  1. This sounds suspiciously similar to how naming worked in the kingkiller game which is to say it would probably be a pretty cool rule, if handled properly.
  2. Well then. Interesting. How many neutrals are in this game??? Do you know what the alignment of your target is? Also how does your scan work. Aaliyah noticed that there was a roughly human-shaped source of water crouched around the corner of the hospital building. She sighed. It was useful and all, but sometimes, she wished she could just turn her powers off. "Hiding from something?" she asked.
  3. On her way out, Aaliyah saw sword-man disappear through some kind of portal. Well then.
  4. Well huh. A jester, I guess? Gotta love jesters. Might be my favorite role, honestly. Guess it explains why Majestic didn't defend himself. Mornin' folks, anyways. Soo... Two "bad guys" died, if I'm reading this right. Pretty decent start. And two attacks. One from the malcontents and one from the reckoners, probably? And one of them failed. If there's a protective role, don't reveal yourself, but... Elith, you already revealed that you had a protect power (for 1 cycle, so it wasn't really a reckless thing to reveal), so, did you protect Crimsn by any chance? Also pk why you do dis generally I hold that wanting to lynch me is perfectly normal behavior, but still, there's a jester so I can't help but wonder if there's an executioner too Anyways, the cycle is yet young, and I'm behind on RP!! Aaliyah walked into the hospital. "See! Someone gets it!" The sword-guy yelled behind her. "That wasn't- oh nevermind," she said under her breath. Aaliyah pressed the elevator button. And waited. The elevator door slid open smoothly with a soft ding, exposing a roomfull of diseased corpses. "Oh." Aaliyah carefully set the medical supplies down on the floor, then turned around and left the hospital. Guess the hospital will be closing then. She could still see the forcefield epic off in the distance. She'd never heard of this one. Probably one of Balelight's new pets.
  5. Did somebody say INSANITY??? I probably shouldn't, but I'm in. Looking at the list of approved rules... Each faction has a faction ability. The power of the faction power is directly proportional to the difficulty of the faction's approved win condition. This faction ability is appointed by the GMs, once the GMs approve the faction's decided win condition. It could be basically any action, be it roleblock, vote manip, protect, kill, or anything else. A single player may not be part of more than 5 factions.
  6. "Arriving. Your destination is on the left." Aaliyah parked on the street next to the hospital. It was a wonder the old car was still running; it was from before Calamity and therefore practically an antique. Automobiles were a rarity in Mirialis nowadays, but they were a necessity to keep institutions like the Mirialis hospital stocked (once it might have had a proper name, but that was a long time ago). It was as good an occupation as any she'd had recently. It was an occupation that inhabited the grey area between excessive oversight and excessive interaction with Balelight and her slaves. She fetched the box of medical equipment from the trunk and walked up towards the hospital. She heard gunshots. Commonplace. Apparently there was some kind of forcefield epic running about. On the way in, she saw some guy holding a battered sword, asking a "police officer" for help against the forcefield epic. Asking a police officer for help? As if police were even a thing anymore. "Nice sword, ya slontze," she said as she passed him. @Elithanathile
  7. It's okay, I'm sure the puns are pretty epic I'll just show myself to the door now then
  8. Name: Aaliyah Cross. She never really got a proper chance in that last QF Designation: Low Epic, Water Epic Primary power: Scrying, a form of basic precognition where she can envision possible dangers in the reflections of water surfaces. This danger sense works in a way suspicously similar to Dusks' Aviar. It does not classify as an invulnerability prime power, unlike some cases of precognition, but it still has prevented her death a number of times. Secondary power: Able to sense water nearby. The most useful application of this is that it includes the water in people's bodies. Tertiary power: Minor speed and agility boosts. Weakness: Her weakness shall remain undisclosed, because really, what would be the fun in that? Epic Name: None. See below to explain why. Background: Aaliyah grew up in Mirialis. Well, it wasn't always called that. Before it was called something else. It was back then that Calamity made her an epic. Four months before Balelight took over. Rather than joining this new epic, Aaliyah concealed her powers, pretending to be just another loyal citizen of Mirialis. She refused to become one of Balelight's slaves. She still goes along with Balelight's regime though, because, really, what choice does she have? It's sometimes difficult to hide from the dousers, but she gets by. It helps that her scrying can warn her ahead of time. Like all epics, Aaliyah is warped by the influence of calamity. She is definitely better than most of them, but she's been getting worse, especially since using her scrying power is pretty much involuntary whenever she sees a reflective surface of water. Since she masquerades as a regular citizen, most people think she's just super grouchy. She doesn't have many friends because of that, unfortunately. Would anybody like to be her friend?
