  1. Actually, this bugged me throughout WoR. After how often the sword was mentioned - it's one of the few named blades - and its role, I thought it would have a bigger impact in the story. Then we got the ending and I went 'Aha! It's the next book!' And that book then got named Oathbringer... @king of nowhere My belief is that dead Spren are trapped between the Cognitive and Physical realms, unable to transition and in constant pain. As a Blade they are brought more fully into the physical, allowing them to scream.
  2. Yay! My upvotes are back!!! Please have one @WhiteLeeopard I think Willshaper could work too; though that might be a slightly longer route. Just occured to me; if Adolin is exiled could he be our interlude character? Well, we'll find out soon enough. I wish it was Tuesday...
  3. I was agreeing with Adolin not being an Edgedancer. He could be a Stoneward (Dependable and Resourceful?) or a Willshaper (Resolute and Builder) as easily as a Dustbringer. I just really do not equate 'healing' with Adolin. I think Adolin has been very good at surprising Brandon. He wasn't even supposed to have a viewpoint in part one!
  4. @yulerule Agreed. Just going by attributes Chanarach is associated with Brave and Obediant. Who do we know who fits that? On the other hand Loving and healing are NOT the first words that come to mind. Specifically 'healing'; loving I can see. If it is going to be Adolin, I think his own Blade is too obvious. Which is where my 'Oathbringer is going to be the awakened Blade' started. If we ignore WHO will do it, and instead think of the Blades most likely to be revived, Oathbringer, due its significance, becomes the most likely candidate. @WhiteLeeopard I'm not certain Adolin will be the one to do it. I WANT him to be, but I'm not sure. As explained above I see Oathbringer as the most likely BLADE candidate. Adolin is the most likely HUMAN candidate. But right now I'm leaning more toward 'whoever ends up with Oathbringer will end up reviving the blade.' Though that may be due to me REALLY wanting to meet the revived Oathbringer...
  5. But that's just it. The Spren is dead and alive at once; the broken oaths holding it to this realm while not allowing access to it. As I see it, each new Ideal overwrites one of the broken ones. The more whole oaths and the fewer broken ones the less pain the Spren has and the more free it becomes. But until all the broken Oaths are over written they still exist, causing the Spren pain. Note that my theory assumes five broken Oaths; if there are only three broken Oaths only three new ideals need be spoken. And so on. Refresh my memory here. I've been working off the WoB that it's theoretically possible but almost impossible without the original knight. The original knight could, obviously, fix all the Oaths by reaccepting them.
  6. That... basically describes my opinion on the matter. I think part of the 'impossible' part is how painful it would be for both, possibly leading to the would-be Radiant giving up. Or going mad. Or both! The other parts being having the blade end up in the hands of a proto Radiant; the proto Radiant being meant for the blade's particular order; having said proto Radiant swear the first ideal; and not having another living Spren snatch up the proto Radiant first. Possible? Yes. Likely... We'll probably see it happen once. If we're lucky.
  7. Do we yet know where Chanarach, Vedel, and Battar have appeared?
  8. Note that Galladon has been on Roshar. It could also be a female herald.
  9. My thoughts are: Healing the spren depends on how far the initial radiant was on their Ideals. Assuming all five: 1st ideal - Radiant hears blade screaming. When not summoned the radiant hears half sensible words. The Blade can be summoned instantly. Immediately after saying the first ideal the Radiant can absorb Stormlight and the blade is briefly aware. After this the blade returns to screaming and the radiant no longer has access to surges. 2nd ideal- the spren begins to be more aware, but is often over come by pain. The Radiant can access surges in brief bursts. The spren is clearer when not summoned. The blade can morph very slightly but slowly and it is hard to notice. Surges are inaccessible when Blade is summoned. Radiant can see quick glimpses of their Spren at times but never clearly. 3rd Ideal - the Spren is far more lucid and is overcome to a lesser extent. Surges can be accessed more easily, and consistently. Strength is variable. Surges can be accessed inconsistently when the Blade is summoned. Radiant can now see their Spren flicker in out and the Spren can be seen clearly for brief moments. The Blade can change slowly into different shapes. 4th ideal - the Spren is almost entirely lucid but has occasional brief moments of blackout. Surges can be accessed all the time, but the strength still varies some. Surges are accessible when the Blade is summoned but are weaker. The Blade can change shape more easily, but still slower than unbroken Spren. The Radiant can now see their Spren consistently but others have trouble (when the Spren wants to be seen.) 5th ideal - The Spren is healed and everything is normal. I CLEARLY spent way too much time thinking about this.
