Mr. Sanderson, oh how I want to punch you!!!
Oversleep replied to alexanderkeeton's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Pretending to be solipsist won't get you anywhere. BTW, how are, for example, "Shadows of Self" kiddy? It eludes me. -
There was a fairly developed thread discussing SA blurbs. So for now, unless somebody has some other WoB, I'll take Peter's tweet as official confirmation of Khriss being the author of Ars Arcana.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Oversleep replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
@TwiLyghtSansSparkles, @Delightful So I'm not the only one living with Random Number God? I mean, one time my mother is nice and everything, then she's upset about something and she looks for somebody to unload and then storm starts and everyone's yelling and I just want it to end... It was particularly bad when the company she worked for was in downfall. *Shivers* Additionaly she is often despotical. My sister is also quite a arguing person. Add the fact that my mother and my sister seem to react allergically to each other's reprimands... On one day I have a very nice family, on another I have hell's kitchen for a home. Life.getRandom(); -
I've decided to buy White Sand... and then it turns out that the store which had it at reasonable price displays "product unavailable" and the only other store have it at 150% of the price! AAAAAAAA!!!! panic! Mailed them and asked if I could still get it

Can Investure be destroyed or not? Conflicting quotes.
Oversleep replied to Cartographer7's question in Cosmere Q&A
The classification of end-variable takes into context only the user and not the Investiture source. That way, if no Investiture enters or leaves the frame of reference, it's end-neutral. IInvestiture can enter frame of reference or leave it. If more Investiture comes in than leaves, it's end-positive. For example, in Surgebinding Investiture comes in form outside, some leaves as vapor, and the rest is 'used up' in manipulation of the Surges. If more Investiture comes out than leaves, it's end-negative. -
It's similar to copper - you can store different memories in copper. Similarly, you can store various powers in just one nicrosilmind. The Bands contained various metalminds + nicrosilmind, all of them filled to the hilt. Nicrosilmind contained abilities required to tap the other metalminds.

You kind of did in your first post. See, you're not afraid of Muslims. 'Islamophobia', when looked at from linguistic point of view, means phobia of islam while you're talking about being afraid of muslim terrorists. That way you implicitly associated 'muslim terrorists' with 'muslims'. It should be "fear of islamic terrorists' or whatever, but the way it's worded here it means being afraid of the whole religion. And fear of the whole religion is irrational. Do you see my point? I'm not sure I explained myself clearly.

When we had WWII literature period in our set texts (you know, the mandatory books you go over in class?) I was a little depressed. Especially when you read not descriptions, but accounts of the survivors, the books they written. I can't exactly describe what I want to say, but the most depressing wasn't going over all the death and inhumanity that was happening. The truly terrifying was that familiarity of death, nearness of it. That it was haunting over every word they said, every action they took and every event that happened. It was seeping from everything. On a lighter note, I don't know whether I should buy White Sand. Before you all scream at me that I totally should, I want to add that I don't know whether I should buy White Sand now. See, the Polish publisher of Cosmere books said they won't publish a graphic novel (cause they do books). There is a plan to interest some comic book publisher in translating it, but none of us has ever done something like that (trying to get someone interested in publishing something). And even if we manage to do it, there is no guarantee they will translate it 1) right and 2) consistently with the books. It seems that I should just get my White Sand in English and be done with it, right? I could read it just fine, but my mom also reads Sanderson and I don't think her English is good enough to read it...

In fact, the only mistake you're doing is wrongly associating all followers of Islam with terrorists. The part about phobia is good.

We have good nomenclature here. Introducing new terms is going to make it harder to understand. From what I read here it seems you misunderstood how nicrosil works. It allows you to weaken abilities and later strenghten them by tapping nicrosil. But to be able to tap specific ability, it first had to be stored there. So if there is a charge only for Tin Feruchemy, you can only become Tin Ferring for the time of tapping nicrosil. Bands of Mourning contained all the Allomantic and Feruchemical powers and only them; only those can be tapped. (The bit about all the powers is unconfirmed - I don't know how could you make a medallion gifting aluminium Feruchemy, for example)

You make good points there, but I think you're not completely right. BTW, the Law of Comparability: The amount of Breath required to Awaken something isn't necessarily indicative of its power once Awakened. So maybe those 1000 Breaths doesn't mean as much as we think they mean. Anyway, we know that Spearhead is less Invested than a Shardblade... but that's not what the thing is about! It's about the absurd amounts of nicrosil charges which in turn allow channelling much, much more power than it's thought possible. Normally some amount of Investiture flows through Allomancers, more when flaring, more when savantism is there, but tapping Spearhead's nicrosilminds allows for forcefully opening the channel so widely that it becomes very close to burning the mists. And burning the mists destroys human entities (per WoB it didn't kill Vin because she was transformed into something else - she Ascended).

