I think creating the Perpendicularity was more a short term, (much weaker) Well of Ascension type burst. The difference being that Dalinar can repeat this effect. And it’s almost certainly one of those things Honor prevented Bondsmiths from doing while he lived.

Not exactly world hoppers (well some are)... but it was nice to hear from Saze! Anyone else think the second letter may have been from Bavadin? The avatar thing made me wonder. Really uncertain about the first...

I got all but the White Sand reference and Cob. Vivenna became obvious as soon as she said ‘like white on black!’ Vasher/Zahel uses the EXACT SAME phrase earlier in the book. So that one jumped out at me. I REALLY want Nightblood to be written now. It’s moved to second most desired (The Lost Metal is first.) Riino says ‘Merciful Domi!’ So that was clearly meant to be obvious. I’m really wondering about his sphere though... Felt I already knew, but was glad to see him again. Especially since I was looking for Scadrians. Anyone else wishing for better descriptions of the people in Mraize’s house? And HOW did anyone survive Patji?! And who was it?!

I have all the books, including MotP. I made the steel ministry account. Is it okay if I can’t play from around 4 on Friday to six on Saturday? (The exact times will change throughout the year.) I set up the Skype account, but I’m not entirely certain how this works. Do you give us a number and we all call?

If I have enough uninterrupted time, then very fast. If I don’t, then much longer. When WoR came out my son was a few months old and I finished in two days. Now he’s nearing four, has a sister, and Thanksgiving is coming, so it’ll probably take through Saturday.

Are Skype accounts free? Because I’d love to join then. But I’ve never actually played before, so I might be a bit slow at the start.

The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings, if you haven’t read them yet. The Wheel of Time The Belgariad (and the Mallorian) Those were my top three as a teenager. I also loved Piers Anthony. My favorite series of his was Incarnations of Immortality. Anthony is not clean though! (Xanth in particular. Do not be fooled because it looks like a kid’s book.) Some of David Weber’s stuff, though that’s more Si-Fi. The Khaavren romances by Steven Brust are basically fantasy!Three musketeers. I also read Artemis Fowl, but I only recommend the first four. Those are the ones I remember reading; the rest weren’t that great or I’d remember them better. (I’m not bothering to mention Harry Potter - that one’s a given.)

Mistborn: House War
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Themasterhunter's topic in General Brandon Discussion
@HerowannabeWhere are you guys located? How much does the game go for? Where can I buy it in NYC? (NOT limited to New York county, which is scarcely the only borough in my city.) Will the promo cards be available anywhere else? -
Cosmere tabletop RPG /DnD adaption
Kingsdaughter613 replied to BreathBecomeYours's topic in General Brandon Discussion
We really should do this. I love the DnD mechanics and dislike the Mistborn RPG ones. But I’d love to play a DnD style RPG in the Cosmere. -
Okay, so this isn’t exactly a typo; it’s an error that was not in error when WoK was initially published. Timeline changes have made this an error. There is also an actual typo; the bolded comma should be a semicolon. On page 971 of my poor, badly battered softcover there is this line: ‘Dalinar could remember the jealousy on that day some ten years ago, when the itch to attack Gavilar - the only worthy opponent he could see, the man who had won Navani’s hand- had nearly consumed him.’ The date should be 27/28 years ago, if I’m counting right. It is certainly not ten.

The WoB are all pretty recent and long standing. And those melee’s do not include character’s like TLR. Vin beating TLR was because she could use the mists and he was complacent. Ordinarily she would have died. She does not get the Mists in this fight. Kell did survive his death. It wasn’t easy. Which is irrelevant to this fight, because it presumes everyone knows the identities of the others. Besides, the use of Allomancy would be a good start at convincing her, and I’m sure Kell could bring her around.
-
There is another one that states that it would come down to Kell and Vasher. And another, specific to Kaladin and Kelsier, that Kaladin wins on the battlefield and Kell wins everywhere else. (Though Kal winning is because his squad helps, and he knows how to use an army.) Thanks for finding that WoB for me! The ‘or Vasher’ should have been in parethesis, due to not being essential to this topic.
-
Actually, the way psychopathy works is, as if, the psychopath has an empathy switch which they can turn on and off at will. And Kell is a neurological psychopath, not an actual one. (He fails the diagnostic criteria.) And Kell did stab Elend later. But who said anything about killing? There are other ways to win a fight. He just has to defeat her, not kill her. And Vin would hesitate to turn on Kell; in a knockout fight he wouldn’t think twice. And, again, there are numerous WoB that either Kell (or Vasher) would win in a melee.
-
It’s not about power. Or skill. Or anything at all really. Vin hesitates when Kell doesn’t. That’s all it takes. And Vin only killed TLR due to a very specific sequence of events, as Yata describes above. More importantly we do have a WoB on the subject which would indicate that Kell would win such a melee.
-
Vin will still hesitate when it comes to Kell. He won’t. In a fight between all ‘normal’ (not vessels or Hoid) Cosmere characters Kelsier wins (unless Vasher does) per WoB. So in a full power match he still wins...