  9. I need a proper character...
  10. On the contrary, we've just caught all of them. But, as things are right now, we can't do much about it. I'd be absolutely willing to tie the game instead of take the test. But Drought helped the eliminators hammer the village. Why would he suddenly pull a heel face turn?
  11. Are they doing better than the forest in the court though? If inactives didn't count for parity, we'd have already lost. If you think we have any hope in the Court, I'm game to give it a go and fight a nearly impossible fight. But otherwise, I'm running to the hills. I only have one button left to press (I mean, I'm roleless, so I never really had that much to do anyway), and by Braize I'm gonna push it when it counts.
  12. ...and we've just been hammered. Drought, why you do dis And to kill the vig, no less. You had a scanner, didn't you? I'm guessing this game is only still running because inactives count towards parity? I can see why that would be, given that the game exists in two threads and all. Well, I suppose I can say that I was right, but it's game unless Meta and some others miraculously show up. Well hey. If it's pretty much game... And there's very little that can be done... And nobody ever even tried out that test mechanic... Bye?
  13. <bad pun>You can't be robin hood without robbin' people first. And I'm pretty sure you don't like theft.</bad pun>
  14. Heyo fellas. I caught up on LG37 and now I've caught up on this one. I was gonna do some RP, but then I realized I don't have a character yet. I should have one invented in short order. I'm open to suggestions though. Anyways... I mean... You just claimed to have sedatives though... Should I vote on you then...? Well, I'm a recent convert to the gods of RNG, so I'm game.
  15. I mean, the rules about this conversion aren't really all that open... And it's possible to balance things in spite of a 1-sided conversion effect. I know it isn't certain, but it's the most probable explanation I can think of, given what Drought said. And I'm willing to take the risk by operating on that assumption. I don't think there are any "safe options" left. Given that this game listed a large number of the roles beforehand, I still feel surprisingly in the dark about a lot of these things. Oh dear. Well, even if this isn't just Aonar trolling, I figure that whatever Drought would become is better than a Serial Killer, and it seems an elegant solution to vote him as medium, and thus remove the threat of one of the kill roles in the game. But, all that aside, there's something I missed, here: Good point. So I figure that makes both you and budgie evil. I'm still confused at some of what Orlok's been doing, and if the game doesn't end on this cycle, I'll be looking over his posts and all. But, Elbereth. I know you don't think eliminators would necessarily be immune to alignment conversion, but this seems to make by far the most sense to me. If we have an active demi-fire elemental, I'd seriously consider attacking budgie tonight...
  16. Excellent. In that case I'm definitely voting to make Drought medium. It means we get rid of a Serial Killer, and Drought gains a new chance to win the game. It's win-win. What about if they kill all their former team mates, then? No need to out any of them in-thread. You could even go on to claim responsibility for the deaths as a demi-fire elemental... And would the newly converted eliminator be removed from their old doc? That creates some interesting issues. It's possible that eliminators can be converted. I'm sure Aonar could make that work. But I find it much more likely that eliminators are simply immune to conversion. Do you have an alternate explanation for somebody being immune to conversion? The only other thing I can think of is the medium, only I'd say there's less reason to make the medium immune than there is to make an eliminator immune. It has occured to me that you possess a zeta-induced alignment that is not whitelegs. Like that "empty" thing on the forest thread. That said, if you aren't converted, that has some very interesting implications. I wish we had some breathing room to guess inccorectly, but I suspect that we don't.
