My parents are watching season's finale right now. As Cersei watches the Baelor sept entering the stratosphere my mother comments "So it's just her and Tommen now, huh?"... I managed not to burst into laughter.

There was a short story by Arthur C. Clarke about a man whose mind was invaded by a spectator from the future who lived through numerous lives to get entertainment. You may want to read that (I can't remember the title, but the spectator was named Omega).

Nicrosil Feruchemy and "Bottoming out" an attribute
Oversleep replied to Irkutsk's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Both effects which you proposed are already features of Feruchemy. Any attribute can be stored 100%. The thing is, practical limit on some of them is lower; for example storing too much strenght would make your heart too weak to pump blood and your ribcage muscles too weak to breathe. We have evidence of people storing 100%, for example iron. One of defining traits of Feruchemy is its lack of upper limit of tapping - you can tap as much as you want as fast as you want. My personal theory is that strenghtening Feruchemy (be it by multiple spikes or tapping nicrosil) lets you overtap much more efficiently (overtapping is when you tap at the level above the Standard Tapping Rate - when you lose power due to compression). -
If I had a list of Life Goals, I'd add this: "Use hailstones in whisky with cola"

I've just read through them and while Hoid says that he does hold a grudge against Rayse and Bavadin, nothing implies anything about any relations between Rayse and Bavadin.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Oversleep replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I think we strayed the topic away enough My political beliefs are too complicated even for me, although I'd like a government which would focus more on the economy... and when I say "focus" I don't mean "ruining". -
In fact, there never were any States. There is just and only Ohio. That's why.
-
Never had any problems with that. With all that westerns Hollywood produces et cetera... And various books (like Winnetou)... That's not an issue, really. BTW, I always thought that W&W are much more like RDJ's and Law's Sherlock Holmes films than Wild West.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Oversleep replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Looking at what they do, I read it as a gamble - either we experience a population growth and it pays off in the future, somehow managing to generate enough income to get the country prospering... or we all plummet to financial blackhole. Probably the latter. -
I'm pretty sure that the webcomic author (which lives in the same city as me) whom tweets I occasionally read had posted a photo with Pokemon Go...

Can gold healing reconstruct things that are not your body?
Oversleep replied to king of nowhere's topic in Mistborn
Why would it? For example, when Wax rips off Wayne's burnt skin, it doesn't crumble away. And that's not FMA and Bloodmakers aren't Homunculi Of course, regrowing diamond would be pretty impossible. I'd say that Bloodmakers can regenerate only human parts. -
@Argel Your examples are completely wrong. Miles can only regrow his head because he started tapping before the injury; throughout the whole thing he's healing the immediate damage which was done to him. If he stopped tapping gold and then he was beheaded, he'd drop dead, his body wouldn't start tapping gold on its own. Wayne discusses this in Shadows Of Self. BTW, we actually know that there is the requirement of an intent - you can't make a Hemalurgic spike without wanting to create a Hemalurgic spike. SImply shoving metal through someone won't make it a spike. Magic can be done on "below the consciouss level" - as my example with Kaladin shows - but doing it while unconscious is a whole another thing. Perhaps I should replace "there has to be conscious intent to do so" with something more appropriate and we could finally start discussing Realmatics and not whether I chose right word.

Infused gemstones =/= trapped spren. Important difference. Back in the pre-Recreance times, the Shardplate was (probably) powered by the Stormlight breathed in by the Radiant.

@Argel You're arguing semantics. Whatever, then make assumption that I said intuitively and not instincitvely. Everyone knows what I mean, but you chose to nitpick my chose of words.
-
Why? I thought that right now the only things that should be spoiler tagged are Shadows Of Self, Bands Of Mourning, Secret History and White Sand. And I'm not even sure that SoS requires spoilers anymore.
-
We know that to perform any magic, there has to be conscious intent to do so (Elantrians have to want to draw Aons, waving around won't make any lines appear). We know that even without knowing what they're doing or even knowing they're doing something, an effect can be produced - like Kaladin created Reverse Lashing on the bridge without even knowing he was doing something - but there was a conscious effort, sort of "I want this arrows to hit something else". But how can an Allomancer burn metals while knocked out cold? Burning trace metals instinctively is one thing; a whole another issue is burning them while sleeping. We have evidence - Vin was unconscious after she and Kelsier run into Inquisitors in Kredik Shaw. When Sazed brings her to the hideout, they give her pewter and she starts burning it and she's unconscioud the whole time. This is confusing :|

What's interesting, one of the WoBs about Zane's spike say it lent him "extremely great precision with Steelpushing". Now I wonder whether it's different from the usual, power-enhancing spikes.
-
No, I'm not. You see, when I say that both Stormlight healing and Feruchemical gold work under the same principles, I mean that both Stormlight healing and Feruchemical gold work under the same principles. Relevant WoB:

I always thought that's a joke/urban myth. But I wouldn't me too surprised if it really happened. -

So Kelsier's fine? -
I am so stealing that.

All the healing in the cosmere works under the same principles, be it Feruchemical gold, Stormlight or Regrowth. The healing pushes the Physical Aspect (the body) to match the Spiritual Aspect (soul...roughly) filtered through Cognitive Aspect (how you view yourself). That's why Kaladin's brands won't heal.
-
Feruchemical tin not, but I always wondered about fduraluminium. But even if we make a mistborn eat a carriage full of lerasium and then spike him with additional Allomantic steel/Allomantic iron and even (BoM spoilers) , the sun is way too distant. I doubt he would even have range above ten kilometres.

preservation 16 or 2? Sign from Preservation
Oversleep replied to Sam Script's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Just adding this: the cycle of the Well Of Ascension is 16*16, so it is linked to the "holy number". It also makes me think that it was not arbitraily chosen by Leras, but rather a special number of the Scadrial itself. Since Shards don't create magic systems, but they rather arise from the interaction of the planet and the Shards which Invested in it... I think that the fact that there are sixteen metals mean that sixteen is the number associated with Scadrial itself. Edit: Ruin changed my post, I obviously know math and that in no way 16*16 is 1024. Storming Ati and his shenaningans.