  10. Actually I thought Dalinar would ask him to surrender his blade, which Adolin would do. Which has nothing to with what is typically done, but has more to do with what I think they would do. And this annoying tingling in the back of my mind that insists that Oathbringer still has a role to play. As an aside, I thought the color of the Lightweavers was magenta and the Dustweavers was crimson?
  11. Just to throw this out there: I currently have this weird theory. Basically, after Adolin is found out he is forced to give up his Blade; I'd think this would be common sense when arresting a Shard bearer. Then someone - my guess is Navani - convinces Adolin to run, on the grounds that anything Dalinar decides would be damaging. To help she, possibly with the guards aid, smuggles Oathbringer to Adolin. He uses it to escape, and it is Oathbringer, not his own blade, he ends up reviving.
  12. If you BURN an Atium-Lerasium Alloy it will make you a seer, because that's what Lerasium alloys do allomantically. But what happens if you TAP it, i.e. use it feruchemically? I do think that could create a Feruchemist. Note that it should be able to store everything too, and that you would have to tap the inherent investiture in the metal. As an aside, I still think Lerasium Feruchemy stores sentience.
  13. Five is half of ten and ten is significant on Roshar...
  14. @maxal There are actually 11 bones that form the wrist: the eight carpals (small bones that form the sliding joint), the ends of the radius and ulna (the lower arm bones), the meta carpus (the base of the hand). The eight carpals are what we typically refer to as the wrist. Odds are your daughter broke the two arm bones where they meet the wrist. Alternatively, she broke the Scaphoid bone, but the arm is not usually immobilized in that case. Do you know which bones she broke? I find it odd that the doctor told you there are two bones in the wrist, as this is clearly inaccurate. Adolin may have broken his carpals. If untreated this can cause permanent disability. Specifically, I think Adolin has a Lunate fracture. Lunate fractures are caused by direct blows to the wrist. If untreated the bone continues to break, ultimately leading to its collapse. If I'm right, Adolin has been continually rebreaking his wrist every time he moves. This can lead to Kienbock's disease; the constant pain and weakness in the wrist may be indicative of that. In general the wrist is prone to reinjury, as it is very hard to avoid moving it (which is why the whole arm is sometimes imobilized.) Because of the tight ligaments binding the wrist together, it is very possible that those have been damaged as well. Depending on how far the damage progresses before the wrist is properly cared for Adolin may need the bone replaced. Do they do bone replacements on Roshar? The other major possibility is carpal dislocation. It more commonly occurs when the wrist is fractured, but is uncommon regardless. The blow Adolin took could have caused it though. This typically requires surgery to fix, but can be easily missed when diagnosing the injury. It is typically diagnosed via X-ray. It can be a source of chronic pain. Even with rapid treatment loss of grip strength and chronic pain often results. There may also be other damage. Long story short, the wrist is REALLY complicated. And has WAY more than two bones (which I had to memorize for an anatomy test! The ankle is nowhere near as complicated!) For the record: Hamate, Scaphoid, Trapezium, Pisiform, Lunate, Triquetrum, Capitate, and Trapezoid bones. I did not bother putting these in order. The ulna and radius border one end; the meta carpus borders the other. The wrist has some of the smallest bones in the body and is one of four sliding joints (2 wrists and 2 ankles.) The eight carpals are tightly bound together with ligaments. It is one of the most commonly injured parts of the body, but fractures are uncommon and dislocations are rare. The Scaphoid is the bone most commonly broken. If you suspect a broken wrist an X-ray and a CT scan should be performed. Due to its complex nature wrist fractures may fail to appear on X-rays.
