Well, I guess I'll be in charge of pizza tonight then.

Granted. You are now never thirsty, but you have lost your ability to taste all beverages. I wish I could control the weather. -
Heh. I once read a book where the author asserted that broccoli was an alien plant and that's why so many people hate it. XD

Somewhat related: The Association Against Acronym Abuse (AAAA) protests and insists you rename the Alaskan Anti-Alien Aerospace and Armor Artillery.

Reminder: this is happening tomorrow! (It certainly snuck up on me...) Is someone in charge of bringing pizza?

That does not surprise me at all, since you ate an entire large cheese pizza by yourself last time at Cosmere Club. Bringing three pizzas was a smart idea on my part. XD Ugh. Waiting around in airports is soooo not my favorite thing. But huzzah for books! I have indeed read Coraline. It seriously creeped me out, but the movie disturbed me even more.- 1963 replies

From that description you don't sound threatening at all... Sometimes people are scared by tattoos. I don't suppose you have any of those in a visible place? Not saying it's a valid reason to be scared of you (plenty of nice people have tattoos), but it's a common one. This amuses me, since I have been known to pick up frogs, toads, praying mantises, grasshoppers, and snakes when I find them outdoors. People flip out about the weirdest things.

I finally got my hands on a DVD of Doctor Who Series 9, Part 1.

This post got a downvote? Did I say something offensive, or did somebody's finger slip on their mouse? And now for the reason I originally came in here: I finished Flamecaster and thought it was pretty awesome. The end had a few twists that caught me by surprise. I'm now about 60% into Truthwitch by Susan Dennard, since it seems to be getting a lot of hype. I'm enjoying it (thought the sea foxes were super cool creatures), but it hasn't AMAZED me yet.

Is no one going to mention "THIS IS SPARTA!!!" ? Disclaimer: I have not seen 300.

Now I really want to know what you two look like. What is it about your appearances that causes people to react to you in such different ways? On a related note, my dad is 6 foot 2 and sometimes sports a beard. When he has the beard, little kids are often scared of him.

Independence has driven me mad as well. Since I moved away from my parents, I have bought way more wall art than I have places to hang it and filled up two entire bookshelves plus several more shelves above my desk with books. (Not to mention the bazillions of books on my Kindle or the 2 more six-foot bookcases full of books that are still back in my bedroom at my parents' house.) I have so many funny and geeky T-shirts (mostly from TeeTurtle and Hot Topic) that some of them go months at a time without being worn. One year I bought a fully functional longbow made from PVC pipe for my Halloween costume, and since I started attending Salt Lake Comic Con in 2014 I've put together six separate cosplay outfits. Also, Twi, I read the first 6 chapters of your Harry Potter fanfic tonight (I've forgotten the title; forgive me!) and have really enjoyed it so far. I'll be reading the rest when I have time.- 1963 replies

Me being a native English speaker, I can't comment knowledgeably on how hard it is to learn as a second language, but I definitely agree with Gargoyle about many of English's quirks being because of how it evolved. Large portions of modern English vocabulary share history with German or are direct borrowings from French, Latin, or Greek, and we've adopted occasional words from many other languages. When we adopt foreign words, we usually keep their original spellings, so that explains some of English's weird spellings. But I also think the mishmash of borrowed words gives the language an amazing ability to create beautiful writing because there are different words for the same thing, or slight nuances of meaning that can be expressed by different words, or homophones that you can pun on, etc.

When your profile pic was Rey, I imagined you as a tough-girl badchull like her with a voice to match. Now... I'm imagining the voice of Yuuki Cross from Vampire Knight (subbed, not dubbed).- 1963 replies

I just watched "The Inside Man" tonight, so I'm several episodes behind the airing schedule in the US, but I just had to say that AlienWard is totally creeping me out. Random side note: does Malick's Inhuman telekinetic remind anyone else of George Takei?

That's totally awesome that your family gets to be bilingual together! My family has a weird mishmash of languages: my dad served his mission in Japan, I've had 2.5 years of college German instruction and am fairly proficient in it, my brother had a few years of Spanish in high school and like a year of Welsh since he's been at BYU, and my grandpa served his mission in Sweden and took some German courses when he was at BYU. So pretty much the only language we can all use to communicate with each other is English. XD

I love Brandon's non-Cosmere works just as much as the Cosmere books. I would say Reckoners is the most awesome, but I think Alcatraz is the most fun. I love how that series makes fun of the fantasy genre, readers and authors, and itself, as well as playing with your expectations, all while telling an excellent story. Part of the reason I like the Rithmatist so much is that I actually enjoy geometry (yeah, I know, I'm weird) and thought it was super cool to see it turned into a magic system. The Rithmatic diagrams at the beginning of every chapter are great too. I also recommend Legion (and the sequel, Skin Deep). It's fun trying to wrap your head around all Stephen's aspects, and in true Brandon style, they both have excellent twists in the story.

That sounds like a fun job!
