  1. I used to not know, but then I started learning German, which pronounces "J" like the "Y" in "yellow," so I don't have a hard time with pronouncing J's that way. Sometimes I do it too much, in fact. Once I actually called Scarlett Johansson "Scarlett Yohansson" because I hadn't heard anyone say her name out loud before (this was before the Avengers movie franchise was big), and my mom totally cracked up at that. Random side note: this is my 400th post!
  2. The album "Alpocalypse" by Weird Al Yankovic.
  3. Although finals are coming up at BYU, I looked at my schedule and it doesn't look like they should interfere with my being able to attend Cosmere Club for April.
  4. What goes through my head whenever I see this misspelling... You'd think Sharders, of all people, would take the time to spell it right.
  5. When your professor uses the word "preservation" and you laugh out loud because the first think you think of is Mistborn.
  6. You mean worse than they already were??
  7. The closest store to me is the King's English, which is about an hour of driving. But since April 30 is a Saturday, I think I will make the drive. I mean, free book!!
  8. That sounds about right. I seem to remember Brandon saying that Dalinar's flashbacks are from 30 years before the beginning of WoK, if he was 20 in the flashbacks, that puts him at about 50 in the present. If Ialai was also in the flashback (and I think she was), she might have been anywhere from 15 to 20 years old at that point, which would put her at age 45-50 in the present. If we're assuming Rosharian women's childbearing abilities are similar to those of Earth women, it would be a stretch for her to conceive at that age. My mom's 43 and is already experiencing menopause.
  9. I think you are right. The one where Dalinar goes out into the highstorm looking for his knife?

    Prof Colored Pencil

Thanks for the feedback, Chicken! I modeled the goggles in the drawing off the pair of goggles I use when I cosplay Prof.
  11. Thank you so much for getting that working! Don't feel bad about the delay; I realize all you admins have real lives outside of the Shard. Thanks again!
  12. Brandon's assistants were giving out Steelhunt cards of the Reckoners at his Calamity tour stops, and Brandon has been posting on Twitter and Facebook occasionally that he's gone into bookstores, Brandalized some of his books, and left goodies inside. When he was at Salt Lake Comic Con on Saturday, they were giving out Steelhunt cards there too, along with postcards of Newcago, Babilar, and Ildithia, and Reckoners bumper stickers.
  13. I'm just poking fun at you because I was so amused by how angry it made Alcatraz, the idea that anyone would skip to the end of a book. I'm not really bothered by it; I just couldn't resist making jokes about it since I love Alcatraz to death.
  14. Just listened to "Still Alive" and "Want You Gone" from the Portal games.

  16. Yes! Steelheart and the rest of the Reckoners books are all fantastic! Also, if you haven't read Warbreaker yet, I would recommend reading that and then re-reading the Stormlight books, particularly Words of Radiance. The epilogue to WoR will make more sense then.
  17. After seeing this post, I couldn't resist. Forgive me. There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary and those who don't.
  18. I second the Dresden Files suggestion. Jim Butcher also came out with another book recently called The Aeronaut's Windlass, which I enjoyed even more than most of the individual Dresden Files books. I would also recommend the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne if you haven't tried those books already. The Magic Ex Libris series by Jim C Hines is excellent as well. It's every bookworm's dream come true: the magic system in the books, libriomancy, allows its practitioners to pull fictional objects out of the pages of books. If you don't have an objection to reading fantasy targeted toward a YA audience, I highly recommended the Seven Realms series (first book is called The Demon King) by Cinda Williams Chima. It's an epic fantasy and a real emotional roller coaster, full of surprises and moments that had me trying not to crush my Kindle to death, they were so tense.
  19. Those are cool--particularly the inscription on the "Journey" packaging--but did you know that there is official Sanderson jewelry? Badali Jewelry has a whole line of Sanderson-themed jewelry, including Mistborn, Elantris, Stormlight Archive, and Wheel of Time stuff. Plus they've got themed jewelry from other movies and books, like Lord of the Rings, The Dresden Files, and the Iron Druid Chronicles.
  20. Movie theater
  21. Inspired by someone in the "What are you reading" thread who said they skipped to the end of a book: Spoiler for that same Alcatraz book (I forget which one it is... Knights of Crystallia?)
  22. Ok, I've got some. How do you put an elephant in the refrigerator? How do you put a giraffe in the refrigerator? All the animals had a meeting. Who was missing? You are on an expedition in the jungle and come to a river infamous for its man-eating crocodiles. You need to get across, but there is no bridge, you're alone, and you have no tools. How do you get across?
  23. Alcatraz is ashamed of you. Today I finished re-reading the Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima to gear up for the release of Flamecaster, the first book in a sequel series that takes place some 20 years later. I had forgotten how much I absolutely loved the ending of the last book. I was literally crying with happiness when I finished the last chapter, trying not to let my coworkers see because I was reading on my Kindle while I worked. I also plowed through all 467 pages of Seraphina by Rachel Hartman (also a re-read) today so that I'm not totally lost when I start the sequel, Shadow Scale. But before I get to that, I'm reading Cassandra Clare's latest book, Lady Midnight.
