You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When you drive an hour to pick up a copy of the Stormlight Archive pocket companion, are told it's free with the purchase of any other book, and the book you choose to buy is the new illustrated edition of "Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians." -
Random Stuff VIII: The Admin Special

I remember reading somewhere that more and more people are needing glasses or contacts, a trend that has been linked to people spending more time indoors. Electric lights are only like a fraction as bright as natural sunlight, and when people spend most of their time in that relatively low-light environment, their eyes go bad faster; thus, more people need glasses. Also: I've listened to about half of Hamilton and I have to say, every time the "Aaron Burr, Sir" motif comes up, I am highly amused.- 1963 replies

Granted. $500,000 in cash appears under your bed overnight. However, when you discover it in the morning and try to deposit it in the bank, you are arrested for tax evasion. I wish for the ability to teleport. -

Excellent. I needed a bit of hair gel and a lethally heavy Frisbee. I will trade a bloodstained, holey sock.

Favorite Sanderson Villain?

Yeah. I wouldn't call him a true villain, though. His motives for the way he acted seemed decent to me. -

On the subject of Nutella and peanut butter: I love them both. (Creamy PB much more than crunchy.) I storming LOVE Reese's cups and have been known to eat creamy peanut butter straight out of the jar. Whenever I eat ice cream, I go for all the chocolate- and PB-type toppings. But on the subject of pet peeves--I was just reminded of another one of mine today. Those people who drive along in the right lane and turn their right blinker on but refuse to use the right-turn lane, forcing all the traffic behind them to slow down because they won't get out of the way.

Although they have been known to do good things, they can also both cause your heart to cease functioning. Steel Inquisitors are like gummy worms.

Finished Rebel of the Sands tonight and very much enjoyed it. GoodReads says it's the first in a series, so w00t! This weekend I will be starting The Price of Creation by Lance Conrad, an author I met at Fan-X who convinced me to spend $40 of the cash I brought to the con (out of $80) to buy three out of the four books he was selling. Still working on Codex Alera #3. Also, I discovered from reading an article on Tor.com that the graphic novel Kill Shakespeare exists. Does anyone have any opinions to share about it?

This bugs me too. I had a teacher in middle school who would talk to all us students like babies, calling us names like "Honey sugar pie" and so on. So I could not resist making fun of her when my grade put on a production of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" and I got to play Katherine. At the end of the play when I had become the perfect submissive wife and Petruchio called me onstage, I said to him, "What can I do for you, Honey Sugar Pie?" Also, I think people sound shallow and idiotic when they use "totes" or "adorbs" when they mean "totally" or "adorable"--especially together. Are you an adult? Yes. Then stop talking like a four-year-old.

Favorite Sanderson Villain?
Sunbird replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Some of the best heroes of books are technically criminals. The law is not always right, especially in fictional worlds. (One of my favorite examples of a book hero who is also a criminal is Eli Monpress from Rachel Aaron's book series named after the character.) -

When you spend a whole day with the word "Kharbranth" bouncing around in your head for no apparent reason... -
Be that as it may, the only place where I was able to find the version by Blue Swede to purchase was on the GotG soundtrack. (Random side note: I just realized that "Blue Swede" should not actually be pronounced the same way as "Blue Swayed" but rather as if you are talking about a person from Sweden who is blue. The correct spelling of that soft leather-type stuff is "suede.")

I hate the word "salient." I don't have a good reason, but I do have one: my freshman year at BYU, I had this civics professor who gave homework assignments that somehow managed to be both boring and difficult, and he would always talk about "Make sure to hit the salient points, everyone." So now I associate that word with that professor and all the angst that class caused me.

I get weirded out whenever I hear British actors putting on an American accent. Not because they're doing it badly, but just because I'm so used to hearing their voice with the British speech patterns. Similarly, after watching Stargate: Atlantis for years, I am always surprised to hear Paul McGillion talking with his natural American accent after watching him play Carson Beckett, a Scottish character, for so long.
