  1. I was very baffled when he appeared, I had no idea who he was and I thought that I missed something... but I didn't, so I just ignored it.
  2. Do you mean recursion? It seems like a recursion, but it's a very basic concept so I'm not sure I understood you properly...
  3. Roshar is poor in metals. Aluminum was insanely rare even on Scadrial, a planet very rich of metals and aluminum requires advanced purification methods (unless you mine it from the inside of the volcano, like they did in Final Empire). So the only source of aluminum would be obviously Soulcasting. Now, I don't know how it works with the strange qualites of aluminum... But remember that there are Trueselfs who have aluminiumminds and they have no problem with it and that there are (possibly) aluminium spikes. On the other hand, it cannot be affected by Allomancy even though it's an Allomantic metal. tl;dr: Aluminium is rare and very weird.
  4. I tried to catch up with what is happening in the comics... You see, I don't know very much, the last I checked it was Flashpoint event and then DC52 craziness (Flash carried a letter from Thomas!Batman to Bruce!Batman, but in JL:War he didn't know Batman. I'm confused.) and then there was some craziness about Bruce dying and losing memory and Gordon shaving and becoming RoboBatman and Superman being exposed and losing powers and locking himself in a box full of kryptonite which gave him powers and there was also something about Darkseid being killed and New Gods being replaced be Leaguers and Luthor becoming Darkseid 2.0... ... and at that point I had to lay down and wait until my head stops hurting. ... and wasn't there something about god!Doom fighting God!Batman or some such...? ... and now Dr. Manhattan is showing up and what's he doing exactly?
  5. It was stated that not each Breath is equal to another Breath, so Heightenings are indeed "more or less that amount". I know what you're saying, I wondered about this too: One Brath equals normal life span, more Breath extend the lifespan, 5th Heightening worth of Breath equals infinite lifespan. Even if we go with exponential growth, you can't just "reach" infinity. But I believe that 5th Heightening would in fact sustain you indefinitely long. We just don't know how it works.
  6. So, what kind of things involving Metalborn would you want to see? (or even without Metalborn, but set on Scadrial) Any kind of scene, be it action (fight, chase, novel application of powers) or non-action (passing a law enforcing Metalborn registration, or idea for a new transport system), anything. I've seen people comment that there should be a Steelpushing fight on skyscraper construction site. I personally want to see two Coinshots/Lurchers going at it without any metal on them... except the fact that somebody detonated a metal dust grenade in the room (like that silver dust bomb from 1:58) so the room is filled to the roof with metal dust. I think that it would be quite awesome to see more of using metal dust. Also, molten metal. As for the another idea, BoM spoilers
  7. Wrong analogy. Throwing a shield should be compared to firing a projectile (like shooting coins) while ripping things apart is a whole different thing. Aiming systems, heat-seeking, homing missiles...
  8. (Note: I live in Poland, Brandon was largely unknown here until Way Of Kings came out in the first half of 2014 but really gained popularity after WoR came out at the end of 2014 followed by rerun of Mistborn which started in the June of 2015) I dropped by my old library and on my way out I found that they had a huge list of suggestions from readers to order new books. I read through it out of curiosity - many entries "more vampire books" or requesting some of specific series, a few of "more Harry Potter so there would always be a copy avalaible" (anwered with "that is not possible, some will always be loaned") and so on. So I picked up a marker and added another entry: "Brandon Sanderson". The world needs to know. (for the record, it's borderline impossible to acquire a Brandon book from the library - I live in one of the biggest cities and there were like 20 copies total spread thorughout the whole city back in 2015)
  9. I confirm, it's exactly as it happens to me. EDIT: I drank the coffee through dark chocolate I was chewing, then I threw five ice cubes into (another) cup and filled with cola. Exams, here I come!
  10. You're all assuming that Steelpushing and Ironpulling generate enough force to rip Iron Man's armour. I am not so sure about that.
  11. Well, I'd say that seeing so many people deeply enjoy his books and hear them express that joy in person and also see the people to dive so deep into the worlds he created and figure them out and constantly ask about them is quite a motivating experience. It's one thing to hear "I liked your book, it was a very pleasant read" and another to see a Realmatically-obsessed Sharder rapidly fire thoughtful, complex questions at you about the universe you created. It's a thing not many people can experience and I'd say it's very motivating. Keep theorizing, people!