They’re fan metals. The only exception is Cerrobend, which is another name for Bendalloy. Other names are Wood’s metal, Lipowitz’s alloy, MCP 158 and Pewtalloy. -

It doesn’t count as 16, since it is a blatant money grubbing scheme. All the information therin was previously published in other books. A lot of Silm fans are really annoyed, because we thought someone had actually turned the story into a novel. Grumble, grumble... More Silm: Lots of people (99%) die fighting an unwinnable war. When help finally shows up the continent sinks. And the villain is going to kill the sun and moon and come back. Atalante: Arrogant people rebel against God. God drowns them, except a handful of (mostly) good ones. The world becomes round (unless it always was that way; see Morgoth’s ring) and a continent leaves the planet. Oh, and the overly pretty dude is now stuck being ugly. Morgoth’s Ring: Weird elvish custo- Wait?! The world was always round?! Rings of Power: In which a grandson trying to make up for his family’s sins fails to learn anything from the war they had fought. (Seriously Tyelpe...) Beren And Luthien: Sauron is a wimp who is easily defeated by a girl and her dog. And now we want to know what was wrong with everyone in LotR. The attack on Sirion: Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. You can be heroes AND awful parents; be a villain and a good one. And who knew Elrond had Stockholm syndrome? Fall of Doriath: in which Luthien’s son behaves like a son of Feanor with predictable results. Death of Elu Thingolo: pay your debts or get stuck in increasingly vicious cycles of revenge. The Shibboleth: Seriously?! The ENTIRE TRAEDY OF THE SILMARILLION WAS CAUSED BECAUSE OF A STUPID LINGUISTICS ARGUMENT?!?!?!?! Elves... Alqualonde: the original sin and a giant mess. The darkening of Valinor: Trees die and Isaac Asimov’s Nightfall happens. And speaking of which: Nightfall- a planet of nyctophobes experiences night. And the stars cause madness. Aule and Yavannah: an overeager angel creates sentient life too early; fortunately God adopts them. His wife responds by created sentient trees. The fourth age: an interesting suspense novel that never happened. The bad guys’ cult grows. May have been intended to end with the biblical Flood. LotR: the single bright spark in an otherwise gloomy tale spanning from Creation to today -scratch that- to Armageddon and beyond.

This is supposed to just be a steel battle. Vin is stronger than Kell who is stronger than Wax. Wax has more experience with just steel than Kell (unless we have BoM Kell) and Kell has more than Vin. Both Kell and Wax are steel savants, but seem better in slightly different areas (Kell with focusing steel sight; Wax with deflecting.) Vin is not a savant. Wax fights more fairly than Vin who fights more fairly than Kell. Kell trained Vin and knows how she fights; Vin knows some of his skills but not others. Neither knows how Wax fights and vice versa. Wax is familiar with guns; Vin and Kell are not (unless this is BoM Kell.) Most important! Kell and Vin know each other but do not know Wax. So K&V team up and beat Wax. Then K turns on V when she doesn’t suspect (when fighting Wax?) K&V easily defeat Wax due to be considerably stronger than he is. Wax does put up a fight, but he is also being double teamed. Kell probably defeats Vin before she realizes he’s turned on her. If not, I still think he wins because steel is his specialty AND he knows exactly how she fights. He’s also more willing to hurt her than the other way around.

Mistborn Tarot: Spoilers for all books (Discuss)
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Kingsdaughter613's topic in Mistborn
The next card is the Lord Ruler, or the Emperor on our world. (The Strength card is called the Emperor on Scadrial!) The Emperor card upright symbolizes: authority, structure, father figure, and a solid foundation. Reversed it is: domination, excessive control, rigidity, and inflexibility. On Scadrial these are reversed, so the latter descriptions are for the upright card. Rashek is centered on the card. He wears a black cloak with a white lining. He also wears a black vest and boots, and white pants and shirt. The two colors symbolize Ruin and Preservation. On his vest are the sixteen allomantic metal symbols in white, symbolizing Allomancy, which he ‘gave’ to the North. He wears two metal armbands; they are his Atium minds which kept him alive. On his hands are many rings; his power as a Feruchemist. He sits on a black throne against a red sky, symbolizing the world of ash. Behind him are the seven ash mounts. His feet rest in a white pool: The Well of Ascension. As with the other cards this was done with pencil, inked and colored in oil pastel and metallic marker. The hardest part was the allomantic symbols on his vest. -
... about the last one... Man takes 17 years to write a book. Is unsatisfied with the published result and continuously revised subsequent editions for the rest of his life. The Silmarillion: man takes a lifetime trying to tell a story about a language he made up. Randomly tells a couple of other stories in the same world - which actually get published!- while working on the original. Never finishes; his son publishes FIFTEEN books (and counting!), trying to explain it all, inserting his commentary, interpretations and sometimes making significant errors. cough... Gil-Galad Fingon’s son... cough... (Beren and Luthien doesn’t count; it was all stuff published in other books.) Seriously, Tolkien has EVERYONE beat.

what do I read after the Stormlight Archives?
Kingsdaughter613 replied to qhizzle's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Edgedancer and Warbreaker. Then everything else in AU, except Hope of Elantris and SH (since you would already have AU.) By then OB should be out, so read that. Then Mistborn era 1, SH, Mistborn era 2. Then Elantris, then HoE. Then get the White Sand manuscript and Aether of Night. Then read everything else! -

Just read the article; where does Brandon imply that it’s not the Dark One?
