  1. Two things. 1. Mormon wine FTW! (Although I've found that I actually prefer sparkling apple cider to the grape kind. ) 2. I just about died laughing at your sister's unintended hilarity. Remind me to come back and upvote you when my quota is not used up. This reminds me of a Calvin and Hobbes strip:
  2. Every Peter Hollens song I own, which is quite a few.
  3. So I finished The Infinite Sea today, and I thought it was just kinda meh. Although I liked the portion of the story that centered on Ringer, I didn't like that her storyline eclipsed that of the other characters. Also, too much death. Also read through the first few chapters of Flamecaster, and after I finished chapter 2 these were my thoughts toward Cinda Chima:
  4. Glaucous gull
  5. Finished The Row today (see my post two posts up). Talk about suspense! I need to write a proper review for it... After seeing the movie adaptation of The 5th Wave today, I've decided it's finally time to read the sequel, The Infinite Sea. Soon I'll also be starting on Cinda Williams Chima's new book, Flamecaster.
  6. Well, in an interview at some point, Benedict Cumberbatch did say that the movie will have some "pretty weird crem" in it. (I'm paraphrasing here.)
  7. Congrats!! Where has he been serving? My brother got his mission call today. He'll be heading to the Adriatic North mission in August. (This mission includes Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Montenegro.)
  8. Click for punnery.
  9. @Cognizantastic, that is the best thing EVER. "Collaborative writing project." Heh. Way to make a bunch of bookworms pretending to be corrupt superheroes sound professional. (Disclaimer: in NO way do I mean to disparage RPers. I just find the disconnect between the insanity in the Reckoners RP and the officiousness of the phrase "collaborative writing project" hilarious.) Mortal Instruments spoilers: I don't even watch Supernatural and I got that reference. But that meme is the perfect response! *saves it for later use*
  10. Finished Death Weavers today, and it was awesome! My favorite installment in the Five Kingdoms series so far. Next on my list is The Row by JR Johansson. It won't be actually released until October, but Jenn was at Salt Lake Comic Con giving away ARCs, so I snagged one. (My first ARC ever! I never win the giveaways on GoodReads.) I expect to kept in suspense the whole time I'm reading it, if my experience with her Night Walkers series is at all representative of her writing.
  11. Yay! Someone to discuss the awesomeness with! Sort of spoilers for Five Kingdoms #2 and #3: Also, a PSA to the thread in general: if you haven't read Five Kingdoms #4, Death Weavers, yet, get on it! I finished reading it today and I think it's the best in the Five Kingdoms series yet!
  12. I am super uber excited for this movie! I think Benedict Cumberbatch is the perfect casting choice and I looooove what I've seen of his costume in photos from the set. My experience with Doctor Strange in the comics is mostly limited to his interactions with other NYC superheroes in their own comics, but he seems like he has a lot of potential to be a very interesting character--especially since Mr. Cumberbatch has proven that he is a very versatile and talented actor.
  13. I don't seem to have anything planned for that evening. Should work for me too.
  14. When you get all excited when you see that the Sanderson Memes thread has a new post, only to deflate when you discover that it was just someone replying to a comment.
  15. I'm imagining TLR tricking Obliteration into materializing inside a wall or around the point of a knife. Is that what you had in mind? 'Cause I think that would be AWESOME.
  16. I'm kind of the opposite; lots of times I will read the first book in a series and add the second one to my "to-read" list and never get around to it. Or it will take me months and months to get around to it. I kind of jump around from series to series spastically based on what's available from my library, what book signings are going on near me, and the phase of the moon. There are, however, some authors and series that I follow pretty religiously. Brandon Mull, for example. I started reading his latest "Five Kingdoms" book, Death Weavers, today, and have been absolutely delighted so far. I totally turned into a squealing fangirl earlier when I ran into some old character friends that I hadn't thought I was going to see again. (If I say anything more specific, it'll get awfully spoilery.)
  17. He's less of a jerk in the TV show. I haven't watched all the episodes yet, so I haven't gotten to the sibling reveal yet, but... City of Ashes spoiler:
  18. Well, after reading y'all's migraine horror stories, my bad day doesn't seem so bad now... Last night I was about to go to bed but couldn't find my cell phone, which I use as an alarm clock. So I spent a storming hour and a half searching for it, with no success. By this point it was 1:30 am and everyone else in the house had gone to bed, so I couldn't call my phone to find it by following the ringtone because 1) I had no other phone to call it with, 2) even if I had another phone, it's kind of hard to complete this task alone, and 3) I probably would've woken everyone up. So I messed around with my boombox, trying to figure out if it had an alarm function I could use. No such luck. Then I remembered there was an alarm clock/radio in the kitchen, so I grabbed that and fiddled around with it until I thought I had it set to wake me up at my usual time for 9am class. (I'm in college.) I went to bed, thinking that I could function without my phone for one day. When I woke up (on my own, mind you, not because of the alarm) and looked over at the clock, it was 10:30 and I had no chance of making it to any of my classes on time, since my last one started at 11am. Storming useless cremhole alarm clock. My grandpa and I eventually managed to find my phone by calling it. It had somehow ended up under my office chair in just the right position so that it was impossible to see from a standing position anywhere in the room. I'm still really mad that I missed all my classes today of all days, because it was the last day of regular class for Monday/Wednesday/Friday classes before finals this semester, and I was supposed to a presentation for extra credit in one of them.
  19. Not to mention the nonexistent language barrier. XD
  20. I personally think the TV show is pretty awesome, but then, I'm a diehard fangirl of the books... They're not sticking strictly to the plot or order of events in the books, though, so it might be different enough that you'll enjoy it more than you did the book. Things I like about Shadowhunters: Magnus Bane is funny and charismatic and quirky, as he should be. Simon is properly adorkable, geeky, and funny. I finally know how to pronounce "stele." (It's STELL-ay) Some of the episodes I've watched recently have really tugged at my heartstrings. ("Bad Blood" and "Rise Up," specifically.)
  21. I watch this show and need a little clarification about this post. Did you mean that the critique was written by some online personality other than Cassandra Clare, the author of the books, and it was the author of the critique who called Magnus an emo cockatoo? Or were you referring to Cassandra Clare when you referred to "the author"? I personally love how Magnus is being portrayed in the TV show. Much better than the weirdness the other version of him displayed in the City of Bones movie.
  22. Soooo....do we have any proposed dates to meet this month?