  15. I... never could figure out why anyone thought it was the Lord Ruler. I didn't know it was Kel for certain until we met Allik, but the actions didn't fit Rashek. Isn't there a WoB that he was referencing Kel's SH shenanigans? I seem to recall something like that...
  16. I am a huge fan of graphic novels, and comic books in general. It's why I also have major issues with White Sand GN. (Prose is great.) The graphic novel keeps insisting on telling me things when it should be showing them. But they don't even do a good job of telling the story. So the story told by the GN is my least favorite. But I love the prose novel. My least favorite prose book is WoA. I HATE love triangles. I LOATHE the whole Elend/Vin/Zane plot that insists on dominating the middle of the book. I like the politics, Elend's development, Tindwyl, TenSoon, and Marsh. But the romance mess made the rest of the story unpalatable. But you have to eat yucky vegetables to get dessert - and HoA made it all worthwhile.
  17. My favorite plot twists: Mistborn Aaaand, that's it for Mistborn. I'm too tired to do the others now...
  18. Cusicesh being stuck in a pattern is a major reason I think it might be a Bondsmith spren. It acts broken. We don't know enough about the Nightwatcher, but Cultivation is still around, so perhaps she protected 'her' spren? And the Stormfather was merged with a Cognitive Shadow, so that may explain why he still has a mind.
  19. Of course Kell met Odium... how else would he punch him?! Jokes aside, Kell probably has something to do with the SoScads leaving home in the first place. Beyond that I can't begin to guess at whether or not there is a connection. (But I think Iyatil has a Feruchemical steel medallion.) I suspect Kell has been to Roshar, but that's mostly because it's clearly number one on the top destinations for Worldhoppers. (So far we've had Baon, Galladon, Demoux, Nazh, Iyatil, Felt, Vasher and Nightblood. Probably some others I've missed, and I'm not counting Hoid or the Heralds.) But I doubt either has a direct connection to Odium.
  20. I know it's off topic but... Moses was twenty when he left Egypt. And one of the things he did as a prince was arrange a day off for the slaves. So that comparison is actually pretty inaccurate... Honestly, Ishmael is a better comparison, at least if we are going by the Jewish/Christian bible. On topic, there is the idea that if someone is coming to kill you, kill them first. Sadeas has tried to kill Adolin and Dalinar before, and just threatened to do it again. I think we can argue pre-emptive self defense here if we really wanted to. The only way for Adolin to be certain Sadeas was not going to harm him or his family was by killing him. It actually bears some similarity to an abused person killing their abuser.
  21. I think it had to do with their lungs and digestion. (They weren't effected by constantly breathing ash; they could digest the new plants.) The bigger question is how do Kell and Marsh manage? Since healing is based on self perception and they'd view themselves with the same lungs/digestive tract, I can't help but think that they keep 'healing' back to World of Ash baseline...
  22. If we are doing this, we should use a different rodent. Say... a rat?
  23. There are ways of doing surgery in-utero, so I don't see why we couldn't spike someone in-utero... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fetal_surgery
  24. Judaism and Islam both have similarities to Christianity, though the two are actually closest to each other. The reasons for this are fairly obvious as Christianity and Islam have a common root in Judaism. Interestingly, the three realms exist in Judaism. So do cognitive shades. (And extra dimensional creatures too!) Do they also exist in Mormon theology? I wondered if the concept was inherited, as the Jewish source is rather obscure and it is more likely that Brandon might have come across the concept in his own theology.
  25. We don't even know that Kell claimed to be king. He may have said 'I lead them,' or something similar and this was interpreted as him being a king. The whole thing is being translated too; it's possible that what Allik is thinking and what is being heard are two separate things. And Allik never struck me as the most knowledgeable regarding his people's myths. He could simply be wrong. We just don't know enough to say for certain. Which is why I felt it was better left ambiguous, allowing the Narrator and players to decide.
