  1. I'm still kind of sold on the loophole being a child as Champion, and with Dalinar as Champion that would mean defeat regardless of the child's identity. Gavinor would hurt him more, but I don't think Dalinar would deliberately kill any child. Same with Kaladin. The only chance they really have is if Szeth is made Honor's Champion, and his 5th Ideal would be very important. Unlike most characters, achieving his 5th Ideal in this case would probably be something he did sadly out of necessity not a moment of Glory. Szeth is the only character on Honor's team that I think would look at a child and no matter how it would haunt him could kill them because he generally already sees his soul as shredded and damned. Szeth goes to Shinovar and this death rattle happens when he destroys it "A man stood on a cliffside and watched his homeland fall into dust. The waters surged beneath, so far beneath. And he heard a child crying. They were his own tears." Todium selects a child (maybe Gavinor, or Oroden, or a Shin child that Szeth brings back) knowing Dalinar could not kill the child. Szeth returns and Renarin convinces his father to select Szeth as the champion which throws off the future-sight of Todium as well as his knowledge of Dalinar he depended on bring about "I hold the suckling child in my hands, a knife at his throat, and know that all who live wish me to let the blade slip. Spill its blood upon the ground, over my hands, and with it gain us further breath to draw.". Dalinar demands Szeth surrender rather than harm the child, but Szeth instead swears the 5th Ideal leaving behind his Oath to Dalinar and draws Nightblood killing the child "So the night will reign, for the choice of honor is life...". If Brandon wants to go less dark, then Dalinar upon seeing that Szeth will disobey him and kill the child instead takes the bond of Odium's Champion upon himself. So, the first arch of the Archive ends much as it began with the Assassin Szeth killing a Kholin King.
  2. Also, its mentioned that the Spren during the Recreance did not expect to become Deadeyes. They probably expected some harm from the breaking of Oaths but Deadeyes were a new phenomenon. So, they may have kept the upcoming Recreance a secret, figuring they could explain after if they needed to but then just never had the chance.
  3. Mainly because of the Death Rattles. They seem like a decent description of a child champion for Odium. Its pretty dark but then again Brandon did put the Death Rattle in.
  4. I didn't relisten, but I'm pretty sure that in the audiobook they used Teft's voice for that line as well.
  5. Bit out there, but Szeth goes to Shinovar and this death rattle happens when he destroys it "A man stood on a cliffside and watched his homeland fall into dust. Dalinar demands Szeth surrender rather than harm the child, but Szeth instead swears the 5th Ideal leaving behind his Oath to Dalinar and draws Nightblood killing the child "So the night will reign, for the choice of honor is life..." Szeth is the only reasonable champion so broken that he might be willing to take the option of killing a child to save the world, and whose oaths would allow it. I could also see him letting Nightblood destroy him afterwards.
  6. I'm not sure that Odium is taking Vyre's happiness, he might just not have any happiness naturally. The only time he seemed even somewhat happy was with Bridge 4, and even then he was consumed by vengeance.
  7. I wouldn't be surprised if its intentional. Having dealt with her Father's rage, I wouldn't be surprised if Shallan associates the general anger inside as a male aspect while its still forming. Also, might have been a way to keep it separate from her own personality as long as possible.
  8. I actually had thought about most of those, the one thing I couldn't figure out is why the present day oaths are so constricting again if the old ones hadn't been. If the nature of the connection was permanently switched then the new oaths should have the weakened/no constraints like the old ones.
  9. The Stormfather might be different in that he's a Storm. He's very resistant to change and I'm not sure how much of that is personal resistance and how much of that is part of who he is and dangerous for him to change from. The Sibling or Stormfather forming into a Blade or Rod might actually be too much for them considering they're actually much more tied to specific locations and functions than other Spren.
  10. If its extra Investiture related, then might be something different about Syl being a pre-Recreance Spren.
  11. I'm not sure that the reader is supposed to believe that Kaladin ordering Yunfah to bond Rlain is a good thing, Rlain understands the reason but doesn't view it as a good thing. The moral status of Spren is something that the humans themselves are struggling with. Hell, the moral status of other people is something they're having trouble coming to terms with (Darkeyes starting to gain some equal footing, Rlain still deals with racism and distrust at Urithiru, etc). I don't think that characters getting things wrong or being unsure of things is a weakness. All we know about fabrials being wrong seems to come only from the Sibling as I don't think any other Spren have shown an issue with it. The Sibling could be something close to the Rosharan version of PETA and an extremist or maybe it is correct, and its something that Navani and the Sibling will need to work on. Perhaps the Sibling will help Navani learn to coax Spren into agreement in the future. A major issue in the book is that "Honor" is not a specific concept with one answer. Different characters have different reactions and thought processes. Thats why there are 10 Orders with different conceptions, and disagreements of it within the Orders and Spren themselves. What does a bonded Spren owe the person holding their bond and vice-versa seems to depend upon the individuals. Even whether the Oaths themselves are broken is heavily determined by whether the person feels they broke them. Morality and moral status are very grey here for the characters, and they're trying to figure it out as they go. I don't think the issue is that Brandon is messing up the moral issues, but that as the books go on we're getting further away from direct societal analogues for every situation. Lighteyes versus Darkeyes has a very clear "Racism is Wrong" analog in society. "Are physical magical manifestations of concepts actual people and what do we owe them?" is a harder question