  17. Well hello folks. I'm back. Lets catch up, then. Brace yourselves. Wall of text incoming. Three deaths... And one of them our medium. One of these is the eliminator kill, I presume. However, it looks like the number of kills-per-cycle has dramatically increased after zeta activated. I remember last-last-cycle in the forest thread, two people died revealing the alignments "whitelegs host" and "empty," so I'm guessing we have new kill roles on our hands. Also, Elbereth, why weren't you protecting STINK? It is worth noting that it appears that the villages on both sides are losing. I guess that means Court and Forest are about tied? Are you asserting that there were two eliminator kills? How would that work? Why do you automatically assume that STINK was an eliminator kill? Do you know something the rest of us don't...? I don't support lynching Flash at the moment, but when the village has more breathing room, I will note that I find this detail alignment indicative. Yup, sounds about right. Are you sure going after a zeta alignment should be prioritized over going after eliminators? We're dangerously close to being outnumbered by elims at this point. Also. The mediumship. First of all, I'm not going to be running for it. It's probably too late for that anyway. If anybody particularly wants they can vote on me I guess, but I'm not planning on making an effort to gain the position. Second of all though. Why are you suddenly interested in it? I mean, I understand that you supported STINK earlier in the game. But you also actually suspected other people who ran for the position. If running for the position is to be considered suspect, why have you suddenly decided to pursue it? Particularly with no prior interest in the position? Interesting... Interesting. You do have some points here, but I withhold my judgement. Hm. So you are the whitelegs / SK. That explains why you made such an insightful post about them earlier As crazy as it sounds (maybe I approve of craziness) I could get behind that. But first, it would be nice if our GMs could confirm that you don't retain your old win condition if you gain mediumship. @Aonar Faileas Because the eliminators retain their old win con, so why not SKs as well? For now, I will provisionally vote on Drought for medium, but I would very much like to hear confirmation on my question. It seems like something pretty important that we should all check before we go through with this. I'm actually reading pretty village from this post, where before I'd have been quite willing to lynch budgie. That means somebody who got sucked in there was probably an eliminator. Eliminators being immune to alignment-changes is kind of a thing. If there's a game with a conversion faction and an elimination faction, it is pretty common for the elimination faction to be immune. The only other role that could possibly gain immunity to alignment-changing is the medium, but I find that unlikely because the medium is intrinsically of a variable alignment. Hm. I will reference this a little further down in my wall of text, I think. Now, game analysis. A lot is happening, all of a sudden. Things are moving very quickly, and I sense that the game is going to be over a lot sooner than we expect it. And we need to act. Lets take a look at what's been happening. Three kills last night. One the eliminator kill. The other two, presumably the result of zeta-induced serial killers (either whitelegs or something similar). Budgie, Orlok, and Elbereth are the last surviving people who went into the shadow dimension. Drought's testimony tells me that one of them was an eliminator. Chances are, I doubt a second deflection-type event occured. Orlok makes a compelling case for Elbereth being converted to a Serial Killer. Quite possibly an accurate one. But his big push to get the Serial Killer lynched is also an attempt to avoid himself being lynched, by catching the Serial Killer. It is rather annoying to be suspected for the wrong reasons, I suppose. I get this feeling that he is trying to distract us with the whitelegs hosts. And while Serial Killers are a very valid threat, we need to take out eliminators. Especially since the whitelegs hosts are no longer capable of winning this game. I posit that budgie was untouched by the shadow dimension. Orlok and Elbereth both attempted conversion. In addition (probably a result of a totally independent dice roll), Elbereth was attacked. But, as protector, survived. The conversion attempted on Orlok failed, and was deflected to Drought. If Drought is telling the truth about his conversion, anyway. But if that's a lie, it's a storming brilliant one. In the wake of this string of extrapolations, I think it would be fitting to analyze the rest of the players: Locke Tekiel (Orlok Tsubodai)- Eliminator, if my conjecture holds. Elbe (Elbereth)- Whitelegs host or similar alignment. @Elbereth, seeing as whitelegs hosts may no longer win, would you be willing to take a similar route as Drought did? Budgie (A Budgie)- Probably village, in my opinion. Caveat: If either Lopen or Elbereth are currently villager, by process of elimination this means budgie must be evil. Carrie Brule (Burnt Spaghetti)- I'm sorry I didn't PM you earlier to get a firmer read. I'm still worryingly neutral on your read. But I do notice that, if I analyze Orlok's few posts about you, it looks a lot like it could be distancing. Clanky (Clanky)- Has been semi-active... Went after Lopen, who was a villager, but then, I did too. If Orlok is indeed evil though, I think we can assume that this clears Clanky, or very nearly does, anyway. Anwir (Drake Marshal)- Not applicable. Form your own reads about me, thanks. Anansi (Metacognition)- Total inactive, and has told us in advance that he has IRL things. I'm sorry to see Meta gone For game purposes, though, we should basically consider him as dead. Lyren (Droughtbringer)- Whitelegs host. Previously a villager, if my conjecture that eliminators are conversion-proof holds. Shqueeves (Shqueeves)- Pretty much inactive. Similar situation to Meta, although Shqueeves is active enough that conceivably they could put in a kill order, if they ended up being the last member of the eliminator team. Pickle (asterion)- Another inactive (correct me if I am wrong about that, I haven't been able to search up all of asterion's posts). Bart Allen (Flash)- Probably an eliminator, honestly. I would probably support lynching Flash next day cycle, to keep the village from losing. So. If the original number of eliminators was 3 (if it was 4, we've already lost, I figure), we are now possibly at 4 due to Flash's arrival. After my analysis, I conclude that one of them is Orlok. If I had to guess right now, I would guess that the remaining members of the team are Burnt, 1 of the inactives, and quite probably Flash. @Flash @asterion137 @Shqueeves @DroughtBringer @Metacognition @Clanky @Burnt Spaghetti @A Budgie @Elbereth @Orlok (Um... why do mentions keep breaking is there some kind of limit to the number of mentions you can make in a single post) We need to mobilize and vote. Assuming that when we vote Drought as medium, he won't kill us anymore, we are still at risk of 2 kills tonight, dropping us to 9 players. If you assume 3-4 eliminators and consider that we may also have inactive villagers, we are probably currently at lynch-or-lose. I advise you choose very carefully. And now, I'm off to go take a look at MR24. Peace out y'alls.
  18. It can be a little slow in the middle, and some people don't like the book as much as others in the series, for that reason. But I think the ending makes up for it, honestly. It's one of my favorite endings in a book.
  19. Perhaps it would be more apt to say that Shin lacks the usual phenomona seen across the rest of Roshar.
  20. According to your signature, you are currently reading the Well of Ascension. What are your thoughts on the book?
  21. Hmmm... What are the origins of your profile picture? What kind of bird is it?
  22. Gonna be busy today but hopefully I'll get some time to make a proper post tonight
  23. Wow, thats a lot going down I'm going to be kind of busy today, but I'll have a lot to say once I have the time to
  24. In some games, removing an inactive and letting their alignment flip might be good. I do wonder how that impacts the balance of the game though, as opposed to leaving inactives in-game with their alignments unidentified. Hmm... What I'm referring to isn't really parity (endgame conditions), so much as game mechanics that specifically say "50% or more of living players must vote for this for it to happen." I was pleased to see that, in the case of the medium vote, Aonar put "50% of living, active players must vote for this." I don't think it has been done before. I just remember, in some game (don't remember which), one of the players basically asked the eliminators, "please post something if you are going to submit a kill, so that we at least have something to work with." And I figured, that could be a rule. I kind of doubt people would use it either, particularly since, in this case, I would be defining it as "total inactive," meaning they didn't post at all in the given cycle. This is one of the reasons I am skeptical about using this mechanic. That said, it's not a complete loss to kill two inactives, because it gives the village even less information to go off of then you normally get from eliminator kills (which, admittedly, isn't very much at all in the first place, due to the IKYK scenario it creates). Honestly, the main reason this idea has any appeal at all is because it may push the game away from prioritizing active people as targets as much.
