmony may not have stopped Kell from spiking himself, but he WOULD have intervened if Kell started killing Ferrings. Except that Kelsier actually went South only 10 years after the Catascande. While it is theoretically possible that the North had found the two missing metals and alloys AND ferrings of each metal had been born, I find this unlikely. Not to mention, said Ferrings would be nine or younger as they didn't exist prior to the Catascande and there were no Feruchemists after. So Kell and Spook would have had to kill children - and I really doubt either was capable of it. Sooo... not spikes?
  17. Kell seems to view the Beyond as nothingness though, and he's not the sort to commit suicide. He's already proven himself willing to die for a cause he believes in and for people he loves. So he may yet be forced Beyond due to one or the other. I suspect Kelsier left Scadrial to learn about other Shards. He can focus himself on them as 'enemies'. And he does control his nastier aspects rather well. He wants to be good, knows he isn't, and still tries anyway which is actually rather noble. There are not many characters like that. His journey to being a hero may not be complete, but I think future stories will lead to him becoming one. Especially since Brandon mentions that Kelsier's journey being incomplete is a big part of why the Survivor had to be brought back. Aside from the above, Kell is primarily a Guil Hero. I wouldn't be surprised to have him originally appear to be someone else, and thus be limited by that persona. And I'm certain he has limitations or consequences caused by his return that we are simply unaware of. On top of which, he may spend a great deal of time off page, just as he did in TFE. Either way, I can't wait to find out! ...but I have to... sigh... (Desperately wishes for a time machine.)
  18. From what Allik said, it sounded to me like the Deniers were SoScads who had severed themselves from the faith and culture. I wouldn't be surprised if the Shard behind 'Trell' is behind this too though...
  19. When I said 'killed in the Cognitive Realm' I meant being forced into the Beyond, which Ruin almost does in SH. Which, for a Cognitive being, would probably equate to having their personality destroyed.
  20. This was clarified later; they were not Hemalurgic spikes.
  21. I actually see Kell transitioning to the physical realm as similar to a spren. Except that instead of a nahel bond he has a spike. The spike connects him to the physical realm and he can enter it through a Shard pool. Spren become more physically present as the Nahel bond gets stronger. Kell's spike grants an even stronger connection so he becomes physical upon entering the physical realm. Despite this he remains a Cognitive being. (Specifically, I think he would see Spren as they appear on the Cognitive plain, not on the physical.) He would have enough of a body to use the Allomantic (and Feruchemical) arts. If someone could ask Brandon if Kell's new body is fully functional that would be a great bit of information! Getting back to my theory... Remove the spike and he gets stuck between realms, which is what I believe happens to 'dead' shardblades. The spike could be safely removed in the Cognitive realm. So removing it doesn't 'kill' him; arguably, it's worse. 'Killing' Kelsier on the physical plane would have the same effect as a Spren's radiant dying; he'd be launched back into the Cognitive realm. He can be killed in the Cognitive. Damage in the physical realm would reflect back on his Cognitive image. He can be hurt here because his connection is MUCH stronger than a nahel bond. I don't believe he'd age, but that's for a different reason. Kell's soul 'knows' he died at 38, so it tries to keep him there. Sort of a reverse LR situation. Or, possibly, I just love the idea that the best way to become immortal is to die...
  22. They didn't have metal lines, so they had to be heavily invested. Otherwise people would have noticed them under his suit.
  23. I actually felt the character changes were natural. We barely got to know Steris in AoL and in the intervening months she's begun to relax, so we see more of her character. Marasi spent a good portion of the first book wanting to prove herself and struggling with both hero worship and a crush. She's since gotten over the latter two, received the first, and also been given responsibility as an officer. All of which has changed her. As for Wax, my feeling was that we never really met him in book one; he was mourning and trying to suppress his personality to do the 'right thing' by his house. By the time we get to book two he's found his balance.
  24. There are many that are though. It doesn't need to be all his followers. Just enough to get the information out.
  25. Considering that Kelsier seems to have given etmetal to the South, it's possible he ends up being the source of the name by revealing it in the Lost Metal (where he will have a cameo.) Alternatively, Harmony could tell his followers through their earrings.