  12. Have you read "secret history"?
  13. Red is generally the colour of corrupted investiture. What if Kelsier has turned on Harmony due to Harmony's inability to act, and he's used corrupted investiture to do so. Possibly related to whatever the Ghostbloods are up to. There's little that might anger or annoy Kelsier than someone who is in a position to act and help poor people but being frozen into inaction. Harmony's actions have seemingly frozen the basin in place technologically and culturally. Assuming its a shard attacking could be a red herring. I've mentioned elsewhere, but Miles seems very Kelsier-like in motivation and action. Kelsier could wish to become Discord to allow himself to use the power of the Shard to actually act.
  14. This WoB mentions that Kelsier has a general personality and attitude that could make him the villain in other situations than the one he found himself in. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/31-arcanum-unbounded-release-party/#e9702 Look at Kelsier's character. He's murder-happy, willing and eager to a point to kill any noble in his way (only sparing Elend really due to Vin). You put Kelsier in an orderly society thats actually working or where nobles are actually trying to help and I'm not sure he stops doing what he's doing. Mistborn Era 2 Spoilers
  15. A couple things that I think need answers to fully understand what exactly happened with BAM. 1. Melishi was a Bondsmith, did they use the abilities that Ishar showed during the scenes with Dalinar to really mess with connections during BAM capture. Could Melishi have accidently or on purpose bound BAM to all the Spren on Roshar, or to Honor/The Sibling as part of the plan. Melishi not noticing the consequences. Naze-daughter-Kuzodo worries about the consequences and this may come from knowledge the Shin had gained from training with Ishar's Blade. 2. Why were at least Nale and Kalak present at the binding. Nale being a Radiant as well as Herald might explain him, but seems weird that the Herald's were there when Melishi's plan is mentioned as "related to the very nature of the Heralds and their divine duties, an attribute the Bondsmiths alone could address." What exactly about the Heraldic duties was required.
  16. As far as making duplicates of memories, Hoid might be better at it than most. Using lightweaver or other illusions to watch a copy of what he remembers as well as describing his thoughts/what he wants to remember, then putting the memory of his replay into the coppermind/breaths while keeping the original in his mind.
  17. Even if Taln broke, that doesn't mean that he abandoned the Oathpact. The spiritual problem would probably not come from allowing the Fused back into Roshar, but from the attempt to abandon the Oathpact (or whatever happened with BAM if that turns out to be the cause of the madness).
  18. Could be Frost, keeping close to Hoid and keeping an eye on things going down even if sworn to non-intervention.
  19. I wonder if this means that Dalinar could possibly resurrect all the Deadeyes in a major event. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/183/#e3910 This WOB says that there's a spiritweb memory in the Spiritual Realm for a long time after someone dies. Dalinar can connect all the realms with his power. He might be able to allow the Radiants to re-swear their oaths through that to save bring back their Spren.
  20. People mention that Navani and the Sibling are a weird Bond Pair because they're so different, but its not that surprising considering Dalinar and the Stormfather are also very different. Dalinar is a man trying to change, to become better whereas the Stormfather very clearly does not want to change. He mentions repeatedly that he is a Storm unchanging and generally unempathetic to those caught in his path. The Stormfather is much closer to the Blackthorn than Dalinar. The Sibling wants Navani to give up Fabrials which are a cornerstone of her life so far, but the Stormfather also requires Dalinar to give up Shardblades which have been a cornerstone of his life to this point. Neither bond is a perfect fit for the Bondsmith when it first occurs, but both may grow into it as they go by changing themselves and the Spren to find a compromise.
  21. The only thing I'd mention is missing is that Ishar seems to be heading for Shinovar. He tells Dalinar to find him there. This all seems to have to happen over 10 days, so time for Szeth and Kaladin to deal with Shinovar as well as go to lasting integrity seems too short. So, while it might take place in the Cognitive realm, he'd need to be dragging the deadeyes a few countries over from roughly Tukkar to Shinovar.
  22. Perhaps, but it could just be that Tyn is really good at making herself angry. So, not really artificial because she'd really be feeling that emotion, but doing it on command.
  23. I've thought before that Szeth would be an interesting one, because oaths seem binding on Shards to the point of currently trapping Odium. If Dalinar takes over for Honor, and Szeth for Odium, then its possible that even when intent becomes stronger that Szeth would still be bound to obey Dalinar thereby putting Odium on a leash of sorts.
  24. Is it possible that its not all guilt? Could the Bondsmith plan have damaged Radiant bonds in some way as well as a side effect or cost to it? It could have used some link with the Old Magic and Nightwatcher to incur a cost as well as a benefit for the Radiants