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Oversleep replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Maybe he is genuinely worried? I am not implying that his worries are grounded or anything, but parrents tend to have this "she/he is on his own, how is she/he doing?!" mindset. I wouldn't say it's a jab at you being unable to manage your finances, it's rather "parents be parents" thing. -
Sometimes inspiration is drawn from weird sources. Mine was a physics lesson few years ago. I assume you know what tuning fork is. There is a certain trait I was not aware until that lesson (and I played with tuning forks quite a lot): it is almost too faint to be hearable unless you press it against some resonator (like table or something) or move it very closely to your ear. The reason is that It's a thing that produces sound only in small area around itself! So I imagined a scene when a tuning fork is struck and thrown at enemy in such a way that it passes just next to his ear... It's unhearable at distance, so it's dismissed as not dangerous, but when it goes near the ear suddenly the enemy hears the sound. How do you weaponize sound? Maybe a sound mage charged it with a spell so the sound is painful. Or maybe it paralyses with sound. Or something. The possibilities are endless.

In that thread we started wondering whether Survivor's Spearhead (known - mistakenly - as Bands of Mourning) did contain in its nicrosilminds ability of aluminium Feruchemy and then I had a revelation: How do you simultaneously store away aluminium (to make unkealed nicrosilmind) and store aluminium Feruchemy in nicrosil to make a medallion giftng aluminium Feruchemy? That's, obviously, impossible. Since to produce medallions you need to be able to store away Identity on top of other powers (nicrosil Feruchemy + power you want to store) and you can't have a medallion gifting aluminium Feruchemy... There are two options: Trueselfs - Feruchemists are (probably) non-existant in Southern Scadrial, so that's ruled out; Hemalurgy; I say Excissors reuse the spikes which gift aluminium Feruchemy and that's how they can make medallions. Maybe they have medallions which gift three powers: Nicrosil Compounding + variable power. That way each Excisor can store one power in medallion.
-
You mean it's not actual object but reference to it actually Investiture but a gateway to certain part of Investiture?
-
The thing is, how do you simultaneously store away aluminium (to make unsealed metalmind) and store aluminium Feruchemy in nicrosil to make a medallion gifitng aluminium Feruchemy? That's... THAT'S WHAT EXCISORS ARE! THEY REUSE THE SPIKES WHICH GIFT ALUMINIUM FERUCHEMY SO THEY CAN PRODUCE MEDALLIONS! I SOLVED IT!
-
I think it could have been already answered, but... how can atium be Pulled or Pushed on if it's basically condensed Investiture? Normal objects which are Invested are harder to be influenced by Allomancy but something which is basically pure essence of a Shard can be affected normally?
-
Yeah, even if there are no aluminium Feruchemy medallions in existence, the whole issue would be dealt with by simply giving the Spearhead to some Aluminium Ferring who makes a copy and then the mass production starts. So unless Kelsier's plan is to secretly abduct all of the Trueselfs, I'd say there is aluminium Feruchemy in the nicrosilmind of the Spearhead.
-
Hm. They both have hit mistpoint and I theoretized that above mistpoint you vaporize (like Vin when she Ascended) and die (like Vin did not). The thing is, the Slivers are people who have held at least part of the Shard, so by my definition mistpoint is the limit between human and Ascension. Like Brandon says, it's not as clear-cut as we may think. So I guess that they were around the lower threshold of being a Sliver. They are something, but a little less than what we could call a Sliver.

We don't actually know whether he could. We don't know what charges the Survivor's Spearhead's nicrosilminds hold... although if there is no nicrosil charge for aluminium Feruchemy, then after Spearhead runs out of nicrosil charges it cannot be made unkeyed again. Nicrosil could be refilled by Compounding, but no longer unkeyed. I can see arguments for both cases: that there is the charge and there isn't. So it could be used only once, so Kelsier doesn't have a whole planet of Fullborns running around and to make it possible to kickstart medallion production (so yeah, a whole planet of Fullborns).

Even more bonus points if their explanation not only covers less than your original post but also make no attempt at all to relate to it or answer the question asked.
-
In every topic I make about Shards or Investiture or magic and I try to focus on some part of it, to analyze something, there is always someone who tries to explain to me what are the Shards or how magic works. Every time.

So, I know nobody is going to be shocked by the revelation that Khriss writes Ars Arcana. But it seems we finally have official confirmation from Peter (I found it in coppermind): Do we have any more confirmations, maybe from Brandon in a WoB or something?