  12. Is the double posting because so many people are posting at the moment? When I posted, instead of the edit-box becoming actual post, nothing happened. I had to open the topic in another tab to confirm that I in fact posted already. EDIT: Again.
  13. Why wait? I mean, unless all the clubs deny him, the situation probably won't get better. EDIT: Oh right, the year is ending, summer is coming. Yeah.
  14. Sea shanties. It's the worst when I can't remember a line.
  15. Is it possible to attract more than one spren of the same type? (I'm talking about Nahel spren) We know it's theoretically possible, while very difficult to be a member of two Orders. But is it possible two attract and maintain a bond with two or more spren of the same type? A Windrunner with two honorspren, for example.
  16. They even explicitly said that "humans had a Surgebinder". I believe they said something about "spren betraying them".
  17. Yeah, I'm with Mestiv here. How would these people know how to use computers? They first appeared when they were already old, so they didn't need to use them to work or anything. For them it's that magic box that appeared lately (in the last decade or decade and half) and took over the world. For us it's something we grew up with. Some of them are really amazed that they can just press some buttons and do a video chat with their grandkids half a country away. Remember what the world was when they were the age we were introduced to computers. For you, computers were there for the most of your life. For them, the electricity wasn't always there. (I suppose)
  18. I am not shaming anyone. I am not even demanding anything. I just expressed a desire to know what of the things I said was so wrong. I tried to make my point as unoffensively and calm as I could. Since people don't downvote just out of disagreement, I must have said something which was offending to someone and I want to know what. What's inappropriate about that? If somebody was so hurt or offended that chose to downvote me... Haven't you thought that maybe I want to apologise to them or explain my point better? That's offensive to you? Also, I don't care about my reputation, I even said that in my post, why are you bringing it up? My pet peeve are people in power who try to silence people who disagree with them. So I think your saying "the matter is closed and we should not discuss it anymore" is inappropriate.
  19. The soul's age is stored in Spiritual Aspect. How you see yourself is Cognitive Aspect and while it might have some influence (we know it has in healing), it doesn't matter much. Becoming Elantrian or being on Fifth Heightening lets you live indefinitely long, so I suspect it works by messing with that Spiritual Age. On the other hand, atium Feruchemy doesn't affect Spiritual Age, so that's why even Fullborn cannot live forever (that is, using only their Compounding powers).
  20. Yes, but they work by stopping aging - Gold Compounder ages normally.
  21. I'd like the person who downvoted my two last posts here to speak up. Not that I'm particularly sad at my rep going down, but if you want to tell me something, please do so. You can PM me or anything, I am not sure what of the things I said deserved a downvote. Also, upvote for Mestiv, since that's what I wanted to say.
  22. I'd rather very much that the defeat of White Walkers would happen without the dragons. Because it reduces Jon and Bran and Bloodraven and Benjen and Night's Watch and many others role to just "get Daenerys and her dragons to help us". Everything they did and suffer and sacrifice reduced to laying the path for Daenerys to just come and wipe out White Walkers. I'd prefer Bran rising to power in supernatural, while Jon and Sansa reunite the North and lead them and Night's Watch against Others. Also, I'd like more of this:
  23. Well, because it kinda is. Unless you set the story in Japan, or Kazachstan, or Kongo or somewhere where white isn't default skin color. The last I checked, England had majority of white skin color. People tend to see things like that as "default unless noted otherwise". No mention for Hermione = she's white, especially when all the black characters get mentioned as being black. It's clear she was intended to be white, furtherly reinforced by casting Watson in the films. Rowling would have surely said something then, if Hermione was black. At that point, I'd want to remind you that I'm not arguing that it's bad casting choice, I'm arguing that Rowling contradicts her books. The way I see things, it isn't about casting black person as Hermione as much as Rowling going "hey I didn't really write her as white" which she rather clearly did. People are mad that she once again messes with the books. The whole issue would be a lot less heated if she just said that she has no problems with the casting choice. But then she started to mess with the books and, given my interactions with the HP fandom, that's not to be taken lightly. (I'm well aware that there are also regular racists in that debate, but I don't care about them.) ---- Funny thing: In Earthsea, it's white people who get mentioned for their skin color (since default is red-brown) and nobody tries to argue that Sparrowhawk could have been white since his skin wasn't mentioned.
